Videos of people popping zits or cleaning clogged ears are immensely popular, so I hear. I’ll go out on a limb and say that has zero to do with the true value of the content nor the amount of work that went into it nor the intelligence of those behind them. Just sayin.
This is coming from someone who doesn’t care for Hoovie videos, either. So my opinion is admittedly not a popular one. And I’m OK with that.
Yep. I’ve watched a few Hoovie videos and the only person who isn’t annoying is his mechanic. Hoovie isn’t as annoying as Scotty but he just rubs me the wrong way.
Speaking of car wash places, we here in Alamogordo have one called Zip's Car Wash. I take the Soul there every few months for a clean. I choose the $10 basic clean but you can spend up to $20 on a wash for your buggy.
Now, let me run this by you guys. Alamogordo has a tad over 31,000 people plus there are thousands of soldiers at Holloman AFB that's just 10 miles west. Otero County has north of 60,000 people living in it. We are getting a 2nd Zip's Car Wash! Really?
Quality of the cleanings you may ask? Pretty good, man. I don't see any swirl marks on my Soul's finish but I do have a factory-laid coating on mine from Kia. One great feature of Zip's is you get usage of their vacuums. Do they ever suck hard! I get my 14 1/2 year old Chow Chow's fur off with those vacuums....mostly. It sticks to the carpet and even seatbacks really bad back there. That Chow is a great dog, BTW. She and I are life buddy's, inseparable.
But, before I start jammin' on dogs, do you guys understand Zip's building a 2nd Zip's in a fairly busy southern New Mexico city like that?
Alright guys… need your input. On another forum, someone was talking about a miled up Armada and said that the 5.6L V8 was the best engine Nissan has made in the last 20 years. I balked and said the 3.5 VQ was a ten best for many years and was much higher regarded. Of course now I’m an idiot…

I just watched a tear down of a 5.6 Nissan motor on ‘I do Cars’ and he seemed to think it was a fairly bulletproof motor. The one he was examining died from poor maintenance which toasted the bottom end.

@kyfdx - Las Cruces is about an hour from Alamogordo. I keep trying to get the wife to consider a move to LC - real estate is still pretty inexpensive there.
An update on Hamlin is expected sometime this morning, per the NFL and NFLPA.

Yes, I use that frequently with the posts of certain members. If we had a "mute user" function here it would be even better, but I've been told that is not happening. I would settle for a "mute words or phrases" function, but I suspect that is not in the works either.
more $ failing here. wife complains last night when she went to get ready for bed that the LG TV in the bedroom was now basically a radio (sound was fine, picture MIA). found a few videos on was to reset the picture on those and tried them this morning (the old unplug it for a while being #1). the failsafe was get into the factory settings reset command and do that. turns out, without a picture, it is really hard to read the onscreen menus!
more playing and I figured out that the picture was in fact on the screen, you just needed a flashlight to tell. more googles, and hit after hit that the backlight was bad. And enough repair suggestions to know I am going to Walmart and buying another cheap TV! taking the back off and trying to replace soldered in relays and blown diodes, not happening. And I am sure it would cost a lot more to try and have it repaired than to get a brand new one.
Better than my son though. he called me NYE because they discovered water collecting in their basement because the main drain pipe (old cast iron) had cracked and was dumping water on the floor in addition to out to the sewer. Thankfully their house was designed with 2 separate drain pipes and the hall bath and kitchen were on a separate one (the broken pipe only supported the master bath) so they were not completely shut down on a holiday weekend.
plumber coming out today. I looked at the issue and part of the run was already replaced with PVC so I assume the plumber will just cut out the failed section and put in more PVC..

Fernco fittings and some PVC. Shouldn’t be too bad, hopefully! I did it at my old house. Hardest thing is cutting that cast iron without the right tools.
he (or we) are not doing it. leaving it to the professional. The hardest part might be dealing with the nasty stuff sitting in there.
I did not pull out a level to prove it, but from eyeballing, it looked like they screwed up the pitch when they cut out and replaced a section in the past. the joint where the PVC met the cast iron (downstream joint) looked like it dipped a bit, which may have caused water to sit there leading to the rust out. probably would not matter if PVC all the way, but I probably would have gone back to before the PVC section (a drop pipe where it comes from the main floor to the basement) and cut that cast iron higher, which would raise the horizontal run a bit for better pitch.
I need some clarification. Exactly what is the significance of flagging a post. What is and/or isn’t worthy of a flag. To me, just disagreeing with a post doesn’t warrant a flag.

