Getting the exterior of our house painted next week.

$6500 for 4 colors (body1, body2, trim, and corbel/door). Should be done in 2-3 days.

The house across the street is a 1950s bungalow with wood shake siding with what I’d guess is an 8” or 9” exposure, so it looks a bit dated regardless. But in all the years I’ve been here, it suffered from unfortunate exterior color choices. For a long time, it was painted a fire engine red and for whatever reason that paint would never stick to the wood. They went thru several paint jobs trying to remedy that. After those owners moved out the new owners chose to repaint it in another odd color that looked like a spray tan, a sort or orangey-buff that was at least better than the red but not by much. Last year another new owner did a color change to a deep blue, which actually looks very good. The right color makes a big difference.

I was in the double drive-thru line at Mickey D’s across the street from where one of our poster buddies is rebuilding the Hobby Lobby when I saw two Mavericks side by side. One was a grayish color and the other white. I began wondering if Stickguy was in front of me. The grayish one had an old style plate that was discontinued several years ago so that leaves the white one. Stick, did you get yours at Marchese Ford?

I don't mess with the landscaping or lighting; that's my daughter's bailiwick...

Yeah, the house looks good in the picture that I took from the middle of the street, but up close you can see some of the hail damage from the storm last summer.

Plus, the HOA is sending out notices to homeowners to "freshen up" the exterior, so we thought we'd be proactive and get 'er done before that happens.

(Iet's not go down the "HOA is evil" path, either; I don't mind them, and my interactions have been pretty positive over the years)

I couldn't tell you what the materials are; pretty sure it isn't vinyl.

Not the same colors. Going with a lighter body color and darker trim, this time around. Had to acquire some paint samples from Sherwin Williams so the girls could see it live - the first choice for the corbels and front door didn't work as expected, so we are trying a second color.

I think it’s too late for that.

I might not have to work so cheap now. You see, the last flip is under contract and due to close in about 10 days. My Son shot for the moon on this one and almost got it. All because he’s starting to get a good rep with realtors who want to list our flips. Therefore, I can’t afford to do long distance work for hamburger money anymore.

I see the Town of Colonie Building Department hasn’t changed since my run in with them. To put a card table in front of my farm to sell vegetables took me six months and thousands of dollars. I had to appear at a public hearing along side the big supermarket in that plaza. Their excuse was “well the supermarket had to do it, so do you”.

BTW, that supermarket has an excellent food court inside with very reasonable prices.

Oy. Family in from SF last week, DIL got sick day after arrival. Eventually tested positive for Covid. Followed by granddaughter, wife's daughter and 85 yo mother... And today, my wife.
Symptoms all around are like a bad cold, so all handling well. Although wife's daughter has (again) lost her sense of taste and my wife's heart rate elevates. Which happened with her last bout of Covid, and even worse after the first two Covid shots years ago.

NJ family, who visited for just one night and left on the fourth, have been notified.

I drove SF family to airport Monday, I am banished to the upstairs. Maybe just a plan of wife and mother to get rid of me for a few days?

As for your wife putting you in isolation, I didn’t think you were married that long. Almost a newly wed by most standards.

Our anniversary is next week don’t make me try to calculate that without an abacus and then my birthday the following week. I’ll need the deluxe model for that. Yeah, July is a double whammy for me.

Got our master closet installed today (it came as an empty shell). What a relief. Now can finally start unpacking some of the boxes piled up in our bedroom.

Those are nice, although a bit pricey, and from what I hear from realtors, when folks buy a more upscale house these days, that is a very much sought out extra.

The master bedroom closet of the house we live in now is too small for one of those. However, the house we built in SC in ‘92 was plenty big enough for that but it wasn’t a thing back then. IIRC, the closet was something like 9 x 9 (more like a room if you ask me) so the builder build racks on each side of the double high clothes rods on each side of the room and a few low shelves on the back wall. I wasn’t used to a closet like that and for about the first week or two, I could have used a map to help me find my way out. Mrs. j thought it was great and still wishes she had a closet like that. And I’m sure Mrs. @stickguy would never want to part with it.

Do me a favor and don’t ask us over to see your new house because Mrs. j might never want to leave and when she finally did, I’d be in big trouble.

A few months ago my wife came home upset because she lost the diamond in her engagement ring.
It could have been anywhere, so we figured it was lost.
About a week alter, my Son In Law decided to vaccum his kid's carseats with a hand held vaccum.
He heard something solid get picked up and when he opened up the vaccum, there was the diamond!
My wife had it reset and picked it up today.
She also had to report for jury duty today but didn't get picked and was allowed to leave.
Needless to say, she's very happy.

I still have bad memories of jury calls.

Last one I had to work not to get picked to be seated in the box. I was ready to
ask to approach the bench and tell them that I felt the criminal was guilty based
on his behavior during jury selection. I was watching his body language. He fit
right in the mold.

