I knew a guy in northeast Ky that bought some of the highest elevation hills and leased them for cell phone towers for $2500 a month 25-30 years ago.

I own two acres up in East Texas, undeveloped, but inside the city limits. I would be happy to lease the entire 2 acres for $600 a month. Heck, $300 a month and it's your's.

But that's East Texas, not New York state.

they have some of those phony tree towers in NJ along the garden state parkway (in the stretch through the pine barrens forest, so a lot of trees already). They actually match pretty well. if you aren't looking closely would not even notice what it is.

    No thanks.

Geez, man, you need to negotiate! Free unlimited 5g for every year of the lease, along with the latest and biggest Apple iPhone every year (which you would use as a wi-fi hotspot for your whole house), and $2000/mo on a 20-year lease, escalating $100/mo every year should be your counter.

Everybody is familiar with the traffic signals that exist on many highway on-ramps? Designed to space merging traffic out and not cause backups.

Well, here in Denver they've decided to take that concept and add it to a highway interchange. A couple of miles from where I live is the interchange between I-25, E-470 and C-470. Like most major highway interchanges, there is a 4 level stack to manage traffic between north and south bound I-25, and east and west 470.

What the brilliant engineers at CDOT have decided to do is add traffic control signals to the ramp from 470 to north bound I-25 (two sets of signals, one for each direction of 470).

If I decide to use westbound 470 to go north on I-25, I could be doing 75 MPH and then have to come to a complete stop on the interchange ramp, wait for it to turn green, then accelerate back up to cruising speed.

I'm not sure that it has any material effect on the traffic on I-25, to be honest. And, it only seems to be used during the morning rush hour.

Reminds me of my childhood in Southern California, where there were stoplights on US 101 through Santa Barbara - the only ones on that route in CA. Finally got replaced in the late 80's or early 90's, IIRC.

There was a bit of severe weather in my area tonight. I drove the Wrangler out the drive and I thought I had dodged a bullet but no, a fallen cedar is partially blocking the bridge- so I'll clear that before work. Not really complaining, some areas less than 5-6 miles away were hammered- and I have new chains on both saws so I should be done in less than an hour.

IIRC you said that they were looking at the back edge of your property. I presume that is the highest point? If so then what if they go to your neighbor and do a deal with him just on the other side of the property line? You view is still gone. Why not benefit yourself?

We have those here and when active I usually get behind some slow poke who enters the highway at 30 MPH and I catch up to him on the entrance ramp even if I wait for the green light.

Are we talking "Ramp Meters"? They are being used in busy spots all over, we have them on the very busy QEW - Queen Elizabeth Way which goes from Niagara Falls to Toronto. People didn't like them when they installed them 10 or 15 years ago...but now they are accepted, and they probably do improve traffic flow. Usually the light goes green and one car is allowed to enter the highway. The good thing is that without these, as you enter the highway the guy behind you can't swerve around you and block you in. It sounds like they would impede traffic flow....but they do help.

    Yes, ramp meters.

They are prevalent across the country for on-ramps that begin from side streets.

The one I'm describing was installed at the intersection of two major highways, which I've never seen before.

Hey guys. Last night's storm in my area, powerful 80mph wind or maybe tornado, hit hard. Blew my neighbors chimney off and it landed on, and pancaked, my outdoor a/c unit. I have a $2,000 deductible with State Farm, which was a surprise because I thought it was $500. A contractor that works with State Farm came out and looked at damages. He is suppose to send estimate to State Farm.

So...the question is, at what price point would you file a claim? Haven't had a claim in about 20 years. I'm thinking maybe anything over $2,700 file a claim. Less than that I pay for damages myself. Concerned about getting dropped or premiums increased if I have to file another claim or two in the near future.

A lone bright ray of sunshine in the whole thing, is that the a/c and furnace were installed when the house was built, 22 years old, and we had been thinking about replacing the past few years. So, would probably just make cents to go ahead and replace the whole kitten kapoodle. Thoughts?

100% put a claim in for your HVAC. Tell them both outside and inside have to be replaced. The old compressor is R22 refrigerant and you either have to fully flush the coil and line set or replace it.

My agent said no. The wind was the culprit, not the chimney. Said the only way to file on neighbors insurance would be if they were negligent in some manner. Like do handstands on their chimney or something. The interior wood was rotted on that chimney . But neighbors wouldn't have known. Builder installed that chimney with some puny nails, not screws. We had 4 different home owners lose their chimney because of wind last night.

$8900 for gas furnace and new A/C at my son’s house, last year.

At least $5K, if we’d just done the A/C.

$8900 for gas furnace and new A/C at my son’s house, last year.

At least $5K, if we’d just done the A/C.

    File a claim.

The contractor led me to believe damages may not be that much more than the deductible. Maybe they're just looking to do the least and put in the cheapest a/c unit.

In a small town near us, a lot of 80s era houses with aluminum or vinyl siding
kept having damage from winds. State Farm dumped them all. They were
built by more thna one builder. This came from another parent in the
high school marching band that the whole group was dropped due to
vulnerability to winds. There was no negligence on the owners' parts.

As predicted, I spent less than an hour cutting up the fallen tree. However, in the light of day I saw another big cedar that fell into one of the fields.

Don't count on who State Farm sends. Get a quote for a new unit (total), and also, just to replace the A/C. (from your preferred vendor).

Also, don't worry about a weather claim. That shouldn't affect your rates, at all.

Trees are the same thing. does not matter if it is in the neighbors yard I believe. If it falls on your property, it is your problem.

I believe that it depends with tree damage. If a neighbor’s tree is leaning over your property and you notify them (I believe it has to be in writing-my insurance agent suggested a certified letter), then the neighbor needs to have the tree taken down or trimmed back. If the neighbor does not deal with the tree that could cause damage to your property, then it can be filed against their insurance.

Yeah, me too, but she (or I) mellowed out to the extent that we coexisted quite well for some time after.

Dang. $2k for somebody else's property crashing onto mine would have me quite upset.

No kidding. I was flying high there for awhile. Neighbor was saying I would be getting a "free air conditioner". Ka-ching!

I questioned my agent about State Farm raising my deductible without my input. They pretty much said tough beans, we sent you a form to keep your $500 deductible and you didn't return it.

If that wasn't recent, then the difference in premiums would probably have made up the difference by now.
