"Unbelievable speeds. We're talking 191 miles an hour … 85 metres a second, 280 feet per second," he added, saying the car was moving so fast other drivers would not have been able to react to get out of its way in time. (That is traveling the distance of a football field in 1 second)
Schmidt said when he was first sent a photo of the radar gun showing 308 km/h he thought the officer was joking and had been down at an airport training his laser on planes taking off.
Not often, but every once in a while I see a pickup with the exhausts going up out of the bed, right behind the cab. Every time I see that I think to myself...”who thought that was a good idea to cut into the bed and put a smelly and vibrating exhaust behind their head?” Then, I get my answer as I pass by and see the drivers....usually more eyes than teeth.
Yeah!!! My 💈 barbershop opened this morning at 9:00 AM and I was able to get an appointment with my barber at 2:00 PM. Thank goodness. Can't wait to get this excess hair off my head!
A lot of these crazy speeding claims lately have me wondering.
Yeah...I think there’s some “tall tales”, either by the reporter, or the the constables, about this. I don’t know of ANY tires on any AMG C Class capable of 190+ MPH. Plus, there’s the limiter, which I suppose could have been removed.
Anyway, the teen isn’t going to be driving (at least not legally) for a very long time.
If it was tuned and the limiter removed, Could get that high. Hopefully suitable tires, but I bet any performance tire will survive a short run at that speed.

I'm wondering like GG if there are tall tales here. But is it illegal in Canada to remove a limiter if it did exist on the automobile? I believe it's illegal in the US to bypass certain emissions controls.
Never mind that it's illegal to be driving at some speeds far over the speed limits and over limits of common sense.

Limiters are normally put on so the car won’t exceed the speed rating on the tires.
This was written in 2010 on MBClub , and probably makes sense on that 2014 C63; I think the key component that couldn't cope would be the driver. Pretty much everything else can be designed to (e.g. The veyron) but at 155 you're covering 2.5 miles a minute and the chances of seeing and anticipating anything early enough to do anything about it, for the average driver is pretty remote. And thats at the limiter, without it, many cars these days would nudge 200. Thats over 3 miles a minute. 155 is fast enough for public roads. It's enough to get you jailed in the UK anyway. Even the autobahns these days are too busy to maintain such a speed for more than a few seconds at a time. Even if you could hit the brakes and slow by 50mph, you're still clocking over 100 and at that speed, there'd be nothing left. https://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/index.php?threads/top-speed-limiter.74389/
Closing in on 5 months of ownership/driving the Kia Stinger. Nothing really to report. I’ve got 5K miles on it.
-Best one tank MPG 32 MPG. Manual calculations, although I find the Stinger’s computer to be about 1% optimistic, overall. I was shocked by that. Granted, all highway driving. Cruise control set at 74 MPH. Sneaking into central KY and back home again across the OH River. City MPG seems to be hovering around 19-20 MPG. 22-23 MPG in mixed driving. A bit less than the Acura TLX, but the Stinger is a lot more of a sports tourer. Have run ONLY PUG from Costco in it.
-Cruise works in stop and go traffic, nearly autonomous. There is no “throw out the anchor” feeling with the cruise when coming up on traffic. It’s the smoothest implementation I’ve experienced.
-screwed together as well as anything I’ve ever driven (including some high buck German iron), probably better. Materials stack up well to anything I’ve ever driven.
-no squeaks, no rattles, no errors. Hope this continues well into my ownership.
-nits...the rear window is small. I can see out just fine, but when I jump back into my TLX, it’s very noticeable. The Stinger gas tank is small. Even with good MPG, I’m getting 225-250 miles before I hit the under ¼ tank mark (which is where I look for a fill up). I turn off the LKAS in town because the little “ding” that emits when I touch a lane line irritates me. On the highway, it doesn’t. Not sure why. I think there’s a way to keep LKAS functional without the ding, but I have to find the magic spell they say exists to do so.
It’s comfortable. It’s fast. It rides well and handles rough pavement with firm, but never jolting or uncomfortable feeling. It handles as well as anything with 4 doors I’ve driven. In brief, I couldn’t be more pleased.
Moving onto the TLX, talk about a contrast. Where I thought the TLX was sporty, it feels limo like in comparison to the Stinger. Again, nothing to report. It is just a very nice, quick (not nearly as quick as the Stinger), well appointed and well made sedan....premium materials and traditional Honda bulletproof reliability. Honestly, there is nothing to complain about with the TLX. It’s never been to the dealer for anything but routine maintenance (even those visits have been few and far between). These are just wonderful cars, and probably the reason why I still have it. It’s going to need tires (coming up on 40K miles) this summer sometime.
IF someone made me a fair offer for it, I’d have to think long and hard before selling it.
I grew up watching Stiller and Meara on TV variety and talk shows. With Jerry's passing they are together again. This bit about computer dating is short, sweet and still very funny stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H--kLKTGzaQ
A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing.
Back in the ‘80s Audi, BMW, and M-B entered into a “Gentleman’s Agreement” to limit their cars to 155 mph to placate the Green Eco-Weenies and the Safety [non-permissible content removed]. They now fudge on that a bit depending on the car. Manufacturers will also sometimes select a lower speed on the limiter to allow them to cut corners on tire costs. My Club Sport had a limiter that was ridiculously low(116 mph) so I removed that. The Mazdaspeed had a 155 mph limiter that I changed to 186 mph to reflect the speed rating of the PSS tires I had installed, although I think the best it could do was 175 mph downhill, sad to say.

