We received notice from our childcare that they’re reopening the first week of June. Very strict requirements and thus will not be able to open at full capacity. They had a ranking system and we were invited back.
The most challenging requirement will be that my little one (at age 3) will need to wear a mask except at meal times and during nap. We will see how that goes. We’ve ordered a bunch of masks we can rotate for him - Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies, Frozen, and Moana.
A new world we are about to be re-entering.
I wouldn’t want to have the job of keeping 3 year olds 6 feet apart. I can tell from personal experience on the school bus that kids that age are “huggy”.👶👧

Our philosophy is we will follow the rules and send him with everything, but leave it to the teachers to enforce the rules during the school day. As they say, not my circus, not my monkey. I’m sure they’ll adapt and figure it out.
The kids are so excited to go back. Mine started jumping up and down giggling when he heard.

changing topics again, interesting to see how some businesses have adapted to pandemic life. Today is my wife's B'day, and she got to pick dinner and decided she wanted from our favorite Mexican restaurant. Of course they are fully curbside delivery, and have the process dialed in. they have big professionally made banners with instructions outside, and the whole process on their website. You order over the phone, pay, and arrive and just park in the lot. when your food is ready, they call you and ask what king of car, and you pull up by the door. then they run out, drop the bag in the car, and you are done. Simple, clean and efficient. and food was still really hot when we got it home (I burned my fingers on the bottom of the tin of rice!)
I am sure they want to open back up normally, but they seemed to be doing a great business this way based on how many cars were picking up between 4:30-5:00, and that they stop taking orders by 6 (and if you call at 5:30 you probably aren't getting your food until 8!)
if nothing else, save a lot on the bar tab, and don't have to worry about if you can have that extra drink with dinner and still be able to drive home!
When we had the addition done the inspector made the contractor put a pipe in the ground before the crawl space slab was poured. It vents out the roof. He said it’s precautionary.
I thought it was weird since the house was tested when I bought it and no problems.
Mrs D100 loves her new Tinco A11 cordless vacuum. She thought her Dyson was the ultimate but the Tineco is better in every way. At breakfast she actually said "I like the way it maneuvers". So, I thought, I wonder if it is made in Germany.....lol? Actually just a few years old and started in Seattle........an American company!

I have a Dyson that is about 5 yrs old. I paid way too much for it. My wife was surprised that I bought it and still won’t use it in fear of dropping and breaking it. It won’t stand on its own so you have to set it down carefully when it’s not hung on the wall to charge. About a year ago the beater bar motor head stopped working. It was out of warranty so I was prepared to buy a replacement part, hoping not to buy a new unit. Dyson sent me the needed parts at no charge, which was a very pleasant surprise. The run time from the battery is starting to fade and the battery isn’t replaceable so not sure what’s next when it becomes unusable.

Is it REALLY not replaceable? Or is it like Apple products and they just say its not replaceable but the brave can pull it off?
My wife is out of her damned mind when it comes to vacuums. I have a dyson sitting in my garage that is relegated to car use. Her excuses for kicking vacuums out of the house vary far and wide, from “not enough power” to “It makes a funny smell.” My folks had ONE vacuum their entire marriage. I’ve averaged at least 1 every 2 yrs.

I have the one Electrolux horizontal tank vacuum cleaner my parents had in my memory. I grabbed it when my sister was liquidating their home. I used to ride it like a horsey when I was little. Much littler than I am now.

Central vac is nice, but the long hose can be a pain. We still have and use a Bissell that is closing in on 40 years old. Still have an old Shop Vac I bought about the same time, that gets used in the attic once in a while.

The battery on the Dyson is impossible to get at. Mrs D100 bought a new battery but can't get at it. Everything is accessible with the Tineco. It hangs up on the wall better too...easy to get at. She thought the Dyson was the ultimate - but she is really impressed with the Tineco.

LOL. Up until a few years ago my parents used a Kirby vacuum they bought in the early 80s. My mom decided it was getting too heavy to lug up and down steps so they got a Shark and leave the Kirby upstairs.

