well, states have all kinds of requirements for cars to be sold. including emissions. so I assume they can get away with it.
I have not seen anything very detailed. Are plug in hybrids allowed (where the engine is technically just a "range extender" and the car only works on electricity?
making the rule something like that (plug in, minimum E only miles, plenty of ways to do it) with incentives for full EV seems like a much more logical way to do it.

Drove the new Genesis G90 yesterday. What a car!!! But the MSRP was over $90,000 and that’s for the base model. That’s an increase in MSRP of $15,000 over my 2021 and since they are not discounting them and getting $2,000 over MSRP for them, that’s $22,000 more than I paid 15 months ago for my G90.
They have priced the new G90 close to the BMW 740i and $17,000 below the MB S500.
But it’s way above what I would spend for a car and my 2021 has only 8500 miles on it. But it is a fantastic vehicle!
They did a nice job, distinctive and it looks like a luxury car; Interior looks nice too; ....but, I don't think you need a new one Mike!
The decision, to take effect by 2035, will very likely speed a wider transition to electric vehicles because many other states follow California’s standards.
Seems like it would be pretty easy to play a shell game whereby the vehicle is "used" with 20 miles on it.
Well to be used it has to be sold and titled. Since they won't allow gas powered cars to be sold you wouldn't be able to play that shell game.
Might I suggest a forum posters convention in California every year starting in 2035 where we come in our thirstiest gassers. Invite friends.
I wonder if the law would prevent you from buying in another state and then transferring title to CA since technically it would be used at that point. I mean, what would they do if someone moved to CA from say Texas? Would they make the person leave their car at the border?
I can’t believe that this CA law would survive a restraint of trade suit.
They may have restrictions about bringing in a gas-powered car.

Since Mrs. venture finally realized she doesn't need something as large as her Ascent, I have been casually looking at something else for her. I mentioned that the Outback might be a good fit for her; especially after she has had quite a few Foresters.
I know this is a horrible time to buy a car, but I still went to look at the new Outback. Man! Why did they put all that black cladding on it? Around the wheel wells and dripping down from the headlights. I don't know if I want something that looks like that in my driveway. Of course, that may all change if she decides that's what she wants.

Not ideal, but it is distinctive and not too weird. I found the dog leg look a little over the top on these cars;
I’ve been looking for an old generation (2011 and prior) Ford Ranger without success. Everything out there is to old, to beat, too rusty or too expensive. Consequently, I’ve never even driven one.
Today I got my chance. We were tasked to pick up a Ranger from a local muffler shop that had been using it as a shop vehicle. Ultra long term lease I guess. I assumed it would be a newer one 2019+ but it turned out to be a 2010 XL 2.3L auto with only 57k miles. Stripper model, crank windows and manual adjust mirrors. No electronics other than am/fm radio.
This thing had led a rough life. The bed was dented everywhere. Seats were ripped and the gear shift indicator didn’t work. Despite the defects it ran and shifted well. The ride was noticeably truck-like but I could tolerate it.
This would have made a great new hooptie if I hadn’t noticed rust bubbling from the rockers. Still I wonder what deal I could work out with the company.
You need to be really careful with those if they have lived in the salt belt. If they have the spare tire no longer mounted underneath the bed but instead riding in the bed, that is your first clue. They suffered terribly from rear frame rust in those regions. The spare tire carrier was the first victim of the rust, then the remainder of the frame back there. Now that even the newest have some age on them, they are very rare here because they all rotted out below. Unless you can find one that wasn't driven much and rustproofed regularly I would be very cautious.

On a darker color that black cladding might not look so bad.

Don’t worry, I’m well aware of rust issues around here. That’s why I wouldn’t consider that company lease return even with the low mileage. A lot of small trucks like the Ranger, Frontier or Tacoma had problems with frame rust. The Ranger was prone to having the leaf spring mount rusting off.
The first thing you inspect around here is the bottom of the vehicle.

That's very cool. Love the two-car garage off the alley, too. Looks like they've done a lot of work in that basement. Very clean, and what looks like a new furnace? Also, walking distance to your favorite bourbon bar? (and, about a dozen other cool places to eat and drink).
Can you live with one bath? Maybe install another toilet/sink in the basement?
Are you going to the open house, this afternoon?
It's hard to find anything in East Row/Mansion Hill under $600K. I mean, that's a small house, but I think someone will snap it up. Bring your checkbook!
Well guys guess what. Since I had a brief but bad reaction to the shingles vaccine my employer suggested a at home COVID test and guess what it came back positive. I just took the PCR test to confirm but it will be at least 24 hours before that come back. However I am feeling fine so I likely wouldn't have know if I didn't get that vaccine.
Well anyway I can sit at home and use Goggle Earth to look at graphicguys maybe new house.