initial reports, not good news. cast iron is cracked up to where it goes through the foundation, so will have to dig outside to see where it can be tied into. so a lot more work and money (especially if they have to dig out to mail line).
and turns out the other line is seeping so getting ready to go, but at least is solid near the foundation inside so that can just be done in the basement, but more involved since there are a lot of lines running from the laundry, kitchen and bathroom and I think they want to scrap all the old pipes down there at one time instead of trying to bandaid the current rotted out sections.
New homes, too. We're on our 20th HVAC visit trying to fix water leaking into the catch pan at the unit base. I think they finally got it, small crack in condensation pump base...

Horrifying to say the least. The public response to his GoFundMe for a toy drive for youth is nothing short of amazing though. Contrast that with some of the takes on Twitter about this situation and they are appalling to say the least so I'm going to just wait for official word from the family, the Bills, or the league on his well being.

potentially positive update. the excavator/plumber stopped over to look at the job. He thinks he can open up the hole and if the pipe is usable on the outside he can do the job from in the basement and not need to dig. plus he quoted quite a bit less than the first guy estimated. So not cheap, but a lot less than my son was anticipating. Plus he will come to do it tomorrow, and will fix the 2nd line at the same time.
worst case, if he has to bring in a digger and trench the yard, it is not far to the first place to connect (air vent pipe?) so not out of the main sewer. hopefully that is not required, and the kid has his house all secure this week for only a minor hit to the wallet.

———————————————— Those Fernco fittings are great. In the plumbing world they’re equal to sliced bread.
As for cutting cast iron pipe, we’ve used a diamond dust impregnated blade on a demo saw. Works just fine and it also works to make nice clean cuts on terracotta pipe too. Then the Fernco’s and PVC pipe finish the job.

I think he has a hacksaw I gave him. Is that close enough to a reciprocating saw with a diamond blade?
———————————————— That will work if you can get at it with a hack saw. The beauty of using the diamond blade on a demo saw is that it’s a lot less work and the blade can get into spots that are almost impossible for a hack saw to get to.

more playing and I figured out that the picture was in fact on the screen, you just needed a flashlight to tell. more googles, and hit after hit that the backlight was bad. And enough repair suggestions to know I am going to Walmart and buying another cheap TV! taking the back off and trying to replace soldered in relays and blown diodes, not happening. And I am sure it would cost a lot more to try and have it repaired than to get a brand new one.

plumber coming out today.

I did not pull out a level to prove it, but from eyeballing, it looked like they screwed up the pitch when they cut out and replaced a section in the past. the joint where the PVC met the cast iron (downstream joint) looked like it dipped a bit, which may have caused water to sit there leading to the rust out. probably would not matter if PVC all the way, but I probably would have gone back to before the PVC section (a drop pipe where it comes from the main floor to the basement) and cut that cast iron higher, which would raise the horizontal run a bit for better pitch.

initial reports, not good news. cast iron is cracked up to where it goes through the foundation, so will have to dig outside to see where it can be tied into. so a lot more work and money (especially if they have to dig out to mail line).
and turns out the other line is seeping so getting ready to go, but at least is solid near the foundation inside so that can just be done in the basement, but more involved since there are a lot of lines running from the laundry, kitchen and bathroom and I think they want to scrap all the old pipes down there at one time instead of trying to bandaid the current rotted out sections.

No! For a mere disagreement a short post should be made. Maybe you’re too busy or just too stubborn to do that.

worst case, if he has to bring in a digger and trench the yard, it is not far to the first place to connect (air vent pipe?) so not out of the main sewer. hopefully that is not required, and the kid has his house all secure this week for only a minor hit to the wallet.

————————————————Those Fernco fittings are great.

That will work if you can get at it with a hack saw. The beauty of using the diamond blade on a demo saw is that it’s a lot less work and the blade can get into spots that are almost impossible for a hack saw to get to.

Our sewer line, gas line and water line protection policies are billed through our electric utility. Strange but true.

Because it’s generally illegal on days other than holidays and weekends to have home problems. Plus you get the added benefit of paying even more for your plumbers kids college fund. And on top of those perks you get to wait and hope that someone shows up before the basement fills up to a swimming pool level.
All good reasons to learn how to swing a hammer, turn a wrench, solder a pipe and generally become a DIYer.
