@driver100 - looks like we are going to miss each other by a couple of weeks. I'm taking my family to Disney World at the end of July.
That's snake that you will just miss....I am around there from November to April, when it isn't like a sauna....though we used to have sales meetings there in May - needed about 6 showers a day.
The one thing I remember about Orlando when I was based there was that there was seldom any wind in summer, except during the daily thunderstorm sometimes. At least the coast have a little breeze going for them.
Aba - you're whining too much about the weather. Your need to spend a little time back in Chicago

Sorry about the whining. I have to do something to take my mind off my health issues. Having an MRI Friday morning - gastroenterologist said the CT-Scan did not provide him with sufficient info to determine next step.
My kidneys are not working as well as they should because of all these dyes they use for contrast for these tests. What I need is a new body!
...or a new chassis!
Just kidding around with you on the weather. Thought Chicago might bring back some "climate memories"
Chicago climate memories were mostly "cold" and "snowy"! Summers were almost as bad as they are here in FL. I remember all the tornado warnings in the Chicago area, but I had to move to FL to experience a tornado.

Friendly suggestion: If you haven't done so already get the 'Fast Pass' or what ever they are calling it when you visit Disney. Expensive yes, but it made a world (sorry, pun not intended) of difference when we visited. I wish we had done the same for Carowinds. My daughter and I went a couple of weekends ago. We were there for over 4 hours and only got to ride 2 rides. They were great, however, The Fury and the Intimidator. I am still young at heart.

It's mileage is relatively low. 76,500 and change. My wife's commute is less than 3 miles each way. I'm looking forward to having one payment for the foreseeable future. $678.66 per month is a nice chunk of change to put away. I'm going to resume making ROTH IRA contributions which I haven't done in a number of years. I'm going to keep some liquid and use some to pay more towards the Legacy every month. I plan to keep it for at least another 5 years. Maybe more.

15K a year is "relatively low"? With a 3 mile commute? How many road trips have you taken with it?

Congrats on the final payment. That always feels so good. Our '10 Pilot is at 87k and the wife says it is a keeper. Other than some parking lot nicks and dings, a new ding near the rear wheel opening just this week, grrr, it looks nice. Be careful of the CCBA bug. It bites sometimes!

I upgraded one of my machines some time ago and am still resisting the on the other one. W10 seems to have settled down on the one machine now after a period of months where it was very finicky. But I still haven't warmed up to it. Do not like the changes to the interface.
@Michaell - she didn't always have this close commute.
When we 1st moved to CT in 2010, she worked for a few home care agencies. She would drive to different people's homes to give them Phyisical Therapy. Then she got a job at an assured living facility about 20 miles north of our house. I'll look up the official numbers when I get home later, but she averaged about 18K per year for the 1st 2 years. Then she started working in Stamford where we live and eventually got her job at the Hospital she works at now.
We have taken a few road trips with it. CT to Cape Cod, CT to Pittsburgh, CT to Southern NH, CT to Charlotte, CT to Saint Simmons Island GA. So road trips do add to our yearly total.

Backup cams will be mandatory by 2018 and it seems like most automakers are already offering them.
Hey, once self-driving cars appear, you won't even need brains!
Just a thought (an evil one), what would happen to a self driving car if some joker threw something over the cameras that watch the road? Would it just stop in the middle of the street? What if some road rager started shooting at the car? Would it take evasive action like a human or would it just calmly cruise along taking lead?

That's weird - I never requested or touched any of the Windows 10 upgrade offers, but the other night left the computer on by accident. next morning the Windows 7 is a Windows 10. Seems to work alright and no files were impacted that I can tell. Windows 10 - don't see all the hype about it. Just seems to have more interfaces and crap included than 7.
A Canadian tourist was fined $135 for putting a Bison calf in his SUV (see, I kept it auto related) to keep it warm while visiting Yellowstone Park.
Such kind folks.
I wonder if driver100 takes gators home with him so they don't get wet feet.
And if it is the same story I read the people were trying to help the Bison Calf, but unfortunately the herd wouldn't take it back because it had been with humans.
No, I have no desire to save or help an alligator. When we went on a sight seeing tour of Myakka Lake the guide said alligators rarely attack humans. Since they can't chew food they don't go after anything that is too big to just gulp down....unless they are starving. And, that rarely happens because they can slow down their metabolism and store food for about 4 months.

