This one seem like it should do the job for mostly basic TV shows and occasional stream a movie? Keep in mind if I did have a big power system it would never go above 1 because the wife would say it was too loud!

Big room and the tv speakers were marginal at the last house (actually they were crap) so definitely going to need a boost!

Yes a long 2 days. Movers came and packed us up Tuesday. I rented a cargo van to take some excess over (builder let us put stuff in the garage early). Then stayed at our sons. Wednesday movers came to move us in (builder was a huge help allowing them to start prior to closing) then closed on old house at 11, new house at 1, and movers were gone before we got back. Now just unpacking! And finding other ways to keep spending money.

You guys are great at spending my money. Even better than my wife. Just ordered that Samsung. They still sold the old version but this is 3.1 instead of 2.1, and I know enough math to get that 3 is greater than 2.

I would look at similarly priced Klipsch, Sonos or Sony systems. My wife only complains if she’s trying to sleep and my son and I are watching a movie in the primary system at THX reference levels- she says that the china in the bedroom corner cupboard rattles.

I have a 5 speaker Sonos setup. The hardware is brilliant, but some might have read about a recent software revamp that was a gongshow, with much lost or hidden functionality, and absolutely clueless and arrogant corporate communication about it. After weeks of howls from the user base, many lost features have returned, and I was able to update the app and actually use it.

Brutal humidity but I braved the sweat and cleaned out the garage. Advantage to a much bigger space. I have everything from the old one in there, and everything from the shed, and still plenty of room (in theory since I have not tried it yet) for both cars. I think the open footprint is as big as the old garage wall to wall.

Now just need a driveway since the concrete slab is a good 4” above grade so not looking to go over that. Gets done next week (week of the 15th) since we are on vacation and it won’t be an inconvenience to us!

Next shopping list item. Any recommendations for TV wall mounts? Need one for above the fireplace, and one for bedroom. Would like bedroom one to be able to angle to the side since it will mount off center. Family room one just want to be able to get behind it easily if need so being able to articulate out would be nice.

Main TV is 65” I think and bedroom might be 41”?

I got ambition today (always a bad thing) and decided to do some rust proofing on the truck. I filled the doors, rockers, cab corners and tailgate with Fluid Film and then treated various little spots of surface rust with rust encapsulator.

After about an hour it got hot and I got tired so I’ll finish it up another day. I never liked crawling under vehicles when I was young and I don’t like it now. I wish I had a lift.

We got home from dinner early last night and the wife mentioned she had parked kind of close to my car and was surprised I got into it. Showed her another problem in the garage which is the foyer closet she insisted on having the builder add to our house. Since we bought a shell house with only the rooms framed out, we were able to make some changes to the floor plan, which we did. Besides moving the entrance/exit of the laundry room into the house by having a pocket door, she really wanted a coat closet in the front foyer. We had a wall added on the other side of the foyer so we could have a place to put a mirror and small table for keys and such stuff which I wanted since we needed a wall to put her piano on. I wanted the closet to go on that side so it wouldn't take any space from the garage but again, I was overruled and it went on the garage side, taking away some much needed real estate. By losing that amount of width needed for the new closet, another issue was added putting both vehicles in the garage.

So, I need to be cognizant of both the length and width of any vehicle I get which hasn't been much of an issue until now. Cars are getting longer and wider with the age of compact CUV's so I know a GTI will fit and though I don't want another German vehicle, it might just fit the bill going forward. And with the amount of miles I drive now, this would certainly be the last vehicle I'd need to purchase since I'm turning 70 later on this year. And with my health issues, not so sure how many more driving years I've got left. So, just hoping no dash lights come on for at least another year and possibly look to get a 2026 GTI and be done with it.

Speaking of finding room in the garage . . . We live in a condo, so we share a garage with the neighbor. She was very concerned when we bought the Kia (it’s so BIG! — i think it actually has the same dimensions as their Civic). So she made a line with bright yellow tape down the center of the garage, and put another vertical yellow line I down the middle of each of the back wall overhead cabinets to indicate where the middle of each car should be. I have to say it works perfectly. Of course the Kia also has all kinds of cameras, but as an old school measure, it’s not a bad idea!

When you can fill up your ICE at home, let me know.. :o

I don't need or want to fill my gasser at home....I do it when I am going or on the way home. And I don't have to do it as often or for as long.
But the point we're making is that I can drive every day to/from work, run errands, etc. and plug in each night at home and start the next day with a "full tank".

