It is ignorant to make assumptions. I have read articles and have heard from owners.
If they are so wonderful why aren't people buying them? US EV sales have increased every year
Why do the people I talk to say they aren't interested? Those are the people you know.
Why do they lose 40% of their expected mileage in extremely cold weather? Big exaggeration.
Why are school buses in Alberta Canada not able to complete their routes on a single charge as they were told they would do.....they didn't mention the drain cold weather causes. No clue, I don’t live there.
How will people who live in homes or apartments without garages or with old wiring charge their cars at home? They will use public chargers. I live in a condo with 120 v wiring in my garage and I’m fine.
Using the old I know what I am talking about and you don't know what you are talking about is not a discussion.
I think there are many pros and cons to both ICE and EVs. You don’t find them a good buy. Me, I like the ease of driving an EV. We started with a PHEV and found out how much we prefer the EV driving experience. And the positives get better every year. Throwing out misleading info isn’t a discussion either. Let’s just talk about the vehicles we like!

I think we're likely to start with a PHEV as well, perhaps as soon as September when the truck's lease is up. A Grand Cherokee 4xe would be at the top of that PHEV wish list.

I was reading something that gave me pause recently. It was saying that a PHEV was likely to be more troublesome than an ICE vehicle, an EV, or a regular hybrid, due the complexity involved in engineering and manufacturing a PHEV.

But the point we're making is that I can drive every day to/from work, run errands, etc. and plug in each night at home and start the next day with a "full tank".

With your ICE car, at the end of the week you have to find a gas station and fill up.

Oh, and the cost of your "fuel" just shows up on your monthly utility bill.
The problem is that plugging in your batteries each night will degrade your batteries faster, that is why they recommend running that batteries down to 20% or less before recharging. Also charging batteries past 85% will also degrade your batteries faster.

That doesn't happen with a gas tank.
But up north your gas tank can rust out.😂

Our Chevy Volt was flawless for the 8 years we had it. I guess you have to look at the track record of the model, just like any other vehicle.

Just before 9PM last night my phone explodes with the ear-piercing emergency alert tone from our government that is always bad for peace of mind. What could it be, a crazed killer on the loose, incoming missiles, a massive flood? No. It was our municipal water utility which had a massive oopsie moment over the long weekend here and let their chlorination systems fail for a period of time. Drinking water for much of the city is hence deemed unsafe and they issued a boil water advisory for at least 48 hours. Thankfully for me I am on a different system that did not fail, but the majority of citizens are out of luck until Wednesday. Naturally a lot of people are freaking out although it sounds like one of those things where they discovered the problem fairly quickly and resolved it, but are in their "abundance of caution" mode now. Talk about "you had one job"... :#

Hopefully this will scuttle their announced plans to build a massive, shiny new head office campus at over $100 million.

If you can hardwire any of the nodes it works even better. My main floor and basement are hardwired and the performance is exceptional. Upstairs I put in the closet location to the downstairs node and it works well but not quite the speeds I see on the hardwired ones

I’m going to get. Mesh when we move. When I can finally get internet run in! Those appointments are way backed up.

We do have some hard wired spots. TV over fireplace will be. One in the office where the router will go. Possibly one upstairs. But I had an Ethernet extension run so I can plug in my laptop upstairs into the router downstairs.

Had to update my fiber optics internet/TV boxes, last week. Same carrier.

The fiber has come into the house, and then uses my internal coax cable to transmit the signals to the TV. Of course, streaming services were still through WiFi.

Now, all the set-top boxes are wireless. They still connect the coax to the modem, but everything else is WiFi, and it appears the set-top boxes are TiVo. No more coax, and you can put the TV anywhere you want. Just have to have an electrical outlet.

(I know this doesn't mean much, except to cable TV package subscribers)

I have a Deco as well (forget which one) but we have 3 nodes, one on each floor. Basement is hardwired and the first and second floor are not. It was easy to setup and I can manage devices and the network via an app on my phone.

So Kearny Mesa VW Service Dept gets a -10 today (yesterday). Returns my wife's Tiguan and it glitches in the parking lot. They say it's fine, after restarting it cleared whatever codes it threw apparently (not sure if they scanned it though, wasn't the one driving it as I was driving the S4 home).