Nothing some white spray paint couldn't solve (maybe have it done by a pro). The teardrop thing in the front reminds me of a similar treatment on higher spec Camry, and it's not good there either.
I look at DLO fail/black plastic triangles as lazy design. Odd, as the rest of the vehicle doesn't offend me at all - there's some unique style there in the wheels, and the kind of offbeat steering wheels I have seen on some from Hyunkia.
The Infiniti zigzag makes me think the stylist sneezed when penning the design (but more likely just different for the sake of being different/"edgy" for cloned suburbanite types).

Cheaper than Spokane for something like that. Does no sales history mean nobody bothered to fill it out, or a longterm prior owner? That's the first thing I check when viewing listings, to find the more cynical flips, and also one owner/longterm owner time capsule houses.
Got the RDX inspected today. While waiting I watched mechanic in near side bay working on a Jeep. Had the wheels off doing brakes and looked like brand new front springs. But man, all the suspension parts I could see were covered in surface (at least!) rust. Guy was working on the rear (drum). There was already a big pile of rust on the rack below it, and most of the job I saw was beating on the drum with a mallet to break it loose. Each time it snowed rust. Finally got it off and dumped another pile out.
Not sure what vintage. I’m guessing mid-2000s? Not super new. But typical up here, especially if used like a Jeep should be.
I did here the boss go in to call customer to inform them it need calipers too. From what I saw, it probably should have had everything including brake lines and hubs. Just scrap it all.

Sales record from the county says multiple properties were involved in the sale price. It appears he bought 420 E 4th and 422 E 4th at the same time, from the same family. The $327K sale price was for both properties.
Before this year, that house was in the same family since 1985.

You should have found out who the owner was and made him an offer. That sounds like the perfect car to practice on given you’re now in snow/rust country. If you ask nicely maybe our poster buddy @oldfarmer50 will come over with his commercial size WD-40 jug and hand sledge to break lose everything you go to fix under that beast. But you’ll eventually learn or go broke taking your cars to The Guy for work.

So the owner is trying to recoup his entire investment more or less and still have a second place for himself. Sounds like he took the previous owners for a ride.
I suppose that doesn’t matter if the house is in good shape and the price is fair. Might be a chance to negotiate the price seeing that it’s all profit to the seller.

@oldfarmer50, I would guess if you had an out of state address, you could register in CA. Buying out of state but having a CA address wouldn't work.
So I open a business called "I buy cars for $100" I'll buy it with an address from out of State, you pay for the rest of the car.
won't matter to the rich folks. They will just register them to their LLC in Montana like they do with their exotics and other stuff that won't pass inspection in a normal state.

Except that most automated car washes use recycled/filtered water for the initial rinsing so you are getting salty water into crevices during that underbody wash.
I'm seeing unlimited carwashes are $18 to $20 a month, not a lot of money. What I'm saying is washing your car in the winter is better than not doing it. One of my kids lives in Wisconsin and drives a 10 year old Escape, which gets washed in the winter. It doesn't seem to have any corrosion underneath.

I actually did some research into the salt issue. Most industry sources poo poo the idea that the salt in reused water is bad for your car since they claim it’s filtered or diluted. I’m not convinced that isn’t a little self serving though.
I did find that newer washes use a reverse osmosis system to draw salt out of the recycled water but no source claimed that there was zero salt in the undercarriage wash.
I’m considering one of those undercarriage washer wands that you can hook up to the hose at home.

Not muttonchops. Tears for knowing it is so ugly.

I could live with the C-pillar but not those wheels.

Trying to get some background on it. Looks like someone bought it in April and is selling it for about what they paid for it. Kind of a red flag. But, will look at it this afternoon. And yes, if it is what it looks to be, will write a contract on it.
The Infiniti zigzag makes me think the stylist sneezed when penning the design (but more likely just different for the sake of being different/"edgy" for cloned suburbanite types).

But you’ll eventually learn or go broke taking your cars to The Guy for work.

up here, it makes sense to lease whatever car is going to get all the winter duty. that way you give it back in 3 years and the rusty undercarriage is the next owners problem!

I suppose that doesn’t matter if the house is in good shape and the price is fair. Might be a chance to negotiate the price seeing that it’s all profit to the seller.

I can’t argue with that. But if you ever decide to get your hands dirty you won’t run out of rust buckets in your new hood.

Take you car to the car wash with the underneath wash once a month from November to April and you won't have to worry about chassis and suspension rust.

What I'm saying is washing your car in the winter is better than not doing it.
One of my kids lives in Wisconsin and drives a 10 year old Escape, which gets washed in the winter.
It doesn't seem to have any corrosion underneath.
I did find that newer washes use a reverse osmosis system to draw salt out of the recycled water but no source claimed that there was zero salt in the undercarriage wash.
I’m considering one of those undercarriage washer wands that you can hook up to the hose at home.