With your ICE car, at the end of the week you have to find a gas station and fill up.

Oh, and the cost of your "fuel" just shows up on your monthly utility bill.
The problem is that plugging in your batteries each night will degrade your batteries faster, that is why they recommend running that batteries down to 20% or less before recharging. Also charging batteries past 85% will also degrade your batteries faster.

That doesn't happen with a gas tank.
You can choose not to charge each night - individual preference. The app on your phone can control how full your batteries get, when do you charge.

Everybody who owns an ICE vehicle has to go to the gas station, at some point.

Hey, I own two ICE vehicles, and I like them. I just think that throwing out the baby with the bath water, when it comes to BEV, is short-sighted.

Horses for courses, and all that.
Certainly no expert here, but from what I read, the big deal in China for electric cars is the plain old battery swap. Pull in, they yank your battery, slap in a new one fully charged and off you go....much faster than charging and sometimes even faster than filling up with gas. Growing much faster than charging stations. Something like this might be in the works here, thus the hesitation with building new charging stations.

Just plugging it in in your garage and finding it fully charged in the morning, seems pretty easy.
And you don’t have to do it that often. We’ve had the Blazer for a month and we are just now thinking we might charge it this week. Unless we are going out of town it’s rare for us to drive more than 20 miles in a day.
After owning a PHEV, which we do plug in more often, we realized how simple owning an EV can be. It’s just no big deal. And I love not having a budget item for gas any more.

Correct, the fluid film is a protectant. Guys on the Tacoma FB groups swear by it. "Check out my rust free 2016 with 375,000 miles. I literally drive my truck into a salt marsh to catch my dinner every night. Fluid film every year at the end of September." In addition to having to reapply every year, I understand it is quite a messy project.

Fluid Film became big up here in the salt belt around 2000 or so for me though I think it was developed and in use long before that. I remember when it hit the consumer market here a big part of its story was that it was used for a long time by the military on their equipment. It seems to work. Unlike the previous thin oil/solvent sprays that drip, this stuff has almost the consistency of liquid hand soap and tends to stick versus dripping, but is still thin enough to seep into crevices and seams, and doesn't smell bad either. It doesn't harden like rubberized sprays but also resists washing off to some extent.

Fluid Film is a rust preventer just like oil spray undercoating. Acts as a moisture barrier. It’s a viscous liquid which flows into crevices. In VT they include a full body Fluid Film treatment at some new car dealers. I just treat the more rust prone spots with a rattle can. I used the rust encapsulator on the frame and exterior tailgate lip.

Not sure that any of it totally prevents rust but it gives me some peace of mind.

Back in the ‘77 when I bought my ‘75 Grand Prix used, I went to the auto parts to get something like that stuff but I came to the conclusion I couldn’t apply it well enough to satisfy what I expected so I bit the bullet and took it to Ziebart. Did the same thing when I bought my ‘80 Park Ave. in ‘83. I was never sorry I did that. Those cars had no rust till the day I sold them.

    Looking forward to this!
This movie is being directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick ) and features a lot of cameos by team principals and drivers (I cracked up at the scene in the trailer where Kim Bodina's character flips off Guenther Steiner).
My son and I plan to hit at least two F1 and NASCAR races a year once I retire- and top that off with some BMW and Mercedes-AMG driving events.

First time I have heard of fluid film. So it seems to be just protectant, right? I have been using the rustoleum rust converter stuff myself.

We did on the 74’ Charger and it may have delayed the rust a little bit but not by much. They also so didn’t do a good job, missing places like the trunk lid which rotted out.

These days, YT experts like South Main Auto say that rubberized treatments are the worst thing to use as they hold moisture in against the metal, actually making rust worse.

Thanks, that worked. But it wasn’t a total loss. I clicked on the arrow at the bottom right and I saw about 7 minutes of Rodney Dangerfield on the Johnny Carson show. Those were the good old days. Some of the youngins in here probably don’t know what I’m talking about.

That isn’t even close to the way Ziebart did it back in the late 70’s and early 80’s. I sold my ‘80 Park Ave. in late 1997 and the body/frame were totally solid.

As for you not getting a good job, just like dealerships and garages, not all Ziebart shops are the same. I happened to get a good one.
