Hope everyone is enjoying today. We had about a foot of snow on the ground yesterday. Due to the warm temps and rain, it's all gone. Got to watch my grandson open his presents via Facetime.

Driver, I am a little confused on where the car is in relation to her father (your brother?), and physically located (in someone's garage, or a repair shop). Certainly not going to be easy to deal with if she just left it some random place. So finding someone local will need to happen. And someone needs to have the keys!
Carvana won't take a car that does not run (or be known to). And I think they need the owner to be there to pick it up.
Selling it privately, or to a local used car lot, should be easy enough if Canada has titles like the US. She would have to sign the title and send it to whoever is actually holding the car.
Stick, appreciate all the suggestions...they help to find a solution. The car is about 60 miles from me, I can help a bit but I am trying to follow covid rules right now....and things are very tight, only grocery and hardware stores open at 25% capacity for 4 weeks. My niece is 2500 miles away from the car......got a job as a lawyer and took off. My brother is about 1800 miles away from the car....he is more knowledgable about cars and is trying to help her out. The car is in a garage....they said they would ship it to her for about $6000, but, she is in Vancouver and doesn't need a car. I will be talking to my brother sometime in the next 3 days. I was just looking for some possible avenues to try, or suggestions to help him out.

Snowy off ramp might help, too.
....except she doesn't know if it will start
A snowy off ramp with a good decline would help if it doesnt start.

Here in Chicago we expect nothing less than that from our judges.
Here are the actions of some of Indiana’s finest judges
So my son and I changed up our Christmas Eve movie TV viewing this year; instead of our usual Die Hard and/or Blackadder's Christmas Carol, we watched Diamonds are Forever, the Seinfeld episode "The Strike", and a couple of The Simpsons and Family Guy Christmas episodes. Today we watched The Office episode "Christmas Party" in between NBA games and will finish up with "A Benihana Christmas" and possibly the classic episode "It's a Bundyful Life" from Married with Children...
Mine: 1995 318ti Club Sport-2020 C43-1996 Speed Triple Challenge Cup Replica

I queued up Die Hard on demand last night. Watching it for the umpteenth time, I realized there are a couple of logic errors in it.

But, still highly entertaining.
We watched "A Christmas Carol" With Captain Picard, "Christmas Vacation", "The Polar Express", some movie where a couple of kids traveled to the North Pole and thwarted some elves plan to ruin Christmas and now we are watching "Risen".

I also watched Christmas Vacation last night. In my opinion it’s un-American (maybe even un-Canadian) not to watch that movie at this time of the year.

I was looking for a rough estimate......poor to good condition. My guess knowing nothing was to get $6000 and run with it. She is over 2000 miles away and doesn't want to come back to sell it. I don't know any more than that. I don't think my brother expected me to find the value, he is working on that, he did want ideas on how she could sell it from a distance.
Hers could have 300k miles and seized engine, or it could have 40k miles and be in the wrapper. So a rough estimate is $100 to $15,000.
A 44k-mile parts car still has some value. Maybe not what they are asking, but 1st amendment and all that.
This one is $17800 with 65000 miles on Cargarus These things are worth a lot more than I thought! I'd rather buy the 2014 C250 with 34000 miles for $10000, though that is trade-in, the Jag is the for sale price.
The lifetime warranty probably costs more than the car. ;b
My son got married last year. My contribution was the rehearsal dinner and the cost of the DJ. Not sure what his mother contributed, but I suspect some of the other costs.
Have told my son on many occasions, I won’t spring for any costs for big wedding. But, if he wants, I’ll spring for two round trip plane tix to Europe, hotel fees for a week, and travel money. He’ll enjoy and remember that trip more than any wedding.
As he tells me, “that’s up to the female”. As I reply...”Says who?”.

My son, his GF, my GF, and I did the same on Die Hard last night. And, we did find some logic errors that we hadn’t seen before.
Elf and It’s a Wonderful Live capped off the evening. After two days of food, cakes, cookies, wine, bourbon gift wrap, and stoking fires in the fireplace, I need a vacation!
Maybe try to watch “Bad Santa” to take the edge off tonight.

1. Not WORTH 4600. ASKING 4600. 2. And it is a low mileage example, even totaled. How about a totaled one with 300k miles and a seized engine?
She was driving it up until she suddenly moved to start a new job, unlikely it had 300k miles and the motor was seized. It might even start up right away, but she is realistic enough to know it might not start after about a year of storage. I doubt if my brother would be asking how to sell it if it was worth $100, but thanks for taking the time to give an estimate.

After a year of storage I’d drain the tank first. Those Jags are finicky enough without trying to run on stale gas. I doubt she put Stabil in it before she ran off.

I have since “buffed” the dust cover. Not perfect, but getting there.
Motor is “dead nuts” accurate speed wise. These “quartz lock” motors on direct drive turntables of the era were amazingly accurate and robust.
The isolation engineering between the platter and the motor is a marvel. They include some pretty sophisticated suspension and vibration absorption technologies. In addition, this thing is heavy, which helps with vibrations, too.
Switches are pressure sensitive but electronic. Disassembling them, cleaning and reassembling today.
The bad...some of the plinth is damaged. Still not sure how I’ll fix it as it’s veneer. Headshell is cracked, so I need a new one. If the headshell is cracked, pretty good bet the cartridge is damaged, too. Not sure how old the stylus is. So, may as well replace the whole cartridge/headshell.
Overall, not in bad shape for a 40 year old turntable. Gonna take me a week or so to finish. Headshell will probably be hard to find.