GG, Thanks for the review of the Stinger. It is always good to know how the new car feels once you have had it for awhile. I wonder if it could go 191 mph..........should see what top speed is. Add the Stinger to your signature when you get a chance.
Jerry Stiller was a terrific cast member on "Seinfeld" for many years playing George Castanza's father. As a team, Stiller and Meara, they were also extremely good commediens. People like Jerry Stiller and Rodney Dangerfield and Groucho Marx and Bob Hope are mixed with hundreds of others who made us laugh. Remember, laughing is good for the soul!
GG, what is your split between the two in terms of driving time?
Roughly.....70% Stinger/30% TLX. I try to drive one or the other at least 2-3X/week. That said, there are days I don't go out at all with all the recent virus stuff going on. I'll walk to a near by park with my dog. But, I drive on nice days (which today is NOT one) to go to the grocery or to visit one of many, many parks within a 30 mile radius of me (which sometimes takes me into IN and KY). I do drive to Indianapolis from Cincinnati every other week to help out my sister. Her husband is quite ill and he's still at home (about to have hospice come in). I give her a break to just go out and drive around, or just to to the grocery. I'll probably up that to once/week next month as I'll have a lot more time on my hands (my "official" last work day is May 31).
I'm not driving back and forth to the airport once/week any more. That was the majority of my mileage previously.
For good or ill, I do have an underground of people who I've been relying on for things like haircuts, etc. Actually, the lady who cuts my hair has a little salon set up in her home. That's how she got her start. She opened it back up again for her long time customers (like me). Even my butcher has offered to deliver. I don't order that much, but have been a customer for so long he just adds me to his route when he's out for deliveries.
I prefer to do my own grocery shopping vs using Instacart or any of the other shopping services. So, I do that every week. I've never had the need for TP, paper towels that some experienced. My Costco has kept in good supply. The GF has come up with a good recipe for antiseptic towelettes. She uses a combination of aloe gel, alcohol and some "flowery" smell good stuff that she soaks paper towels in (the "half sheet" paper towels work best). She cuts them up and stuffs them in old Clorox antiseptic towel dispensers. Works great.

As to the compromised rear window view, perhaps you should look into a video rear view camera. They give you an unobstructed wide angle view with the ability to switch back to normal rear view hassle free. Also, the rear-view video mirrors are available with withwireless capability or hard wired.
GG, Thanks for posting....reminds me of the good old days when we could go out for dinner and enjoy ourselves!
This was the last time we went out to eat. You can tell it’s an outdoor venue. They had those big heaters outside which kept it relatively warm. But, she’s constantly cold. This was taken right after she drank some of my bourbon to warm up. She’s not a big drinker, as you can tell. LOL!
If daddy can buy him the car, he can buy one's way out of responsibility. Remember the golden rule. It happens in Vancouver quite often - devilspawn of residency purchasing unvetted fortunes (read: CCP kleptocrats) race around in ill-gotten supercars, get nabbed by the rozzers, get a relative slap on the wrist.
The right tuned/de-governed C63 could possibly hit such a speed, but I wouldn't put my life on LEO claims, that's for sure.

