That is strange to read...I have a GM 4L30E trans in my trooper and it seems excellent. I would expect the 4L60E and tcases as part of the standard GM truck line to be the most rock solid and dependable on the market?
  • h1vch1vc Member Posts: 295
DOn't know why they break. But I know the H2 uses the 4L65-E. And in message 425, it should be break not brake.
  • sbcookesbcooke Member Posts: 2,297
You are right it is the 4L65E. Although when I saw a cross section at the Philly Autoshow it had a 4L60? They are both almost identical, just interesting...either way, I would expect a lot of problems with the H2...just not transmission/powertrain.
  • h1vch1vc Member Posts: 295
The transmission used to be called 4L60E HD, they later renamed it.

I measured my garage height at 74".

the h2 height is like 72".

    Is that enough clearance?

how goes the h2 fit (height wise) into your garage?

    thanks
  • h1vch1vc Member Posts: 295
The H2 is 77.8" without the cross bars, so it won't fit in your garage.

Test drove a H2 this weekend with the GM 24 hour test drive program. Did what they told me to do and that was drive it doing the things you normally do. I am not a GM person, but if I was going to buy a full size SUV this would be it. Rides smooth, tracks well, no harsh ride and when you are driving it, it drives much smaller than it is. For those that think this should be priced at $30,000. All I can say is, if it was, it wouldn't be a H2. I have a Jeep Liberty priced in that 25 to 30 range and it's not an H2. If you are looking at a full size luxury SUV, the pricing is right in line with any full size SUV out there. I am truly impressed.

If you ever wondered how safe the H1 is then check this out. Don't look if you like accords.

Someone got robbed and decided to take justice in their own hands instead of calling the cops and (literally) ran the crooks down in a Hummer. The prosecuter will have fun sorting this one out....

They're not sure if he did it on purpose, but he probably did, if it was on purpose I bet the guy will get sued. But look past that stuff and see just how safe the H1/Humvee is.

    By NEWS CHANNEL 3 / azfamily.com

Today the fiancee of the man who used his Humvee to chase down a carload of men who robbed him at gunpoint talked to News Channel 3.

There's been a lot of talk about whether Peter Sheppard should have followed the suspects who robbed him Saturday.

"My sole intention was try to assist authorities," Peter Sheppard, 30, said defending his actions on KTAR radio Monday.

The incident started when Sheppard said the four men came into his business, Mr. Insurance, on Camelback Road and 13th Street Saturday evening, armed and demanding money.

Police say the suspects took off in a Honda with cash and jewelry. Sheppard jumped inside his Humvee to follow them. Sheppard said he did so to get their license plate number and also to draw attention to the Honda so police could locate the suspect vehicle easily. But when the suspects noticed they were being followed and tried to lose the Humvee, they lost control and crashed just a few car lengths in front of the Hummer. Sheppard's Humvee crashed into the suspects' car and crushed it, sending three people to the hospital. Two of them sustained critical injuries.

Sheppard's fiancee, Sarah Loruss, said they deserved it. She said Sheppard feels differently and did not want the accident to end the way it did.

"He said I wish nothing bad would've happened b& they don't deserve this," she said.

Today some KTAR listeners came to Sheppard's defense.

There is no word yet on whether Sheppard will face any charges in the case.

What does everyone think of the H3? I think its ugly and doesn't look like a Hummer.

With a whole paragraph or two to go with the spy pic :-)

    2005 HUMMER H3 Midsize SUV

What's the reasoning behind the "short" windows anyway? A hold-over from the Hum Vee and expensive bullet proof glass or something?

    Steve, Host
  • sbcookesbcooke Member Posts: 2,297
It looks like a mocked up trailblazer. At least with the H2 they supposedly melded the best Tahoe/Suburban feature with a new design. I hope the H3 isn't another oldsmabuick.
  • h1vch1vc Member Posts: 295
If you're talking about the window over the rear wheels, I think they're just trying to copy the Hummer wagons look. The reason the H1s window is so small is because they just can't put a taller window in there.

Actually its a mocked up colorado, its based on the colorado and will be made at the same plant. It sure sucks for AMG.

What do you think is the truck under the H3 in edmunds pic, looks like the colorado to me.

On saturday on the west side of des moines iowa I saw a orange SUT with rear spare on a carrier heading west, pretty cool seeing a future vehicle.