I could have given a ball park figure putting together the few facts I had. Off of the top of my head without looking anything up I would have estimated $4k to $6k. Looks like it could be worth about that to a dealer, maybe more if in better than average shape - and more if selling privately. Any car that is running and roadworthy is probably worth $3k. The important clue was she was driving it and it was fine, until she suddenly left for a new job 2500 miles away.
Happy Boxing Day to those who celebrate that tradition.
Thanks! We can't even go to a store to buy Boxing Day Specials.....total lockdown in Ontario for 4 weeks beginning today. Only grocery and hardware stores allowed to open at 50% capacity. No gyms, no restaurants (take out only), no skiing, no getting together etc. Had to do it I guess, the numbers were treading upward and hospitals could get overwhelmed.
We got the generator in September and so far it has gone on 5 times.....the first 4 times for about one hour. Last night it went on for just over 3 hours, from 5:30 p.m. until 8:45. For some reason, if the electricity goes our cable goes, so no computer and no cable TV, and no streaming. But, we have DVDs and all they need is electricity to run the DVD player and the TV. I wasn't for getting the generator but it is probably a good thing. So far it has only cost about $2000 an hour for the service, but, that should balance out after a few years, and would be really appreciated if we have a blackout of 5 hours or more.
Happy Boxing Day to those who celebrate that tradition.

Here in Nova Scotia we are in lockdown every Boxing Day as stores are not allowed to open until tomorrow. Just one of many things this hidebound place still clings to. You would not believe the uproar here about allowing Sunday shopping about 12-13 years ago. You would have thought the world was coming to an end.

Same here in Vermont. This State has been quite good at maintaining a lowish level of Covid infections. No national policy, so it's up to each State to do whatever they want. We talked to friends in Florida, and no restrictions at all.

We went to England for Christmas about 25 years ago. We stayed in London and had NO IDEA that even the Tube closes for 2 days. Our kids were small then and we had to be content walking around the closed up neighborhood. Even finding an open restaurant was not easy.
If you did not receive your gift before Christmas; this probably what happened.
Well, he did deliver it! Those poor UPS guys, I wonder how many deliveries they do in a day? It looked like it could have been a flat screen TV......and it probably survived. We get something from Amazon or other free delivery service (Costco, Racquet Guys) about 5 times a week.

We were in England about 15 years ago on Boxing Day. We knew everything would be closed so we took with some bread and a jar of peanut butter. PB is the most perfect food, needs no refrigeration, portable, easy to prepare, doesn't spoil, cheap, nutritious.......... On the way home on that trip we were chosen at random to have our luggage completely checked, when they found the peanut butter they let us go, guess they knew we were just tourists.

Is it a standard/generic connector for the headshell to the arm?
Thanks, AB. Yeah...straight 4 pin headshell. I saw a couple of those on the Bay. As you say, not cheap. Got some “stuff” hanging out in my “closet of audio past”. But, no headshell that will fit. I do have a P-Mount headshell/cartridge, but I’d need an adapter to use it.

Always liked that model. Good luck getting it all sorted.
Some relaxation in the media room today with one of my all time favorites.
Video stinks but the DTS soundtrack still sounds awesome.

I barely remember my wedding day, it seemed to go by so fast it seems like a blur.
It seems everyone is dumping on the USPS, but sometimes they go above and beyond. Some important documents got mailed to me from Germany. The address was missing the town and zip code. Someone hand wrote it in and the papers arrived today.

We went to England for Christmas about 25 years ago. We stayed in London and had NO IDEA that even the Tube closes for 2 days. Our kids were small then and we had to be content walking around the closed up neighborhood. Even finding an open restaurant was not easy.
Oh great, now every diamond smuggler will be hiding their loot in half empty jars of peanut butter.

The shear volume of mail the USPS mails is incredible, they deliver almost 200 million pieces of mail per day.

Hope everyone is enjoying today. We had about a foot of snow on the ground yesterday. Due to the warm temps and rain, it's all gone. Got to watch my grandson open his presents via Facetime.
Can’t wait to see what my grandkids got me.😳

Maybe it will be a new tie!
My grand kids gave me this:
They know their Grampa!
Yep, it must be nice. My grandkids treat me like I’m a total stranger at gift giving events.😫

I think FL has a low cost of living in general - low taxes, lots of cheap housing, and for a long time known for low wages - so retirees or remote workers can come in and feel well off. Add in the weather, and you're a magnet.
In WA, we also have no income tax, relatively low property taxes, but some other cost of living inputs are expensive (housing especially), so it kind of evens out in terms of taxation. Some locals moan and whine about taxes, not understanding the taxes here aren't the issue.
Relatively low property taxes? You ARE kidding....right?
If you think 9000.00 a year for our 2400 sq. foot house in Issaquah is low than you are right on!
Add our ten percent sales tax and high car tabs and we are taxed pretty well I would say!

I have since “buffed” the dust cover. Not perfect, but getting there.
Motor is “dead nuts” accurate speed wise. These “quartz lock” motors on direct drive turntables of the era were amazingly accurate and robust.

In the early 80's 12 % loans were the norm along with a second at 18%. T- Bills were paying 15%..
Of course INFLATION was out of control.
