Re Keys. We could never figure out which keys matched which doors in our Ohio house, so we pretty much left it unlocked when we went out for most of the years we lived there. But that’s not uncommon where we lived.

oh, other thing we learned was that the keys that supposedly were for the sunroom (exterior) and side (into the house from the sunroom) doors don't, in fact, appear to open anything in the house. So it is front door or bust. So getting that resolved is now on the to do list. I was going to buy a 2 door set at Lowe's (not really that pricey), but the house came with a 1 year warranty, and apparently it includes re-keying the house for free (no $00 deductible). So probably getting that done instead. Not sure how they do it. I assume they can just reset the cylinders, and not have to replace them. But, I always have just replaced the whole lockset when I needed to.

Some locks you can reset the cylinders, I know the locks we currently have you can although I cannot remember the exact way to do it but it can be done.

Given I was soothing my sore muscles and wanted to put something together that was relatively simple, I put my new grill together to put on the new deck. Had the tools already out, so why not?

They said it only takes 30 mins. Maybe, if I didn't have to unpack it (which took 20 minutes by itself (someone could probably make a fortune advising companies how to package their intricate products so no parts get lost and they're easy to remove from the packaging).

Of course, it came with "fiddly" parts, some of which were missing. One, a lock washer, was replaced (at my discretion) with a regular washer. The other, a stripped screw that didn't have enough room to tighten or remove it due to having next to no clearance to get a screw driver to the head of the screw, was left "as is-where is".

That said, those foibles aside, it's up. It's working. And, it turned out some mighty fine ribeyes last night that I treated my "quasi" girlfriend to.

Our house has interconnected Kidde alarms. What a pain, when one goes it trips another elsewhere so it is heard all over the house. Some buzz, some have a voice. Also, only Kidde or Duracell Ultra seem to work in them. Some are 2AA and some 9 volt. Sometimes tech goes too far making it more of a pain than necessary.

You can't leave a statement like that just hanging there. What's a "quasi" girlfriend? Do you have to inflate her? ;)

I knew a lady who said she had a "quasi" boyfriend. It didn't take long for us to start referring to him as Quasimodo.

    Quasi stuck out for me too, so I looked it up;
    prefix: quasi-
    seemingly; apparently but not really.
    "quasi-American"
synonyms: supposedly, seemingly, apparently, allegedly, reportedly, professedly, ostensibly, on the face of it, to all appearances, on the surface, to all intents and purposes, outwardly, superficially, purportedly, nominally, by one's/its own account, on paper; More being partly or almost.

So which one is it. I think I know what you mean, probably what stick said, she thinks she is but you aren't there yet.

I once had a quasi girlfriend in my single days and I invited her to an anniversary party. She was sure I only invited her so the people at the party wouldn't think I was gay - not that there is anything wrong with that if I was, but.................

Y’all are right. We hang out. We even take some trips together. But, we’re not texting and talking every day. If I go on a trip without her, there’s no “well, who’d you go with?” Sort of questions. Same goes for her doing things without me.

I guess we’re more like “friends with benefits”.

I don’t know if she wants to take it to a different level. And, I’m not asking. If she asked to make our relationship more formal.......well, I’ll just cross the bridge when/if the question is asked.

    Here’s a puzzle:

I was looking at Craigslist listings and found this:

    https://hudsonvalley.craigslist.org/cto/d/new-windsor-2009-lincoln-mks-low-miles/6926505482.html

My low milage radar went on right away. I ran it through Edmunds TMV and got a value of just under $7k. I also tried KBB and got a value of $11.5k.

    That’s a heck of a range.

I’ve found that as cars get older their value on Edmunds drops much faster than on KBB. That’s particularly true for low volume cars like Lincolns.

got to watch the plumber work on the kids house today. Replaced the toilet, confirming my suspicion that this was a job I never wanted to do. Nothing conceptually too difficult, but helps to have experience and not something I want to mess with. The bigger issue was all the shut off valves and the little wall cover cap were old, nasty, and needed to go. Same for the sink shut offs (I had a lot of work getting those shut totally in the first place). Plus the sink drain needed to be redone. so some busting of tile and plaster to get at the drain, and a bit of heating and soldering. Something else I won't touch. Though now that all the hard stuff is done, hooking up the sink would be a breeze!