Then my wife breaks down twice on the way home, the second time very close to home and she decides she's not driving it anymore with EPC and check engine and possibly other electrical gremlins happening (and it has a brand new battery). I call VW Roadside assistance, and they say it's not covered. Is it possible VW gave a super long 2019 warranty but not roadside assistance to match????? 50/50; not sure... call Triple A. They come fast (got lucky). towed it back to the dealership; this blame goes to the service department, not VW. When we took it there, it ran perfect except for a very slow leaking water pump. She got new wipers too. Needs rear brakes but were not doing that at the stealership. Pure MS will do that. Dealerships can really make even being covered by warranty suck!~!~!!!!

Just keep repeating to myself, don't stress out... '19 VW is covered for a long time.... good purchase decision.

IIRC the furthest I went on a tank of gas was a little over 500 miles on the Sonata. Less than 5 of those miles was not on interstate highways.

I went over 450 miles a couple different times with the V70… still had enough left that range anxiety wasn’t a factor, and calculated mpg at 29 once and 31 the other time. The latter was mostly NC 12 and the US highways between Raleigh and the OBX, very flat with lots of 55-65 mph speed limits.

When I changed my cable this time last year that exactly what I got. Four Eero wireless thingies, TiVo cable boxes, only coax connection now is to the modem. I’m not a huge fan of the TiVo cable interface, but it has some nice features also. I like being able to go back 30 minutes on any show you’re watching, and being able to go back to shows you missed earlier and watch from the start.

Question on tv sound bar. I want to get
One for this house. We bought the tv 2 years ago but did not have space for one. I think we have a Samsung tv. Any recommendations? Tv mounting above fireplace so speaker would likely sit on the mantle so needs to be thin. I assume it would just have an hdmi to plug into tv? And what about a small sub, are those wireless now?

I am way out of date on this stuff. I’m still in receiver and tower speakers for audio, and listening to tv with the built in speaker!

I'm in the dark ages, like you. One thing I did do was get a Samsung sound bar, to go with my Samsung TV in the family room, that connects through bluetooth. No wires. You can put it anywhere.

If you turn off the sound bar the sound reverts to the TV.

I had a Polk Audio soundbar that was really nice, but eventually, the software was too old to work with newer TVs.

I got the cheap Samsung sound bar with wireless subwoofer, because I have a Samsung TV. No connectivity issues, it's cheap, and the sound is decent. Not home theater quality, of course, but good enough.

I got a Sony soundbar a few years ago when I had to use up some points before they expired. It's OK I guess compared to the TV's speakers though it is not life-changing. It connects to the TV via a HDMI cable from the HDMI ARC port. Maybe others are wireless now. The sub is wireless IIRC. For reasons known only to someone else, just the last couple of days it stopped being turned on automatically when I turned on the TV. I have to figure out why. The one issue I have had occasionally is that the sound and picture sometimes seems to get out of sync. I don't know why. Turning the TV off and then turning it on again usually fixes it.

We also have Samsung. We got a thin horizontal Samsung sound bar that mounts on the wall right beneath the TV. Looks and sounds great. It also has a separate subwoofer that sets on the floor in the corner. We have a very small condo, so we don’t need a lot to have good sound. We are very happy with it. Best Buy set it up for us, I know they have a bad rep in some areas but our particular store is very good. I think it’s 3 years old now with no problems.

My son has an older Klipsch soundbar; it sounds fine. The newer Klipsch soundbars aren't cheap, but they are worth it. And of course a sub is mandatory. Some of the higher-end Sonos and Sony soundbars are also very good. I usually say to count on spending around $400 at a minimum to get a setup that is listenable, but at a dirt-cheap $222 the Klipsch Cinema 400 is a more than decent option- and it even includes an 8" sub. I believe that it's being discontinued to make room for a new range of soundbars so I don't know how much longer it will be available.

I borrowed son/dil's cast off sound bar for my new samsung smart TV. BUT Samsung I have doesn't have Bluetooth so I can't use their old sound bar to see if I want to buy a better one.

