I may disagree with @bwia on some of the suggestions he made but he does raise a good point. Yesterday I was on the ring road here where it is 4 lanes each way and traffic was moderate with most of it doing around 55mph. In my side view mirror I see something from the corner of my eye that got my attention. It was an Audi of some sort coming up on the group of cars I was in at a very high rate of speed, probably 90+, zigzagging from lane to lane.He blew past me on the left, immediately cut to the right to get in front of me, passed a vehicle on the right, veered left (looking a bit unstable) to pass another right lane car, then jumped into the right exit lane and got hard on the brakes. Now the driver was obviously a first-class idiot, but the car enabled that behavior very easily. And it wasn't even a 3-second 0-60 job like some of the hot Teslas, Hellcats, etc. That kind of extreme speed is just asking for trouble, especially when you mix a vehicle like that into normal-speed traffic in the hands of a young idiot.

I don't know what the solution is but let's not kid ourselves that it isn't a problem.

Idiocy knows no bounds. Today were we’re pulling out of our cleaning lot and the driver cut it a little close with a car coming up the road. Not tire screeching close but enough that the car MIGHT have had to apply his brakes.

So we get out on the main road and a Porsche Cayenne passes us at high speed, then cuts in front of us and brake checks our van HARD. He then sped off and took a quick right on red so he wasn’t stuck at the light with us. To our surprise the Cayenne had MD plates!

Not what’s the world coming to when doctors are out there actively trying to cause accidents? Maybe horses would be a better idea.

speaking of crazy drivers. We noticed something on our trip the other day. A large majority of the crazy people zipping through traffic were driving Acuras. I thought that very odd. And the majority of those were white (car, not the driver). Weird coincidence?

I see a lot of Honda drivers being aggressive on the road around here. Could there be a connection?

Clapped-out Hondas are the gateway drug to bad driving in expensive high-HP cars later in life I think.

Well, finally got my cardiac, oncology, hematology and medical clearances for my surgery Wednesday morning. Also had to run over to the hospital to get a Covid test completed which they require prior to admission.

They told me to enter the hospital through the outpatient building Wednesday morning. They put me in a room where I am prepped for surgery and meet the anesthesiologist. I then go up to the OR in the main hospital. After I get out of recovery, they put me in a room in the hospital where I will stay for 2-3 days.

Getting a little anxious but this will be a breeze compared to the last surgery I had 5 years ago when they resected my liver to remove the malignant tumors. This will be my last update - will check in when I can after the procedure. 🤪😜🤓

Good luck with your procedure. Hope it makes a difference.

I surprised they still do surgery in a hospital near you. Up here they are so paranoid about covid that my friend who is getting his hip replaced in December has to do it at an outpatient clinic with no overnight stay.
We really monitor the slope of new covid cases here. Hospital is back up to full OR capacity.

Moving to new hospital facility on 12/5/2021. Someone has the brilliant idea to move all patients between 3 and 7 am. That will be a real sh@t show, I predict. :)

I worked at an eye center and did 22 cataract cases then got pulled to hospital to help with 4 endoscopy cases. Exhausting day but home by 545 pm.

I worked with the eye surgeon who went to IU then Harvard medical school. A patient was a vice provost at IU and asked him where he went to medical school and he replied "out east" and then "Boston" when pressed. Interesting and humble guy. He always asks how my family is every single time I work with him.

Well, for many, perception is reality so taking away someone’s “hey look, I’m doing 150!” bragging rights is the equivalent of reducing the car’s ability to achieve that speed. That was the idea behind not including the numbers on the speedometer.

I’m not saying I agree with that line of thought but that was a rationale.

Interesting. I could see that working in some cases.

Ever read the short story "The Marching Morons"? It's the same premise as "Idiocracy". In that story they talked about how people were demanding faster cars and higher speed limits. To give the people what they wanted they simply shorten the mile.

I don’t know how well it worked overall. There was a slight decrease in deaths during the 80s but was that due to lower numbers on the speedometer or because 80s cars were just so crappy and couldn’t go fast? Who knows.

My office has similar booths. We have bench seating unless you’re an exec, so there isn’t much privacy or sound isolation when at your desk. Those booths are pretty well sound insulated so perfect for short calls when it’s just you and you don’t need the accoutrements of a conference room.

And, I loved working and I loved our business, but I don't want to do that any more.

Leaks… we were talking about them in one of the threads.

I’m stunned at the amount of cars that must leak pretty badly. I just came back from a brand new Wawa (few weeks open at most) and the amount of oil stains in the new parking spots was significant.

Why do I notice these things? One will never know.

    Be thankful for small victories.

When the sun came up this morning and I could see, I started searching all my cars. Luckily, I found the card and license in the cup holder of the cargo van where I had tossed my wallet a few days before. They must have fallen out without me noticing.
    .

That truly is a great good news story which we have all probably experienced....instant relief when you find something you would have had a real hassle trying to replace.

Saw a video this morning that people are getting their cars repossessed and then because of the market getting a check back because they are worth more than what was owed.

Now … if that is true why on earth wouldn’t the person sell it and avoid the repo?

I am going along a 2 lane road, 50 mph limit. A guy in a Dodge Charger comes out of a side road....I had to slow down to make room for this maneuver,
He is impatient and rides on the bumper of the car in front of him...even though that car can't go any faster.
He attempts to pass the car in front by going into the left turn lane....but realizes that lane ends soon and there are cars coming toward him.
Coming up is a long left turn lane that goes into a new survey. The car ahead of the gray Charger goes into the left turn lane and the Charger races ahead of him and then moves in front of him in order to turn into the new survey,
Sometimes I think there are people who think they are capable, but in reality they don't have a clue!

Speaking of fast cars and speeding. Yesterday, I was browsing a few YouTube videos from Hong Kong.

Hong Kong island is a little over 400 square miles in size, hilly and mountainous with narrow congested roads. On top of that car owners spend more $400 a month on garaging fees as there is little or no on-street parking. And worst, they drive on the left side of the road. So, to deal with the boredom of living in such a confined space car enthusiasts race on weekends on designated roads and raceways to their hearts content. Fun for all even the police who watch in envy as they watch these spoiled billionaire brats burn rubber in their million dollar sports cars. Maybe some can post a high quality video. B)

The lack of space in Hong Kong means many of their roads are tight and have design compromises, leading to crashes. Thre are numerous videos of those on YT not necessarily involving racing, just aggressive driving. It seems taxis and small white hatches/microvans are most prevalent.

On a slightly different note. The venerable giant, General Electric is going to break-up into three different publicly traded companies.

The Boston-based company said the three businesses would focus on Energy, Healthcare and Aviation.

Who killed GE? I don't know but I remember in the late 1980s, when GE was run by Jack Welsh, it was the most admired company in America. His management style was copied and emulated at all levels of business, government and industry. I must say I admired the man and worshipped him, warts and all, until his death.

If you own that stock be careful. Usually when a company like that breaks up they saddle one of the entities with all the debt so the others can survive. GE is awash in debt and pension obligations. Make sure you don’t get stuck with a boat anchor.

I had some shares of Lucent Technologies years ago and they did a number of spin offs. All the divisions went down the drain and some I had to pay more than the stock was worth just to sell it.
