It worked, however, all my posts as iluvmysephia1 are gone. Long gone. How are all of you all? I've been retired now for pert-near a year and a half, and, I must thank President Roosevelt for enacting the U.S. Social Security program. And, what's more, we get a bump in pay in January 2023. If anyone has the technical prowess to morph me back in to iluvmysephia1, fill me in on the details.

Welcome back! And congrats on your retirement.

What are you driving these days? And do you have any thoughts on the current car market that you care to share? Are there any cars, old or new, that you might like to get in the future?

Ahh-ha! I lured someone from the east coast in to my spider web. Yeah, good morning. I've been doing well over here in the southwest desert. I will need to add my only car, the 2021 Kia Soul LX 6-speed stick with Sparkling Silver paint and black trim to the Edmunds stableholder. Perfect for a Las Vegas Raider fan except I'm a Seattle Seahawks fan.

I go through periods where I crave another car or a different car. Right now I am studying a 2001 Audi TT Quattro. I have found several online to look at but the two best are both the 6-speed Quattros. One is red and the other one black. The lady that has the black one just replaced her TT's engine at 123,789 miles with another engine that also had 123,789 miles. Huh? She said she had to replace the car's turbo at the same time. She wants $5,500 for her TT. The black paint shines nicely on hers. I was surprised how good black looks on this small German car. But the red one from another Arizona city looks even better. His TT has 155,XXX miles on it. Her black TT has, yep, 123,789 miles logged. She wants $5,500 and he only wants $5,000 for his red TT.

So of course I'm thinking how's reliability on these TT's and research is telling me that it's perty good. I remain enthused. And apparently our car buddy Jay Leno is recovering from his hand and neck burns pretty much. Or he doesn't feel like calling the National Enquirer over to his stable to show them his burn scars.

Still 71VWGreyBug! That was another test post. I'm apparently in Edmunds.com forum jail for not using the correct password. This is me, iluvmysephia1, under my own imposter nickname. I'm retired, so unfortunately for any of you this irritates, you'll just have to put up wid it! I've got lots of time to sit on Edmunds and make mistakes.

    First world problems, eh!

Howdy-hi, oldfarmer. I missed you guys. I wasn't up to much, I was retired before I left again, and I'm still retired now. I am as much of a car nut as always, hence, I want to get back on here and hone my knowledge of all things cars some more.

I just got a Facebook message update on her black Audi TT, she upped the price $750! I tend to think she loves her TT so much that she doesn't want to sell it any more. That kind of things happens, yep.

Thank you for that tip, oldfarmer50. I'll go look for them on the CCBA board.

Man, I found one that I might like better. One that, as the plan is to work on it myself in the other side of my garage, a small car that reminds me of Dad's '66 VW Fastback. He taught me to drive stick in that car, and I still remember it up on small little metal lifts for a couple of weeks under the family carport in Edmonds, WA. Edmonds is about 15 miles north of Seattle.

I see one online for sale for $3,500 - it's a 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio GLS Convertible 2D. The ad says it only has 39,987 miles on it. What? A 2001 Cabrio? Incidentally, that's a thing now, to spin odometers backwards. With dishonesty where it is these days I don't really believe the car has 39,987 miles on it.

I was going to say that a convertible with only 39k miles for $3500 would be the bargain of the century.

Something like that would need to come with service record to document the mileage. I also believe a mechanic could check other modules that record mileage to see if they match the odometer.

Nice to see you back. I can believe a Cabrio with few miles, many of those were used as summer cars. Also maybe not the zenith of VW reliability.

An old Audi, you like dealing with electrical issues, right? I think you should also seek out a vintage Beetle. Nice ones still aren't insanely expensive, and due to how many were made, will probably always be relatively affordable - insane parts supply too, which may not be the case forever with a 20 year old Cabrio or TT.

    My Audi choices:
C2 5000 - almost extinct now, unobtanium parts, finicky
UR Quattro - ruthlessly complex, expensive, trendy
C3 Avant - complex, finicky, rare

Don’t forget the cost of soft top replacement on the convertibles. That could get expensive quick.

The clean '99 Mazda Miata in bright red paint with a new timing belt and water pump, radiator and hoses; 3" Paco lift, A/C works and a 5-speed stick might we'll be worth pursuing.

If a Miata fits the desire and needs bill, that is the way to go without a doubt. Plentiful, reliable, and cheap to feed and care for.

Such a wide variety of vehicles from which to choose

    1) 130k + mile Audi TT cabriolet

2). 40k mile VW Golf cabriolet

3). Mazda Miata with 3 inch lift kit

Hmmm. One of these things doesn’t seem like the others??

