And RIP to Max von Sydow, who had a key role in maybe his least serious film, which one of my all time faves, full of memorable and useful lines (here with the underrated Paul Dooley):

Well, my TV plans crashed and burned; I was going with a 75" Sony Z9, but then the 950(which cost the same) dropped by $800 two weeks before the Super Bowl. I decided I'd wait until Super Bowl week to see if it dropped any more- but instead it increased $800- back to the original price. I figured I'd wait and see if it dropped again as the new Sony TVs came out, but it didn't- and both it and the Z9 sold out.
It was a similar story with the Panasonic and Sony UHD BD players- they jumped up before the Super Bowl as well and never dropped again.
Guess I'll wait until next year.

Facts are facts. You may not like those facts, that doesn’t change them.

BTW...just today, the amount of people inflicted have exceeded 100,000.

Claim whatever you want with regards to your politics, but lets not minimize the rapid increase of Coronavirus cases. It’s accelerating, too.

WHO has given no one any reason to debate their facts.

I assume you are directing that my way.

As I said my comment was not on this current topic. But do not delude yourself that everything coming out via WHO on whatever subject is as pure as the driven snow. I did some work last year related to the vaping crisis last fall. The pronouncements coming from WHO and some other public health people, all of whom should have known better, was so misleading and plain wrong that it was shocking. And they had to know that. It was all about advancing an agenda, not facts. No wonder people are so damn cynical.
I think the WHO may be guilty of what you have written when it comes to traffic/vehicle related-deaths. I think mostly they are just regurgitating the agenda filled trash from the IIHS and NHTSA, but still, what you say rings true.

It doesn't mean they are wrong on everything though.

Either way, the real true Socialists may come out for more bailouts if the market tanks a bit more.

Or the reverse kind, as it may be. The actual kind will never take root due to TEM syndrome and bootstrapper delusion.

On the insanity front, there's been a "state of emergency" in WA for a few days, I believe. Then again, we have had 23 deaths so far.

On Nextdoor, a neighborhood app filled with Stepfords lacking self-awareness and entitled lucky ones who bought in when normal people could do so and now act like they built Rome in a day, they are starting a petition for the local school district to close. Lets panic and party.

I think this kind of thing can bring out unpleasant aspects of humanity. The Costco/supply hoarding going on for a little while might be just the tip of the iceberg. Given the obliviousness of people in general and locals as well, it could get interesting.

I'm waiting for my gym to reduce hours/close. The hockey organization I play in hasn't stopped anything yet, but I could see it.

It calmly notes that two people had returned from the Nile area of Egypt and the other attended a conference in DC.

Our governor is doing a good job of spreading caution. I suspect many people should have been using extra caution a few weeks back and that would have slowed the spread of the virus that spreads like the cold viruses before overt symptoms appear.

Warm days here, so that should help slow the spread.

    S&P January 20, 2017: 2264 pts at close
    S&P March 9,:2020: 2859 pts. at close.

It’s still 26 percent, more than 8 percent annualized, so let’s not use alternative facts, shall we? Numbers can and will change (likely going up today by several percent) in next few weeks, but again that’s just one measure, very imperfect and incomplete, especially in such short time frames. Trump’s issue with the market was he was taking all the credit for the rise, so he is now looking for somebody to blame when the numbers will no longer look so fantastic.

This discussion will only lead to problems. Can we please keep this group focused on cars and dishwashers?

Anyway... I posted about a shed the other day.

I ended up getting a vinyl sided 8 x 12 delivered for just under $2800. I felt that was pretty fair. I put a deposit on it yesterday so just waiting for the sample of the siding to confirm a match as I'm not sure exactly what brand of siding is on our home.

We are excited as we get back to our home away from home in just a few weeks. I am hoping that along with an employment offer make March/April better than Dec-Feb.

I have the next step with another potential employer a 1 today. Fingers crossed! Interview last Thursday went well and they told me that a decision would be made within the week.

You want something else? Here it is... I'm in the middle of a kitchen project - new cabinets, new floor (entire level downstairs), new countertops of course, new stove. Cabinets are just being put it, next week new floors, week after new countertops, I hope. So far no major problems, the only pain I have to take time off work. And no kitchen sink for at least two more weeks - that really blows.

Fun to live through, but worth it in the end. My contractor was nice. After the demo he put in a temp sink that gave me at least an extra week or more until it was in the way.

Doing a kitchen is tough, but worth it in the end.

We did a full gut about 9 years ago and it's been great, just now things are showing a touch of wear and the walls could use a coat of paint. My kids managed to put a few dents in the fridge, I wonder if a PDR guy could fix it and if it would be worth it? We are the only ones who notice it.

I'm thinking in the fall I'll put down a new floor and paint before the holidays. We never liked the floor we chose anyway.

    That is one ugly looking statue....and quite a story to go with it.........some believe the statue has a curse;
The statue stands at 32-feet-tall and has glowing red eyes, leading to locals calling him "Blucifer," according to Slate.
The horse also killed the man who designed it.

Luis Jiménez, a New Mexico sculptor, died in 2006 after the a piece of the horse fell on top of him, pinning him to the ground, local news station The Denver Channel reported at the time. He was 65.

Now about that State of Emergency declaration regarding 3 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Cleveland...

Not trying to shoot the messenger at all or even stick them with a sarcastic fork. Or not much anyway.

A map which reflects the confirmed COVID-19 cases might put the "State of Emergency" declaration in some context compared to other reported illness and conditions taking lives every day without triggering a similar spread of caution from governor DeWine or others. Maybe I should be grateful for that!

