When I went down to get sparkle I remembered that I threw out all the old open stuff when we moved. So had none. So at 9 PM I’m down at lowes restocking my paint supply shelf and buying a gallon of paint. Then home to sparkle them all in. Thankfully it dried nice so when I sanded this morning most were ready to paint. Had a few needing a second hit of sparkle so that’s drying now. Then paint before dinner. Hopefully just 1 coat, since it is a closet!
And man, I hate repairing drywall and doing sparkle. Though I spent a lot extra for the fancy stuff this time, and it really did work good!
Isn't it a bit of a waste buying that expensive sparkly filler when you're just going to paint over it? I much prefer the non-sparkly kind.

Frustrating day yesterday. Last Tuesday (so 8 days prior) I took the ATS to the body shop for an estimate. Estimator asks if I want to wait around an extra half-hour to get a printed copy of the final result or if he can just email it to me. I chose the latter and left once he gave me back my keys.
I let it go b/c of the long weekend but when there was still radio silence yesterday I contacted him. His response was "check your spam filter because a lot of my customers say that's where my emails end up." Sure enough, there it was. Why he didn't mention that at the time is a mystery, but whatever.
The repairs are worth $2200 +/-. The good news is that he sent it off the the insurer and the repairs are approved, so he is booking the car to come in next week for an 11-day repair (why so long I do not know but I'm not going to push it). The bad news is that the response from the insurance co. is that I have to pay a $500 deductible. Huh? I asked him about that and he thought it was strange b/c I was the one who got hit. He said that when he saw that response from the company he reached out to the adjuster b/c he thought she made an error, but got no response. I told him to go ahead and book it anyway and that I would go to work on them.
I then sent a polite email to the adjuster on the subject. I have had zero contact or communication with this person since all this started, not one word. As of this moment, still none. Grrr. Things are starting to rumble inside. Add to that similar radio silence from the bridge authorities who probably have video footage of the incident but seem reluctant to even speak to anyone about providing it. Double grrr.
I’m no expert, but AFAIK, someone has to pay the deductible. Since a guilty party is not identified, it is you. Even if something falls on your car without you in it, you pay a deductible, and that obviously is not your fault.

There is indeed a guilty party identified. The insurers have that information. Now, whether this guy has changed his story of "Sorry, I just didn't see you" obviously I do not know.
This is why anytime I had a claim that wasn’t my fault I wouldn’t allow my insurance to pay out. I contact their insurance company (available on Police report) and deal with them directly.

@graphicguy Who did this work? I couldn't find anyone that wanted to do spot work on the bumper of my GTI, where it had license plate holes.
Performance Collision, the shop associated with Performance Honda (where I bought the car), Performance Toyota and Performance Lexus. It’s up here in Butler County.
I didn’t get the impression that they would turn down any work. But, who knows?
They had an LC500 in one of the stalls being repaired. COuld only see the back, which looked fine. But, given the brief glimpse I had, looked like a crunched front end. They had what looked like a new 4Runner in one of their paint booths. Not sure what was happening there, but it didn’t have tags on it.
Spent some time talking to the manager. He said they’ve been slammed. They’re opening a mechanic and body shop training facility between the Honda and Toyota stores so they can hire and train their own people as opposed to trying to hire from the vocational schools. I can see the appeal of doing that.
He also said rumor has it, my old Acura store is going to be turned into something else. That would be sad.

When my TLX was backed into (while parked) I called my agent, explained the situation, and told me to call their company directly. So I did, GEICO verified details, and took care if everything. Not a dime out of my pocket. I actually made about $200. There was a tiny scuff on a taillight and they offered me payment in lieu of replacing. I was happy to take it since they pretty much buffed it out anyway.
@graphicguy How many Acura dealers are in your area? Charlotte only has one. Audi has two, one about a mile from Acura and the other near the Charlotte Speedway (Concord, NC). The Acura dealer is very light on inventory. I wonder if they just aren't selling or they are sold before the vehicle hits the ground. Great news on your bumper repair.

