Costco PUG $3.10/gallon. Of course, I've only filled up twice since mid March...

But, road trip to Vermont this weekend. I'll be hunting free charging stations instead of deep steeps and monster bumps!

I broke $60 on a fill-up for the first time the other day I think. For you truck owners, this isn't news, but us smaller car owners don't spend that much at one pop at the pump.

Just heard a story about a customer who rented our EV Hyundai and took it to NYC. He got down to 11 miles range and called the Albany office to complain. They had explained the limitations and responsibilities when he rented so they told him he was on his own.

I assume he could find a charging station in NYC but he had to wait hours to get enough juice to make the return trip.

In all my travels in VT I can’t recall ever seeing a charging station but I’m sure there are some at malls or colleges.

Charging stations are actually pretty plentiful these days, but they aren't advertised as well as and don't have attention drawn to them as well as gas stations. My guess is it would not have been hard to find a fast charge station...

Some parts of rural Vermont it may not be easy. Heck, out there, finding a gas station isn’t always easy.

But that renter, sounds like a dope. At least clueless.

Enterprise must have gotten a sweet deal because renting short range EVs sounded like a dumb idea from the beginning.

Hence, the joy and no range anxiety of a PHEV!
Killington appears to have a few charging stations, whether free or not remains to be discovered. May ride the gondola to the top, hike down. Free concert at 3:30. But, surprise, much rain in forecast.
Or, LF wants to tour (read: shop) Manchester. I reminded her, other than unique artwork and such, whatever we find there, we can find anywhere... NH, no sales tax...

I'm pushing $60 for the cars, but I put in almost $8 on the bike and that's the first time I put in over $7, The bike is only a 3 gallon tank and I rarely put more that 2 1/3rd gallons.

There are websites and apps that will help you find charging stations. This site shows plenty of charging stations in Vermont.

I remember the first time a gas pump turned off early on me as I had exceeded the $75 limit. Back then, the automatic pre-authorization at the pump was for $75. I have no idea what it is now, maybe the same?

Heck, I'm so old, I clearly remember the first time a $10 bill wouldn't cover a fill up.

I just filled the car up with PUG at Costco - $3.19.9 a gallon. 5 months ago, I was paying $2.43.9 a gallon. That’s over a 30% increase in just 5 months at Costco. Prices at the major brand gas stations for PUG are averaging $3.80 a gallon.

I’ve noticed a huge increase in the price of food. 5 months ago, I was spending about $300 a month for groceries. Now I am spending close to $370 a month for those same groceries. The cost of living is beginning to skyrocket with no end in sight and the FED sees no major reason to raise interest rates to begin curbing this inflationary trend.

I just rolled over a small IRA CD at my bank at .15% per year. That’s crazy! Fifteen hundredths of one percent! From what I’ve read, the administration is stating that this inflation is expected to continue for quite a long time - 18-24 months until markets stabilize. Are we going to be reliving the late 1970’s again?

This has gotten me a little worried. 😩

Ally Bank (ally.com) is paying .55% on 12-month CD and .60% on 18-month CD. Plus a 0.05% bonus if one renews their CD rather than withdrawing the deposit. That's almost 4 times your local bank's rate.

I think the idea was to rent to people who would be driving locally. That this guy went off the rails speaks for itself. I thought 260 mile range was pretty average these days.

So it looks like our campground life is coming to an end. We tried it since 2019 and while we absolutely love being at the Jersey shore, the campground wasn’t for us.

So we decided to put our park model and everything for sale. We had absolutely no idea the response we would get. My wife had well over 100 inquires and requests for 25+ showings. We had people ready to send a deposit before even seeing it.

We only ended up having three people see it and without even asking got 10% over asking. We immediately canceled all showings as I’m not a greedy person.

So now to finalize the deal and clear out our personal stuff. Condo shopping in the Wildwoods has begun!

Just curious.....what didn't you like about the RV camping experience?
My younger brother goes and finds people to play pickleball or golf with.
Me, I need a real bed, a TV, a radio, electric blanket, know I am in a structured dwelling place, full fridge, etc.
Glad you sold it so quickly, it has been a huge year for RV sales.

