I was a a Ford dealer yesterday and they had two near identical 2019 Mustang GTs. 6 speed manual with no options other than the performance package. Did it always cost $4000? I don’t think so. They were offering 0% for 72 months. Just over $40k sticker.

My local Ford store took another run at me with a $491/ mo 66 month offer on some unspecified GT. No info on what car or what price they were basing the offer on. In the fine print I believe their “great offer” was predicated on me using Ford credit at 5.8% which is stupid since I could get Under 3% at my credit union or 0% at the other dealer.

These solicitations are getting pretty insulting. I can’t believe anyone would take them up on this.

Well $491/month for 66 months at 5.8% interest is a loan amount of under $27K so I would say if it was a GT it was used or they wanted a big downpayment.
Oh yeah, the deal assumed $17k + in trade value of my current car. However my calculator says $491X66mo. equals $32406.

But it’s a moot point without some specific car or MSRP with which to compare. Might be a great buy on a GT350 but not so much on a base stripper.

Maybe it’s some strange new way of getting you to call.

I guarantee they will tell you that you need it, since they did last time and won't expect you to replace yourself. The engine filter they may take a peek at, but I would bet they never pull out the cabin filter since they have to empty the glove box.

I tend to agree. Imagine how much money those cabin filters have made everyone! We had cars for many many years without them and survived just fine.
I remember being told that I needed a new cabin filter in the Sebring once. I told them since it never had one I really didn't see a reason for it.
LOL, a cabin filter for a convertible. :D you should have told them it’s called a top.

Excellent and that is the way it should be. They made the mistake, and they should have told you the cost before doing the work. I wonder, if they had offered 50/50 at the time, would you have taken it?

    As a recap, this happened:
“2 weeks ago my 2014 CPO BMW 535d x-drive with about 85k miles went in for an oil change. While doing the courtesy inspection, they said that it needed a new “guibo”. (It’s a rubber part somehow related to the x-drive). The service person told me that it was a CPO warranty part and wouldn’t cost me. So, great. I scheduled an appointment. When the appointment happened, I got a loaner and left. Upon returning I got a bill for $653.00. Apparently the “guibo” is a wear item and not covered.
When I complained to the service manager, he apologized that the service writer was wrong and shouldn’t have said that it was covered. He offered $150.00 credit for next service. He said that in the future I should check to see if it is really a warranty repair. I say BS. If the service writer can’t be trusted, who do I turn to? It all fell on deaf ears.
It’s the only BMW dealer in the state. So, do I keep complaining and possibly get black listed, or shut up and forget about it?”

I told the story here before but since I can't find a way to search my comments here I'll repost it. I had a disappointing experience with my 2011 Regal Turbo one time when it was at the dealer for service. When I went to pick it up they told me the tech recommended changing the engine air filter. I asked how much, was told $100, I said no thanks. On the way home I stopped at a parts store and picked up the filter for a few bucks. But when I got home I found the air box was sealed by a half-dozen torx screws in an oddball size. Fortunately I found the right bit in my collection. When I opened it up the filter was soiled and perhaps did need replacing, but the tech left the little twigs, dead bugs, etc, in the bottom of the air box. Three questions: why didn't they call me at the time it was opened up to let me make the decision then, why was it designed in a way that was so hard to access, and why wouldn't the tech at least clean the loose debris when it was staring him in the face?

The Enclave was 6 Torx screws as well. Why not a Phillips or hex head? Makes zero sense unless the Torx screws are easier to install on the line for whatever reason.
Typically there is less chance of head strip-out with Torx head screws but that is usually more of a concern when screwing into metal. However, most air boxes are plastic so there is little concern for head strip-out in plastic. Therefore, I'd say Torx head screws for the air box is to discourage a low skilled car owner from messing with it and also that person wouldn't want to buy a Torx driver. If those types can't fix something with a hammer, screw driver or a pair of vice grips, the job ain't getting done by them.

And all the way up here in the PNW it is maybe 45F, and pouring - probably won't get much colder tonight. Funny how that can work. A couple areas even had a tornado watch earlier today.

