I assume he doesn't have the water/sewer line protection?
I am guessing no but should ask. That is what you can get from your water company, right?
Yeah most utilities usually offer it through an affiliated 3rd party with the cost being added to the utility bill. Some insurance companies also offer coverage. As with anything, YMMV with cost, deductibles, experience, etc.
Most water around me is either provided by a municipality or if extremely rural, by your own private wells and septic systems. You’d have to buy home protection insurance from a third party.

I don't think he's looking. He has a decent command of the language, however.
He spent his break in San Diego sampling all the fast food places they don't have in Japan; he mentioned to me that all they have is McDonalds.
Took me long enough to reply. Yeah, we're 70 miles east of Las Cruces. We had an Edmunds member move there, what's his name again? I've forgotten it. He was a mod. The only thing I remember him saying was that he swept and cleaned out his garage!
Yeah, I was just mentioning the 2nd Zip's Car Wash in a small town of 31,000 people. That's interesting to me because of the small population of our town.
Yes, I actually thought of that, snake. They're airmen, or, more accurately, air people. Some may be robots, or...wait for it...clones. Getting dangerously close to conspiracy theories here.
I did scads of sleep studies on the airpeople. They get $1,500 dollars a month for CPAP equipment once they retire, in addition to their PAP equipment FREE for the remainder of their days. Wow, Uncle Sam really covers their hindquarters in the medical care department. I recall lots of great conversation with various airpeople during my sleep tech. career.
Now, I'm saving the best for last. The car I wanted but took no action on sold. It was the 2009 VW GTI in gritty dark grey. I learned something the day before yesterday. That is the car I want. The guy only wanted $3,200 for it and it had 66,000 miles on it.
Hey, be glad I didn't say 66,666 miles on it! Count your blessings. That car looks great front to back for my little retirement sports car deal. I want to take my sporty rig up in to the Sacramento Mts. easterly and gun it through mountain twisties. There's another car I thought of the last few days that I really like but don't really love:
A Ford Focus ST. I test drove a Fort Bliss soldier's (this time it was a real U.S. soldier) Ford Fiesta ST and didn't like the feel of being in the tiny cabin. It was claustrophobic and I'm not prone to claustrophobia attacks! Crossed that small car off my list.
I love the design of the new Nissan Versa. My wife voiced her displeasure of that car back in July 2020 so we bought a 2021 Kia Soul LX.
Fast forward - we both really like that car. I just want a sports car to take out and drive hard for a short time. There's a 1998 Porsche Boxter with 103,000 miles on it selling for $7,000 in Utah. I think of that car and immediately think of oil leaks on my garage floor. Driving, though? I think I'd love driving that car! Those in the Boxster club love theirs.
So, sifting to the very top of my automotive desires is the VW GTI. There ya go - you're all caught up! 2009 VW GTI
Plumbing update. Guy should up early as promised (these days practically a miracle) and cut an opening in foundation. Thankfully found solid pipe to connect to so was able to take out the rotted old stuff in basement.
Also discovered the sewer line was clogged up so going to clean that out while they have easy access. Probably explains why it backed up in the first place.
Hopefully in a few hours they are all wrapped up and he has a safe, dry house again.
@iluvmysephia1 2009 is a good year, I think. Has the TSI, instead of the FSI engine? That might have been a transition year, though. Might want to check that.

Yeah, kyfdx, now comes the research and development portion of the hunt. I better pounce on the prey fast or it'll go to someone else. I love that grey metallic on this car. The '01 Cabriolet in Vegas is still available, too.
I'll check on the '09 VW GTI engine particulars. I either get a 2nd car in 2023 or just run one car from here on out. Neither option hurts like a root canal.

My 2008 Passat had the TSI engine. Apparently that was the transition year, early 2008 models had the older FSI, later models had the TSI.

Thanks! I knew we looked at an '08 with FSI and an '09 with TSI, but I couldn't remember which was the year that had both.

final plumbing resolution. job all done, much less expensive (for more work done) than the first plumber estimated (had to use a different guy once excavation became involved). Replaced pipe, connected outside the house, and repaired the cinder block hole. also went to clean out the sewer line, and while doing that discovered a root intrusion, so they cut that out too. So he should now be good to go for a while and not broke either.
definitely went way beyond a DIY with a sawzall and some clamps job!

"We've got your new TV here to be installed. Can you show me where you'd like it?"
"Uh, I didn't order a TV" (granted, on her days away from the studio, my wife is trying to watch the entirety of Netflix, one show at a time, but we hadn't talked about this)
He pulls out his cell phone, studies it for a moment, and says "Michael (last name that isn't mine)?"
"Nope, that was the previous owner of the house; he moved out of state"
"Guess that explains why he isn't answering his phone. If you hadn't said anything, you'd have gotten a new TV!"
"What size?"
"65 inches, OLED. Nice TV."
"Well, once you figured out I wasn't the person who was supposed to receive it, you'd come back for it"
"OK, have a nice day."

They use a manure spreader.
And a pitch fork is used to "pitch" the stuff into the manure spreader. Lord knows I did more of than when a kid than I wanted to do, growing up on a small farm.
speaking of TVs, just not free ones, I have a replacement purchased and sitting in the box in the bedroom waiting to be hooked up. ran up this morning to the nearest shopping area with multiple big box options, and started with BJs hoping they would have something I liked (because I really did not want to hit Walmart or Best Buy. though probably should have tried Target first since I got their CC...) Anyway, looked at the 50" section (which I think was 3 TVs, only 2 of which they had in stock).
thankfully one was a nice Vizio with lots of built in apps and goodies. instant coupon deal too, so with that it was only $299.99. Under the $300 threshold I wanted to spend, so I hoisted it onto the flatbed, paid for it, and headed home without wasting all morning running around.
oh, most importantly, I remembered to bring my tape measure to confirm the feet will fit on top of the dresser we have it on!
fit great in the Maverick. just slid it right in with room to spare. No messing around trying to fit it in the back seats.

