Car Buying Tips in 2021. Tell a car salesman THESE 10 things to get the best deal by Ari Janessian

Nothing in here is new except I hadn't heard of these two before: FICO specific auto scores and getting half-off any add on products. Watch short YouTube below

    1. You intend on / have already shopped the deal around at multiple stores, and you intend to make a deal today ONLY if you get the number you want.
    2. Your financing options are flexible and they will be clearer based on the best possible terms being offered. Don’t say paying cash.
    3. You obtained your FICO Auto Scores accurately via the myFICO app in the description below. What they want to know is that you’re a 720+ according to FICO Score 5 or 8, not Credit Karmas algorithm.
    4. You are not interested in leasing past 36 months or financing past 60 months so please do not quote me those payments.
    5. Total DAS including first payment for a lease and Out the door for a purchase!
    6. You expect X amount for your trade, and have already had offers made from third parties such as Carmax, Carvana, Vroom, KBB, Edmunds, etc.
    7. You have an interest rate through your credit union that you expect for them to beat. If they can’t beat it, sweeten the deal another way!
    8. You do not want any protection products unless they are giving them for half price! The reason why is because it’s likely you won’t even break even on them!
    9. You will leave a 10/10 Survey if you have a pleasant experience at their store. This actually means something to them financially.
    10. You watch and Subscribe to Ari on YouTube so you know all his tricks already :)

So many so called "experts" out there dispensing information.

In my last few years in the Honda business most of my customers were repeat and referrals. They knew that I would treat them like a person and be upfront with them. That's all I ever had to do.
Well, that’s not really true. I remember you telling us about a few hair raising test drives. Which we gathered was the fun part of the biz. :'(

Test Drives were the WORST part of my job! I am now a nervous wreck when others are driving and I don't like driving myself on the freeway. I think there were two times I made the driver pull off the road and I drove back to the store. Some people sure did some dumb thing to "test" a car!

Water absorbing into the ethanol mixture if there's is much air exchange in the above fuel air volume is a problem. That's partly why I suggested the Sea Foam added to help pick up extra water absorbed into the ethanol and run it through the filter and injectors. The other is the Sea Foam adds chemicals that cut varnish or whatever materials precipitate during 2 years of storage.

Florida is fairly humid and even a small air space above the fuel will breathe with temperature changes and through the pollution controls bringing in fresh water vapour. If the car had been stored in Minnesota, there'd be less concern about the water percentage.

Interesting reading the comments on old fuel:

That's true. Even here east of the mountains, it is pandemonium - 20% YOY gains for some time, people who bought in 2015 now have doubled their money, "affordable" new listings pending in a day being snatched up often by flipper opportunists and rental investors, as first time buyers are left without the "dream". Population here is expanding just like Puget Sound, and there was about 25 year housing pause in these parts, which means a dearth of housing stock. At least there's ample land here, but it probably costs 150% as much to build a house than 10 years ago.

You’d have to move out of the northwest to realize any of that gain.

I used to hate going to Spokane on business trips. All I would hear is gloom and doom from our distributors and constant talk of how bad everything was. For years houses were well less than half what they cost here. Winters were miserable and summers pretty hot. But now, things have changed. I know that! A buddy is kicking himself because he sold a house in the South Hill area a few years back and it has now doubled. Boise isn't far behind!

A friend gave me a bottle of Jameson Irish Whiskey last night. I’ve never tasted this brand before - what should I expect when I open the bottle? Anyone familiar with this?

Expect very little. Mix it with some Ginger Ale or Coke. Maybe make a whiskey sour with it... but IMO don’t drink it straight.
That bad, eh? Maybe I will regift it! 🤪😜🤓
Well yes and no. Whisky like everything else has different reactions to different people. What someone may like you may not like it and visa versa. Everyone has different palates and different preferences so what's good for one person may not be good for another. I personally like Jameson and would recommend it if you like whisky's, or at least trying it. Try it straight and open it up with a few drops of water and see how that is.

If you like it then it's good, if not offer it to guests.

Or you could order it as an after dinner drink when you go out to eat to try it out therefor keeping the bottle unopened in case you don't like it and want to regift it.

Or if it’s lousy, go dump it in Drivers gas tank to clean out his fuel system.
Oh now we have a problem. if you put a whole bottle of whisky in the tank would that make the car legally drunk?
    I think so.
    1 bottle of whiskey = 25 ounces.
Number of ounces in a gallon = 128
    Gallons in a tank = 20
Number of ounces in 20 gallons = 2560
Which would be the whiskey would breathe .9765625 which is more than .08.
You better check my math snake.

Of course interest rates are rising; I'm emptying my savings for down payment on new condo build. And, in ~9 months, I'll need a new mortgage. Hence, rising rates.
You're welcome to savers and apologies to borrowers.