Maybe the computer programs for the speed limiters are like the VW/Audi computer programs for diesel engines. They faked low emissions when the car was being checked by the "authorities" but didn't work to limit anything the resting of the time.
We drove on the highway yesterday for about 15 miles. The traffic was about 10% of what it would be without the virus, but the percentage of speeders seemed to be more than average......like about 1/3rd of the drivers were driving much faster than the limit, or were weaving in and out or cutting people off to get ahead. The police are reporting catching more speeders than usual too.
My guess is that since people are locked up more, and they see an empty road....they get this impulse to let the car go!
Not only that, if you could seem how much time it would take to get from 150-190 MPH, you'd know it was BS.
You think the 191 mph in the C 63 is B.S.? It has been on every newscast.....and it had to register on the radar. Not saying the whole thing could be a mistake, but I would say an 80% chance it is real. I don't know about the Corvette, but if this story about the C63 is fake........there will be a big uproar about the police not doing their job properly, and I can see lawsuits.

Car has to be modified, in excellent condition, with 30 miles of open highway, and a driver that can handle it. Even then, I doubt a C-Class has the aerodynamics to reach 190.
What radar unit has to be calibrated and checked to be accurate at 150 mph+?
I took the Florida Turnpike up to the Boca Raton exit (10 minute drive) in order to get my haircut at my barbershop - I was doing 65 mph in the center lane and the cars were passing me at 80-85 mph, and a couple over that. Sure the roads have less traffic, but these drivers are driving as if they were on the Autoban in Germany. It was downright scary - speed limit is 65 mph. I moved over to the right lane because I had no desire to have my new car rear-ended.
But the trip was worth it - I now have a nice, short head of hair. The barber had to thin my hair out it was so thick. He had me in his chair for 45 minutes. I felt so guilty that he had to work so hard on my hair that I gave him a very hefty tip - it was worth every penny.
This was the first day of operation for the barbershop in over 45 days. They were all set up for customers. As I entered, they made sure I had a mask on and then they put a clear plastic smock over my head that covered my shoulders down to my hips. Then, they put a towel on my lap as I sat down. Barber was wearing gloves and a mask. Only every other barber's chair was in use - they usually have 10-12 barbers there, but only 6 today in order to keep appropriate distancing. They were very well prepared.
we went down to Delaware again Saturday, and the traffic on 95 and 295 was moving fast. I had cruise on at 74 at one point and was getting passed like I was standing still. Down by the DE/PA border, did see a couple troopers in the median but didn't see anyone pulled over.
Good news on your hair Mike. I am still rocking my home made Do. going on 2 weeks now. In a couple more will have the girls make another pass through it, and work on the top some more.
First nice spring day of the year here so I was out front trying to start the rehab of my front lawn, again. This time last year, it and many of the other lawns in my area had been decimated by crows in late winter/early spring. Flocks of them would descend and tear up the sod in search of food, namely insects. Experts quoted in the press said it was something that occurred every decade or two, but why I do not know.
After raking away the debris the crows left I ended up buying a dozen or so bags of lawn soil, spreading it, then reseeding and fertilizing. It went well until midsummer when the new grass was overtaken by weeds of a type I had never had previously. In doing some research I learned that the brand of soil I used apparently was the source. Lucky me. This spring there were areas with no grass at all, but instead were covered with what looked like moss at a distance. Closer inspection revealed it was a low carpet-like plant with tiny flowers, possibly chickweed. Unlike moss, getting it out is a chore. I tackled that today and am not done yet.
Anyway, the point of all this was that given the nice weather, I saw lots of vehicles out and about. The wannabe motorcycle raceboys were out with their loud bikes, but also plenty of cars with loud exhausts and squealing tires. It is going to be interesting because schools have not been in session since March and won't be until September, so there were lots of little kids out on scooters or small bikes with a parent using either the sidewalk or the street, far more than I ever recall seeing previously. I hope there aren't any accidents now that the cars and motorcycles are out mixing with them. One other disturbing thing I noticed was that maybe one car in 10 that stopped at my corner was emanating the pungent stench of weed, use of which while driving has become an epidemic here ever since legalization.
Not only that, if you could seem how much time it would take to get from 150-190 MPH, you'd know it was BS.

Did a radar register 308 km/h on that Benz? Sure. Was he going way too damn fast? Probably.
Was he *actually* going 308 km/h? Hell no. I'm not convinced it's physically possible with that vehicle.
Does radar have to be actively switched from stationary to mobile? And how does it actually account for the speed of the police vehicle? Cop doing 110k in the opposite direction, radar thinks he is standing still, the Benz would still be going nearly 200 km/h which is still egregious. But I will join the chorus calling BS on 308.

I was talking to a friend yesterday who happens to be a PA State Trooper. He said they aren't stopping anyone for speeding right now unless they are going way, way too fast.

I drove home and back today... it was like the Indy 500 on the Expressway and Parkway.
I CC’d at 74 on the way home early this morning and drove in the pack on the way back. Looked down a few times and was into some serious speed. No troopers except one on 42 letting everyone go 75-80 in a 55.

