Fernando Alonso on the LeMans winning team. Funniest thing at Indy this year. They REALLY expected him to get the McLaren into the field. They had his frequency programmed in the race radios, they had all sorts of hats, shirts, etc. ready to sell, and at 7AM, all of it was discounted 40-50% :)

Yes, seems like the Ranger really isn't loved much.

For what most people (homeowners) need a pickup truck for the Ridgeline is pretty solid.

Guy in my ‘hood just replaced a 4 door ram work truck model (cheap looking trim) eco diesel with a new ridgeline. Never saw it do actual work, so probably a lot more Practical!

What I would like to see, and this is probably going to be unpopular, is a sedan raised up so I don’t have to stoop down to get into it. I like to have a lockable trunk, so I really don’t need a SUV. Anyone else want this as a more comfortable option as we get older? I guess most people will say just give me a SUV for the versatility.

Yes. That’s s something I dislike about the new accord, and some other cars (my TLX to an extent also). Too low slung. The old Subaru Outback sedan was good, but not sure there is anything like that today.

You see, the AMC Eagle sedan was ahead of its time! The VW Alltrak, based off the Golf, would probably fit the bill. Its more of a sedan wagon than a CUV/SUV.

“ok trying to get back on topic. Any suggestions for light to medium duty pick up trucks?”

If you want a real basic small truck try a Nissan Frontier. Start at about $20k for a stripper up to low 30s for an extra cab with options. Kind of outdated though. The Colorado is nice but I think you’re looking at a higher price.

Early reviews of the Ranger were not that great, but does well in peer comparison tests.
The drivetrain is much better than the competition.
Bargain is the Frontier, although you might as well buy a used one, hasn't changed in a decade and a half.

My sister is back from Germany, attempting to resolve the farm property we inherited over there.
The 'state' government is going to buy a portion of it to restore a water flow area to close to how it ran naturally.
At some point, it was decided to straighten in out from it's original 'meandering' flow, which resulted in a lot of erosion.
The local officials were somewhat trepidatious meeting my sister 'an american', guess they were expecting Leona Helmsley.
Once they realized her German was pretty good and she understood what they are trying to do(taught ecology subject courses at a PSU annex campus for about a decade), they relaxed and were happy we are on board with what they want to do.
I will get some financial benefit from it, but the best part for me is they are getting to design their own future after having no choice but to do what they were told to do for many decades.

Sent my son’s Sable down the road tonight. The final straw came when he went out to work and the AC compressor failed. Made no sense to put any more money into it so I threw a quick ad on CL and within a few hours a guy came and bought. Don’t know if he’ll fix it or turn right around and resell it but not my problem any more. He’ll be Ubering in the PT now. It’s only got 46k on it so I’m hoping he’ll get a few years out of it.

Been there.....done that with my 2008 328 Cabriolet. To get in you swing your butt so it is over the seat and then you drop into the seat. To get out you grab a bit of the door frame and pull yourself out of the seat.

The Kia is a tall car and they were supposed to make the Corolla a bit taller for senior citizens, also Ford made the Focus taller a few years ago.

The trilogy has to be one of the best sequel/series ever. In my top 10 forever.

Not just the nice late run Eagle, Marty's eventual Toyota pickup, the red 2 door Cherokee, Datsun B210, etc are all cool. Everyday cars on the street in 1985 that are rare today.

The AMC is also seen in BTTF 3 in front of Jennifer's house:

    image

And in BTTF 2 1985A (alternate timeline, with the bleak Biff-ruled future), a crashed Hornet does a stand-in:

The question is how well will/does it sell?

Being on the “I Hate SUVs, Why Don’t You?” Edmunds.com board for some years, IF there were any significant market shares, it would have manifested years ago. Folks (like me) that were saying the SUV platforms were very logical & market shares would grow substantially in #’s & %’s were almost totally trashed & vilified. History has been, is, remains obviously on the SUV/CUV side. There is almost no brand that does not have SUV/CUV products.

When I bought a 1987 Toyota Landcruiser, a scant 32 years ago, SUV’s were app 1% of the PVF. I have read that app 2000 of the 1987 Toyota Land Cruiser were imported into the country. Fast forward to 2019, the sedan market is EVER shrinking.

Right now, no brand has pioneered that “SUS” niche.

Very true - Dealers were reporting that potential older customers liked everything about the Outback, except it was a wagon instead of a sedan.

It would seem that the product that makes the most amount of sense, in lieu of the so called “SUS” is really the tried and true minivan.👀 It’s not an SUV/CUV. It’s easy to get in and out of, holds 6, 7 to 8 passengers.

Indeed, because the EV engine is perceived as less pollutive than the ICE, (it’s actually MORE pollutive) the trend to bigger vehicles with higher passenger capacities will continue. I’m guessing that EV power packs will need to be interchangeable.
