I have really become lazy when it comes to waxing our cars. The 2003 CRV we gave our son last year has usually been garaged and I think I maybe waxed it three times since it was new. Modern cars have clearcoat finishes that have just about done away with the need for constant waxing. After a wash, the 14 year old CRV sparkles like it did when new.
Does anyone remember Blue Coral? Now, THAT was an ALL DAY assignment but the results always looked great! A local Detail Shop used to charge 40.00 and they would throw about four " Jesus" type guys on it and it took the better part of the day!
Yes I remember Blue Coral.
I used it one time and never again. It wasn't worth all the work as far as I was concerned. They marketed that product very well. It seems like every one I worked with used it and all of us felt the same way.

Woke up this morning to ice pellets tinkling against the windows until around 9AM, at which time it changed over to snow and it is still snowing. This is ridiculous, about 6" of heavy wet snow down so far. Tomorrow is supposed to be more of the same but not such steady snowfall. But they are saying wind gusts to 40mph are possible. Just awful for 10 days into Spring.

Thanks JM. The frustration is that the surgeon who worked on me in 2009 said that given the hard time I had after that, my valve be replaced using a TAVR procedure where they snake the new valve up through an artery via the groin instead of opening you up. So today I met with the surgeon who does that and she's not so sure about doing that given my history. So it looks like we start the whole process again from the top with new tests, etc. What fun.
The only funny part of the day was when the surgeon, an attractive lady of maybe 35 or so, called me "a young man". Wish other 35 year old women I meet would call me that.
Calling you "young man" is good. How would you like it when they call you Dad? Like when one youngin said to me, "hey Dad, put your feet up here". The only thing worse would have been, "hey grandpa..." :@
jmonroe
I wonder if they call me "Sir". Is that a show of respect or because they think I am a lot older?
Maybe they think you're a general.
The day a young woman held a door open for me was the day I knew I was old.
I held the door open at our tennis bubble for two, quite a bit younger than me women, They took the door out of my hands and told me they were quite capable of opening their own door. :@
That made me feel old and out of touch with the younger generation.
No, they were just rude.

I still remember the first senior discount I ever got. Drive thru window at a Hardy's. I told the young lady she had given me back too much change. I was dumbfounded when she smiled and said, no sir, just your senior discount. I was in my fifties and still thought I was viewed as a threat to the honor of every woman I met. Harsh reality.

That's the main reason I got rid of the Escape I had, with the 1.6 liter engine, after 6 months. The other reason was I found out I'm not an SUV guy.
My Fusion may have the door latch thingy - I don't know. I haven't been contacted.
I do have a letter here saying the seatbelt pre-tensioner cables may separate during a deployment and may not adequately restrain the occupant in a crash. I got that notice January 18th, but parts are not available yet. It doesn't say anything about not driving it or not having a crash until it gets fixed.
@graphicguy. Congrats on the hard earned win GG. Stinks you had to be put thru all of that. But, well done in fighting the good fight...and you didn't even need jmonroes left hook either.
Correction: It's not my left hook. I'm the one trying to keep my jaw out reach of Mrs. j's quick left hook. MY left hook wouldn't hurt a flea but you gotta watch my right cross. I'm also pretty good at throwing weights around.

I think it was JM who mentioned it's not quite over. I haven't seen a check, yet. They have 30 days from the decision to comply IF all the paperwork is done correctly (and there was plenty). I've done my part. But, if there's one small item not exactly the way it was supposed to be filled out, they consider that a reason to skuttle the repurchase/refund agreement.
I wasn't questioning that it is over. I trust you didn't cross and I or dot a 'T'. What I was trying to say is that once you get the check and it clears, I wouldn't want to drive the Caddy back to the dealership and take the chance of being in a fender bender because of the mess that would create.
Once everything is in order on your end, I have to believe that the dealer will be more than willing to come and get THEIR car.
If you want to get everybody in here all crank up again all you have to do is tell us there was a paper glitch.

