I am really a pickup convert now. Maverick came in handy again. Ordered a workbench kit from Lowes and it needed to be shipped to store, so I did curbside pickup today. store guy had me pull up on the apron. I already had the cover rolled back, but by the time I got the truck in park and out of it, he already had dropped the tailgate, and was shoving the 110# box up into the bed. just had to put the tailgate up and done. Length wise it would have fit in the RDX but getting something like that in is always a pain with the ledge at the back seat and trying to get into the back to wrestle with the box. Plus of course it means you lose the back seats.

that is my dream too. had the RDX in at one point but too much going on out there still so it is back in the driveway. I am nervous about fitting them both without a problem. If not, place will be back on the market by the spring!

I should have paid more attention because the door into the house is on the side wall (our old place was on the back) and the inside floor is a lot higher off the garage floor. so needs 2 steps up (old place had one). so all this means that the step sticks out into the garage far enough that it leaves very little clearance and would be easy to clip it. and that is the wife's side. I need to experiment a little and put some guide posts up. but mostly I think I need to bring both cars in at a slight angle, which should be fun. this is also our first time having a single double door.

going to be a while before I can clear out some extra stuff on my side (including a large exercise machine) to even sort it out. but if it ends up being an oversized 1 car garage I won't be happy! Though getting a Miata or some such toy means the truck will have to sit out anyway, and a little car can always tuck into the side

Our stairs are on the back wall and we have three. It takes a good bit of the length away on that side. My wife’s XC just fits. The S60 was comfortable there.

If I end up with the RAM or other full sized truck we will have to switch sides and I have to move my work bench to the storage room in the basement. I may just get rid of it because I hardly use it.

Gee, I hope I haven't missed dishwashers altogether.

Our old Kenmore gave up the ghost a few months ago.

Replaced it with a Bosch. They've won a convert. Quiet, ridiculously good.

We are slowly moving to buy the good stuff in the first place and skip the hassles.

Actually, that started with a Miele vacuum cleaner.

Then we discovered a vast difference between Samsung and LG, which is for appliances Samsung makes junk. LG makes some very nice stuff.

I really have to update the cars. We're up to 6 Mazdas...

Hello. I'm at least back for the moment.

Whoa. Hey, good to hear from you. Hope all is well.

How is MB? Did the Sprinter get a little better mileage as it broke in?

I was sold with Bosh when I saw that something like seven out of ten top models were from them. Probably because they were all having same or similar "engine", just different feature sets. And the margin between Bosh models and anything other was also very significant. Another thing was rack design. Samsung and LG had best racks (most flexible), but Bosch's racks were alright - and I still have embargo LG/Samsung in my house. Anything from Whirlpool and Maytag looked like a throwback to eighties. These racks, especially bottom looked like unchanged for over 30 years. Looks like Whirlpool chose to ignore any innovation in DW interior space design and still charge pretty penny for their stuff.

Haven't driven it enough here to assess. I did check the tire pressures. The door jamb shows 52F/70R. They were at 70-72 all around. And since we aren't maxxing the capacity, I decided the rear doesn't need to be 70. So I took it down to 54F/60R. We'll see how that changes the ride quality.

It is a huge hassle for around town, though, that's for sure. Couldn't even get drivethrough from Sonic because both drivethrough and parking spots are 9' max. And their walkup wasn't working.

We haven't done much since getting here. Sat was largely furniture and home improvement shopping. I spent the bulk of yesterday building a closet. And now I'm working today. I think tomorrow starts actual vacation.

From what you describe, those high jobs might be nice if you’re in the biz, otherwise they are a pain and a standard van is probably the way to go.

Could be worse. I was on the highway today and saw one of those Ram/Fiat Promaster high vans with a full-on camper conversion, looked pretty new, easily mid 100Ks I expect. Had Texas plates. Can't imagine how much fun it would be driving that all the way up here. Looked like this one:

If you decide to flip it, do you think you’ll have a problem? From what we’ve been hearing about the flip market it might be slowing down a bit but I’m guessing you’ll be able to break even at worst.

I’m sure you’ll let us know. But this is the time to enjoy your vacation and get away from shop talk.

I think the most interesting part while driving is how high up it is. At one point, I thought I was being tailed by a Civic, but it turned out to be an Odyssey. We are looking down at the roofs of Tahoes and Escalades.