That is such a sad story and a lesson to people not to interfere with wildlife. The calf -- perfectly healthy otherwise -- had to be euthanized because the herd wouldn't take it back. Same as well meaning idiots here who think fawns are abandoned when actually the mother puts it in a safe place for the day and comes back later for it.
Update on the repairs to my 2006 DTS. The body shop called me, their estimate is about $2.4k, and the car should be ready next Wednesday, so good news on that front.

Actually, that isn't too bad. When they replaced my rear bumper assembly after they put a crease in it at their car wash, it was $2550 which included the replacement bumper and painting + labor. In today's cars, the rear bumper is not just a bumper - the entire assembly wraps around to meet the rear wheel wells which makes it a huge piece. I guess that's why it was so expensive. There was no damage to the car itself, just a couple of dimple creases in the plastic bumper. If you include the front and rear bumper assemblies together on most cars today, it accounts for almost 40% of the vehicle because of that wrap-around feature.
Precisely what did the repair(s) include on your DTS?

While I have you here, I think you are the guy that was looking at used vans, a Town and Country IIRC.
Son#1 has a 2008 T&C that he bought new in 2008. He allowed his wife to talk him into it because of all the goodies it had including 2 rear seat cameras to occupy his 3 sons. He has had more problems with that beast than I could post here. He even had to have the original engine replaced about 3 months after he got it and a transmission when it was about 2 years old. Both were covered under warranty so he didn't lose money because of that. But, like I said he has had way too many nuisance problems with it.
He is now in the market for another van since the T&C has around 180K miles on it and he thinks the transmission is acting up. He realizes that the newer T&C's are probably build better that his '08 but he is not even considering another one this time around. In fact, when someone asks him about his '08 they get an earful with no expletives deleted.
He is now looking at both new and used Honda, Toyota and Kia vans. His take so far is that the Toyota has the most powerful engine but not by much, however, he didn't like the interior. The Honda engine was probably like his '08 T&C but again he did not like the interior. That leaves the Kia, same power as the Honda but the interior was much nicer. Therefore, he is going with the Kia. The only decision is whether to get new or used. He says Kia is offering 0% financing on the new ones so that may tell him which way he will go.
He also said that Kia has some very aggressive pricing going on right now for the '15's in addition to the 0% financing so that is another favorable consideration for the Kia since he liked that van better anyway. He's been looking on the internet and more than likely he will be going out of state to get either new or used since the local dealers don't have the color and trim level that he wants. And get this, he will be giving Fairfax Kia a call. This is part of the dealer group where I got my '15 Genny.
Just thought you might want to hear an impartial review on other vans.

I don't have it in writing, it was a phone conversation. Repair sheet metal right front fender (do they still do that with bondo? I don't have a clue.) Replace passenger side headlight assembly. Replace trim around headlight. And a couple of other things, which I don't remember. He said the headlight assembly was holding them up, as they had to wait for that to come in. No problem for me, as I now have a rental car, and something I was interested in looking closer at (new Town and Country minivan).
I will be looking at it very closely when I go to pick it up.

The problem with used Honda and Toyota minivans is very high resale value. You're better off (in my opinion) just buying a new one. The opposite is true with Chrysler, they sell huge numbers of those to rental fleets, and the used market is flooded with 1 and 2 year old models at really high discounts. Of course, those former rental units (at least the ones I looked at on the Hertz used car lot) were in rather mediocre condition.
Kia is such a small player in the minivan market that I have not seen a single used one for sale. The new ones that I looked at all had a really BIG console, which is a deal breaker for me. And I would be very hesitant to spend $30k on a new Kia minivan, knowing the way Kia's depreciate. High depreciation usually means buy a used one, but if there aren't any used ones ...
Our '09 seems to be one of the good ones (but it's a Grand Caravan, not a T&C). But it's time to retire it too (~170k). Will really miss the Stow n Go seats though.