Our unit was a park model and had every comfort of home. Full size appliances, etc.

We just want to be on the Island along with rental potential. The campground is also very much a party atmosphere which while fun can drag on. People are also very much in your business which isn’t our style.

Another BIG boost to the EV movement.

GM plans to Suck Lithium from the Salton Sea to beef up Lithium Battery production. The process will have a lower environmental impact than traditional lithium mining.
We all know that lithium is needed to produce EV batteries, and that there aren't too many places in the world to mine it. But GM now has a plan to extract it from the Salton Sea in California. Here's how this process is supposed to work.

GM just announced that it became the first investor in a project run by Controlled Thermal Resources. CTR will pump hot, salty water from deep below the Salton Sea and extract the lithium from it, along with clean thermo energy at the same time. Cleaner water goes back into the Salton Sea and the ground beneath it. It’s a win-win. You might even add another win in there when you consider the California Energy Commission’s estimate that the Salton Sea area could produce 600,000 tons of lithium per year, which is amazing since the entire world’s industry produced a mere 85,000 tons of lithium in all of 2019. Read full article at:

I used to live a few miles from the Salton Sea. They are continually extracting minerals from that “sea”, which is really a misnomer. It is not very wide and is only about 30 miles long - more of a lake than a sea. 🤪🤪

Some of you may remember that my son was working for Ridgetop Research. Well, a few weeks ago he was contacted by a recruiter from Korn Ferry. After several virtual interviews he called us yesterday and told us he was hired. He's leaving Ridgetop on excellent terms and is excited about the new gig. The only downside I can see is they may require him to relocate to NYC- but he already has a buddy who works there so they would probably share an apartment if that happened.

He would still like to eventually work in sports media, but it's hard to break in to that vocation. He has his mother's good looks(and his dad's bad disposition), he knows most every major sport inside and out, and he has absolutely no stage fright, so I think he'd be a perfect fit for a show like PTI or similar. I hope he gets the chance someday, but even if he doesn't, he's got a solid career path if he wants to stick with it.

Consultants huh, watch out when the Bobs arrive. My prior employer probably blew through an easy mid 8 figures every year on that stuff. I was never sure what they did exactly, but they did have to deal with a particularly loathsome director, so maybe it was just to keep a direct employee from going postal.

I think the easiest way to get into sports media stuff is to have played the sport you cover. I know anyway you won't be taken seriously in hockey if you weren't involved in the game at a fairly high level.

Good point. I really enjoy John McEnroe's play by play of tennis matches. His inside knowledge is invaluable in deciphering what is going on, and explaining strategies and plays etc.

It also amazes me that he could use such awful language on the court but doesn't slip up when covering a game.

Consultants huh, watch out when the Bobs arrive. My prior employer probably blew through an easy mid 8 figures every year on that stuff. I was never sure what they did exactly, but they did have to deal with a particularly loathsome director, so maybe it was just to keep a direct employee from going postal.

Pretty much any announce booth has 2 or 3 people. Yes, there's always someone who was involved in that sport at a high level (color commentator) but there is also a play-by-play announcer. Doc Emerick, Mike Tirico, Al Michaels... never were involved in sports. Broadcast journalism was their path into it.

@tjc78 Very nice RV.....and I am sure RV people would love the lifestyle etc.. That is one of the nicest ones I have seen, and it is nicer than I imagined....not for everyone though I guess.

Thank you! We did a lot to the site; 12x30 deck, matching shed, and more. Park models are basically modular homes. Much different than a travel trailer. No holding tanks, water pumps, real toilets, etc. They are intended to be permanent installations.

Unless it's ESPN in which case the less you know, apparently the better, as long as you can spout controversial opinions.

Yeah, there are those talents, but also in my experience more who are also kind of jack of all trades and don't bring a ton of insight into the game, and aren't going for the commentary route that roadburner mentioned. Some could easily be a good disc jockey or auctioneer, too. I also think some sports are harder to call than others unless one has extensive experience or observation. You have to be something special to break into these ranks, and/or know someone.