It also was a case with FBI involvement as I recall. Involved a robbery that
was high profile in the media of the time.

I didn't think the judge and lawyers would want me to speak out in front of the
other jurors and potential jurors that that was the reason I didn't want to be
on the jury.

I actually enjoyed my 10 days on a jury. Auto theft ring found guilty on 3 of 5 counts. Judge took the jury to lunch after and noted we had gotten it exactly right, legally. Of course, he was guilty of all 5, but not that we could vote yes legally.
He was stoic the entire trial, verdict didn't seem to faze him. And my company didn't take my jury pay away from me!

Your wife is very lucky that the diamond was found, rarely does that happen. Son #1’s wife lost her diamond after about 6 years of marriage. But Mrs. j was lucky too when Son #1 was about 8 or 9 months old.

On Sunday nights the family (me and my two brothers and their wives) always went over to my parents house for dinner. The girls cleared off the table but before they cleaned it my Son did something while sitting in his high chair and the girls started laughing. I guess he thought that was funny so whatever he did he did it again. They encouraged him to do it again and again and they clapped when he responded. After that Mrs. j got a wet cloth and was wiping off the table cloth when she yelled out, “oh, oh, we better check the glasses, I just found a piece of glass”. Sure enough from clapping she knocked the stone out of her engagement ring. It’s pear shaped so the top side is pretty flat. It looked just like a sliver of glass until you rotated it.

The next day she took it to a jeweler we knew and he said he’d put another clip on the ring to hold the stone. Picked it up a few days later and no more problems after that. Just like with your wife’s ring dumb luck happened.

My wife lost the diamond in one earring. Never found it.

Jury duty.. 48 years as an adult, and never been called. In 1998, my wife was on jury duty in one county, but we moved to another county, and the next year, she got called again, and was elected foreperson of the Grand jury. To her credit, she never would discuss the cases with me, until the grand jury session was over.

I've gotten summons for jury duty a handful of times, mostly at the county level. Number never came up, so I didn't have to wait at the courthouse (er, "justice center").

Got a notice for federal jury duty one time --- this was about the time that Terry McNichols was scheduled to go on trial, in Denver, for his participation in the OKC bombing.

THAT would have been interesting.

I got called for jury duty twice but didn't serve either time.
First was a medical malpractice case. The guy looked ok to me, so I wouldn't have given him much if anything. Just happened to see that he was awarded $8 million.
The other was a child molestation case. I remember thinking, just give us axes to take care of it.
I'm pretty sure the charges were dismissed.

I’ve been summoned three times. The first time I got excused, since I have a French surname they hoped I spoke French since the trial was being conducted in that language. I told them I only spoke English, they said au revoir. The second time was about 15 years ago. I was advising the provincial Minister of Finance in the Legislature for that week or two and without me there were no answers available to her to answer questions from opposing members. I was summoned up to the judge’s bench and had a quiet conversation with him about the circumstances and I was needed in the Legislature. He agreed, but I was unimpressed when he gave a lengthy account of who I was and why I was being exempted to the assembled masses. I got lots of stares on my way out, along lines of “who is this guy?”. The last time was a couple of years ago when I had just gotten out of the hospital so my MD got me exempted.

I believe in Ohio, if you are interested in being on a jury you can ask the jury office to be sure your name is in the currently active pool from which they choose jurors. At least it raises your chances above the driver license + county voter lists. KY may be different.

I finally asked my NPR/doctor to sign a form to have me removed from the pool. I had been called many times but never had to report in the cattle call for that two week term. I was tired of it and wanted off the list.

Never called for grand jury. Only county and municipal area courts that are part of the county system.

I firmly believe people should serve who are healthy and aware of the Constitution.

Closer is by the same guy that did our last o e. This closet is actually slightly smaller but pretty close. I have no more than 1/4 of it. Maybe less. And she is already complaining she is out of room. I nicely pointed out that the problem was she has way too many clothes and is overdue for. Purge. The solution of course is to put her overflow hanging stuff in a guest room closet since we don’t use that for anything. But I will push her to finally do a betting culling out.

Summoned a few times, served once on a case that involved a municipal employee who misappropriated funds with a government issued credit card. Pretty sure my occupation had something to do with getting picked on that one.

My wife lost the diamond in her engagement ring 6 weeks ago. It’s long gone though. I had the setting repaired and used it as an opportunity upgrade the diamond. Was not and am not amused.

Unfortunately, that’s exactly who lawyers don’t want serving on most juries. Some of the comments I’ve heard in the corridors while waiting for jury selection to start makes me wonder how anyone ever gets a fair trial particularly in emotionally charged cases tried by the press.

My wife said that when the first group was brought in for voir dire, one of the jury candidates had disappeared. Could not be found in the courthouse although they had originally checked in.