I have something kinda sorta similar in my F150 crew cab. The bottoms of the back seats fold up, and there is this really huge amount of flat floor space available for carrying things.
I admit I am liking the rental T&C over the last 2 days. I want to take a road trip this weekend, drive for at least an hour straight, see how the seat and the seating position feel after a solid hour or more. My commute to work is only 5.3 miles, so not much of a test. Right now, I can say that I like it as a commute vehicle. But no idea about as a road car.
I've driven some miserable cars, but I think I just found the king of the hill for miserable cars available today.
Just spen two hours driving from Pewaukee, WI to Chicago, IL.....in a Mitsu Lancer. Avis had this, and nothing else. So, being the sport that I am, I didn't raise a fuss (given I'm a President's Club Member), I dutifully headed out on my brief road trip in a Mitsubishi.
I'm trying to think of one redeeming quality. I can't....except to say, it didn't break down.
The floor pan transmitted road noise, on a highway run (no rought road or road debris kicking up under the car). That is a first for me. It could have been made of Pepsi cans for all I know. Closing the doors and the trunk made me realize there's a strange harmonic disorder with the sheet metal. It "thrums". Unnerving!
I have never felt disconnected from the road. Oversteer is an understatement. You sort of see where you want to go, and stab at the steering wheel in the hopes you'll get close to the line you were aiming for. Sometimes it took more than one steering wheels stab to get close.
Brakes....well, the car has them. They take a while to connect, and once they do, they grab like a stubborn mule. No modulating these brakes. You'll get a lot of "headsnapping" with them.
Last (but certianly not least), not sure where the air conditioning compressor was. But, it "banged on" (literally banged) and "off", to the point I thought it would disintegrate.
The cheapness of the materials matched the driving feel of the car....dismal.
What happened to Mitsubishi? I know their current faux pas isn't helping matters. But, they used to design some interesting cars. The EVO, Eclipse, 3000GT, Galant VR4.
Engineering on the monstrosity I just drove is excuse enough for them to shutter their doors.

My Son said the Stow n Go seats of his '08 T&C is the only positive thing he can say about his '08. However, that single positive is not nearly enough for him to consider getting another T&C.
As for depreciation, he keeps his cars long enough that depreciation will not matter to him. I asked him about that and he said, "if I could have lived with this POS T&C as long as I have, I can live with anything".

andres3--thought you might find these interesting. Below is a 71 Audi 100LS Automatic that my mom drove in France from 1975-76. We bought it from a Canadian couple that was moving back to Canada. At the top is my 1986 Audi 4000S that I picked up at a Saturn dealership in 91. The couple bought a Saturn SL-1! If you will note the black Ford Ranger supercab at the top of the picture. I was in the process of taking delivery of the truck (V6, 5speed) when I took this picture. Having bought my first new house I hadto have a truck.
One of my fellow Audi-enthusiast mechanic's that I have used; particularly for performance part upgrades, has an early 80's Audi red Coupe. I got it as a loaner several years ago, remember it being 30 to 32 years old but forget the exact time frame. 30+ year old Audi's are so rare on the road that you can't help but feel cool driving it around, but the reason they are so rare is because probably only Audi mechanic's can afford to keep them running.
It was delicate he said. Also, you had to floor it to get it started (don't worry about flooding the engine he said). Lastly, don't forget to manually turn off the radio when you leave the car or you'll come back to a dead battery!

GG, Good review on the Mitsu. The only one I had as a rental was an Outlander about 6 years ago and I actually liked it...nice size, comfortable, solid, good ride, fair bit of power.
I suppose the Lancer is made to sell at the lowest price possible.......in that market people probably don't care about all the things you noticed....they buy based on price and especially monthly payment.
Too bad, for a bit more money there are much better cars out there....and how do they stay in business?
My wife's MKC ran over a large bolt yesterday. I took it in to the dealer to get it patched. She said the MyLincoln app on her phone posted an alert that a tire was low on pressure an hour or so after I dropped it off.

A Canadian tourist was fined $135 for putting a Bison calf in his SUV (see, I kept it auto related) to keep it warm while visiting Yellowstone Park.
Such kind folks.
I wonder if driver100 takes gators home with him so they don't get wet feet.

Same as well meaning idiots here who think fawns are abandoned when actually the mother puts it in a safe place for the day and comes back later for it.

I will be looking at it very closely when I go to pick it up.

Edmunds really likes their Sedona long term tester.

Although with a high mile '09 minivan, I pretty much am okay with cutting anyone off .

It was delicate he said. Also, you had to floor it to get it started (don't worry about flooding the engine he said). Lastly, don't forget to manually turn off the radio when you leave the car or you'll come back to a dead battery!
I suppose the Lancer is made to sell at the lowest price possible.......in that market people probably don't care about all the things you noticed....they buy based on price and especially monthly payment.
Too bad, for a bit more money there are much better cars out there....and how do they stay in business?

I took it in to the dealer to get it patched.
She said the MyLincoln app on her phone posted an alert that a tire was low on pressure an hour or so after I dropped it off.
