$3500 down would reduce your payment about $90/mo.

The way they had it listed was 3500 down was being split. It would pay the first payment, dmv / dealer fees. This came to around 850 I think. Then the balance was being used to reduce the cap cost. I'm really confused with all the numbers he is adding. There was also some depreciation of 450 dollars and some contract fee of 18 dollars.

Should I tell him to just put the 3500 dollars towards the cap cost reduction and then roll everything else into the lease?

Actually, we recommend putting $0 to the cap cost reduction - if the car is stolen or totaled, you lose that money. And, it doesn't change the overall total cost of the lease, just the calculus of when the money is spent.

Be patient and keep reviewing the numbers with the dealer until you're comfortable with them.

MSRP 51280, offer of 46500 with 2500 lease cash rolled in on first offer. ~47000 seems to be about the average price for the area. Shouldn't I be shooting for ~47000 negotiated price then subtract the 2500 lease cash, to come to a cap cost of ~44500?