I just took back a H2 from my 24 hour test drive and I have the following thoughts
The size is very easy to get used to
It really is a comfortable SUV with a nice ride
it gets 10 miles per gallon
the interior needs a material upgrade- typical GM
It is a nice comfortable SUV that lets you think you own the road
  • h1vch1vc Member Posts: 295
GM said they're going to upgrade the interior soon. Mileage should improve to ~11 after time.
  • wch3wch3 Member Posts: 10
I've been talking to several dealers who say inventories are starting to build but that GM will never offer 0% financing on the Hummer. I heard the same from mortgage brokers and 4% and 4% became true. I took the H2 for 24 hrs. Enjoyed it and so did my family. I'm looking to get a new SUV by October and wondering if the Hummer will go the way of the Denali and Yukon which is offering the 0%, which is very tempting -- free money essentially.

Anyone have any thoughts or news? When do the 04s start hitting the lots?

    Thanks!
  • sozersozer Member Posts: 12
hello i have some ?'s after you completed your test drive. I am only a 13 year old so im not exactly a serious buyer but im still very intrests in the H2 and how well it is doing in the current market, i have only been in one and it seemed massive. Do you really believe that it is worth the $48,000 (at cheapest)price tag, plus the gas. I live in CA and the gas prices never stop rising, so you have to invest even more money in the gas , if you really only get 10 mpg i think it is just unreasonable to actually purchase one of these vehicles!!!!
  • h1vch1vc Member Posts: 295
04s should arrive in the 4th quarter of 2003. Yes most delaers have H2s on the lot but I don't think you'll see a national 0% offer on H2s anytime soon.
  • wch3wch3 Member Posts: 10
Why so late? I hate to push off until Oct/Nov to purchase it. But I don't to be like a friend who purchased a GM truck to have it go 0% two weeks later. That hurts!

The leases were adjusted downward in June so I guess I keep hoping things move the same way for purchasing. Heck Audi is offering 1.9 on the All road!

Any significant changes between 04s and 03s other than the SUT body. Interior updated at all?

    Available Delphi integrated navigation radio

A bright appearance package includes chromed hood handles, hood latches and gas cap with filler trim. Chromed production wheels are also available.

The trailering package now offered includes front hitch extension, vertical mount pin, hitch covers, electric brake harness and seven-to-four pin adapter.

Three grille appearance options are offered in 2004 including body color, platinum chrome or black.

For ease of access to loading items on accessory roof bows, new handles are available that mount into existing roof rails that come standard on every H2.

From new chrome-plated tubular assist steps to a new chrome-plated wrap-around brush guard, and from an interior trim package to a roof-mounted bike carrier and HUMMER bike, there's an accessory to meet nearly every H2 owner's need.
  • wch3wch3 Member Posts: 10
Will the navigation system be cd-rom driven or a downloadable harddrive type?
  • h1vch1vc Member Posts: 295
The navigation operation will instantly map routes with 2-D and 3-D full-color map views on a 5.8-inch (147-mm) display screen with the push of a button, making maneuvering on highways and streets effortless. Once the navigation CD is inserted and the address entered on the system's screen, a route map is generated and audio commands - with step-by-step instructions in English, French or Spanish - are provided.
  • wwhite2wwhite2 Member Posts: 535
I thought all navs are DVD based now ..... only need 1 disk for entire country .

Sozer I think you dont worry about MPG if you buy a HUMMER even if the price spikes to 5.00 a gallon , Man would that be expensive
is it worth it , probably not ....if Hummer loses it's status symbol they will sit on dealer lots and you will see them discounted $10,000 like they discount Devilles
  • h1vch1vc Member Posts: 295
press release says cd. Alot of the dealers already have H2 sitting on the lot, but the price for the most part is still sticker.
  • wch3wch3 Member Posts: 10
I just received a call from a dealer who said they are now offering $2000 cash back on H2s. The same for the corvette as well. Let's see if 0% is around the corner as lots start to fill up.

Picking up our H2 this evening...patience paid off and got a great deal! However, I have a couple questions that maybe someone can help answer:

    1) Has anyone ever purchase gap insurance in case of an accident on a car he/she was purchasingo? I know its automatic with leasing but it was the first time I had heard about it when purchasing a vehicle? It cost around $500? Seems steep. Is it necessary or worthless like the extended warranties for other durables goods?

    2) I was thinking of adding a couple of aftermarket items:
    >fog lights
    >entertainment system
    >hp enhancer, e.g. new filter, ram air, modified computer (any cost efficient suggestions on improving mpg, hp and torque are most welcome)

Will these add-ons void the warranty in any way?

Any guidance or suggestions is most welcome!

Congratulations WCH3! We will be picking up a H2 Tuesday. It is definitely a buyers market right now. My husband patiently waited for the market to turn, and we ended up with a great deal too.

