So … over here in Chronic real estate anonymous it’s looking like our full price offer for another place is being accepted.

Nowhere near out of the woods yet since in this market appraisals are tough and I’m not doing what I did for my primary residence. We feel it was priced with the rest of the market (high) but we weren’t getting into a bidding war and made our full price offer last and final right from the start. Our realtor said most properties go way above asking.

And so it begins. Place is nice and on a very quiet block along a harbor and the bay. Not as pretty a view as the small condo but a much larger place. 3/2 with a large garage and storage room. Very nice grounds. Needs some kitchen work (new counter and backsplash for sure) and redecorating but at least most of the furniture is included to get us started.

In season (June 1 thru Mid Sept) even just renting M-F will cover more than half our expenses.

Fingers crossed it all works out.

I will challenge you on that as white is a combination of all colors and hues in the spectrum. This is why you can break white light into different colors. This is why when you combine the three lights of the primary colors you get white. So white is all colors combined therefore it is a color.

Since I usually go on vacation with Son #1 (although I have gone on vacation with Son #2 also) but since Son #1 is the house flipper Son we could do some of your kitchen renovations for a free 2 week stay when you close the deal. Still totally unsure what we're doing about buying a condo. Thinking hilton head, but really just clueless. We're going to book a week down there end of August and see what we see. In the meantime, I had the brilliant idea that refinancing our home here could be a good bet. Turns out, at least preliminarily speaking, we could combine first and second mortgages and take $100k cash and be paying almost exactly what we pay now for just the first mortgage. That cash, plus proceeds from selling the rental home, could go a long way toward a vacation home.

One of my friends has been dealing with a serious health issue, so with no court this week(the Judge is on vacation) we offered to take his two boys to a nearby theme park. Thank heavens the boys are not like my son at that age- he was nicknamed Evel Knievel and wanted to ride every tall/fast/spinning ride in the park. These kids aren’t as enthusiastic about the more extreme rides and are not a problem at all.
In other news, I’m handling a special prosecutor gig in a nearby county. The defendant is a real piece of work; he fired a very good public defender and scraped some money together and hired private counsel. Turns out that the guy he hired can’t appear in court right now because he’s suspended for not having enough continuing legal education credits.
You can’t make this stuff up.

Thanks! No this one is actually in Wildwood not the Crest. It’s on a dead end street along Otten's Harbor, about a block and 1/2 from The Wharf restaurant on the bay. They are doing all kinds of work to the area with new boat slips, ramp etc. Very quiet street and from what I’ve been told and see an area that is only getting better. Lots of construction starting on the other side of the harbor.

We really wanted to be in the Crest, but this is way away from the center of town and boardwalk. We wouldn’t want that!

White is a mixture of all colors. There should be an extra charge on car paint
because you're getting more colors for your money blended.

However, black cars should get a refund since there's no color there in
the light being reflected. Just a price reduction like is given for a delete option?

Up until recently I had three white cars in the garage. Not by design though, they were all bought used with good deals so in that situation you take what color it is (as long as it isn't really bad). Actually I like the white on the Sonata better than the white on the BMW. The BMW it's just white while the Sonata has speckles in it that you have to get very close to it to notice but from a distance it makes the white look better than just plain white of the BMW.

I’ll turn the topic. Thursday we were assigned to airport purgatory all day because the cleaners can’t keep up with cleaning and shuttling cars from our off site lot. Dozens of people waiting in line at an empty garage as we rushed cars in, tossed them the key and hustled the dirty returns back to the cleaners. I got to do a hundred one mile test drives.

During the course of the day we had to rescue many lost souls who showed up at the cleaning facility because they GPS searched for Enterprise and it took them there instead of the airport. I felt sorry for their sad confused faces and lead them back down the road to the right place. Mr. customer service, that’s me.

The only reason I bought a white car was because there were very few CPO RWD M235i
coupes in the US. BMW does offer a metallic white- Mineral White. Me; I hope to never own another white car from any make.

I don't think the paint on the car is exactly free....I am being charged for it somehow. When we bought the 2013 A4 Mrs D100 wanted it to be different, and she asked how much it would be to have it painted Audi Yellow....which was an option on an R/S model. They wanted $4000. They would put it on a different assembly line for painting....so the paint must be worth something!

I just picked up my car at “the guy” where it was getting an oil change and saw a yellow car just like this 1974 Charger.


It actually looked good in person but the 440 cid made it beautiful.

I still liked my 74’ Charger in Aztec Gold better but this wasn’t bad.

When I was in the service I knew this guy with a yellow TR 7. Well at least we called it yellow but everytime we did he would correct us saying it was Aztec Gold. He didn't like us calling it yellow.

Is the purported chip shortage a scam for manufacturers and dealers to rip-off unsuspecting consumers with higher new and used vehicle prices?

The chip shortage was announced over a year ago, yet production has has not ramped up since. What gives? According to the NY Times, dealerships are buying used vehicles at premium prices and selling them at or above new car prices.

I've heard a lot about supply chain disruptions and shortages. But I believe the problem is a deliberate attempt to keep inventories low, and as a consequence new vehicle prices high.

The sad part about this conundrum is that nobody knows when production will be back to normal.

It's pretty common knowledge that after the auto manufacturers cancelled their relatively simple chip orders, production was switched to more expensive chips used in PC's, etc due to so many people being at home and the related device demand.
Give up your place in line and you have to go to the back of the line.

If you are a consumer on the buy side you pay more and have less selection. If you are a consumer on the sell side and don’t need to buy, you’ve hit pay dirt.

Sure. The manufacturers make out by selling fewer cars at the same price to the dealers they were before … wait… no, that would be bad for them.

The OEM manufacturers have huge fixed costs. Volume is good for them.

I understand that the new Microsoft Windows 11 will require many to buy new computers. That can’t be good for the shortage.

Back in 1968 during introduction week, I was all set to buy an Olds Delta 88 two door hardtop in a bluish color with blue cloth bench seats and a 350 CID V8 engine (around $4200). They were going to get it cleaned up and ready to go the following night which was a Friday.

Mid morning on Friday I decided to see what kind of a deal they’d give me on what I thought was a much nicer but more expensive car (almost $4600. Which to me was borderline outrageous for a car back then) that I saw in their service bay on Thursday night. It was a mild yellow with black vinyl top with a console and black vinyl bucket seats. It also had the Olds rocket 88 V8 455 CID engine. I was never sorry I opted for that car. Very nice engine too.

Short answer:

When car manufacturers decide to place orders large enough that it’s worthwhile for the chip manufacturers to get their assembly lines going again and not before.

Business is too good right now for dealers selling used cars and manufacturers are letting the dealers have the bone right now but when the manufacturers decide it’s their turn to make some money, the chips will start flying.

I think that’s called big business.