Welcome back Fezo, it’s been awhile. I was in your state today (the top end) when we got embroiled in this mess:

    https://www.northjersey.com/story/news/bergen/mahwah/2022/08/22/route-287-north-accident-today-shut-down-mahwah-nj/65414028007/

They were hauling the truck cab away on a trailer and it was crushed completely flat having landed on it’s roof. Miraculously, the driver survived. There were several other trucks with their front or back end littered about the scene. Even though we were traveling on the opposite side, the lookie-loo factor held us up for about 30 minutes.

I also got some seat time in a brand new Ford transit 350 cargo van which was interesting since qbrozen had been reviewing his.

Over a 150 mile trip of highway (72 mph) and rural (50mph) it averaged 18.1 mpg, no doubt helped by the lack of seats or cargo. I think it had the 3.5L with a 10 speed auto. I didn’t find the ride uncomfortable but the empty interior reverberated with road noise and tire whine. Tons of interior space, I could stand upright (I’m 6’2”) with about 4” to spare. Might make a good camper conversion. Handling was stable but I would never try to take a corner at speed. I’ve driven similar hi profile vans like this in the wind and it’s scary.

I used to go through that stretch of 287 all the time. No more now that we relocated. Might do it once a year. But I can see how that would screw up traffic something fierce.

the white whale rental I took from philly to Boston was that configuration. high top transit 350 LWB. AWD too. and that pulled close to 19 overall. and really was pretty nice driving considering how huge it was.

Thanks explorer, I'll be able to sleep tonight and not have to wonder what those things are.

Do you leave mice repellent in the Mustang. I leave this stuff in the engine of the Florida car. I haven't had a problem yet, but it is preventative,

I have read you can put S.O.S. pads in the exhaust pipe too.

Mint scent? You'd think cat scented repeller packs would be more effective. Sweep up some old cat hair, put it in a baggie ...you're good to go.

Many dogs are better st catching mice than cats are so how about dog scented repeller?

West Highland White Terriers were breed to kill mice/rats that stowed away on cargo ships crossing the ocean. My parents had a West Highland. Never a mouse in the house despite living next to a wooded area.

I worked in an office that was attached to w warehouse/factory and we had a Doberman there. On average we found that dog twice a week playing with a mouse it caught.

We had a Rat Terrier; those dogs were legendary for hunting small vermin. Farms would have them to keep the rat population down.

Another bizarre happenstance while on the road today.

Now what transgression is so bad that you would risk killing yourself, not to mention many other innocent people to settle some macho spitting contest? What’d the world coming to?

Yesterday, I was on my way to tennis on a two lanes in one direction highway, that splits ahead. A pretty blonde lady is on my rear bumper in her Audi SUV. I can't go faster because there are cars ahead of me, but I leave a little extra space in front because I'll need it if we slow down. She scoots out to the other lane, gets ahead and cuts back in front of me. I had a feeling she was going to do that.....so I just let her. All that to get one car ahead.....and arrive 5 seconds earlier at her destination. Once we got on the next highway which was 3 lanes in one direction, she was in the right lane and I moved over a lane and flew past her anyway.

Your guy is a weird one....but, they are out there!

I picked my grandson up at school for a few years. The school was about 3 miles away. The road was also 2 lanes in one direction almost all the way.

I learned if I stayed in the right lane, I almost always arrived sooner than the ones in the left lane and/or the ones changing lanes to get an advantage. I would say over 90% of the time.

You could pick out something distinguishable about a vehicle to be able to track it and slowly see it fade away.
I had a commute that had almost 10 miles one way on a road that was two lanes in each direction. I figured out what parts of that road you had to be in the left land and what parts you needed to be in the right. Following that I shaved off a few minutes off my commute.

Explorer, I agree that changing the address is a royal pain. I never realized how many places had it. Just keep working down the list as needed! I did miss one. we brought something with us that won't fit so I decided to try and sell it on Marketplace. Did the ad, 2 days later, no activity. so I went in to lower the price and realized I neglected to change the location so it listed it as being at the old place. Though in the ad body I said what town. And given that it was heavy and driveway pickup only, that was going to be a problem.

so had to delete it (could not figure out how to edit that) and change the location and repost it. Maybe that will get somebody interested!

I never used Marketplace since I don’t use Facebook and that venue is a scammers paradise. Try Craigslist.

Question for you guys that got the shingles vaccine. Did you have any side effects from it? I got jabbed for the first one maybe 6 hours ago. Now I am feeling flushed, had some pretty good congestion a while back, had chills and feeling a bit worn down. :'(

It's been a year or two, but no problems here. As I recall you get the first one months before the second. Pricy, too -- even with my excellent coverage, the shots were ~$50 each.

