I spoke with several dealers and received 2 offers so far. Both appear to pay taxes up front. Is it better to pay taxes up front or roll them into the lease? My understanding is if I pay up front and my car is stolen or totaled I will not get this money back and if I roll them into the lease, I will then pay interest on the tax. What makes more sense?
I am located in NY (8.8750 sales tax) and looking for a 36 month, 12K lease.

I get very similar numbers when I plug them into a calculator I built. Please let me know what you think.
I appreciate all of the help since leasing is new to me.

I agree with your calculations on both deals.
Your observations on tax are on the money. Your call - I'm lucky to live in a state where tax is applied to the monthly payment.

Thank you Michaell.
@kyfdx Thanks and I agree, I will roll the taxes into the lease.
I want to thank @Michaell and @kyfdx again as well as the Edmunds’ articles for helping me with my lease. It was interesting to see how different dealers approached the sales process and the numbers. I used the calculator I built and spotted a couple of quotes that did not make sense.
I picked up my new 2015 Rogue SL AWD with premium package tonight. I thought it would be helpful to share the deal I got.

Hello - Question on a lease for a 2015 Rogue SV with Premium Package (AWD). 12k/36m
Dealer is telling me: msrp 28,800, cap cost 25,165, resid 58%, MF .00046 Quote is $279 a month, NJ 7% taxes included.
My calc is coming to $272.08 a month.
So a $7 differenc in the lease cost tells me there is about $250 difference in the cap cost of the car. Could this be the Nissan Advertising fee that he's maybe not including in the capcost? Edmunds shows this as $258.
When I asked him why (over the phone) he said come on in and we can go over that in person. Only $7, but....
@djsazon can you ask him to share the quote sheet over email and disclose all fees?
If I run the deal through the Leasify iPhone app I get $254 + tax but I don't have the information about the fees.
Also, are there any options installed on the car? That will change the Edmunds True Market Value (TMV) and the Leasify Deal Score that is being published by the Leasify app.
Money factor translates to 1.1% APR which is good. I just want to check on all the fees and understand options so we can get you a Deal Score and recommendations.
Also, provide your exact zip code please. I used 08514 is a placeholder.

Thank you. $254 + 7% tax (zip code 07039) is 271.78, right about what I'm getting using other calculators. I'll see if I can get other fee info. The dealer has been hesitant over the phone. I may have to pay them a visit.
To save time and stay in control of the process I recommend pressing them again for the breakdown of the fees before going to the dealership... might be hard for them to close a deal if they aren't willing to tell you the breakdown?

Ask the dealer what the net cap cost is - and the full breakdown of how they arrive at that number from the selling price. I'm sure there is a fee in there - but what we don't yet know if it's legitimate or fluff.
So im looking to lease a 2015 rogue select s msrp 23625 includes 885 destination fee sale price 21320 which includes customer and bonus cash what montly payments would i be looking at 20k 36 months? Whats the money factor?

MF is .00003.
36/15 residual is 52% for FWD and 53% for AWD. Extra miles are charged up front at, I believe, .20 per mile. So, deduct $3000 from the calculated residual (5000 miles per year x 3 years x .20/mile).
I get $328.57/mo using the AWD residual - this is before tax. The extra miles are adding about $85/mo to your payment.

328.57 is not including the additional miles that would bring it up to 20k. I would add $85 extra a month correct?

Sorry, I wasn't clear. The $328.57 is accounting for the extra miles you requested. Otherwise, the payment would have been around $240/mo for a straight 36/15 lease.

What is the MSRP?
57% for 36/15; extra miles are charged at a per mile rate, but I don't know what that is - perhaps between .10-.25 per mile.
With the MSRP, I can estimate the payment but won't have an exact number.

"then adjusted down for the extra miles" sorry what do you mean by this? 267 a month is for 15k and then add the additional miles per cent

It means I calculated the residual value using the 57%, then subtracted $1350 for the extra miles (9000 miles * .15 per mile).
So, my wife is currently PURCHASING (not leasing) a 2011 Rogue AWD SL. We have only had it (bought CPO) for a few months.
She has a service appointment for it on Saturday, and the dealership where she is taking it asked her if she would be interested in talking to a sales rep about her vehicle, because they apparently "have lots of people looking for a vehicle like hers," and they think they can get her into a new vehicle at similar payments.
So, she is currently buying for $262 a month. Do we think the 2015 AWD Rogue SL OR maybe SV (with the premium package and moonroof package) (she won't want to give up features) could be had for around that price in a lease? I would imagine that they HAVE to be talking about a lease.
I am pretty good at these negotiations, but this scenario just came across to me as unlikely.
Conversely, looking to see if anyone knows of incentives, MF and Residual for 2015 Rogue AWD SL for this month. I will be talking to the dealership on Saturday I guess, but have my doubts that they will make it work.

Without getting into the specifics of the numbers, I'd say this is doubtful, and the dealer will play with the numbers - a lot.
Current lease numbers are 57% and .00020 for 36/15 on all trim levels of the Rogue.
Is $262/mo possible? Yes. With $0 out of pocket? Less likely ...
Thanks for the info. Is 36/15 the standard way Nissan does leases or is 36/12 number any better? Like I said, meeting with them on Saturday. Wouldn't want to do any money down, considering when we bought wife's, we traded in old car worth about $4,000 towards the purchase price. Don't want to lay out more cash on top of that.

Add 1% to the residual for 12K.
There will be some money out of pocket if you decide to lease - bank fee, dealer fee, tags/license, first payment.

Can you please advise on the residual and money factor for 36 month, 12k mile lease on a 2015 AWD Rogue SL? I live on Long Island, NY.
Also, how should sales tax be calculated? Can I apply it to the monthly payment or should it be added to the entire sale (cap) price?
Thanks, Mike
(Sum of monthly payments + upfront payments ) X (tax rate).
Then, add that number to the CAP cost and recalculate (or pay it upfront).

57% for 36/15; extra miles are charged at a per mile rate, but I don't know what that is - perhaps between .10-.25 per mile.
With the MSRP, I can estimate the payment but won't have an exact number.

Ok, I asked you last month, however, I will probably go in to lease a 2015 4x4 Rogue SL on 8/2 or 8/3.
Can you give me the August residual and mf for:
2 year lease, 15K miles
&
3 year lease, 15K miles.
Also, if you know, is there any lease cash for August.
No info on lease cash.

Thoughts appreciated!

There will be some money out of pocket if you decide to lease - bank fee, dealer fee, tags/license, first payment.
