The same time my wife was looking at it another salesperson was selling it...Going to tough to find that same color combination in a low miles lease return...

Thinking back to my recent posts about the general attitudes toward certain car companies, I recall I was mocked recently for pointing out that some brands were able to use "silent recalls" to fix
things, sometimes without even the owner knowing there was something dangerous involved. All of that helps the image of the brand of course. That is precisely what Kia consented to having done.
And this is easier to do with the cars that sell in smaller numbers like special cars or expensive cars. People
are so careful about their special cars they can be convinced they have to have everything done at the dealer store, especially under warranty, and so many "little" problems can be fixed silently.

Indeed. This is a company that has been found to lie about its horsepower ratings, lie about its MPG ratings, and has been widely rumored to use paid agents to influence opinion by posting false positive reviews in places like this. Why would anyone trust them???

That may be true...may not be. I would like to see some proof of those accusations before more urban myths are passed along.....such as the one's about high depreciation for Hyundai and Kia.
Also, car companies may have silent recalls, but, I am sure GM has had more than their fair share of them too. It makes sense if there is something that isn't life threatenning that has to be done to the car to do it when it is being serviced.
I took the 535 in for an oil change and they told me they had to change a part or make an adjustment, that the car would be tied up for an extra 20 minutes if that was OK with me. Better than booking another appointment.
While I can't speak for the brand as a whole, my son had an Elantra that served him well, for well over 100K miles. I will say that the dealership's service dept was not very interested in doing the work that was actually called for on a couple of recalls. When I quizzed them, they always said that they were doing EXACTLY what Hyundai told them to do.
One was a recall on the front suspension. Pretty serious recall. They had to remove some of the components that were not on the recall to replace the components that WERE on the recall. They tried to charge my son for that.
After more than a few nasty phone calls to Hyundai corporate, we got it fixed But, boy did they give me grief.
I liked the cheap Hyundai for my son's school years. I think I paid less than $10K for a brand new car with 5 year bumper to bumper and 10 year drivetrain warranty (although it was a fight to get warranty work done sometimes...customer service was not high on Hyundai's list).
But, $40K-$50K-$60K? Not going there.
Anyone who owns a Hyundai, this is not a disparaging post about your choice in vehicles or of you personally. It's just my experience.
mako1a's 2003 Mustang got me wondering if the Stang was one of those cars that always commands crazy money used like Jeep Wranglers. Evidently so: http://albany.craigslist.org/cto/4609132340.html
Is this typical or do some sellers love their cars more than they should?
2019 Kia Soul+, 2015 Mustang GT, 2013 Ford F-150, 2000 Chrysler Sebring convertible
Asking prices are just the seller's First Amendment Rights--it might have nothing to do with reality at all. In this case, I suspect the seller wants a premium price for the extra goodies that he put in
So the car is worth $3000 and he wants another $2K for the goodies--even if we allow him 50% depreciation, seems like he's a bit high by a thousand or perhaps more.
"Also, car companies may have silent recalls, but, I am sure GM has had more than their fair share of them too. It makes sense if there is something that isn't life threatenning that has to be done to the car to do it when it is being serviced."
I "have heard" of what ab348 calls SILENT RECALLS which are actually "service bulletins" in the automobile vernacular. They are non-emergency inspections and, if necessary, repairs to a brand's vehicles. When I owned Ford and GM cars, I remember the inspections and repairs were carried out and being informed about it after the fact - not before. I have not experienced these since I've owned German cars, but I usually don't keep them long enough for oil changes, let alone alignments or other maintenance items with the exception of my current car which I will keep until Nov., 2015.
As far as the make of cars ab348 referred to, they have, in fact, been cited for knowingly concealing factual data regarding their fuel economy ratings and horsepower ratings.
I FORGOT HOW HOT IT GETS OUT HERE!!!
I am sitting in my son's doctor's office waiting to be seen with him. Yesterday, it hit 105 degrees in La Quinta. This morning, it was 98 degrees when we left for Loma Linda with an expected high of 106 degrees this afternoon. No clouds, no humidity - just an oven is about the closest analogy I can think of.
Air conditioning is not a luxury out here - it's a necessity. If you want to play golf on one of the 55+ golf courses, you have to tee off at sunrise or suffer the consequences. It's been 15 years since I lived out here and I now remember why I took my vacations in Seattle and. Victoria during the summers.
Oops, we were just asked to go into the doctor's office. See ya!

And just when I was considering putting the Genesis coupe back on my short list of old-age crisis cars. I guess jmonroe's Hyundai horror story was not isolated.

Evidently so:

Is this typical or do some sellers love their cars more than they should?

Asking prices are just the seller's First Amendment Rights--it might have nothing to do with reality at all. In this case, I suspect the seller wants a premium price for the extra goodies that he put in
So the car is worth $3000 and he wants another $2K for the goodies--even if we allow him 50% depreciation, seems like he's a bit high by a thousand or perhaps more.

See ya!

Just I here after a long absence. Still trying to catch up on medical issues. Have an appointment at Sloan Kettering Monday which might or might not explain the weird platelet activity.
Richard - so sorry to hear about your BIL. I tell people all the time to have the world be a better place for having you in it. Sounds like he had that way more than covered.