Speaking of being frustrated, Walgreen’s is really trying my patience. I started in on Monday to schedule an appointment to get the new Covid 19 booster. The closest Walgreen’s doesn’t carry Pfizer, only Moderna, so I scheduled at the second closest for Wednesday, the 7th, yesterday. I show up at the appointed time, and they say I don’t have an appointment. WTH? So okay, I go home, and reschedule, for today, the 8th, at the 3rd closest Walgreen’s. And this time I print the confirmation, including a “confirmation number”. I show up on time, wait in line 15 minutes, only to be told they don’t have the new booster.
The confirmation, which I printed off and have in my hand, specifically says
“COVID-19 Pfizer-BioNtech updated booster”
In black and white, right there on the page. Along with the store address, so there’s no question about being at the right place at the right time. All they can tell me is they do not have the updated booster. I wonder if the Walgreen’s store that I was at yesterday also didn’t have the updated booster and was just using “no appointment” as an excuse?
If they don’t have or can’t get the updated booster just yet, that’s fine, I’ll wait. But why schedule appointments if you don’t have it?
I am working from home today and have the TV on in the background tuned to the Mecum Auction. So far I haven't seen outrageous pricing. Perhaps the market is starting to come back to earth?

When you mentioned that you had bought a pump, I realized they were much better than the harbor freight one I had. I asked which you had gotten. I then picked from the group based on the specifications of the hose and power cable lengths. IIRC you weren't sure which one you had bought and indicated one that was like it, and there were several similar ones. The other two I have bought from the group have served well in light use. But I recall this triangular shaped one had some comments about phantom cause failures. But some of the others did also.
My air pump is about 3 or 4 years old now. I don't think I have used it but it is there just in case. Amazon is about 98% fine in my experience. Unfortunately, things can break down at times. I am hoping the KN95 masks we got on amazon are really KN95s. I think I would trust Walmart direct to amazon, where vendors aren't really checked out.

Yeah.....the one I do business is the one nearest to me was just taken over by a large local mega dealer. Drove past it yesterday, and it looks like a ghost town, now. I counted maybe 15 cars on their lot, and that's for both new and used. Both of the service writers at the Acura store went to the Honda store I bought my Accord from. So, not sure who is now at Acura. I hear sales people are turning over, which is strange given all of them have been there for as long as I have been buying Acuras (16+ years).
The other Acura store is about 10 miles away. They are also locally owned.
I know that Acuras don't sell as well as BMWs or Lexus around here. Perhaps the area can only support one Acura store. But, that would mean no competition and that always means higher prices.

In some cases they may have thought the vaccine would be in on that day, but it didn't make it. Annoying, but they know the vaccine is supposed to be in on a certain day, they line up appointments because they want to start giving it out, it doesn't arrive when it was supposed to.........you're stuck. It is aggravating and not right, but one explanation of what can go wrong. Maybe make the appointment for next wee.

It is a total failure of their IT department. This morning, at 10:03 a.m., I received a text message reminding me of my appointment for 12:00 noon. If their system was up to spec, it could have easily texted me "Never mind, we don't have the new vaccine."

Still have not gotten one. Tried again yesterday, no response again. Apparently up here if there are not injuries they generally no longer require one. Bizarre.

I bought a couple of 12 volt car tire pumps after @driver100 had mentioned them here long ago. I gave one to son and DIL. He used it about 3 times over 1.5 years. It failed and that fit the pattern of reviews for that pump on the amazon descriptions. I went to the purchase link on my amazon. It had a different button there that linked you to the manufacturer for support. Hmmm. I figured the company had been "banned" from amazon over bad merchandise.
I wrote a comment on page provided for Audew in Hong Kong. Got response of "it's been more than few months. No support. Hope you understand."
So I thought I'd respond that it had been used only a few times. Got response that they would either send product which would take a long time or refund.
Then next day response to my choice of a refund was amazon link "wouldn't let them refund after 3 months." Hmmm. Banned from amazon? And told me to contact amazon and "ask amazon to see how they could do refund. Amazon of course had nothing to help after getting past language barrier and a third agent -- using chat, no less.
I responded to Audew to just send a product. I'd wait.
Today response was that "product not available. I should try further with amazon." So my response was to just send a similar product--since they still are peddling their wares on Walmart, that should be easy to do-- OR I suggested just send a check in US funds to my address.
What will be their response tomorrow morning? Have I played them along for enough time? Have I gotten my money's worth out of stringing them while they think they're stringing me? I expected to get $0 or no replacement pump. So I'm out nothing.