Good luck! It seems the wheels are still turning slowly - I've recently had contact regarding positions I applied for 2 months ago (fingers crossed on a couple of them that look interesting), and recruiter traffic has just recently picked up a little. I am optimistic something good is on its way, and a little more hiatus time isn't a bad thing.

I'm trying to find something within a reasonable commute, or for something in the city, I can bus it faster. Something too far out would eventually be easier just to move closer, commute times vs distance can be hilarious here, probably 15 miles = 1 hour on dry days, anyone's guess when raining.

Thanks! I had a couple solid phone interviews and am on the radar with some recruiters but it’s not easy to get past those automated systems everyone uses.

Thinking about getting my resume professionally done to optimize it for my skills.

As for the car, if needed I wouldn’t be opposed to a third car cheap lease. That would work!

As a wild card too I could always mile up my Mom’s car if I had to. I don’t think she will use 15k or her allotted 30k in three years.

Employment screening has become so computer based to make it more “efficient”. When I started looking for work after almost 30 years I was shocked that it was all done through email and online qualifying. Some of it was frustrating for a technophobe like me. I didn’t even see a company person until I was hired. Seemed overly complicated for a job where the basic qualification was that you be breathing. I can’t imagine how it must be for a real job.

Then again, if you apply for a minimum wage job at Home Depot these days you have to take an online psychological exam.

They said it is the coldest morning in Miami in 2 years, and there was this warning issued too:
he National Weather Service even issued a decidedly Florida-type alert.

“This isn’t something we usually forecast, but don’t be surprised if you see Iguanas falling from the trees tonight as lows drop into the 30s and 40s,” the service tweeted. Apparently they freeze and fall out of trees....can come back to life later.

Torx screws and drivers have been readily available for years. Harbor Freight and others offer sets in various forms. I suspect the Torx screws are easier to work with when assembling the units at the factory than phillips head screws.

BUT car owners who are less skilled at digging into things are less likely to have bought Torx drivers and can't get themselves in trouble as easily opening up stuff because they don't have the Torx units.

I recall the MAF sensor on my 3800 Buick had the Torx with a metal bump sticking up in the middle so an ordinary Torx wouldn't work. Had to be the "security" Torx head that had a recess for the bump to go into to let the edges catch and do their job.

Having grown up not too far from where @suydam now lives, and moving to Colorado 25+ years ago, I can say the winters here aren't that bad. Generally, there are about 5-10 days a year where you really just want to stay home. 40's and 50's for this week and next, which is about perfect.

Denver generally gets more days of sunshine than either Miami or San Diego, so even on days when the temps are in the 20's, it's not awful to be outside.

Just like there is a difference between 'dry heat' and 'humid heat', the same is also true for cold. In Colorado, the humidity is very low (26% at the moment), and I can get by with a lightweight jacket or vest most of the time. When I went to CA last August for my son's wedding, the humidity there made it feel a lot colder than it really was after the sun went down, and the clothing I brought wasn't adequate to keep me warm.

Those two sets you posted images for don't seem to show any Robertson square-drive bits. They would be useless in Canada, as that is by far the most common type used here.

Until they crumble like stale crackers.
Those security torx are tricky. Given the thin walls, they have to be decent quality or they just won't hold up. I bought some Bosch ones that have done well thus far.

". . . moving to Colorado 25+ years ago, I can say the winters here aren't that bad."

I'd agree that winter in the front range isn't miserable. When I lived in Grand Junction back in the '50s ('53-'58) Fraser was often the coldest place in the U.S. as reported on the chalk board weather maps. Later, International Falls in MN got that publicity.

I've lived in Edmonton and traveled regularly to Minneapolis, Montreal and other cities that actually have winter weather on a routine basis. I much prefer it to what happens in Phoenix in the summer, but that's just me.

Could explain why I actually sought out a place at 7500' elevation in AZ. It's not only cooler in the summer, but actually has four seasons, one of which includes a foot or so of snow at once and up to three feet of accumulation most winters. It's very peaceful up here in the winter -- crap weather weeds out the riff-raff, as a rule.

