Ford began using the turn signal lever for the horn as well with the '78 Fairmont/Zephyr and carried on in other models for a while after that. It was a Euro thing years before. I recall our family's Austin Minis and ADO16s had it on the stalk and you pushed in on the end to activate the horn. I don't remember GM ever going there but am not certain.
Chips and electronic components have been so reliable and mass produced for years it is doubtful to me that all of a sudden we would have poor production and quality control. Just another thing to make people panic.
Receiver manufacturers didn't get that memo. Many of the manufacturers are notorious for warranty issues, and just out of warranty failures, often with a chip or electronic component in the receiver. The few repair shops that remain keep overly busy, only thwarted by lack of available parts. I have a 30+ pound paper weight Denon as proof; the analog is fine; it's the digital circuits that went kaput!
The Yamaha I just bought (and still testing within the return period) was selected in large part for the long 5 year warranty. Don't trust the 3 year warranty anymore because they have Chryslers "fail at 3.01 years" specifications down pat.
I have two Onkyo home theater receivers with the bad HDMI circuit board. The first one I bought new, and failed after the warranty. The second one I bought used on Craigslist for cheap, and the HDMI board in it failed after about a year of use. Being a glutton for punishment, I picked up a 3rd one at a thrift shop for about $25, and it's still going strong after 4 or 5 years.
The two units with bad HDMI boards work just fine as stereo receivers, quite powerful actually when only driving 2 channels. But I would never buy anything made by Onkyo again, at least not new at full price. If I needed a new one, I would probably go Yamaha as they seem to be the best value for the money.
ONKYO went through a period where their QC wasn’t very good. Not sure what it’s like since they were acquired recently. They had been on the chopping block and then resurrected.
The whole Consumer Electronics industry has been in upheaval for about 3-4 years. Consolidations, acquisitions, shutdowns, etc. ONKYO, Pioneer, Denon, Marantz, etc…all have been tossed around like a hot potato. I think Marantz and Denon are still under the Sound United holding company. I know Pioneer dumped their KURO line of TVs (sadly), but their owners were Premium Audio Company (PAD), who also own the ONKYO brand.
I’ve read some recent reviews of new ONKYO AVRs, though. So, either they had some products in development and released, or it’s the last vestiges of their brand being put into the market.
Ford did that I think. and had the "squeeze to honk" steering wheel rim.
My mother's two Lincolns in the '70s, had the rubber rim around the inside of the wheel. If it was your car, and you were used to it, it made perfect sense. But, for anyone else, it was a head scratcher.
That was the hilariously named "rim blow" feature.
Thinking of horn quirks, in the mid 90s an old friend inherited a 69 Nova from his grandparents, and I suspected the car fell victim to some DIY tomfoolery. IIRC, turning on the lights could trigger the horn, and/or using the horn with the lights on would turn them off. Sometimes when the horn was stuck on, it would sound like a duck call.
They don't make horns like they used to. When I honk in the fintail, people turn their heads 3 blocks away.

Best horn I ever had was in the ‘79 Electra Park Avenue. The horn in that sounded like a cross between a locomotive and an ocean liner. Fabulous tone, and very loud.

Great article. For some reason the noise level is high, so it is best not to have courts near homes. Senior love the game, and it gets them out exercising...here is a game almost anyone can play at some level. Kids are too busy with computers, they don't play sports....seniors need to play for their health. I am hoping to try out this park in Bradenton, most of the pickleball courts are covered, which is nice to have in Florida. G.T. Bray park;
I don’t get it. The name is dumb, the scoring system is absurdly complicated, and the claims that anyone can play it seem false based on the videos of it I’ve seen. I think that it is popular at the moment because the Kardashians like it, which is a reverse indicator for me.
Some of the big GM's had a commanding presence in the horn sound. They used 3 horns and could use different pitches than the usual two tones of the "regular" cars that the rest of us drove.
Some searching could likely find the frequency (pitch) of the horns used and compare those to the regular horns.
I was hoping someone would give a little sympathy about the broken spring on the garage door and being locked in since the door won't go up. But no reactions.
I didn't realize how much we relied on it rather than the other 3 doors.
Maybe we need to talk about refrigerators. Ours has been great since the circuit board problem a year after purchase. The frosting problem later I think was my bride's leaving the freezer door slightly cracked open because something in freezer shelf was pushed against the door.
I’m having fits with my 15 y-o Frigidaire frost-free flooding the refrigerator compartment with water. Doesn’t do it all the time but something triggers it and you end up with water on the shelves and below the crisper drawers on the bottom. I know there is supposedly a tube that is in the back somewhere but I don’t know exactly where it is, what it does, or how to get at it. It got so bad this week (had to use 2 bath towels to mop up the inside) that I almost ordered a replacement out of frustration. I really don’t want to do that until the kitchen gets redone though.
Sounds like the drain on the tray under the cooling coils is clogged. When the defrost cycle occurs, the water can't drain and goes into the fridge. Is it a side-by-side with the freezing coils at the back behind a removable metal panel or is it an overhead freezer? How to get to those varies.
Try looking for videos on how to clear the drain pan.

I know what you mean about the garage. I did not carry a house key for years since we always just went in and out the garage and used the keypad. so I left the housekey inside the house (I did have a spare hidden in the shed in case the power went out)
what kind of springs do you have? The single coil on the front header, or the dual springs that run along the tracks on the ceiling? I had those break and you could still get the door open. our new house has a single (double width) garage door, with the spring mounted on the front wall. first time I saw one in person. I have no clue what would happen if that sucker broke, but since it is only 2 years old I hope I never find out.
seems like it should last better since it does not keep getting stretched out and contracted but what do I know?

