Would appreciate feedback on this lease offer I received from my local dealer's internet manager:
2015 C-300 4-Matic base model (only extra option is rear-view camera) MSRP: $41,785 Sales Price: $35,168 36 months / 7,500 miles Down payment: $2,001.82 (includes Acquisition fee of $1,095; first month lease payment; License and all state fees) $354.31 including CA tax.
When I use the Lease Calculator with 0.0136 money factor and of 64%, residual I come up with $346.90 incl. tax. It seems he added a little to the MF. Shouldn't using Auto Pay lower my MF slightly?

I get $318.24+ tax.. You don't mention your tax rate.
Ask for the net CAP cost, and see if it's any different than the selling price. If so, ask why. Also, just ask them for the money factor they are using.
I will say that the acq.fee is marked up by $300 (maximum allowed over the base $795). But, you should look at the deal as a whole... that's a very aggressive selling price.
I would roll the acq.fee into the payment... At $1095, that will add $32/mo.+tax to the payment.
Autopay should lower the MF to .00126, which will save about $7/mo.
By the way, why do you recommend rolling the acquisition fee into the payment? It ends up costing me roughly $165 more in the end than if I pay it up front, doesn't it?

About $55 more... due to finance charges on that amount..
Keeping your upfront to a minimum is a good idea for many reasons, but the best one is it helps you focus on the true monthly cost of the vehicle.
Thanks to all for the great advice and information in this forum. It was a huge help as I negotiated two C300 leases this past weekend. Hi dka, I greatly appreciate you posted the deal you got for the two cars in Los Angeles. It is a huge help. I live in Los Angeles, too, and recently posted the offer I was given by a dealer, which I thought was good. But your deal seems much better, and I would be very grateful to know the dealership you made your deal with. Thank you very much!

Hello DKA, can you please advise the final agreed price on both vehicles? Thank you.
I actually don't know that off-hand. You could probably figure it out roughly using a lease calculator and the MF and residual numbers provided elsewhere in this thread. Tax in LA is high - I think it's about 9%, if not a tad higher.

The cap cost should be on your lease documents.

Thank you for the info. I really appreciate it. I thought the tax rates in NY were high but LA is higher. Lol
I pulled the trigger on the below deal: C300, MSRP: 53515 (includes 2yr/24 maintenance: 750, which MB residualizes) 36/10,000 MF: .00136, I was given Auto Pay discount (which I don’t know how much! I see in other post here said it is .00126) RV: 63% = 33714.45 Sell price: 44497 Aq fees: 795 Dealer fees: 699 Tax: 6.4% (rolled into the lease) Cap cost: 46741 Depreciation: 13026.5 Rent charge: 3649.42 Base payment: 463.22 Tax/payment: 29.64 Total monthly payment: 492.86 Title and upfront cost: 178 Drive off payment: 671.82.
Is it good deal? Have they used .00136 or .00126 MF?

DKA, did the $1,500 incorporate any down payment or taxes upfront or did you just pay the acquisition fee, first months payment, dmv, etc? Looks like you received a very good deal. Thanks

If I use .00126, my pre-tax payment is exactly the same as yours - $463.22/mo.
Looks like a pretty good deal on a car that stickers for $53K.
In reference to mbc15's deal, What's the difference between cap cost and sale price? What fees were rolled into his cap cost? When I added 6.4% tax to his sale price, it doesn't come out to the cap cost. I just want to make sure I understand all these calculations before I negotiate a deal this wkend. Thanks

Acquisition fee, dealer fee, sales tax, license and tags are all items that can be added to the sale price to get to the net cap cost.

No idea. I told them I wanted a $1500 total drive off and negotiated the monthly payment from there. How they ended up structuring it is up to them.
This is an interesting question for everyone though - do you negotiate every individual part of your lease? I intentionally don't. I prefer to focus solely on my cost, and let them structure it however they want. I find it easier to compare prices between dealers this way.

Generally, you want to focus on the selling price, not the payment. Getting the lowest selling price is the best way to obtain the lowest payment.
There are only two variables in a lease - the selling price and the money factor.

True, but should I care whether the dealer makes his profit off the sale price or the money factor? This isn't a rhetorical question - I am genuinely asking.
Every lease I have negotiated I have reduced to one variable - monthly payment. I have told multiple dealers how much I plan to pay as total drive off, how many miles I need, and the length of the lease. This reduces the negotiation to a single number that can easily be compared between dealerships.
dka makes an excellent point in response to Michaell's post, and I would also like to hear thoughts on this.
Michaell states: "Getting the lowest selling price is the best way to obtain the lowest payment. There are only two variables in a lease - the selling price and the money factor".
This is what I have always done, and got good results.
However, dka got two exceptional deals using her own criteria, which seems to contradict the conventional wisdom!