As I joke, as it gets colder you can add layers. As it heats up, you can only get so naked.

When a new guy joined the runners group at work, he innocently asked another member, "What do you do when it gets really cold?" Answer: "Wear more (won't even try to use a euphemism for the first four letters)ing clothes!"

Having lived in a cold climate for over 30 years, after moving to California, in our “winter” I NEVER complain about how cold it is or brag about how gorgeous it is. Because I know how much I used to hate people who did.

Now why would they make something that stupid.....forget that, it’s so you have to take it to the dealer who has the special screw driver. Yikes! What they won’t do to screw (pun intended) you over.

These bits on this page will pretty much sate your need for any special heads. Even the ones with two prongs spaced a few millimeters apart to act as screwdrivers...

Hey, I have that 100 piece red case job. That thing has to be at least 12 years old and looks like new. I'll bet I haven't used it more than 10 times in all those years but when I needed it I had it. Seems like I have a lot of stuff in the garage like that. Collected a lot of dust until Son #1 got a flip house. It seems like every time we ran into a snag he said, "I bet you have a tool for that". He was right, I had it. I could have made more money renting him tools than what I got for helping him. Don't worry, I'm getting even this weekend when he's taking us to that fancy schmany fish place. I can taste that one pound lobster tail already. :D

I don't understand those southern Floridians, I really don't. Nature has a way of helping but all those guys just complain when it gets cold. Here they have lizards falling out of trees begging to be warmed up. They should be making lizard soup or stew. It's the humanitarian thing to do. Not crying to us about how cold it is there. :@

Fun to see oldfarmer. Those dogs were cute. Apparently the older iguanas can come back to life when it warms up........the younger ones don't make it.
Only JMonroe would think of making Iguana soup out of them....he probably makes roadkill stew out of any animals or birds he hits.

I have a subset of that one that's about 30 in a rubbery plastic case. I haven't had a single tool from Harbor Freight break.

I did buy an electric 110 v drill long ago that was cheap price and junk quality. Worse than Black and Decker. Had to be nearly 20 years ago.

I think some firms have HR/hiring "people" who just like to screw with others. But yeah, everything is online today, from finding the job listing to every bit of the application process. Initial phone interviews (some can be long) before in-person visits are a thing, too.

I've also noticed some amusing disconnects between desired skills/credentials and salaries - and I am sure these same people whine about not finding applicants. This probably isn't a new thing, although I suspect it has increased.

I have noticed that the majority of the time, salary is never mentioned in the listings.

I think they should take them indoors with themselves and warm up the lizards. We should call Petco or whatever that group is about the treatment of the lizards in Florida. LOL

I saw at least 20 iguanas lying stiff on the lawns and parkways under trees this morning. It didn't get into the 50's until around 11:30 AM this morning. I saw animal control crews out this morning scooping up the iguanas. They have infiltrated Florida in massive numbers, much like the large snakes in the Everglades.

As for the complaints of Floridians regarding temps in the 40's with windchills in the 30"s, you have to understand how these cold temps affect us senior citizens. Our homes are not insulated as well as your homes. We are more accustomed to heat and humidity and can easily tolerate 90+ degree temperatures while you guys call it a heatwave when temps are in the upper 80"s and lower 90's. It's all a matter of perspective.

Green iguanas are not indigenous to the Florida peninsula - they have multiplied because of the release of iguana pets into the wild. This invasive specie has endangered other wildlife such as birds (iguanas love eggs). They need to reduce their numbers to stabilize other wildlife growth.

Wouldn’t having proper insulation offer similar benefits in keeping the heat outside and keeping your A/C from having to work so hard?

I’m in St.John USVI as I type this. Since we live in Vermont, the mid-80’s this week is a shock to our system right now. We’re leaving Friday and will visit my 88 year old father in Vero Beach. I understand only upper 60’s and low 70’s for the few days we’ll be there. It’ll be a nice transition to frigid Vermont when we fly back on Tuesday.