So about a month?😉
Had this discussion with my son just last night. He said something similar.
Haven’t shopped it for a month or so, but it’s a Hybrid, and it’s a Honda Accord, so guessing offers would be pretty close to what I saw earlier. ~$2K more than I paid for it. Hybrids, of any lineage, are about as rare as hen’s teeth around these parts.
The issue…there’s nothing I can get my hands on (that’s the important part) that floats my boat.
Bronco was on my list, but the local dealers are still price gouging….even on ordered units. All that, despite the warnings from Ford.
And, for some inexplicable reason, given my tastes don’t usually run to the more mundane vehicles, I really like the Accord. I even like it better than my previous Acura TLX, which I liked a lot.
I'm somewhat surprised you like the Accord better than the recently designed TLX. I've seen a few new TLXs in the wild and they look really nice. Other than thru car reviews and online viewing I have yet to see a new Integra.

Finished another project around the new house. Installed a storm door on the entry to the house from the porch. Took me much longer than I thought, about 6 hours, but it's all done. We haven't gotten any screens from the builder yet, but now we have one. Got the door at Ace, was about $50 cheaper than H-D or Lowes for a Larson full view door. Probably will install another one soon.

Possibly. All that mattered was that I got a check. I recall way back in the early 90s someone smashed my truck and I definitely talked to the other guy’s insurance. I’ve also talked to insurance companies when I can find out who runs down my mailbox.
The point is not to pay any deductibles.

When I worked for the large conglomerate (Warner Communications formerly Warner Brothers) they owned 1000s of vehicles, and they did it through an insurance broker just to have the right forms etc., but they paid out for any accidents......kind of like having their own insurance company.
Possibly. All that mattered was that I got a check. I recall way back in the early 90s someone smashed my truck and I definitely talked to the other guy’s insurance. I’ve also talked to insurance companies when I can find out who runs down my mailbox.
The point is not to pay any deductibles.
.....also, I could be wrong but we have "no fault" insurance. So, I think that we are compensated by our insurance company, and then they go after the other person's insurance company.
I am amazed at how many people on Judge Judy don't have insurance. A lot of them say they were going to buy it the next day, or they forgot to send in the money. Many of them also don't have a license! But they don't see anything wrong in driving to the store or to a party. Never thinking they may injure someone and have to pay a few $100000s in compensation.
As soon as your insurance company determines the other party is at fault, if they are "nice" they'll waive the deductible. If they are typical, they'll say the deductible is part of subrogation and when they collect, you'll collect.
This is why an insurance company trying to say they are only 70% liable (and then maybe only 90% liable upon re-review) despite some dash cam footage, when they darn well know it should be 100%, is a problem. It behooves them to make this a SOP as I guarantee by offering only 70% they rarely end up paying more than 90%. I call it bad faith. I'd like to see these people tarred and feathered.

This is why anytime I had a claim that wasn’t my fault I wouldn’t allow my insurance to pay out. I contact their insurance company (available on Police report) and deal with them directly.
IIRC you had a difficult time getting a Police report, correct?
That’s what I have done on the rare occurrence that someone busts up my car. I think a few years back when a utility truck backed into me I gave my insurance a heads up but didn’t file a claim. The utility company wrote me a check with no hassle. I made sure a cop showed up and wrote a report.
If he can’t get a report from whatever government agency he’s dealing with I’d go to the press and embarrass them.

Some deadbeats figure they are so broke that they are lawsuit proof. I sued someone successfully once in small claims court but he had no money, no assets and fled to Florida. Wasn’t worth pursuing for a few hundred bucks. Some people are like that which is why you buy insurance to protect yourself from them.

For anyone still interested, the old man's car I referred to sold before I could test drive it a second time. It was a C43 AMG. It was only borderline quick, had AWD and a hole in the roof. On the plus side my wife really liked it and it was a CPO at an unbelievably good price. In fact, it was the first car I've found under $50k that I've seriously considered buying. My plan was to buy it and see if I'd grow to love it. However, such was not to be...

Tell yourself that probably had serious mechanical issues because of the low price. The new owner is probably crying on the side of the road right now. You dodged a bullet. 😢😢😢

Nope, it was a one owner at an M-B dealer- less than 20k miles with a full dealer service history.

That sounds like the Seinfeld episode with the rental car reservation. Eventually he got a car.
The best part is when he was asked if he wanted damage insurance and his reply was something like, “hell yeah, I’m going to beat the hell out of that car.”
You’re going to have to find a way to enact your revenge after you finally get your booster shot. Let us know what you did.

The other Acura store is about 10 miles away. They are also locally owned.
I know that Acuras don't sell as well as BMWs or Lexus around here. Perhaps the area can only support one Acura store. But, that would mean no competition and that always means higher prices.
It is aggravating and not right, but one explanation of what can go wrong. Maybe make the appointment for next wee.