I am not a fan of older Audis. Though TTs are kinda neat cars. I just don't want to deal with one.

I would love a Miata, but only NC or (even better) an ND. I don't get the point of a 3" lift on one.

spent some time at the Mazda dealer yesterday, getting the Princesses CX-30 serviced while it is visiting for a week while she is out of town. They actually have some inventory now. No clue if they are still asking for ADMs (at least there were no stickers on the windows of the 6 cars in the showroom). Really liked the new CX-50 interior. Though the wife like the seats in the CX-5 more.

I really wanted to at least sit in, but hopefully test drive, a Miata but they did not have even one on the lot (new or used). those are really hard to come by around here now (unless you go to Carvana who seems to have lots full of them)

The CX-50 is a nice rig. Test drove one with my sister in San Diego this past August - a Turbo Premium Plus trim, I believe. Plenty quick and she was impressed with the interior, for a "non luxury" brand.

A bit pricey at $42K sticker, and it makes her 2019 XC40 T5 Inscription with 19K on it seem like a bargain at $38K.

we really like the CX5 they had. the nice mazda dark blue over a dark cognac interior. Turbo signature (I think, whatever the top line model is). also about $41k but very well loaded. Had more goodies than our RDX.

we also passed a new style CRV on the highway, in a medium red I never saw on a Honda before. Really looked good. If we had to replace the RDX now for some reason, they highest trim hybrid one of those would be high on the list. Or a Forester since we live in snow country now!

I think the Sport Touring trim of the CRV is a nice vehicle, and the hybrid makes it economical as well as a pleasant place to spend time.

Hard to believe these are all pushing $40K, these days. IIRC, our CX-7 in 2010 was around $33K, and the Outback we replaced it with in 2015 had a sticker price of (checks Monroney sticker in file) $38,094.

I would love a Miata, but only NC or (even better) an ND. I don't get the point of a 3" lift on one.

I aim ta talk to the seller about that. Of the 3 cars the Miata drifted to the top of my list during sleep last night. Well, I did read some more about the Mazda Miata. The 1999 MY seems ta be a fan favorite for the small Roadster. I read an article in the NYT from Jan. 20, 2022, about the car and people that like the car basically go Gaga (not Lady) about the car. No kidding. One woman, who is a magazine editor, continues to get her's modified.

Yes, the input is very positive about the car. Plenty 'o cheap parts everywhere, the car's probably not hard ta work on yourself (like I really would, anyway - scratch that - I would work on this one) and it's funner (they try and tell me funner is not a word, but I disagree) to drive than a 2001 Audi TT. Just kidding on that one - I would want to drive one to be sure. I don't like it when someone that I'm talking to on FB raises the price $750 - who does that, someone needy or just rude, or what? The Miata is funner to drive than a 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio GLS Convertible 2D, though. It's gotta be.

Ahh, but there's the rub - I need to drive the Cabriolet first to be really sure about it. So, in an early morning summary for right now, here's the order of interest for me:

    1) 1999 Mazda Miata MX-5
    2) 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio GLS Convertible 2D
    3) 2001 Audi TT Quattro Coupe

1999 Mazda Miata MX-5 - this is a photo of the actual Miata I'm looking at

Scotty Kilmer bought himself one. He says they're a ball ta drive and all the other usual accolades, yep.

    1999 Mazda Miata MX-5

This one's selling for only $4,500 about 125 miles away in Texas. This one looks better as she sits to me with no lift. New, meatier tires and cool new wheels, too. And a mashimoto radiator. Looks well taken care of. 107,234 miles logged.

The red Miata doesn’t make much sense to me with normal sized tires. It would need oversized tires to complete the look. The panels shown look to be in good shape though.

I can’t tell too much about the darker colored Miata other than larger tires and wider wheels ( or they bought the wrong offset on the wheels).

Yeah and I hate it when someone on Facebook is selling something and won't respond. They don't give their cellphone number and I've already sent a message to them.

They didn't message me back. Hate ta scratch the '99 black Miata off my list of just three cars but it's gonna happen right quick here.

There’s an Audi fan over on CCBA board who might be able to help you. He too had to replace the engine in his Audi.

To be fair, that was his S4. He also has a TTS, right?
I think so. All I’m sure of is that he doesn’t own a Neon. :'(

Shouldn’t that be a hint not to deal with that person? If you have to chase after someone to do business with you, you’ve already lost your edge.

What did you write? If you used the template “is this still available,” I wouldn’t respond to you. If you immediately ask for a phone number, that’s a big red flag as well.