We had a Kirby for ages and ages. Good but very heavy. Then we had a central vac system in our Ohio home. Out here we no longer have carpet anywhere, so a much lighter one is better for us. We bought one at Costco — the company is called Bank Vault — very good, and easy to tote up and down the stairs.
Thanks for digging that video up out of DIY land, driver! I can always count on you to scour the world to find a solution to every problem - BUT - I'm gonna call da GUY (MB Guy) to work on my wipers.
Just constructing that cylindrical "jig" would require me to call da guy. So I would need to call 2 guys - one to make the cylindrical jig and the other to bend my wiper arms. I am about as handy as a one-armed wallpaper hanger - and maybe even less adept than that.
If someone is going to perform surgery on my new "baby", I want the "Mercedes Benz car doctor" performing the operation. But thanks anyway Driver100 - you're the one!!!!😇😎🤓
When we owned our two story home, we had two vacuums.
Now that we are in a ranch, just one vacuum for the few places where we have carpet - the bedrooms, and the large area rugs we have covering the hardwood floor.
I still have my mother's Electrolux canister vacuum cleaner on wheels with all the attachments and several waste bags. My guess is that it is 35-40 years old and it still works perfectly. They aren't cheap, but they certainly do last! 😃

I have 2 vacuums also. The first was a Dyson I bought around 2007 or so, a DC7 I believe, an upright. It worked well but at some point around 2010 or so parts of the plastic body cracked. Dyson took it back (sent me a large box designed to fit it along with prepaid shipping), fixed it in their facility and sent it back. Still works well but I keep it downstairs now and have a newer Dyson ball upright for the main floor which I bought when they were clearing out their corded models. I don't trust batteries.
We had an older Electrolux upright. Rugged thing. Just recently the motor mount in it must have broken or something and it’s making a hell of a racket but still working.
I threw it in the basement and we are using a small Shark that my Mom had from her house.
Seems to work well. Wife always hated the Electrolux because if the bag was old and you were using it awhile it smelled a bit.
We have very little carpet anyway.
If we had carpet everywhere I’d just buy a new Electrolux or Miele and be done with it.

I did it more for fun...it would be crazy to bend the wipers yourself on a brand new $70k+ car. ....probably void the whole warranty. Just wanted to show there are cures...if that guy can do it then the dealership should figure out a way to do it.
You never know what those wiper blades have picked up off the windshield - bird turd is the first thing that entered my mind - definitely too scary to touch!

I seem to recall one fellow around here who liked to do his own DIY oil changes. He is a very knowledgeable guy, and you know what, the $40 cost of an oil change ended up costing $5000. What's that saying about a little bit of knowledge can be a bad thing? I see it happen in business and in peoples personal lives like my SIL....tries to save a few bucks and it ends up costing him way more. He's the one who made an AWD car into a 2WD car ****Besides, I like to keep knowledgeable people employed - I may need them one day, and it is good for the economy.
That 191 MPH maniac has a greater chance of killing you rear-ending you at your "speed limit or just above driving" than they do rear-ending the other speed maniac going 155 MPH, whereby the collision force is only 36 MPH.
don't be to sure about that, sure that 191 mph car hits the 155 mph car at a speed of 36 mph relative to the 155 mph car, but that car is still going 155 mph. A 3k to 4k pound car doing 155 mph has a lot of kinetic energy stored up in it that will have to be released in the accident. It's not the same as hitting a stationary car at 36 mph.
Oh, I'm sure about it, probably to 5 confidence intervals. I acknowledge getting rear ended while driving 155 MPH will be an unpleasant experience, but I assure you, it won't be as unpleasant as getting rear ended by a guy going 190 MPH if your only going 65 MPH. You better hope you have the much bigger heavier and/or better built car!
Really? In both cases people in both cars are equally dead.
Nonsense, after getting hit with a force of 36 MPH, you simply come to a stop in a straight line; I seriously doubt a 36 MPH collision will cause brake failure. I think it's a fair assumption at these high speeds everyone was going in a straight line, so there's no reason to assume any force would be exerted to your sides.
There is really nothing simple driving north of 150. At 155 aerodynamics are in play and you dont have the grip you would have at half that speed and you are far less stable. At those speeds anything that disturbs the car, ever so slight, could make it a very bad day for you. Getting hit from behind at that speed your coming to a stop alright but if you do it by braking it's your lucky day. In racing cars going that fast regularly crash being hit at speed differences of only a few miles per hour. The physics dont agree with you.
You forgot Newton's laws in your Physics. That which is going in a straight line will tend to continue in a straight line. So you agree with me if the speed differences are a "few miles per hour" but disagree that 36 MPH is not a minor collision, OK. We can agree to disagree. These are crumple zones colliding at 36, not brick walls. So where's your line of a "few MPH?" 10 MPH delta? Also, the types of cars capable of going 155 or 190 MPH especially aren't the type that instantly lose control when they get tapped on the butt. Of course, someone suggested a Soul could go 150; I don't buy it.
I can personally attest that my vehicle is very stable at 140 MPH, mechanical spoiler up at that speed with down-force and all. I honestly believe it'll take a side impact vector to make me lose control, but again, I have the proper tires for 140 safe speeds too.
I am very familiar with the first law of motion which states that an object in motion stays in motion at the same direction and speed unless acted on by an outside force. Now ignoring all the other outside forces affecting the vehicle anothe car hitting it at a speed difference of 35 MPH is an outside force acting on it. Now will that impact just cause the slower vehicle just to go forward, likely not. The center of gravity of both vehicles must match exactly in height, horizontally and in direction which would be hard to achieve especially considering that the driver in the striking vehicle tries to avoid the collision. And even if it does match there are the other forces acting on the car, especially how the driver reacts when struck.
I am glad you have a car that violates the laws of physics because cars will lose stability as speed increases.

