I still don't get the concept....a neighbors chimney falls on your home and his insurance doesn't pay for it. It is an act of God or something? I thought the neighbor bought a policy to protect him from having to pay when something goes wrong....on his property - like for example when a piece of his house falls off and destroys someone else's air conditioner unit.

It's not the fact that the neighbors chimney falls but what was the cause of the fall. If due to poor upkeep by the owner then the owner would be liable because it was his/hers actions (or lack thereof) that caused the damage. If it was a storm that blew off a perfectly good chimney then the owner was not responsible because they had no control of it.
But it wasn't a perfectly good chimney. It was rotted.

But this was a storm that blew over a chimney that was in disrepair due to rotten wood behind the brick veneer (and poorly built) unbeknownst to the homeowner.

Well, vinyl siding veener...not brick. So don't think homeowner would have known unless they took the chimney apart.

    Don't think that'll buff out.

Thankfully the neighbor had someone haul away the fallen chimney today.

Not even a chimney. Just a box out to cover the flue of a gas fireplace. It could have been a piece of roof or siding that took out your A/C, just as easily.

80 mph winds that night, right?

Weather center concluded, upon investigation, that it was a F1 tornado. Maybe 90+ mph

So glad we purchased a new home with a 1-year warranty. So, nothing will go wrong until, of course, month 13 of ownership...

So today my wife lets our dog out and he disappeared. We called for him and walked around the general area. No dog. I posted his picture on my FB page as well as some local pages. Next, I drove around some of the surrounding streets but no joy. About 2:00 I was preparing to search the woods, but I wasn’t optimistic based on the area I had to cover. I checked FB again and one of my friends had seen the dog’s picture on another page. He had been found about a half mile away running around in the parking lot of a supermarket. To get there he had to cross a busy four lane. Fortunately, some Good Samaritans had corralled him- even bought him some dog treats.
As luck would have it; I've posted pictures and stories about this dog’s hijinks for years; he was the Official Campaign Mascot in my last race(it annoyed my opponent to no end- she whined that I wasn’t taking the election seriously). So anyway, his notoriety was definitely a plus.

When we were looking to buy a home, roughly 9 years ago, all brick was at the top of the list for what we wanted. Some houses in subdivision are all brick, some just have the brick in the front, like our house. To get the interior layout we wanted...no all brick.

We were upstairs when that blast of wind/tornado hit. That night had me thinking about that all brick house. They're safer.... 3 little pigs and all. Luckily I was in the dark (no pun....electricity had gone out) and didn't have a chance to freak out about the approaching F1 tornado. It formed literally across the street to our subdivision. And yes, lucky the house held together (except for the outside a/c unit) and no one got hurt.

Oh, that's 2 tornadoes thru out subdivision in 8 years. Time to move? LOL

That's good to know. But, York was bought out by Johnson Controls awhile back. Some reviews say they're better, some say they're worse. But, that's what they say about every brand, even Trane Most everyone agrees that getting a good installation is key for short and long term reliability.

He had only run off once before- several years ago when we weren't at home and a storm blew through. We were worried he might have been involved in a fight, or caught in a trap. I was in no mood to do anything. Of course now he's sleeping soundly on his bed in the family room, totally oblivious to all of the anxiety he caused...

"Brick" homes are just brick veneer. (I have one). It's still just a 2X4 or 2X6 wall of yellow pine and OSB behind a layer of brick. They aren't any safer.

I'm glad everything worked out. You are getting a new A/C unit to replace a 22 yr old unit for just $2000!!

We have a gas fireplace (not wood burning). It was a custom build. The fireplace is direct vent, and has a double walled flue. Originally, the design was to place it at the rear of the house, and build a vinyl sided box for the chimney. I didn't want that, but they said $5K to build a brick chimney, instead (for a flue pipe).

So, our fireplace was moved to an inside wall, and the vent pipe goes through the roof. :)

Appears that my 4K 55" Samsung LED is kaput. Big vertical shadow covering about 20% of the screen. Did soft re-boots, hard re-boots, swapped out HDMI cable, etc. Internet says it would cost more to fix than replace.

It's only 3.5 yrs old. Paid about $800. I can replace it with a fairly identical unit from LG or Samsung for $400-$600. Or, get an LG OLED for $1100. (actual improved picture/contrast). Decisions, decisions..

Check out the TCL 6-series. I have one, fabulous TV. Or the 4-series, much cheaper and likely comparable to the ones you mentioned in that lower range.

I had a 4 series, has a similar screen problem to what you experienced. Fortunately I bought an extended warranty at time of purchase that Amazon offered for peanuts, and it reimbursed the entire cost. Replaced the dud with the 6-series and it is very nice.

On the a/c front, we had the choice of getting a Trane unit or a York. At the time, both were 17 SEER rated and the company told me either would be a great choice. The York unit had the larger rebates at the time, so we went with the York. Works so well that when first installed, the wife asked the guy if he could make it blow warmer air as it was too cold for her. He just looked at me with a facial expression I'll never forget. After a few seconds to control himself, he just told her to put it up a degree or two warmer and you'll be all set. We keep it at 79 degrees in the house most of the time and it's just fine. Our bills went down that first month and are still pretty reasonable. Great unit really.
Your mom's CR-V looks pretty good for it's age...besides some seat stains, looks pristine. With just under 74K on the clock, she's still got a few good years left. Drove a new one at work recently, my first time, and really liked them.

