Was reviewing the maintenance records for the MINI, and noticed it was time to get the tires rotated.
Set up an appointment for 2PM today, got there about quarter of, and was out the door at 5 minutes to 2.
Had to manually reset the TPMS monitor and drive the car for a few minutes to clear the warning light, but all is good.

That’s lightening fast. I couldn’t come close to that time but I make sure my lug nuts are properly tightened.

I know you had a bad experience once.
The car was in the first stall next to the waiting room, so I watched it all - even the part where the senior tech used the torque wrench to confirm the lug nuts were at the right tightness.
I have seen similar things at a Discount Tire shop. All 4 corners off the ground, two techs, one on each side of the car, and it's amazing how quickly they get the job done. And done right, from my experience.

I saw two techs on the drivers side; I was expecting them to switch over to the far side, but they lowered the car back down, which led me to believe there were two on the other side.
Not NASCAR quick (or F1 quick, for that matter), but I was impressed.

How do you manually reset the TPMS? Don’t you need some little radio gizmo?
The Mazda never needed a reset; even when I bought a new set of tires/wheels. The BMW and MINI have a TPMS reset page in the "Settings" menu- it takes all of about 30 seconds.

My 74’ Charger had golden orange shag carpeting with a white and black Aztec interior. At the time I thought it was spectacular.

I miss the thicker carpeting that was popular for a time. Now most carpet is paper thin and without any plushness. I get tickled when I see a fastened seatbelt that someone sits on to avoid having to wear it or be subject to the seat belt buzzer or ignition lock out.
The ‘74 cars had a seatbelt interlock that you could override by pressing a button in the engine bay. Some people defeated them by buckling the belt behind them. Smart people reached under the seat and unplugged the sensor.
If we’re going to rate intelligence here I’d say the smartest people WORE their seat belt.

@oldfarmer50 - for the MINI, there is an option within the infotainment system to reset the TPMS. Turns out you have to do that while standing still, so I pulled over on the drive home and did it. Got home, then drove to the mailbox to collect the mail, and the warning light turned off during the drive there and back.

I never got the mindset of not wearing a seatbelt. Those films in driver’s ED with the mangled bodies stuck halfway through the windshield convinced me. At 16 I was the only one who would do it. I took a lot of ribbing from the cool kids but I didn’t care what they thought any more than I thought of overbearing government nannies.

Here in Illinois if I get into a car that basically has a steel cage all around me with crumple zones that protect the passengers and air bags that will inflate at the instance of a collision and other things all to protect me but if I don't wear a seat belt I will get a ticket. Yet I can get on a motorcycle exposed to everything, nothing on the motorcycle to protect me and it's perfectly legal to wear no protection, basically I can ride wearing nothing more than swim trunks. Something wrong there.

On that note, I can use a basic license to drive a 42 foot leviathan motorhome, dangerous handling overcompensator lifted truck, or 200+ mph supercar, but if I want to putt around on a 35 mph scooter, I need an endorsement.

Me ca. 1979 - we had a period house with both green shag carpeting (my mom has mentioned there was a rake) and loud patterned carpeting also used for baseboard trim. Stylin':
After that, we lived in another newer house that I swear had orange countertops and harvest gold appliances.
I also had a shirt in a pattern similar to that Charger upholstery.
Those light fixtures with the framing around the bulbs are huge with flippers here - one of the "signs" along with grey LVP, subway tile, sliding track closet/bathroom doors, 50 shades of grey paint, a room with shiplap walls, etc.
I’m supposed to relax at the shore… but wife wanted a new chandelier to replace the crappy one here. So, ran to Lowes and grabbed one. Electrical box was pretty off center, so needed a little swag to place it in the middle of the table. No silver hook in stock, so I’ll have to swap it out.
That’s cheating, you should have moved the box.
FWIW, that light looks a little like the light we installed in flip #3 above where the kitchen table will be.

I personally don’t like those fixtures but the feedback we got from 4 of the prospective buyers of flip #3, through different realtors, was they liked the light fixtures we installed.
As for the gray paint, we have used the same gray paint in all 3 of our flips so far and plan to use it in flip #4 too because we have gotten countless comments from buyers and neighbors about how much they like it. No sense in arguing with success.

When the remnants of a hurricane hit the Burgh area in the mid 70’s I got water run off from my neighbors rear down spout that was directed towards the grass area between our houses. The water poured in though a basement window well and ruined the original carpet we had in the game room. We replaced it with a lime green shag carpet. It was pretty nice in it’s day but just the thought of that stuff today makes me wonder what were we thinking?