Found this on freep today. New 2021 Ford F-150 Police Responder reaches 120 mph, more control when cornering. "The pursuit-rated pickup truck... is available just in time for government bid cycles this spring." Pursuit rated pickup? Has to be a first.

I tried the Jameson Irish Whiskey - not something I would rave about. I prefer a single malt scotch - much smoother and more satisfying.

I will be offering this whiskey to neighbors and friends served with water and ice. 😝😝🤓

Spokane has a history of boom or stagnate, I think. No huge busts that I recall, but not 35 years of constant boom like Puget Sound. I think this area last had something expansionary in maybe the late 70s-early 80s (judging by houses), and then it was quiet for 25+ years. That can create problems when there's an influx of population, rates are low, and materials expensive.

I got a few snickers from old co-workers when I told them of my move, but I have no regrets. Much better weather in my opinion (I like snow more than rain, and I also don't mind warmth - it's not hot here like Moses Lake or Tri Cities), less traffic (albeit on rougher roads), lower cost of living. I live in lower South Hill, definitely not the cheapest place in town, but it is one of the best areas. Coeur D'Alene is even more expensive than Spokane now, due to an influx of rich out of state retirees, and I too hear Boise is also going nuts.

I think the local Subaru dealer mints money - even more here than on the west side.

After the mass murder here almost a year ago where the perp used a surplus RCMP car that he put realistic graphics and equipment back on, there have of course been numerous knee-jerk moves by govt to make it appear they are doing something to ensure it never happens again (not that it ever happened before, but whatever). Among those are a ban on auctions of surplus police vehicles and destruction of used police uniforms. Now the question was raised as to what to do about the sale of civilian-grade white-painted Ford vehicles that appear identical cosmetically to the police vehicles affected, but nobody is answering that. Of course, the alternative would be clear and explicit legislation making it illegal to drive around in replica police vehicles that were not displaying a "NOT IN SERVICE" or similar sign, but I suppose that since murder is also illegal, such a law would have little effect. However one would suppose the ban on auction sales would be equally ineffective if someone was determined.

What are they going to do with the surplus police vehicles if they don’t auction them off? Crush them? Ship them to the US so some yeahoo can go on a spree?

My BIL bought nothing but ex police vehicles at the state auctions for years. There’s even a YouTube channel East Coast Classics that does tours of state auctions.

Easy.....sell them off to someone who will remove the police insignias and equipment (bumpers etc), paint them to look normal, and then sell them off.
The idea is to make them so they can't be bought and used by jokers who like to play policemen - and there have been a few.

There’s precedent for that. In my state you can buy an old school bus but you have to paint at least 50% of it a different color so weirdos can’t drive around picking up kids.

However, I don’t know how well that’s enforced since I used to see an old mini bus riding around in full National Chrome Yellow. The owner used it to drive his dogs around.

Police cars are simply modified versions of cars that you can get at any dealership. So if ex police cars are not available all someone will have to do is get a regular version of that car and dress it up as a police car. So how do you deal with that?

No... that's what they were already doing. About the only thing visually different between a surplus cruiser at auction and a civilian white Taurus was the Ford-supplied "Police Interceptor" badge on the trunk. All the graphics, radios, rear-seat barriers, light bars, etc were removed before the auction.

Every time I see one of those de-commissioned police interceptor Crown Vics on the road, they’re never repainted. They all have large scars where the decals were removed. And, they all look beat to hell...usually driven by someone who looks like they just crawled out of a cave.

But, I’m sure that’s not true of every interceptor out there. So, if you, or someone you know has one, and it’s in good condition, and the new owner has had a shower in the last couple of weeks, and can form complete sentences during normal conversation, my apologies.

In 1978, our family took a vacation to Tennessee to visit my mom's side of the family. While there, we borrowed an ex-police car that one of the relatives owned and drove it up to NJ to see some of dad's family.

I remember it was a Chevy, repainted beige, and it was pretty basic spec, as you can imagine. I tried to help dad navigate through / around Washington, DC, and not doing a great job with it.

I thought he bought it as a police car and restored it....but, you are right, he actually bought police decals.
So, the law should be....if you buy a former police car or if your car resembles a police car it should have a sign on the roof that says "FAKE POLICE CAR"

I think it would be fun driving around in an ex-police car. You can park it and it doesn't matter if it gets dinged...in fact people probably won't park close to you. And, they look like a real mean machine.

2nd Pfier vaccination a week ago on Wednesday. No real side effects that were noticeable. First time had lethargy for a day, but could do anything I wanted to do. This time the only discomfort was the place where the bolus went in: I could feel the liquid being injected and that spot stayed slightly sore. Not the muscle around it, just that spot.

I have allergies to maple trees blooming and they have been blooming this last week, so that allergy may have covered up anything from the vaccine.

Maybe they gave me a placebo.