I just noticed that this NYT map gives the Chicago dot a piece of Illinois but the Cleveland dot was deliberately dumped into Lake Erie.

I had mine done 18 years ago and have been thinking about a new, more ambitious reno of it for a year or more now. The 2002 work was cheap and good but very slow, proving the old "pick 2 out of 3" rule. I couldn't put up with that now, especially since I am no longer at work all day and would have to live through it or move to temporary quarters for a time. I might need to do that anyway as I am thinking of ripping up floors and taking out part of a wall along with relocating plumbing and lots of other stuff.

When the 2002 work was done I was talked out of ceramic tile for the floors and went with engineered hardwood. While it has held up reasonably well I conclude now that hardwood in a kitchen is a bad idea. Drop something, it dents it. Move something like fridge at your peril of scraping it. Spill water on it and miss it, and it cups and warps. I think next time I might try the luxury vinyl tile that looks like ceramic but has some forgiveness to it.

I really like the stork, I mean flamingo.

We are going home early because of COVID-19. Not too worried about catching it, more worried about things closing up and it being difficult to get on a plane going back. Also, if we are in lock down - like in Italy, we could end up overstaying our allotted number of days.
Another problem is IF we needed medical care that could get expensive and hard to find.
I would love to stay until March 28th, but, we are scheduled to leave Tuesday March 17th.

my son just got a deal (offer) accepted on a house. He has been renting for a few years with a roommate, who is moving in with his girlfriend and my son was planning to go out on his own anyway, so figured it was better to buy instead. apparently a hot market, at least on the lower end, these days in Albany. But after getting outbid in a feeding frenzy on one place, found another he actually likes better for just slightly more money. In the last year it had a fancy new kitchen put in. They took down the wall between the kitchen and DR/LR (it is an older ranch) so nice and open. He wanted no part of a place that needed significant work.

as to virus, we were supposed to be making a trip to Chicago over Memorial day WE. Planning to pass on that now. just don't want to deal with it.

There are very few cars out there that can pull off wearing Orange. That Stinger GTS is one of them. As is @qbrozen 's Daytona Charger.

    How's your knee @qbrozen?

Speaking of Orange Dodge's and cars that SHOULD be Orange, Last night on my way home, I saw an '10 - '12ish Red Challenger R/T. "01" on the Doors & a Confederate Flag on the roof (behind the sunroof). It was RED! Not ORANGE! RED! If you are going to put the full "Dukes" treatment on your modern Challenger, it should at least be ORANGE!

Anyone have opinions of Pro Publica's bailout tracker. Interesting stuff. Appears to be fairly accurate.

I've learned that "we paid all the loans back, it's just stock losses" on the bailouts is false too. Doesn't surprise me given the other lies we've heard. Lots of loans were not paid back, for example, look up GMAC. The returned/paid off amount is lower than the borrowed/loaned/handed out amount.

I'm sure someone here will chime in that it is a right-wing conspiracy.

We lost money on Chrysler's bailout too.

Speaking of non-political things, how do you like the new sculpture at Tampa International Airport?

I may be in the minority, but I love that! Very cool idea.

While I don't read Pro Publica regularly, I do have faith in the quality of their reporting. I contributed my opinions about my layoff experience from IBM for their article they published a couple of years ago.

Question is, will the airlines / hotels / oil and gas industry companies be lined up in DC with their hand out, next?

Doing a kitchen is tough, but worth it in the end.

We did a full gut about 9 years ago and it's been great, just now things are showing a touch of wear and the walls could use a coat of paint. My kids managed to put a few dents in the fridge, I wonder if a PDR guy could fix it and if it would be worth it? We are the only ones who notice it.

I'm thinking in the fall I'll put down a new floor and paint before the holidays. We never liked the floor we chose anyway.

I somewhat agree with you on the wood floor. We put in 3 1/2" solid maple flooring when we re-did the kitchen about 3 years ago. It does dent. It is just so gorgeous.

I was installing the over cabinet LED lighting right after the cabinets were put in and dropped my needle nose pliers. Of course they hit the floor points first and put 2 little holes in the maple. I guess that should have been a warning.

Well, Son #1 is going to need help with his second flip house but he doesn't need help from butter-fingers. :'( His first flip had laminate floors in the living room, dining room, hall and kitchen. But they were protected with cardboard as soon as they were installed. They were in perfect shape when the house was sold, but man, we had to be extremely carefull until the cardboard was removed at the very end of all the work. Several neighbors stopped by for a look-see when we were done and their jaws literally dropped when they saw those floors. They look good alright but way more work than I'd want to put up with as far as I'm concerned. But that is what people want today so his second flip will have that too but not laminate because that house has the old fashioned red oak floors EXCEPT in the kitchen, so he's going to add real hardwood there too.

It's a shame he won't be calling you because, of all the guys in here, you're pretty close.

We could go to the house and take turns dropping stuff until we get thrown out and have to go to Primanti Bros. for lunch.

We have laminate floors in the kitchen. IMO they held up well for nine years with two young kids and a dog.

There are a few chips and one spot where an ice cube must have melted in the seam but the finish is still nice and shiny. We just don't like the color, I want to replace it with the click-lock vinyl. That is about perfect for a kitchen IMO.

The living/dining room is a cherry colored bamboo. That scratches as bad as hardwood so you have to be careful but I'm pretty impressed with how it's holding up as well. A touch pen or a dab of stain makes any deep scratches disappear.
