For you people who think my job is boring this was one of the cars returned to the airport today.

The story we got was that the renter was at a party that got out of hand.

We also had a car that was rented at another location, never returned, was reported stolen and was then dumped days later at the airport. The culprit tried to flee but was detained to at least pay for the additional use.

My favorite was the Audi Q3 that came back covered in mud with the bumper and fender smashed. The renter inquired if it was too late to purchase collision insurance.

Out of hand? Is that a bullet hole in the door? May want to check the trunk for a dead body.

Yeah, that’s a bullet hole. I had to drive that to the repair facility and had to sit carefully since the window was also blown out and spread over the seats. No bodies that I know of.

my taxes are so simple that it would take more effort to put everything together and get to an accountant so they could spend the 10 minutes imputting everying and hitting submit. No fancy investments like rental properties. No deductions at all. A couple of W2s, a few 1099divs and that is about it.

JM, not even much room for "creative accounting" unless I wanted to claim something like the EV tax credit (do they even get a form filed by the dealer for that?)

Where there is a will there is a way.

You’d shouldn’t be surprised to learn that the IRS thinks I have an EV. You should be able to claim two of them if you have a two car garage, right?

Why not three or four as you have a driveway?

What is with this place? I come here for a diversion and it's all shop talk.
You’re right; thanks for the tip.

I need to do the same and hire someone to tighten up the shrubs and flower beds. My wife and SIL have been doing the yard work, mowing, trimming since I broke my leg. I believe I can do much of it now but am told NO!

We trim the bushes ourselves that’s pretty easy none are very big. I just hate cutting all the edges and moving the mulch. Way too much hard labor!

How does the rental company charge for bullet holes and broken glass if the folks didn't buy the full coverage comprehensive from the rental company?

I don't know if my personal insurance covers bullet holes on cars I rent. They cover everything
just like my own two cars, I think? Comprehensive insurance like glass?

My car insurance covers rental cars, but then so does American Express. And I would much rather turn in a claim to Amex than to an insurance company. I really doubt Amex would cancel me or raise my rates.

I rather enjoy doing the yard work myself. Fresh air, sunshine, good exercise.

Mind you, there are limits. When I was working on the fence recently, I paid someone to dig up the old posts and concrete.

I am just happy that I can still get around and do most of this work myself. My health is not great, and I certainly can't do everything that I used to do, but I can still do a lot. And I try to remember that there are those much worse off. Be happy with what you have, not unhappy with what you've lost.

And speaking of health, I think I will go over to Walgreen's this afternoon and get the second Covid booster. No downside, no cost (to me), and will make me feel a little better about my protection level. Win-Win.

Good question. If you bought the insurance I assume it would cover “damage” from any source. You credit card company might have damage coverage too. Then there’s your personal car insurance.

Just finished the first mow of the seasons. Some of the grass was already quite long. But odd mowing with feel as temp below freezing! But looks good trimmed with fresh mulch. Ready to list! Well, the outside is.

Mower was good since I remembered to run it dry last year. Let it sit in the sun while I did some raking, filled it with fresh gas, gave 2 have pulls to prime, then one full yank and it fired up like I just used it yesterday. Not even a puff of smoke.

Now just need to pull the blade off and take it for the annual sharpening. And see if my weedwhacker wants to work this year or not.

Ugh - that reminds me that I should take my mower blade in for sharpening. I've used it for 4 summers now, and it could probably use it.

Most of the grass here is still dormant - may be another month before it's green and ready to mow.

We got a few emergency broadcast warnings on our phones here today concerning these "squalls." In my area, at least, we got nowhere near zero visibility. It got windy, cloudy, and some very frozen precipitation swirling around. The school buses didn't seem to have any issues since my kid arrived exactly on time during the weather event. One of these days, a real emergency is going to happen but most people will ignore the warning because the broadcast system on our phones is WAY overused.

The snow squall warnings are supposed to be as localized as a tornado warning, but there can be some spillover if you are getting signal off a tower that also pings into the warning area. Clearly they were warranted for at least a portion of the area they were issued for.

I don’t know if y’all have “tornado” sirens out that way like in the Midwest or South, but the WEA definitely has more precision than sirens, which are usually activated for an entire county if any part of the county is in a tornado warning. (Varies based on Local EM decision, but that’s the norm.)

It’s also worth noting that the only weather alerts that trigger WEA are tornado warnings, snow squall warnings, and only flash flood warnings tagged for considerable or catastrophic impacts.

had to break out the toolbox today to get a socket out to get the blade off the mower. I must have been super strengthed when I put this one one because that sucker was torqued tight. Had to go up to the bigger socket wrench, and was about to look for a breaker bar before I finally got it broken loose. might need antisieze when that goes back on. or maybe don't crank it down so hard!

It's designed so that the rotation of the blade tightens the bolt. Jobs like that, removing a lawn mower blade, are when it's nice to have an impact wrench. No muss, no fuss, no bother.

My daughter ordered her Subaru Outback yesterday. 36 grand. Must get that from her mom. Unfortunately the dealership said she couldn't lock in on the special 2.9% financing that Subaru is currently offering.
Looking at a 2 month wait till the car comes in. Doubtful it will be lower then.

Informed daughter of the extended warranty talk she'll get, when she goes into the finance office in 2 months, to pick up her Outback. In looking online it doesn't look that Subaru's extended warranty is anything close to what I got from Honda. Doesn't seem worth getting at all.

I assume that car insurance would cover you if your car was damaged by a stray gunshot/ bullet under comprehensive.

You are probably on your own if you are involved in a shoot out.

What if you are the getaway driver in a bank robbery?

Getting ready to head out. But thinking over 3 grand for 7 years, 100,000 miles. Subaru has the 3/36k mile bumper to bumper, 5/60k mile on power train. So didn't extend that much over the manufacturers warranty considering the money. In comparison, my 2020 Honda Accords extended warranty was 9 years, 150,000 miles. $1,600

    Hey Imidazol97,
You might want to make sure your Malibu is well protected.

What next, will they be stealing the teeth out of your head while you sleep?
With this group more like stealing your teeth from the glass on the night stand while you sleep.
Oh, so that’s what happened to them. :#

When my car didn’t show up on time I told the dealer to forget it. Now I know what happened. I thought the dealer was stone-walling me.

My State Farm covers me, but I don't know if it covers bullet holes.
Check your policy again. I think you’re covered if the bullet hole is in you. o:)

Getting my 2nd Covid booster shot tomorrow morning per my doctor. He urged me to get it due to my immunosuppressed physical issues. Hope it goes as smoothly as the first 3 shots.