My concern has always been that if I negotiate on price only I will have no way of knowing whether anything else has been marked up until it is too late. Has this ever happened to anyone? Have you negotiated a low sales price only to find out that the MF was being marked up? My fear has always been that a dealership would say that the price is only valid at a higher MF, but perhaps that doesn't actually happen?

I'm not saying alternative methods don't work - if you focus on the payment you want, how do you know it couldn't be lower if you work the selling price and ensure the MF isn't marked up. There are factory to dealer incentives the dealer may not share with you ... you get the payment you want, the dealer keeps more of that incentive money that you could have gotten.

Because I shop the price to multiple dealers in the area. Once I get a price that no other dealer will beat, I assume that is as low as I can get.

2015 C300 4D SDN MSRP: 48,745 Sale Price: 41,900 Taxes: 1839.15 Acq Fee: 795.00 Current year tax, title, registration: 118.50 Processing fee: 399.00 3YR Service: 975.00 Gross Cap Cost: 46026.65 Residual 63% MF: .00126 Monthly (after direct debit discount): 505.00 Zero down, first month payment.
He tried to give me a MF of .00263. I pushed back. He tried to charge a Acq fee of $1095, I pushed back. He also neglected to tell me about the direct debit discount, so he had to print out the lease forms twice after I reminded him to correct it. There was back and forth and he left the room a few times but he didn't put up a lot of fight since he figured out quickly that I was aware of where he was adding margin (thanks to edmunds).
I might have been able to push on the service fee. I didn't know there was wiggle room and it seems like some here people paid less. But I got the price and monthly payments I was looking for. So I walked away happy.
I also live in PA and actively working on a deal with my MB dealer. Received a mail offer that includes $3500 off MSRP + $2000 holiday cash for a total of $5,500 off MSRP. Considering the spread of about $3k between MSRP and Invoice, this seems like a good deal. Questions are as follows: 2015 Sport 4matic with base+options+delivery = $49,880.00 Offer letter says 3 year maintenance included. We have 6 payments left on our 2012 that they say are waived. They want $2014 down that includes $795 acquis fee, first pmt and whatever else is in that number. Looking at 36 mos at 12k/mi/year. Their first volley was about $600 per month plus the $2014 down and we of course said NO WAY. Then, they 1/2'd the distance between our current $440 pmt and the $600 and came back at $520.00 which presumably includes taxes. Seems like they are using a higher residual on this lease. Can someone tell me where this fall for a buyer with EXCELLENT credit and factoring the $5,500 off MSRP offer? I feel like this should be about $499/mo with $2k down. Thank you for any input on this.

MF is .00136 and 36/12 residual is 62%.
With an MSRP of $49,880 and a cap cost of $44,380, the pre-tax payment works out to $476.15/mo. So, pretty close to your goal, since I don't know what the tax rate is.

I'd be lost without Edmunds.com!
It ends up costing me roughly $165 more in the end than if I pay it up front, doesn't it?
If I end up getting Prepaid Maintenance, should I roll that into the lease payments, too?
About $55 more... due to finance charges on that amount..
Keeping your upfront to a minimum is a good idea for many reasons, but the best one is it helps you focus on the true monthly cost of the vehicle.

Looks like a pretty good deal on a car that stickers for $53K.

This is an interesting question for everyone though - do you negotiate every individual part of your lease? I intentionally don't. I prefer to focus solely on my cost, and let them structure it however they want. I find it easier to compare prices between dealers this way.
There are only two variables in a lease - the selling price and the money factor.

Every lease I have negotiated I have reduced to one variable - monthly payment. I have told multiple dealers how much I plan to pay as total drive off, how many miles I need, and the length of the lease. This reduces the negotiation to a single number that can easily be compared between dealerships.
Thoughts?
Michaell states:
"Getting the lowest selling price is the best way to obtain the lowest payment.

This is what I have always done, and got good results.
However, dka got two exceptional deals using her own criteria, which seems to contradict the conventional wisdom!
Should that alone be a deal breaker?

2015 C300 4D SDN
MSRP: 48,745

Taxes: 1839.15
Acq Fee: 795.00
Current year tax, title, registration: 118.50
Processing fee: 399.00
3YR Service: 975.00
Gross Cap Cost: 46026.65
Residual 63%
MF: .00126
Monthly (after direct debit discount): 505.00
Zero down, first month payment.
I feel like I got a good deal. Thoughts?
2015 C300 4matic
36 months, 10K per year lease
$47760 MSRP
+ 3 years maintenance
+ all weather floor mats
$1700 down and $362/month (including 9% tax)
With an MSRP of $49,880 and a cap cost of $44,380, the pre-tax payment works out to $476.15/mo. So, pretty close to your goal, since I don't know what the tax rate is.