I needed a pitchfork of some kind this summer to put a pile of mowed grass on a cart to haul away. I was very surprised how many different kinds of forks there are. Not as many as types of shovels, but still way more than I ever knew.

The rule is: Possession Is Nine-Tenths of the Law.
This popular legal phrase is an expression meaning that ownership is easier to maintain if a person has possession of something and difficult to enforce if a person does not.
After studying Judge Judy and Hot Bench I think you should have gone for it.

We'll have been in this house 5 years this coming May.
Every few months I get mail for someone that doesn't live here and not only have we been here for over twenty years but we are the original owners.
A few years ago we received some mail addressed to a name that was my wifes first name and a very slight misspelling of our last name. Now my wifes name is very unusual and I have never met anyone else with it although I have seen one or two times where I saw the name in print referenced to someone else and the spelling of our last name was off by one or two letters. Now the mail addressed that way was junk mail aimed at teachers and we kept on getting it so I did a little research. Turns out that there was a teacher at a school two towns over with that exact same name.
2011 Hyundai Sonata, 2014 BMW 428i convertible, 2015 Honda CTX700D
junk mail people are clever. when we moved, I did put in a forwarding address for me and the wife. Looks like a lot of places mine the post office records to find you even if you don't give them the new address. But the interesting part is we quickly started getting junk mail in both of my kids names. Our daughter at least lived there not too long ago, and largely did not ever change her legal address (she moved way too often for that!) or driver's license. Our son though moved out of state in 2014 and changed everything back then.
This week there is a story on Golf Digest’s page about pro golfer Scott Stallings who qualified for the Masters tournament this year for the first time in a long time. He was getting anxious because he knew everyone else who qualified got their invitational package from Augusta National but his did not arrive.
He got a message from another Scott Stallings this week with some pictures of what that guy received from UPS. It was, of course, his Masters package. Sorting it out, it happens that the guy who received it has a vacation house that he rents out and seldom visits, but last week it was vacant and he and his wife decided to spend the week there, and found the package sitting there. He figured out who it was for and tracked down the pro. As it turned out the golfer had a place nearby some years ago and that was the address Augusta used. UPS took it upon themselves to redirect it to the other Scott Stallings down the road.
The Good Samaritan and his wife are now going to Augusta in April courtesy of the guy who is playing.
My Golf has the 1.8 TSI turbo engine and it has that annoying turbo lag. Get around it b shifting into "S" mode when at a stop light. No more turbo lag though it does hold the higher rpm's longer down the road. I eventually go back into "D" mode and all is fine. I have found on some runs down I-75, I've gotten up to 40 mpg's using unleaded regular petrol. I change the oil every 8K miles or once a year, I no longer drive 13K/year since I changed jobs three years ago. Since the pandemic, I've been doing maybe 2K/year as I just don't drive much anymore.
We replaced our family room t v last January and went with a Sony 55" unit which has exceptional color. Only issue was that it didn't fit on the old entertainment stand. Didn't know what to do but our middle kid did. She went on over to some box store and came back with a new entertainment stand, found a guy on Takl and within 3 hours, we were up & running! Was amazed how she analyzed the situation & found a workable solution. Really proved to me how grown up she had become & I was very proud of her. Was looking at a 50" Samsung at first for a lower price but the sales guy at Best Buy walked us over to the Sony set and showed me the better picture & what I'd be getting for the extra price. It was definitely more than I wanted to spend but even my kid agreed with the sales guy and just told me "to go for it...you won't be sorry". And you know what? They were both right as we've never regretted the larger size & better picture once yet. Spending the extra $ was the right thing to do and best part is the color is so real & vivid, we've never had to touch the setting yet!

Knock on the door. Find two gentlemen from Geek Squad standing there, and one of them says "Michael?".
"Yep, that's me"
"We've got your new TV here to be installed.
I'm sure there are some in this group who would have advised that I keep my mouth shut, but I'm not wired that way.

How do you think they spread manure?
They use a manure spreader.
And a pitch fork is used to "pitch" the stuff into the manure spreader. Lord knows
I did more of than when a kid than I wanted to do, growing up on a small farm.
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
thankfully one was a nice Vizio with lots of built in apps and goodies. instant coupon deal too, so with that it was only $299.99.

Yep, you sure screwed that up. I’m definitely in the camp that’s wired to take free stuff. And I’m also sure you know that.

I needed a pitchfork of some kind this summer to put a pile of mowed grass on a cart to haul away. I was very surprised how many different kinds of forks there are. Not as many as types of shovels, but still way more than I ever knew.

The rule is:
Possession Is Nine-Tenths of the Law.
This popular legal phrase is an expression meaning that ownership is easier to maintain if a person has possession of something and difficult to enforce if a person does not.
After studying Judge Judy and Hot Bench I think you should have gone for it.

In other news I washed my car today. It’s one that sleeps for the winter and I forgot to cover it up when parked. It had a thick layer of dust on it. I took advantage of the 40 degree heatwave and did it myself.

I had a few packages mis-delivered when I moved because I only changed my billing address.
I've worked so hard to repair my reputation after being a defender of GM against baseless negatives, and now this smudge.
BTW some of that pitching I did in my youth caused lung damage that I saw noted on a cervical mri saying there was damage in upper lobe of lung . Probably from chicken coop manure.