We took the Club Sport on a short trip to Frankfort to eat lunch with another couple. I was able to drive some winding two lanes along with an 80+ mph interstate run. The car is just a flat out fun drive- even after 27 years. The husband was the same guy who sold his E46 Dinan M3 without telling me. He now has a Hockenheim Silver F87 M2 Competition with three pedals, Exec Package, no hole in the roof, and only 5,500 miles on it. Today, he mentioned that he thought the car might be "too much" for him so I told him this time to let me know if he wants to sell it.

The name is not the best, but as the story goes, the guy who invented the game had a dog named Pickles...and the dog chased the ball. You have to have some mobility, but the game can be played as a simple slower game or as a very fast hard hitting game. Think badminton, when you were a kid you got a net, and two flimsy racquets, if you play as an adult it is one of the fastest hardest games you can play. Scoring is easy once you have a brief lesson....your own score - for example 5, the other teams score - for example 4, and then 2 people get to serve, so it is either a 1 for first server, or 2 if you are the second server.....So, the server would say 5 - 4 - 1 (if 1st server, 2 if second server) And it was growing and popular way before the Kardashians, I don't know anything about them.

Agreed. I did it decades ago after watching videos and This Old House. LOL
I carefully studied and understood how to stay out of the way of the two steel rods I was using to wind up the tension in the torsion spring should I lose control.
The guys that do it everyday are much better and fast.
My concern is the Malibu is parked up close to the door on the inside. I'll have to make room to back it away for "the guys" to have room to work. I'll replace both springs. Hopefully those springs will outlast my time in this house.

Sorry for being insensitive to your plight. How may springs does the door have? My garage doors have two, one on each side and if one broke it would still be possible to open the door with a little effort. As far as replacing the broken spring I seem to remember when we installed a door in the barn it was not too difficult to install the springs once the door was open.
Maybe a picture of the mechanism would help us.

Paid for at purchase in 2004. I found the original receipt. 8x12, setup, tied down, with tax $1158. My FIL helped me install the faux brick underpinning to dress it up a bit. It would cost about 3x as much to replace it today.

We got the outside keypad replaced a couple months ago as the original one died. Twice now our springs have sprung on a Sunday with both vehicles in the garage! Do remember needing a ride to work that Monday the first time from a buddy. Bad stuff like that usually happens on a weekend and one is just stuck till Monday morning. I have a house key on every key fob on both vehicles just in case the garage door won't open, even tough we go in through the garage door 99% of the time. It's that one percent that'll kill ya! Made sure the kids also put their front door keys on their car keys just in case. About a year ago, found a garage door opener on the interior visor of a sold vehicle that I was bringing down to the new owner. Looked very familiar & turns out it's the same unit we have with our garage door so gave my kid my old one and put the newer one in my car.

It matters to those who win the NL crown. Winning your league is still a huge accomplishment.
On a different note, the Astros should have been disbanded and everyone involved banned for life from baseball. Others have suffered that fate for far less. I don’t understand how anyone can continue to be a fan of a cheating team. I’ve been a lifelong Phils fan, but if they were caught cheating, I’d have a bon fire for all my memorabilia and find a new team or quit watching altogether.

As a Yankee fan, of course I really don't like the Astro's. MLB has to change their drug policy and I don't care who it catches. A 39 year old pitcher throwing 98? If the Yankee hitters weren't so pitiful they would have knocked him out like Seattle did before whatever he took kicked in.

Phillies are a fun underdog to root for right now. Harper is carrying them on his back, and if Schwarber gets hot he can win any game for them single-handedly. It’s hard not to wish Rhys Hoskins to do well too. Seems like a really good guy.

Ain't that the truth.
Let me include receiving bills with errors in them or unexpected billings on Saturday and the billing departments are CLOSED until Monday at 9 am Pacific Time. LOL
I had back muscle spasms back in March so I'm not trying to fix anything like taking off the axle bar at one end for the garage door to remove the spring. The spirit is willing but the body is weak.
A major door company is in our end of metro area, and because I'm local, they'll try to get to it Monday, today. Helps they resealed the door in July, put in $$$ in a custom order patio door replacement in September. Desk lady this morning told me third time is a charm. LOL

I carefully studied and understood how to stay out of the way of the two steel rods
I was using to wind up the tension in the torsion spring should I lose control.
The guys that do it everyday are much better and fast.
My concern is the Malibu is parked up close to the door on the inside. I'll have to make
room to back it away for "the guys" to have room to work. I'll replace both springs.
Hopefully those springs will outlast my time in this house.

It’s exciting! Really hoping they can end it today as well!

Maybe a picture of the mechanism would help us.

Somehow I don't think it's going to matter much who wins the NLCS, as the Astros look pretty much unstoppable.

MLB has to change their drug policy and I don't care who it catches.
A 39 year old pitcher throwing 98?
If the Yankee hitters weren't so pitiful they would have knocked him out like Seattle did before whatever he took kicked in.

I honestly could not be happier about it. Win or lose from here forward, they did it. From lowest seed to champs. Unbelievable.

So what’s the verdict? Did the greased poles on broad street make a difference. My friends are out and survey says “nope.”

A major door company is in our end of metro area, and because I'm local, they'll try to get to it Monday, today. Helps they resealed the door in July, put in $$$ in a custom order patio door replacement in September. Desk lady this morning told me third time is a charm. LOL