In settings my tv has optical digital audio. The HDMI ARC on my set says IN. Guess that means it's input only and doesn't give output to a sound bar?

Open to suggestions for an inexpensive but fair quality soundbar to improve over the two speakers on my 40" Samsung that's in a cabinet in family room. Amazon has a confusing bunch of offerings.

I was reading something that gave me pause recently. It was saying that a PHEV was likely to be more troublesome than an ICE vehicle, an EV, or a regular hybrid, due the complexity involved in engineering and manufacturing a PHEV.

All a PHEV really is is a hybrid with a larger battery and a way to charge it. It can't be to much more complicated than a regular hybrid.

That being said hybrids are more complicated than either an EV or a ICE due to it combining both drives into one.

When you can fill up your ICE at home, let me know.. :o
I don't need or want to fill my gasser at home....I do it when I am going or on the way home. And I don't have to do it as often or for as long.

Well I've been driving now for well over 45 years while spending winters no further south than I 80 driving cars well over 150k miles and I haven't had one gas tank rust out and I don't think I know anyone that it happened to.

I wouldn't assume that the HDMI for sound won't work. Plug it into the HDMI 2 (ARC) and see. Unless the old sound bar doesn't have an HDMI interface?

If it doesn't, use your optical output. If the old sound bar doesn't have optical input, then it's pretty useless.

The sound bar only has bluetooth, red and white RCA type inputs, and a line in jack.
Older version of a currentlly sold model by Xtreme.

My problems i the TV volume is too soft when using input from cable TV box (Technicolor brand) used by Spectrum cable tv through HDMI. I've tried both HDMI ARC and HDMI 1 as inputs.

Input from streaming, Samsung TV+, is louder than from the cable.

    I need a soundbar.

When you can fill up your ICE at home, let me know.. :o
I don't need or want to fill my gasser at home....I do it when I am going or on the way home. And I don't have to do it as often or for as long.

Well I've been driving now for well over 45 years while spending winters no further south than I 80 driving cars well over 150k miles and I haven't had one gas tank rust out and I don't think I know anyone that it happened to.

Oh contraire’ mon frere. I had the tank rust out on the 2009 PT Cruiser and I had an 1981 dual tank F-150 where the front tank rusted out. They normally rust out on the top where the salt collects.

How do you play 8 or A-Track tapes on a sound bar?

    How about cassettes?

For that matter, how about CD's?

I borrowed son/dil's cast off sound bar for my new samsung smart TV. BUT Samsung I have doesn't have Bluetooth so I can't use their old sound bar to see if I want to buy a better one.

In settings my tv has optical digital audio. The HDMI ARC on my set says IN. Guess that means it's input only and doesn't give output to a sound bar?

Open to suggestions for an inexpensive but fair quality soundbar to improve over the two speakers on my 40" Samsung that's in a cabinet in family room. Amazon has a confusing bunch of offerings.

My Plasma TV is getting old. Might be time to pre-emptively make a change. 65" rather than the current 60" might be nice too. They don't make 60 anymore and I think 70 would be too big for the room.

My 50" 2008 Kuro Elite is still performing brilliantly. I moved it downstairs to my cheap and dirty 5.1 hts. Upstairs I replaced it with a 75" Sony LED and I'm very happy with it. It's part of a good 7.1 system; I haven't decided whether to get a newer HTR and add ATMOS speakers but I'm in no hurry.

The TV has L/R audio out jacks that you could plug into the soundbar. Might be worth a try.

That’s because you don’t have to drive junk like I did. The PT was particularly disappointing since it had less than 50k miles on it at the time. At least with the pickup I knew it was junk when I bought it as a donor vehicle to fix my other F-150.

I was surprised when you said the 2009 P.T. Cruiser had a rusted out gas tank. There are much older cars around that don't have a rusted gas tank.

I bought my ‘77 LeMans used in 1982 with about 30K miles. Good car but not good materials quality. In 1985 I discovered a gas leak if I filled the tank. The leak was somewhere up top. For the rest of the time I had it, I never filled it up.
