My fiance is looking to lease a Nissan Rouge SV (Prem Interior/Blind Spot Slip). I usually buy cars so I'm new to the whole lease thing. What information do I need to know for leasing in zip 18966? I'm trying to stay under $300/mo?

I was given the below quote

MSRP : $29,155
Savings : $4,176
Est. Price : $24,979

I feel like this is a good price, but not sure if I have any further negotiating power...

I wanted to walk away and work towards a better deal... but "Happy Wife, Happy Life" so I gave in.

Wife's 2011 Rogue was in for service and a salesman said her vehicle was in high demand and asked if she would consider trading in and going to a lease.

Here's where we ended up:

- Traded in: 2011 Nissan Rogue AWD SL w/ about 50k miles. We had just bought it about 5 months ago, and our purchase payments were $262 a month.

- Received: 2015 Nissan Rogue AWD SV (w/ SV Premium Package, Navigation, etc. w/ floormats/trunk cover/storage set, etc.). DEALER INSTALLING Sunroof (not the panoramic, this is after-market install).

Payment Information:
- Gross Capitalized Cost: $27171.99
- Adjusted Cap Cost: $26013.71 (giving residual of $16747.50)
- Down Payment: $700 (includes first months payment, any fees, etc.)
- Base Monthly Payment: $265.94
- Taxes are $23.93/month.
- TOTAL MONTHLY PAYMENT: $289.87


Personally, I wanted to see us at about $265-279 all in for this to make sense for us. But, once my wife saw the changes from 2011 version to the new 2015 with all the new technology, I knew I was in trouble...

Just wanted to provide this information to you all. Can answer any additional questions. Thoughts on the deal we ended up with are welcome too!

I'm new to the forums and new to leasing so I am looking for some guidance. I've done a lot of reading and research to understand the process, terms and what's extra padding and what's not. I'm looking to lease a 2015 Rogue SV AWD premium pkg and possibly moonroof package. I'm sure this sounds crazy, but trying to get my payments as close to $200/mo as possible. MSRP for the vehicle I am looking at is $29,635. Residual is 58% I am told. With MF of .00020. Term of 3y/12k. I'm in MD so I believe the taxes are calculated differently. Seems most of the dealers I am looking at are charging a doc fee ($299) along with the acquisition fee ($595). Tags etc are $279. There's a $700 lease rebate. I have $2k to put down and loyalty cash of $500. My question is how low do I need to get the dealer down on the sale price to be at my $200 payment? Any idea of the dealer cost for this vehicle? They keep talking around the invoice price as if it is their cost for the vehicle, but I know this isn't true. Any advice/information or assistance calculating is greatly appreciated!!

I don't think you can get a $29K car for $200/mo unless you put a lot of money down, which we do not recommend. If the car is stolen or totaled, you lose that money.

Also, MD is one of a few states that applies sales tax to the entire selling price, even on a lease. This will make your lease payment much higher.

Doc fee is pretty standard; $299 isn't bad (I paid $499 on my Outback earlier this year here in Colorado).

I don't track selling prices, but I do recommend using the tools here at Edmunds to help determine a good price - use the "make / model / year" pull downs at the top of the page.

36/12 lease numbers on the SV AWD are 58% and .00024.

Thanks. I do have gap insurance and have already looked into the loss issue, but don't wish to put more than my $2k down plus whatever loyalty cash I have - it's either $500 or $1k. 

This is all new to me so I'm just trying to figure out what price range I need to be in with my down payment to get out as close to $200/mo as possible.

GAP insurance doesn't reimburse the down payment money.

To get a pre-tax payment of $200/mo, the selling price would have to be $24,000.

Lease on a Rogue S AWD, selling price $22622. I have a trade with aprox. $2500 in neg. equity.

hes started saying $4k down $465/mo. I said "no way! I want to stay under $400",

Then he came back with $2k down $375/mo. I said "No money down please",

Now they want $415/mo 36/12k with $500 down and he says hes loosing money. they haven't given me the run down on the numbers yet, so i have no info on MF or residual.

Generally, it's not wise to negotiate the payment on a lease .. negotiate the best selling price and ensure the dealer isn't marking up the MF on you. That will get you the best lease payment.

Look for internet prices at some major dealers in and out of state, and look for pricing. I did so and am able to get a Rogue SV w/ premium and moonroof pkg for 36/12k for <300/month. I might seal the deal this weekend if they take care of my last payment on G37x and the disposition fee is waived which seems like Nissan Finance should be able to do as its the same leasing co for Infiniti and Nissan.

This is with $0 down and no other payment. All rolled into it.

So the dealer M'Lady Nissan in Crystal Lake, IL is who i worked with. They had claimed $289/month for 36/12K all inclusive $0 down and no additional upfront fees. Half way during my 2 hr drive to Chicago, they claimed they don't have the config they promised, and offered to upsell me an SL fully loaded for $350 or SV base with no options for $239. At this point, trust had been lost and I didn't proceed. Overall the salesperson seemed very arrogant about their dealership being the largest and thinking I will take whatever they offer.

A word of caution for anyone dealing with dealers away from your place.

My wife and I just picked up '15 Rogue SL AWD w/ Premium the other week 36k/36mo. The monthly payment is $328 per month with only $328 out of pocket. We are NY so taxes are 8% in my county. I believe the purchase price was $29,500.

That's a terrible deal. For $415/mo you could practically own the car after 3 years as opposed to leasing.

So, what is the CAP cost? Is it the selling price minus some of those numbers? Or, does the selling price already include the rebate/loyalty?

Is it $2000 due at signing? Or,is it a $2000 CAP cost reduction, with more due besides that?

We need to know what to add in to the CAP cost and what to take out.

Selling price is before any adjustments. It's the dealers reduction before adding in fees/taxes and before the cash down & rebates.

Net cap is $25914.49

What about the other up front costs - first payment, bank fee, dealer fee, tags and license? Is that in addition to the $5800?

On a lease, the payment isn't used to calculate DTI - the total amount due on the lease is what gets reported.

And, insurance won't recover your down payment in the event the car is totaled.

Everything in included in the down payment except for the first months payment. Its not our total DTI, we need to work on, it's our monthly debt obligations. We need the lower payment rather than the money in the bank. So, with the $5800 down

I get that ... but I need to know the breakdown of the $5800 .. how much is going to the bank fee, dealer fee, etc. so I know how much is left of the $5800 to be used as cap cost reduction.

Oh, sorry. I don't know. I've just been emailing back and forth with the dealer and that's all the info I've been given. He didn't give me the breakdown, just the info I've given you. I know that tax, title and fees he said are around $1000....does that help at all?

The more specific you can be, the more specific my calculations are.

I wouldn't SWAG it with the dealer - get them to provide you a detailed breakdown of the costs and how the trade equity is going to be applied. Too much opportunity for them to hide extra fees. Don't focus on the payment - focus on the best selling price and a full understanding of every dollar in the deal. The low payment should then take care of itself.
