Exciting day here yesterday. We stayed home and I finally got the wife to go downstairs so we could deal with all the remaining boxes from the move (it’s only been 3 months!). Just the finished side of course. Plenty left in storage but most all of that will stay in storage.
Now it actually looks respectable and can use the room. Plus I don’t have to look at it every day. Probably only happened because the whole family (her side) is coming over next weekend so see had to clean up for them!
While I am contractually obligated to hate the Phils as a Mets fan, there is a little-known clause that exempts us when they play our tormentors, the Braves or the Padres.
I was discussing that very thing yesterday. I said I assume Mets fans would be secretly rooting for the Phils to now finish off the Padres.
This should be in the bag now. I just hope they do it at home for the fans.
It’s exciting! Really hoping they can end it today as well!
Somehow I don't think it's going to matter much who wins the NLCS, as the Astros look pretty much unstoppable.
Plus, I really like Dusty Baker from his days with my beloved (albeit downtrodden and owner abandoned REDS).
The talk a little while ago about garbage disposals must have been enough.
Ours went haywire over the weekend. It is about 6 years old and is an InSinkErator Evolution Excel. I bought one of the best there were figuring it would last a long time. It has been very quiet. Now it sounds like we are trying to grind up nuts and bolts.
Yes, I cut the power, reached down inside and didn't find anything that shouldn't be there.
Old school question since we have, well, old people too answer it! And a brand new topic! Window shades.
Our new bedroom has a double window with a roller shade. The old style where you give it a tug and it spools up. Worked fine at first but now seems weak. Have to really fiddle to get it to retract and seems down on power. I have to help guide it up and it still stops going 6-12” short of fully spoiled.
Is there a tension adjustment on these? Figured I would ask before I took it down and started screwing around with it. And want it done quick because if I have it down long the wife will want me to buy and install a Venetian blind!

If that's the roller blind I'm used to having from the old days (still have 2) you lift the flat blade on one end up out of the slot. Then you roll the blind in the direction that rolls the cloth/plastic up several turns. Then you put the blade back into the slot. That means when you pull the blind down, the internal spring will have more rotations on it already winding it up tighter as you pull the cloth blind back down to the same length as before. The tighter spring will lift it up harder and usually makes it want to "latch" easier.

Garage door. Springs are considered good for 10 years. Mine likely had close to 20, and we use the door 10-20 times a day, I estimate. The guy came at 9:50. He said he'd be 20 minutes inside. I'd be $299 lighter. That's one way to lose weight.
He left at 10:35 and we were able to go to our favorite ChickFilA for chicken noodle soup and a cobb salad with a grilled chicken filet instead of the chopped up nuggets that are usual on cobb.
"The guy" was so professional, I was amazed. While working in the garage on a steplader removing the center piece and both springs off the rod, he talked on the phone via his blue tooth ear piece to someone else about baseball or football and other topics part of the time.

I always keep the instructions and staple the receipt inside the front cover. And I a file folder in the file cabinet to keep them all. Real easy to find when you need it.
Leaving now to go get a new one. I wish I knew what I did with the receipt from 6 years ago.
On things like that which may have a warrantied failure, I tape the receipt to the outside of the disposal.
Never thought about that. The new one I got at Lowes so it's on my Lowes card.
During the kitchen remodel things got misplaced and probably discarded.
I think I will get a big envelope and mark RECEIPTS on it and stick it on the shelf where I keep papers that are important to me. We just got a new TV too, so I have 2 items to put in there.
And I was being my own”the guy” yesterday. I got out my pump and changed to winter air in the tires on both cars.
Sorry, it’s only fall. That’s the wrong kind of air for winter. You’ll have to wait until December and put fresh genuine winter air in there.
Or you could take it to the air guy.🤪
When I read the original post about "winter air", I assumed that @stickguy was talking about having to add air after the weather gets colder. I just did that this morning, the TPMS warning went off last night on the Pacifica due to a cool front coming through and dropping temperatures around here.
The sticker on the door jam says 36 psi, and the TPMS alert goes off at 33 psi, so not much leeway in there. I just aired them up to 38 psi, cold. And while I was at it, did the truck as well. Winter air, or "winter air pressure" if you will.
Leaving now to go get a new one. I wish I knew what I did with the receipt from 6 years ago.

Speaking of appliances failing, on Sunday I was scrolling through FB and came across a promoted post for Bosch appliances featuring refrigerators. I didn't know they were in that market but not surprising I suppose. What did surprise me was that they left comments open and there were hundreds of them, most complaining about their Bosch refrigerator failing, sometimes multiple times, and not being able to get parts to repair it. Lots of the failures were electronics like logic boards, but I also saw a number dealing with ice makers and compressor/refrigeration mechanical parts. There were so many that it almost seemed like they were being trolled by a competitor, but that is hard to believe. I wonder if they subcontract their refrigerators out to Samsung, LG, Hisense or some other lower-end brand? A real black eye for Bosch if true.

Bosch makes built-in refrigerators (high end) and typical free-standing refrigerators. The side-by-side free-standing refrigerators are normal, single compressor models. I'm on my 2nd one. The french-door models are dual compressor, and are expensive, compared to the competition.
Built-in models tend to be problematic for all brands. I'd guess those dual compressor models might be iffy, as well. I'm certain that the side-by-side free standing models are made in China. In the 11 years we had our first one, the only repair was a leaking coil (not cheap) at year 6.
I'll guess that almost none of Bosch appliances are made in Europe, any longer.
Leaving now to go get a new one. I wish I knew what I did with the receipt from 6 years ago.

I know I can do returns using my Lowes card rather than receipts, but I don't think they go back a whole lot of months on that record. You might ask at service desk next time you do a return. It seems to me there was something I had, maybe more than 90 days, that they couldn't do as a regular return. I think they did it as a return for a gift card... Memory... Failing...
I recall some problem about the washer/dryer which was purchase with 5-year Lowes extended warranty and I needed the receipt for that because the warranty couldn't find a record of purchase.
I watched a somewhat depressing YT video about new appliance reliability. The advice was to find some old ones from someone who is remodeling.

Q: We’ve had the same garbage disposal since we moved into our house about 10 years ago. It’s been struggling lately and making weird grinding sounds. Should I be worried that it’s about to break down? How long do garbage disposals last? A: The short answer is, say goodbye to your garbage disposal because it’s probably on its last legs. For all their wear and tear, garbage disposals are surprisingly resilient and can keep running for a long time—but everything breaks down eventually. How long do garbage disposals last? It can vary depending on the model, usage, and maintenance, but 8 to 15 years is a pretty typical lifespan for a garbage disposal.
We got a new sink about a year ago and needed a garbage disposal too. I asked them to install a Badger (which I think is an InSinkErator) and the plumber....who has always been 100% honest, said to do it right get a real GD......I don't know what it is but it is more like $350 and seems to be industrial strength, the motor sounds strong and it seems to have a lot of power. I like horsepower in my cars....and in my garbage disposal units, the more the better!
I know how to make them last forever. Don't use it more than once a month.
I had to go check the one in the new house (2 years old) because I knew it was a brand I was not familiar with (had insinkerator at the old house) and it is bright red for some reason. Brand is Garrison. 1/2 HP medium duty according to the label.