I’ve told this story before maybe even a couple times:
I put seat belts in my ‘56 Chevy in ‘61 after I returned from a flight when I was a member of a flight crew while in the Navy and saw first hand the value of them.
We were carrying passengers and cargo in an R4Y. I told all the passengers to buckle their seat belts because we were going to be landing in a fairly stiff cross wind. This one wise guy sailor, seated in the front row, buckled up then unbuckled his belt and I could see it draped over his arm rest when I looked down the aisle from my seat towards the back of the plane. We were about a 1/4 mile from touch down and I debated with myself if I should leave the safety of my seat to tell him again or just remain in my seat. I decided to scamper down the aisle to tell him again. I told him again and he bucked up again but, in defiance, by the time I got back to my seat I heard him unbuckle again and I could see the belt draped over his arm rest again. Nope, I ain’t getting out of my seat now because we are only a few seconds from touch down. Guess what? This dope was propelled out of his seat into the baggage rack in front of him and he broke his right collar bone.
As I was exiting the plane to get to the terminal to see what cargo we were going to be picking up for the next leg of our flight I remember saying to him, “if we weren’t so late landing because we had to circle a few times due to the weather, I’d write you up for not obeying an order (I had the authority to do that since i was the First Loader of the flight crew) so consider yourself lucky”. Just then his Chief Petty Officer who was in the row behind him said to me, “don’t worry, I’m going to write him up you can could on that”.
When we returned to our base the next day, the first thing I did after the plane was unloaded was to go to the aviation equipment group and asked a friend for a couple pairs of worn out seat belts and some tie down straps so I could make seat belts for my car. He wanted to know why so I told him the story. He told me to get the measurements for my car and he’d sew them up for me. A couple days later I had 2 pairs of custom made seat belts for my car and I’ve never driven a mile without them ever since.

The smartest people wore their seatbelt regardless but resented big brother trying control them.
The seat belt is required because as a licensed driver you should know, and others expect you to know some basic competent driving skills while you are driving your vehicle so that you don't negligently crash into them.
If you are bumped out of your seat due to a minor impact you won't be able to control your 4,000 pound missile properly, and the secondary impact could be more severe than the primary. All licensed drivers EXPECT you to wear your seat belt, and it's the LAW for safety's sake. It has nothing to do with overbearing Gov't nannies.

I miss the thicker carpeting that was popular for a time. Now most carpet is paper thin and without any plushness. I get tickled when I see a fastened seatbelt that someone sits on to avoid having to wear it or be subject to the seat belt buzzer or ignition lock out.

More fun than driving a car, more engaging too.
The motorcycle in the Movie "Dumb & Dumber" didn't look that fun to drive.

Black Nissan Altima – now where have I heard a story about a black Nissan Altima? Somewhere, someone …
Two men have been charged with capital murder in the shooting death Thursday night of an off-duty Harris County Sheriff's deputy in a north Harris County parking lot, according to court documents.
Joshua Stewart, 23, and Fredarius Clark, 19, are accused of killing Darren Almendarez outside a Joe V's grocery store, striking him multiple times. The deputy returned fire and struck both men.
The men were allegedly under the deputy's truck, attempting to steal his catalytic converter in the parking lot when the off-duty deputy approached their black Nissan Altima.
This whole business of stealing catalytic converters is getting out of hand.

Just finished 2 weeks of therapy for my BPPV vertigo and hit a snag yesterday. Seems it's a bit worse than first thought and whatever exercise he did yesterday made me more dizzy & nauseous so he had me go home & just relax for a few days. The physical therapist is very positive that he can cure me of this but might take a little longer than first thought. Has to do with the crystals in one's ears but is curable. I have complete trust in him and know yesterday was just a temporary set back. Luckily I have the walker all set up for when the dizziness gets really bad as I don't want to fall again...it really hurt for almost a week afterwards! And from what I've read, more folks suffer from vertigo than I ever thought. Honestly, I've had enough of it already!

I had asked about that a little while ago. My wife occasionally has vertigo so I was hoping you were recovering (if that's what you do). She had the tests where it makes you nauseated, etc. and didn't do anything after that.

@snakeweasel - you ever recommend to any of your clients that they buy a car to help with their tax situation?
Just got back from our CPA, who did just that. Preferably a PHEV or full EV, for the tax credits, and run the costs through the business.
Please don’t bring up taxes. We got absolutely slaughtered this year! First time ever!
One tax thing that really aggravates me (and I’m sure Q and Stick) is that they cap your property tax deduction at 10K. We pay 14K for one and 6K for the other.

You are mistaken, it's a T26E4 otherwise called a Super Pershing. It's the most powerful U.S. tank of WWII but came into service so late that it only 2 made it to Europe before the war ended and only one of them actually saw action. Only 26 were built and that one pictured is the only surviving one.

Nope, haven't done that since most of my clients wouldn't be able to take the full tax credit and couldn't be able to run it through a business.
Thanks!
Not to mention that while it might save you money in taxes the overall cash flow might be in the negative. In other words you might end up in a situation where you save X dollars in taxes but you're spending X+Y dollars to do it.