That’s the typical scam but they also do it with cars, airline tickets….almost anything. The sad thing is that it’s typically the disadvantaged who fall for it. $500 for most people would be bad enough but when it’s all you have it’s devastating. More sad is that the police, CL or Marketplace don’t seem to care.

Exactly. We were one of the first to get it in our area and reported that to the pharmacist that gave it to us. He said other's had told him the same. The second one is much better.

This software makes it difficult to delete drafts. You can't just do it by edit/deleting the text here in the discussion. You have to go into the quick links menu in the top right of the page and find the "Drafts" (or is it "My Drafts"?) choice which only shows if you have an unposted draft, then go in there where it does allow you to delete it. Bad design.

A policeman is out patrolling and sees a car driving dangerously slow on the highway. He pulls the car over and comes up to see a car full of older ladies.

    “Morning officer.”

“Good morning, Ma’am. Do you know the reason I pulled you over?”

    “No, sir.”

“You were doing 35 mph on the highway.”

She frowns. “The sign there says 35.”

He holds back a smirk. “That is because it is Highway 35, not 35 mph. The speed limit here is 65 mph.”

    “Oh, goodness.”

“I am going to let you off. I hope this has helped.”

    “Yes, indeed, officer. Thank you.”

The police officer notices the older ladies with her are quiet, staring straight ahead, and all of them are extremely pale.

    “Are your passengers okay?”

The older woman says, “They’re fine, we just got off of 136.”

I didn't have as much of a reaction as you did for the first shot. However, I had had the previous single shot vaccine for shingles maybe 4 years earlier.

BUT the second shot, 4 weeks later, WOW. That had me with a sore arm, taking aspirin for headache and a low fever. I went to bed for most of the next day. I believe I took my Equate version of Nyquil at half dose, which helps with aches and gives a little grogginess to help sleep. I was among the first to get the double dose shot after it was available to the public in January.

Had Shingrix a couple of years ago; first shot no issues. Second shot, I was just worn down for about a day, a bit of arm pain. But, after that, right as rain.
And, my insurance covered both 100% as "preventative."

Another demerit on the sprinter. Had to remove 2 rows to haul furniture. WOW!! Those are a nightmare. Couldn’t do it by myself, and that was after carrying a loveseat down 3 flights of stairs by myself. That’s crazy. Oh, and when you finally get a row out, it doesn’t stand up on the floor.

Last week my sister had someone show up at her front door stating that he had rented her house from some guy on Craigslist. Poor guy was out his $500 deposit and had no place to sleep.
    WOW….pretty brazen.

Shingles shots….got 2 last year. No issues.

    Rented a Rogue

My car is getting the bumper repainted. Cheapest rental I could find.

    Impressions?

Not sure what these sell for.

    But, it’s
    -slow
    -buzzy
    -bouncy
-handles like it can’t make up its mind where it wants to go
    -crashes over bumps
-no connection between steering wheel and the direction you want the car to go
    -seats aren’t half bad
    -it has blue tooth
-been a long time since I had to put a key in the steering column ignition to start it
-27K on the clock. Pretty tight build. No squeaks or rattles

The owner’s manual should be in the glove box. That will tell you what year the Rogue is…

Good review. Sometimes I look at a Rogue and I think, that looks like good solid transportation just to get around. Then when I read the negatives it makes me realize why I won't be satisfied with basic transportation to get from A to B.

Kind of why I went to a baseball or football game every 3 or 4 years....to remind me why I don't need the hassle of actually being at a game.

You have to lean it against something.

When is the Wagoneer coming ?

Anyone notice that the glitch is back when you post in a thread and go back to your bookmarks it tags your post as new?

Don't know about the Rogue, but when I test drove the Altima a few years ago, it had many of the same driving characteristics. Such a disconnect from the road you'd think the car was allergic to the pavement.

Sister's friend of family plumber installed water heater (Bradford White) today. $1,225. My plumber was going to charge $1,525. Looks like I need a new plumber.

More progress. 3 hours and carpel tunnel from turning about 150 screws, my new Kobalt (from Lowes) workbench is assembled. Put the shelf next to it and got the big stuff put away. Storage room looks vastly better. Actually a very nice unit, complete with 3 drawers. Just need to figure out what to put where. But irs actually much nicer laid out than my old place was. Small wins!

That's a Rogue Sport, known everywhere else in the world including here in Canada as a Qashqai. It's a compact SUV one size down from the regular Rogue so it competes with the Tucson, CX-30, Sportage, etc. Not surprised by the driving dynamics given it's a Nissan.