"DETROIT - Ford is recalling more than 570,000 vehicles in North America and Europe to fix separate problems that can cause engine fires and doors to fly open unexpectedly."
Did you get rid of the Escape after 6 months because of the possible fire hazard? Did you know it was a problem back then?
Cars that could catch on fire from the engine overheating and door latches that could spring open......I know cars are recalled all the time but these seem to be fairly routine engineering things that should be designed right from the beginning.....does it make anyone question their confidence in the brand?
Enjoyed the 6-hour drive back from Pigeon Forge listening to XM. I have found more of the stations that suit my taste part of the time, Groove, The Hits, 60's, SoulTown, and Love. I switch between them like a teenager in the 60s who just got a car radio with those new-fangled push buttons and he loves being able to switch by pushing one. I have heard songs I forgot existed from well known, good singers.

Ok, first a verse from a 60's song. This was done by a VERY popular group that still tours today.
" The door handles are off but you know I'll never miss them"
Question one.
Why won't they be missed? In the next verse.
Who did the song and what was the name of the song?
Another hint....never made the top 40 but was on an album and it got radio play at least in So, California.

The door handles won't be missed because the car is used on a race/drag track. The doors might even be welded shut. So, the driver climbs in through the widow opening.

As we have said before all cars can have recalls but some manufactures seem to make a living or should I say a killing out of it. Now I have to send the link about the Ford engine and doors flying open problems to Son #2 who last Fall bought a cream puff 2014 Fusion, (or maybe it was a 2015, I can't remember now), with less than 8K miles on it.
I even had a recall on Mrs. j's 2012 Subie Legacy about 6 months ago that had to have the windshield wiper motor housing cover replaced because the original could allow debris to accumulate in the bottom of it and POSSIBLY cause a fire due to the wet build-up.
So, it seems, we buy a car and then have to hold our breath.

The wife's Outback has been to the dealer twice for recall work - once on the electronic parking brake, the other for a starter issue.
Does this mean that Subaru makes poor cars? Nope - wife still loves hers.
I think I've said it before but recalls are generally pro-active; at least from companies willing to admit to an issue. Seems to be more common nowadays as the government seems to have successfully gotten automakers to comply more quickly with recalls.
I have scheduled most of my recalls to coincide with an oil change or some other little quirk (like seat trim). No hassle to me as I can schedule the visit and it doesn't ground my car (at least none that I've had yet). Now some recalls do tell you "cease driving the car." Those are serious.
What irks me is when you have unscheduled repairs.
My current situation is exactly that. I figured I'd have the car back Tuesday, now it's Thursday and still no idea when they'll be done. On the negative side, this reminds me why I like reliable hassle-free cars (like my S4 was).
On the positive side, I always felt my S4 cheated me on free loaners, since I almost never needed one for 48,000 miles.

I have a recall open on the Hyundai (not sure if it can be done yet, or still waiting on a fix). Pano roof can in theory pop at the front if it jams, and fly off. That could get messy. Next time I go for regular service (only 1 more time before it goes back!) then can fix it if they want. But no special trip.
last oil change, they determined it had another recall (though I don't remember getting a notice, maybe it was a TSB). Some silly thing where the gas lid might not pop open, so replaced a part there.
The Acura, that has been stellar. Only recall in 5 years was the Takata airbags. Need to remember to ask them about that. I always forget, and service people never bring it up!
Well gee, Southern California + Cars can only be the Beach Boys. Can't think of the name of that song though--I do remember it...vaguely.....not one of their smash hits, obviously, but probably helped to fill a smash album or the flip side of a single. I give up. My head hurts now.
I didn't recognize the lyrics and the song is obscure. I have a fair amount of Beach Boys, but not this one. There were a lot of car songs back in the 62-64 timeframe. Jan & Dean, Rip Chords, Ronnie & the Daytona's...
This one is on the Beach Boys "Little Deuce Coupe" LP which I don't have. The song Little Deuce Coupe itself is on several of their albums. I'll leave the actual song title we're looking for up to someone else.
"Door handles are off but you know I'll never miss 'em They open when I want with the "cellunoid" system"
LOL!
You're right about the lyrics. Only the Beach Boys could get away with something like that on an album.
If a CD were sold today with something that bad the recording company would be sending out a recall notice to have it sent back to be scrubbed or the buyer gets a partial refund (their choice).

