    Finally getting internet installed this morning. Largely living without that for 10 days has been hard. Though not having watched TV for that long, can’t really say it has been a big loss!

    My wife needed to get her ring re-sized. Turns out that wearing her engagement ring & wedding band together for so many years caused the platinum to wear down. She ended up getting a brand new setting. I got off cheap, comparably.

    Adding to that, when I bought the engagement ring way back when platinum was in "in" thing. If it would have been gold, then the new setting would have cost me a lot more money now.

    So if you saw a vehicle with a "moderate" collision affecting the front and undercarriage and it seemed like it was fixed right, but it was listed twice as 2 accidents, but seemingly duplicated 1.5 or 2 years apart, would you assume it's really a 1 accident car, or perhaps the driver made the same bonehead move twice?

    Either way, would you buy it if it was discounted 20%?

    No, unless a very good inspection said ok. Then I would be hesitant and may require a deeper discount.

    Are there different dates for each accident? Is this a dealer’s description or a CarFax type report. If it turns out the owner had the same accident twice I’d have to ask myself what other bad things did he do to the car.

    I suppose no matter how many accidents a PPI would have to clear it before I bought it at any price.

    Overruling Chevron was one of the most underreported stories of the year (so far). I've seen it described a "kill shot" to the bureaucratic state. It will be a significant constraint on federal agencies when they try to expand their power through regulation.

    A PPI Inspection would be a must. Also, the repair must be damn near perfect. Then it would come down to how long has the person had the car after the accident. Was the accident a few years ago? Ok. Did they have an accident and then trade it in a month later? No.

    Saw two Porsches today, notable for their color:
    Parked in front of the Clubhouse here, a Boxster in a Bronze/Beige color; hard to describe the actual color. Maybe a wrap? But the Boxster looked fab!
    Parked in a strip mall lot, an Orange Panamera Sport Turismo. Not a color I would choose, but then I'm an introvert.
    I think I prefer the ST style (Shooting Brake!) over the standard hatchback.

    Hey old farmer, how long is your bed on the new pickup? My BIL wants to sell the Lear cap he had on his tundra. $300. But it is a 6.5’ unit. Nice shape dark blue.

    Try Marketplace or Craigslist. I put an old Toyota cap out on the street and sold it as I was typing the CL ad. Those things are expensive and lots of people looking for bargains.

    I told this story before and I’m sure you remember it but I’ll repeat it and then I have an update to the first story.

    First story (this must be about 6 years ago now):

    I’m returning to my car from just shopping at Home Depot. There is a pickup with an 8 foot bed across the aisle so I walked over and said to the guy he was driving a real oddball and he asked why. I said, “your truck only has 2 doors but look at all the other pickups in this lot, they all have 4 doors”. He replied, “I can use 2 more feet in the bed than I can with 2 more doors”. I couldn’t argue about that.

    Fast forward to my second story, about 2 months ago:

    Again I see a guy in the trades, this time at Lowe’s, with a pickup with an 8 foot bed. To have some fun with him I said the same thing to him that I said to the guy at Home Depot. His reply was, “if I wanted a toy, I would have gone to a toy store. I wanted a real pickup so I went to a car dealership. I can’t tell you how much work I’ve done with this truck”. Again, not much I could have argued about there.

    I’m now convinced guys in the trades would almost rather part with a family member than give up their 8 foot bed pickups.

    BTW, do you own a set of golf clubs. B)

    I did once but much of my time was already spent walking around large areas of grass while working the farm so it seemed redundant. I got rid of my motley collection of clubs years ago. I still have a 7 iron that my father used to do chipping practice when he would visit.

    How do I get aged bug splatters off the front of my car. I think some of them are there from last summer. Washing the car and letting it soak, then rubbing hard with a mitt just hasn't taken them off.

    I tried some Turtle Wax Bug and Tar remover, took some away, but doesn't seem to budge others.

    Advice? Other than trade in the car.

    WD-40 often works. Let it soak and rub with a cloth. Sometimes I gently use my fingernail to help loosen it. Sadly, bug splatters when left on long term often etch the paint like bird droppings.

    Years ago I had success with paint thinner and a rough rag if using a T-shirt doesn’t work. Any minor scratches caused by the rough rag can be polished out easily with polishing compound. Note that I said “paint thinner”, NOT a paint remover like lacquer thinner or Acetone which will almost instantly destroy a cars paint. However, whatever chemical you use should be first tested by trying it on the underside of the trunk lid.

    Have you tried a clay bar? Do you have an oribital? Try some polishing compound. If that doesn’t work, rubbing compound.

    BMW and Sonax sell a specialized insect remover spray. When my M6 was my DD I used it a lot. It worked extremely well, but I don't know if the same formula is used.

    Another wedding coming next June. Daughters BF proposed while we are on vacation at the shore and she accepted. Not a normal beach occupancy, but exciting!

    So it looks like a few Secret Service & other law enforcement officials from PA will be looking for traffic revenue generation duty soon.

    It looks like a lot of people need to lose their jobs. This is a cluster from beginning to end.