Those are probably popular right now....so they are basically sold out. They probably don't want to sell the display models though you could ask. Try amazon!

That's a fine looking piece of design. My grandma still has a Kirby they bought in the early 60s IIRC - but it is too heavy for her now, so she uses a lighter stick thing. Her house is mostly hard floors with a some rugs, so it doesn't need to be as intense.

However, inserting Bosch rubber in the OEM blade holders was a godsend. But those cars had a different blade holder than the current cars, and such a swap isn't possible now.

Wh had a cleaning lady who brought in her own Kirby. I actually thought about buying a Kirby, used, to have one of my own that she could use. It could suck wood fibers up through carpet, it was so good. She actually had two Kirby cleaners since she did cleaning as a business.
I bought a Hoover Widepath that consumer misreports recommended as the best vacuum ability. I bought a second one for Imid Jr when he was in his own apartment at OSU. Later Son and wife bought a different vacuum and gave me back my extra unit. Still use one in house and one in garage. I think the couple bought one of the overhyped Shark models that's supposedly dog and cat hair capable, as if other vacuums aren't. Likely fell for brainwashing advertising after seeing it for a long time and believing it.
I still appreciate Kirby vacuums. I talked to a seller of new and used ones who repaired and refurbished them. Heavy suckers. But if you need a paint sprayer or carpet shampoo unit, they're capable of that too with the add ons. Amazing.

Even I can do oil changes correctly on my GM's. I don't on the Malibu and Cruze because both are still under warranty bumper bumper. Dealer cost is not outrageous so I've had them do the changes.

For what I am sure was under $200, that Hoover has been a bargain. Only issue now (other than a crack in the cord that I "fixed" with hockey tape) is that filters are getting hard to find - most stores don't carry them anymore, but I can still usually find one online without problem. I fear that won't last forever. Definitely no plans to replace it until it either conks out, or I can't get parts anymore.
In the early 80s, my mom bought a Panasonic vacuum, as our neighbor had the local vacuum (and sewing machine, IIRC) store - you don't see many of those anymore), and she wanted to buy local. She got around 25 years out of that thing, I think it lasted until around 2010. It was somewhat expensive I believe, but performed. They don't make em like they used to.
If mine conks out, I might see about taking over grandma's Kirby, maybe have it refurbished, that would be kind of cool.

veering back to home improvements (y'all are welcome), we had the deck stipped and powerwashed this week (once it is dry the guy comes back and puts on stain by hand) since I am not spending the money right now to redo it. He offered to do the driveway and walks for a modest extra charge ($100) so we said sure, since it was pretty nasty.
what a transformation. Bright white concrete, practically blinds you! he had one of those wash/scrub machines that looks like a floor polisher. I had seen that on youtube or TV but never in person. very cool. and much faster and better results than a traditional power washer. Happy to have done that.
Well I got the patio all done with the exception of a few adjustments to the steps to the house. Now just have to finish the planting, put down mulch and clean up the area. I assembled the grill yesterday and it now sits in its assigned place. When we picked it up last weekend at Home Depot they asked if we wanted them to assemble it for us, I told them it would be harder for us to get it home assembled. The associates response was that nobody ever thinks about that. I guess I could have just pushed it home as we live less than a mile from the Home Depot.

We have been getting delivery from our favorite restaurants on Friday evenings to show our support. Some you can order from directly, some you go through a delivery service like Doordash or Grubhub. I’m sure losing the bar revenue is tough, but at least we are giving them what business we can. Most of them have smaller menus than usual so they can handle the variables of supply and demand better. We also try to double up with a neighbor so they are getting two deliveries with one stop. Tonight we got dinner from our favorite Indian restaurant. It was delicious!
We are pretty much doing the same thing but going to pick it up. Most places have curbside pickup and if you pick it up it saves the restaurant the doordash and grub hub fees.