Is it true that the H2 will run fine off Regular 87 Octane? If so, that is a plus especially considering all other comparable Large SUV's require premium.
  • h1vch1vc Member Posts: 295
I think your current insurance should cover the H2 during the process. Enhancers will void the warranty.

H2 will run fine off Regular 87.
  • wch3wch3 Member Posts: 10
h1vc, Thanks for the heads up on the engine enhancers.

So basically there is nothing you can do to enhance the hp or mpg on the hummer until after the warranty period ends? What about just changing filters?

Will adding lights or an entertainment center affect the warranty?
  • h1vch1vc Member Posts: 295
filters like k&n let bigger particles through and shortens the life of an engine, so yes it will void the warranty. I don't think AMG or GM Hummer has approved any hp or mpg enhancers yet.

Official Hummer lights will be fine. Don't know about the entertainment center though.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
I'm not a fan of K&N's air filters, but I think they'd disagree with that assessment, H1vc. I think they'd be citing the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act at you left and right. When you search for the act, you'll get buried in links from Amsoil, chip modders and every other aftermarket accessory dealer out there, all saying that warranty coverage can't be denied just because a consumer used an aftermarket part.

But mods do give the dealer an easy way to deny warranty coverage, even though if push came to shove, they may not be able to prove that the mod had anything to do with why something mechanical failed.

That said, I doubt that SEMA, Amsoil or K&N is going to spend a lot of time or money helping you sue the dealer to prove that a mod didn't cause any damage.

An oil analysis on a 6.5 turbo diesel Hummer engine showed that the k&n filter would shorten the engine life.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
There's supposedly some Mercedes testing that says similar things, but they won't release the study. Or so the rumor mill goes.

    Got a link?

Its not an offical AMG or GM Hummer analysis. It was done by an Hummer owner.

Gosh, I have a hard time thinking of an air filter as a mod! Would Mr. Coffee void the warranty if you didn't use Mr. Coffee filters in your coffee maker? :-)

It's interesting to note that dealers will generally use outside shops to install entertainment systems. I assume that when that happens they assume responsibility for any electrical problems that may occur later due to incorrect installation.

Having said that, can anyone advise whether it would be better to have a dealer install offroad lights or have an outside installer do it? I can't imagine that it is difficult to install lights.

Has anyone done any modifications to their H2 engines? What did you do? And what were the results in terms of mpg and/or hp?
  • wch3wch3 Member Posts: 10
I fogot to ask if anyone has installed locking gas doors on the H2. Curious to know if it is necessary and if it is easy to do. A friend recommend SMA's cover but it does not lock. According to my friend, SMA has the best quality but you'll pay for it.

Dealer was the one that recommended looking into covers. They had one incident with sugar in the tank -- sort of like paint on fur attack.
  • tidestertidester Member Posts: 10,059
    Has anyone seen this?

WARNING: Don't look if you take your H2 too seriously!

    tidester, host
  • h1vch1vc Member Posts: 295
I've heard owners say that you can install Hummer off road lights yourself. Stant makes a locking cap that sells for ~20, can't remember the part number though.

Yeah I've seen hummerdinger, they probably put the sugar in the tank.

A journalist with a major daily newspaper is looking to talk with people who recently bought the Toyota Sienna, the Mini Cooper, the Nissan 350Z, and the Hummer H2, who found ways to circumvent waiting lists and who did not pay more than the sticker price. Please respond with your daytime contact information to Mamayn@aol.com as soon as possible, no later than Tuesday, August 5. Considering the H2, but I don't like to pay MSRP for a car. Could anyone who recently purchased a Hummer let me know if they are dealing. Dew Cadillac in St. Pete has about 25 on their lot.

Any major changes in the interior for '04. The only thing really keeping me from the purchase is the poor quality interior.
  • h1vch1vc Member Posts: 295

Dealers are offering up to $2000 cash back on vehicles. There is a dealer in NJ, James Hummer Outlet that is offering 0% financing on 03s for 60 months. They are not discounting the h2s but you would get the 2000 cash back.

Sales slowed in June and July, and orders for 04s will be going in soon so now seems to be a good time to negotiate a deal. 0% financing may still be in the picture if the 2000 cash back doesn't do the trick. I would go on the internet and search for dealer in-state or out-of-state. How much is a plane ticket or a hour and half drive for saving several thousand anyway?

ONE thing to keep in mind: You are buying a TRUCK! If you think its a luxury SUV, you 'll always be disappointed in the quality of the interior materials. Fine, it doesn't have a Bulgari clock like the Escalade but you probably wouldn't be taking an Escalade where you'll take the H2. Its a truck with luxury features, plain and simple!