LOL! We were with a bunch of friends listening to another musician friend play at this restaurant/bar. GF kept stating she was cold and that she didn't know how long she would stay. Put her coat over her and wrapped her up like a burrito.
We did actually leave shortly after this pic was taken.
I just texted this pic to her. She said the same thing I did..."that's the last time we went out to eat. Man was I (her) cold."
We're looking for places to go out to this weekend as restaurants that have outdoor seating are going to start serving again.

I hear you. My practical side keeps telling me I don't need two cars. I just like both of them. I did like the Cobra. I just didn't drive it much. And, I'm not sure a muscle car would net me all that much more than the Stinger performance wise.
Although, I do like the idea about the pickup. I guess I can be really impractical and get a pickup to add to the stable.
I'll call similar shenanigans on the ILX claim above. Unless a highly modified vehicle on a very long straight stretch, no way in heck.
And on the C63 footage, a cop claiming it on internet video doesn't tell me it is true anyway - not like there's any legit recourse for being fast and loose with facts. Car appears bone stock in the clip, several years old, doesn't even appear to be a 507.
I suspect some lawyers are going to have fun getting these speeders off the hook. Reminds me of an old claim of a Hyundai Excel going 115. No way.
156 kms an hour is 97 mph............that is very easily done...I'd be surprised if an Acura couldn't go that fast. Everyone thinks it is a conspiracy theory story......it is possible but it would make the police look pretty stupid. As to whether the car could go that fast....I posted lots of sites that say it can easily be done, go back and read them. For ease, I'll add this one which was written in 2010 - older than the C 63 in the picture probably, and they say a Mercedes could reach 200 mph without a limiter - that was in 2010! Lots of sites say it is possible, and we don't know what dear old dad has done to modify the car too; https://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/index.php?threads/top-speed-limiter.74389/
Oops, misread the ILX in mph I'd think one of those would top out around 130 mph.
C63 in the OPP story is no newer than 2014. People on brand-specific forums say a lot of things, but seldom offer up anything more than stories. I'd want to know more about the stretch of road where the supposed incident happened, mods on the car, calibration of radar etc, before believing it just because a badge made a claim. They don't have a perfect track record.
I figured it was a conversion miss! considering I have the same drivetrain in my TLX and can easily creep up to 85 without even noticing . so another 10 on top of that, might start realizing the sensation of speed, but I imagine the car will be perfectly happy to do it.

I used to teach a CLE on radar speed enforcement(since on the interstate I averaged 25 to 30 mph over the incredibly moronic 55 mph NMSL I made a point of learning about the offensive weapons of my opponents in detail). In moving mode the radar reads the road speed to get vehicle speed, which is subtracted from the closing speed of the approaching vehicle. If you kept the unit in stationary mode the speed reported would be the closing speed.

One of my more ill advised stints was back in the late 90s in my Saturn, when I tagged onto the back of 3 much more capable cars and cruised for a few minutes at 105-110 mph. It was just right to stay out of the limiter which was 112.

Other than that, maybe it has been tuned, which often includes removing the limiter.

Never mind that it's illegal to be driving at some speeds far over the speed limits and over limits of common sense.

I think the key component that couldn't cope would be the driver.

Now, I'm meandering. Ran across this pic of us right before the whole COVID thing hit....
Very comprehensive and terrific review as usual. As to the compromised rear window view, perhaps you should look into a video rear view camera. They give you an unobstructed wide angle view with the ability to switch back to normal rear view hassle free. Also, the rear-view video mirrors are available with withwireless capability or hard wired.

The right tuned/de-governed C63 could possibly hit such a speed, but I wouldn't put my life on LEO claims, that's for sure.
Only a few of that model can attain such speeds, and it wouldn't be easy on that road - I am calling shenanigans.

My guess is that since people are locked up more, and they see an empty road....they get this impulse to let the car go!

Car has to be modified, in excellent condition, with 30 miles of open highway, and a driver that can handle it.
Even then, I doubt a C-Class has the aerodynamics to reach 190.
What radar unit has to be calibrated and checked to be accurate at 150 mph+?

A police vehicle can't go that fast.
Probably combined closing rate.

I CC’d at 74 on the way home early this morning and drove in the pack on the way back. Looked down a few times and was into some serious speed. No troopers except one on 42 letting everyone go 75-80 in a 55.

No way.
Lots of sites say it is possible, and we don't know what dear old dad has done to modify the car too;