The Golf seems to be in pretty good shape according to the mechanic. Was surprised the brakes didn't need any work but that seems to be the case. Beside it needing a good detail, looks to me like it's staying for a bit longer. As much as I'd like to get a new Corolla Cross, just not ready to even test drive one to be honest. Driving only about 3K/year still, really makes no sense to do anything. That new Honda HR-V due out next year looks to be something I'd probably like so at this point, have put any plans to get anything new on the shelf. Why buy when I'm not absolutely sure what I want. And maybe best to wait a bit & check out an EV like the new Chevy Bolt or even a Nissan Leaf. A friend owns the latter and really loves it. So maybe it's best to hold off & eventually go with an EV.
But as for right now, just detail the Golf and be done with it.

Got our Sony 55" t v a couple months back and it's beyond words honestly. Haven't touched any setting as the picture looks so lifelike, really blew us all away! Was going to get a 50" set but the Best Buy guy brought us over to this set and said for the extra money, was totally worth it. My kid agreed and just told me to go for it, and so glad we did.
Only issue was that it wouldn't fit on our old t v table, the legs were to far apart. Kid went over to Best Buy and brought home a new table that had the option of mounting it about 2 feet above the table. Had someone come to mount it that way and is just perfect. Were going to attach it to the wall but by doing it this way, didn't have to put any holes in the wall and now every seat in the family room can see the screen from any angle. Perfect decision all the way around.
Check out the Sony products before you purchase. Wanted another Samsung or an LG but glad we went with the Sony unit!!!

I'd literally refuse to buy a car with the blinking CHMSL, and I wouldn't take delivery if they snuck it in. Amazing that the dealer had the chutzpah.

re: real estate - growth rates are going to fade fast with rising rates, we are at the end of it IMO. There won't be a significant crash due to many factors, but eventually cash buyers anyway may be in a better position, those financing not so much.

Been out for a while. Enjoying traveling. Too many places to list. But, I’ve been north to Alaska, South to the Caribbean/Bermuda, West to Sonoma, East to Portland.

In short, been out and about since that darned COVID thing seems to be under control.

Stopped by to say “hi”. Hope everyone’s well.

TJC….loving the Easter Pies. My sister will be serving those later on today for Easter Celebration.

Jipster….geez-Louise. That’s quite a bit of damage. Hope everything gets worked out with minimal hassle for you and your family.

Still have the TLX…about 13K miles. Had to do it’s “A1” service (oil change, tire rotation, inspections) a few months ago. Aside from that, it’s been exemplary. Averaging about 23 MPG in mixed driving (mostly city). I’m good with that.

@kyfdx …put in bids on two homes down by you (Covington)….giving asking price, cash deal, inspection required. Was out bid on both. Still refuse to get into a bidding war. One came back to me when the buyer’s financing fell through. To spite myself I came back with an offer lower than my original offer. That was not received well.

Son is thinking of selling his GTI. We went out yesterday to look at Accord 2.0 Sports. The one dealership we visited had about 7-8 1.5 cars. Sales guy explained that all their cars come with a “flashing brake light” installed at an up charge of $599. Son said it was not interested in that. Sales says they are installed on all Hondas. Son asked to see where that showed up on the MSRP. Finally, sales said it’s a dealer installed option. Still, the 1.5l tis not what he wants. Sales guy comes back with a list of 2.0s headed to the dealership in the next 2 weeks (maybe a dozen or so). Says for $500 deposit he’d hold one for my son. Son states he might as that would allow him to get a car without the $600 flashing brake lite. Sales guy went back to they all come that way.

We left without even giving our name to him….just stood up and walked out. Are we really back to playing these games, still?

We also drove a Bolt. Dang….that’s an impressive car from Chevrolet. It had all the goodies (with the exception of AWD), seemed built well and tight as a drum. Instant torque was quite cool. Plus, they’re installing the “fast chargers” for free on them. Road well. Was surprised how comfortable it was for such a small car.

Wanted to drop by to see how my Edmund’s friends are doing (although, seems more like I wanted to drone on and on about what I’ve been doing). LOL!

Amazing how pets suddenly decide to go off on an adventure. Probably smelled something interesting and took off to investigate.

We have a cat that likes to get out at night and refuses to come home until he’s good and ready. Meanwhile my wife is fretting over which variety of animal is eating him.
Trixie has a chip installed in her....that may help if she is actually caught. I think the chip finding company said 80% of dogs get away sometime in the first 5 years.

Once I took Trixie out in Florida and I didn't have the leash secured. She got free and ran away at lightening speed, I thought we would never see her again. btw...we are on a golf course that has big ponds...that have...you guessed it alligators!

Fortunately MrsD100 heard me calling for Trixie, and she yelled Trixie....I have a treat....and Trix came running around the corner and ran right into the house. I was surprised, I thought we'd be searching for days for her.

Fortunately, dogs are extremely motivated by food, even more than humans.

Nice to have you back....I enjoyed your comments and experiences with different cars and dealerships. Not used to too much car talk, mostly a/cs, dishwashers and TVs lately.

I'm glad to hear your dog made it home safely. Always scary when they run off like that.

There is a Cars & Coffee event at the Georgetown,KY location of Country Boy Brewing next Saturday 4-23-22 from 10am to 2pm. I have heard of these events on this forum for years but have never been to one.
The weather is supposed to be in upper 70's by then.

Glad your pup got home safe.

+1 that must have been scary.

Good to hear he came back. You should have a good talking with him. Maybe even mentioned that you’re thinking of sending him to a correctional facility. Since he knows who you are that otta straighten him out.

I saw a nice MB behind me today with what appeared to be European Union plates. What do you think, someone who is in the country for business and loves his car that much that he’d pay to ship it over?

How did they look....something like one of these:

Maybe he couldn't get an MB here so he went to Germany to pick it up.