I did take advantage of having the toilet out to replace the vinyl peel and stick tiles my daughter put down that were hacked around the toilet. Now they go underneath and look a whole lot better!

You mentioned that it didn't look to difficult to replace a toilet and possibly the only thing holding you back was you didn't have the experience doing that. If you accepted my offer to help at the flip house you would have had that experience. Rehabbing the original bathroom was done in stages so I lost track of how many times the toilet was removed then reinstalled. As I said before, we should have paid the premium price to get the model that was installed and removed via a zipper. But that's finally over. Both toilets are staying put now.

American Standard. They are on a tight budget that did not include a Pfeister. But, it does have buttons on the top instead of a handle to jiggle! It's a dual flush (1 and 2) model. Pretty cool, and looks way better. Was disgusting underneath though. That got all cleaned up, nice new wax ring, new shut off valve that isn't rusty and a new braided supply line. Took 20 years off the place!

next up is getting a new tub faucet set installed. Did some research, and decided the stuff at Lowe's was not good enough, so spending a little (very little) extra to get good quality stuff (brass instead of plastic parts) at the fancy plumbing supply house. Just gonna take a couple weeks.

side benefit, the nice lady there showed me a single valve set-up that is designed to replace the 3 handle style currently in there. Did not realize they made it, but the kid is going to be happy since she does not like the separate handle set-up and was only going with that to save money. So, going to be a win-win.

Also said that the 3 handle style is no longer to code so that is why there are very few options out there to start with. And switching now, down the line when the bathroom gets gutted, the plumbing can remain in place.

I’ve seen some sites where they will appraise your car if you submit your VIN but not your plate. I think I did that with Carvana once. Many CL ads include VINs but cover the plate. Doesn’t make sense.

I would never look at a used car if I couldn’t run a VIN check at least with the federal web site that tracks stolen and totaled cars.

Honda also makes lawnmower engines that are used by other lawnmower manufacturers. In fact I have a Husqvarna mower with a Honda engine.

If Hyundai makes smoke detectors they would be low end detectors whereas if Genesis makes smoke detectors they would be wannabes. That's more than a subtle difference. :s

Over the years I have been a poster on this site, we have discussed topics from dishwashers, refrigerators, every model of automobile ever produced, toaster-ovens, air-conditioning units, house roofs, weather, politics, etc. I thought we had covered every conceivable topic, but to my surprise, upon opening this site tonight, it became clear I was wrong.

There it was - perfectly illustrated for all of us to see - was this toilet bowl. I literally excreted a brick (that would have shattered the bottom of that toilet) and gasped! We have now covered every conceivable topic! 🤪😜😋😗😇😁😀😀

    " I literally excreted a brick. . ."

And here we have how many people use the word literally these days. I'll stand corrected if, Mr. A has availed himself of the services of a proctologist. I'm certain there a number to choose from in his area.

    @oldfarmer50,
I have seen a commercial several times, where they says enter your plate# to get a value.

What’s the web site, I’d like to try that out.

Whatever the one is that the guy with the beard is looking at his phone to figure out if he's getting a good deal.
The name of the site escapes me for now.

    that is True Car.

I think Carvana does that too. I assume they just look up the VIN from the DMV database.

got to watch the plumber work on the kids house today.

I'd say the $7000 price is more accurate. I am finding newer ones for a few dollars more in Canadian dollars......and that should translate into about 20% U.S.Ds
2010 Lincoln MKZ AWDCarGurus IMV of $10,268

    Price: $8,998 $174/mo est.*

Mileage: 101,496 km Thats about 64k miles

    Certified Pre-Owned

2011 Lincoln MKZ FWD CarGurus IMV of $10,729

    Price: $8,990 $174/mo est.*

    Mileage: 86,000 km That's about 54k miles

The one you had looks great but it looks repainted to me...too perfect. No close-ups and no pictures of the inside. Those old Lincolns are an excellent value....under $10k for a low mileage luxury liner.
Must be a heck of a dealer mark up down here. Most I see listed on local dealer sites are in the $12-14k range.
You should buy the Lincoln up here, a 2011 for $8900 Cdn = $6000 USD!

Yes, started to get those......great invention! All alarms are getting converted to 10 year ones soon.
We were talking about changing batteries......easy to think 10 year batteries will last 10 years!