Geez JM. So many issues with this.
First, they don't sell CDs any more. Hardly, at least. It is all digitally streamed or stolen now.
Second: have you heard any recent pop music? The lyrics to "Cherry Cherry Coupe" would be considered Shakespearean by comparison.
I wonder if Cherry Cherry Coupe was a B Side on the original Little Deuce Coupe 45? It sure has the sound of one. I sold my LP's and 45's a few years back. Just didn't have the storage room anymore. But I could see if someone had a nice red coupe back in 63 that they might take to it. Speaking of Little Deuce Coupe, Jan & Dean also recorded that song, but it was written by Brian Wilson. Jan & Dean actually preceded the Beach Boys by a bit and taught Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys some studio tricks and recording effects. They became friends and would sometimes trade stuff back and forth. Seemed like after doo-wop, California rock and east coast falsetto like the Four Seasons. along with Phul Spector's Wall of Sound females took over for a short time. But then Motown and the British Invasion interrupted that run. Cool stuff and it really goes with the whole car and drive-in thing back in those days.
A lot of today's pop music is country pop since current rock seems to have a lot of either rap or whining in it. But every generation is entitled to their own thing I guess.
"Door handles are off but you know I'll never miss 'em They open when I want with the "cellunoid" system"
LOL!
Less than 2 minutes and I can see why it was and remains in obscurity. Strictly a guys song, must have been made to complete an album or fulfill a contract.
I was thinking about recalls and how that affects buyers.......does it affect them?
Here is the conclusion I came to, what it really does is just confirms whatever view you had of that particular brand. For example, Andre hates the Big 3 so this gives him a reason not to like them even more. People who hate German cars will take a recall of a German make and confirm in their own mind....that is why I wouldn't buy one of those.
If it is a make you like, then you defend the car....well, the recall is a good thing, at least they fix their problems.
JM and CDs....that is funny. I wonder if he carries a load of CDs in the Gennie?
So, do I give credit for cheating? I THINK that was the flip side of Little Deuce Coupe but maybe not. It does take some of us back to a different time in life as corny as it was. Whitewall slicks? Really?
The new Civic I just bought has no CD player and I'm still trying out how to load music on my IPhone so I can play it through the so called "Media Player" What the heck is "Media" and what ever happened to my 8 track tapes?
Hell, what is a "Cellunoid system"? They didn't even get that right!

On the positive side, I always felt my S4 cheated me on free loaners, since I almost never needed one for 48,000 miles.
last oil change, they determined it had another recall (though I don't remember getting a notice, maybe it was a TSB). Some silly thing where the gas lid might not pop open, so replaced a part there.
The Acura, that has been stellar. Only recall in 5 years was the Takata airbags. Need to remember to ask them about that. I always forget, and service people never bring it up!

I cheated and looked it up. I won't spill the beans.
Never heard the song before.

This one is on the Beach Boys "Little Deuce Coupe" LP which I don't have. The song Little Deuce Coupe itself is on several of their albums. I'll leave the actual song title we're looking for up to someone else.
Lyrics are pretty awful (imo)
"Door handles are off but you know I'll never miss 'em
They open when I want with the "cellunoid" system"
LOL!
If a CD were sold today with something that bad the recording company would be sending out a recall notice to have it sent back to be scrubbed or the buyer gets a partial refund (their choice).

I do have the 1950 Studebaker Blues all worked up. Just have to get past the procrastination and record the darn thing
First, they don't sell CDs any more. Hardly, at least. It is all digitally streamed or stolen now.
Second: have you heard any recent pop music? The lyrics to "Cherry Cherry Coupe" would be considered Shakespearean by comparison.

The new Civic I just bought has no CD player and I'm still trying out how to load music on my IPhone so I can play it through the so called "Media Player" What the heck is "Media" and what ever happened to my 8 track tapes?
Hell, what is a "Cellunoid system"? They didn't even get that right!

Pick up the book "The Revenge of Analog" - really quite the fascinating read.