So this is why you don't want to have a top speed limiter, as it could cause you to get hit instead of avoiding a collision.
All of you really need to watch crash compilation videos on You Tube, it's what You Tube was invented for! LOL!
It was extremely hard to find videos of higher speed rear end collisions. This indicates to me that higher speed rear end collisions are extremely rare, particularly between two fast moving cars. Almost all of them are caused by a slowing or stopped vehicle failing to slow or stop for that other vehicle. Without slow moving or stopped cars, rear end collisions become a "fantasy" of the myth believing "speed kills" crowd.
I also see no evidence of this mysterious side-vector force, not even a hint. If you've seen it before, most likely you are witnessing anything but a straight line impact, or the fact that someone had their front tires turned already waiting to turn (which is a driver error you should have learned in Driving 102 basics).
Andres, you can continue to be a jackwagon on this subject and bombard the forums with your arguments and “data” that convinces nobody but you. I don’t know what motivates your behaviour here but I hope it is something other than that you enjoy getting reactions and annoying people. By now it should be clear to you that you haven’t convinced anyone. I’d hope that would result in you getting off your one-man bandwagon, but seemingly you are oblivious.
I have found your behaviour here over time to be worthy of action by TPTB based on my experiences elsewhere, but for whatever reason, that has not happened here. So since the mods are disinclined to do anything, I would suggest to the members here other than you that we simply ignore you and your posts going forward, regardless of subject. If nobody responds, you will be talking to yourself. Presumably that will be somewhat unsatisfying for you. Or you can behave like a reasonable person for a change.
It’s up to you.
If you want to stick your head in the sand, and ignore reality, the truth, and obvious data and examples of real world video proof, that's on you.
This is no one-man bandwagon. There are only a couple posters here that use common straw man and red herring logic to perpetuate the myth that speed kills. Most just stay out of it rather than look foolish. I've heard all these silly "examples" before; it's nothing new.
I even said this whole make-believe theoretical example of someone going 190 MPH hitting someone going 155 MPH in a rear-end was ridiculous as it would almost certainly never happen in the real world, but I indulged the fantasies of some here and ran with it anyway. Of course, the person that thought up the fantasy hadn't considered that the slow moving car is far more likely to get hit in the first place, at all, than someone going a "similar" high speed as them, but I ignored the likelihood of a collision (see Solomon Curve for yourself), and just addressed the presumption both would automatically be deadly.
The goal/motivation is to improve the fatality rates in the USA to more closely resemble Germany's, which are half of ours. Some like the status quo, but I believe there's lots of room for improvements, and repeating the same mistakes of the past or keeping the status quo is not the way to get there IMHO.
First of all I can sayThere is a poster here that use common straw man and red herring logic to perpetuate the myth that high speeds are safe.
Second since the U.S. and Germany are in no way similar and vary greatly on factors that determine fatality rates the U.S. will never get to Germanys levels.

Don't I know! Oil changes are hellishly complex; I'm about to stop doing them- my anxiety level is much too high. I may yet adopt the "Ignorance is Bliss!" mantra...
This is getting to be a bit boring? These comments serve absolutely no purpose in advancing any normal conversation. You have said the same thing now 12 different ways, never actually doing a real reply. Maybe your buddy will be amused - haven't seen his "like" yet. *I am sure an oil change is easy to do since they use minimum wage teens to do them at the 5 minute lube place down the street. It has nothing (zero - 0 - nada- niet) to do with anxiety, it is because I have got better things to do with my time. I have done all that stuff when I drove my old cars....I choose not to do it anymore - some of us have a life.
We ordered a pizza for the first time in about 10 years...just for a change. It was OK, but the toppings were hard to find. The second night we had the other half and we added our own toppings....made it 10X as good.
We liked that one so much we got a frozen pizza with our groceries.....we added our own toppings....just pop it in the oven for 15 minutes....it was the best pizza of all and cost 1/3rd the amount!
Next time your traveling between the Great White North and the Mouse State stop by and we'll take you out for some real pizza.

When we had the addition done the inspector made the contractor put a pipe in the ground before the crawl space slab was poured. It vents out the roof. He said it’s precautionary.
I thought it was weird since the house was tested when I bought it and no problems.

We still have and use a Bissell that is closing in on 40 years old.
Still have an old Shop Vac I bought about the same time, that gets used in the attic once in a while.

Now that we are in a ranch, just one vacuum for the few places where we have carpet - the bedrooms, and the large area rugs we have covering the hardwood floor.

I am glad you have a car that violates the laws of physics because cars will lose stability as speed increases.

I have a Hoover "Widepath" I bought maybe in the late 00s - not a fancy brand or model, but rugged and apparently used by some janitorial services back in the day. Still works perfect, and picks up a lot of junk for my small square footage.

However, inserting Bosch rubber in the OEM blade holders was a godsend. But those cars had a different blade holder than the current cars, and such a swap isn't possible now.
Amazing.
