Welcome to the owners club. I'm sure you'll be happy with your new Accord. Be sure to stop in occasionally on the other owner forums to keep up on emerging Accord topics. I applaud your approach to this forum...tell us all about your purchase experience and then move on. Some owners appear to be seeking a sort of cyber-knighthood as they boldly proclaim their "conquest" and then wait for an outpouring of public acclaim.

"However, while researching it was a real drag paging through endless posts from people disputing others(sic) prices, asking questions about the car's performance/problems, getting into long discussions about things other than the price of their car, in general trying to establish some kind of relationship. Please do everybody a favor, post your price and get off. This isn't a place to make friends."

Considerate of what others may use the discussion for, isn't he...

Everyone just give me what _I_ want and stand back.

I'm glad most are here to discuss.

    Hi Newaccordowner:

___What kind of sleazy tactics did you experience by the screamer ad guys at Grand?

___And I too would love to hear about how hundreds to thousands of Accords all over the country are going out the door at a bit over Hold Back. Something just doesn’t sound right?

___The Accord EX V6 w/ Auto is $24,539 at Invoice including destination. Subtract HB of $600 and the dealership paid ~ $23,939. So Honda of Lilse supposedly made just $261.00 for ordering the car, letting it sit on the lot at say 5.25% ($3.50/day) so that we the buyer can come buy and take it off their hands at a possible loss after the salesman’s cut, paying the light and gas bill, mortgage on the facility, real estate taxes, liability, health insurance … Something sure does sound funny, doesn’t it?

    ___Thanks in advance.

Hi. After buying the Element this year my wife and I decided to replace our almost six years old sonata. We shopped at Windy City Honda in Chicago.

    Facts:

2005 silver w/ black leather sedan EXL

    $22,ooo

    docs $53.52

    7%tax $1,558.75

    reg+title $143

    and below inlation 1.9% APR.

The whole deal took about 30 minutes. There was only problem: we took the car home and it didn't blow the warm air. We had to return it but since it was Saturday night we left till Monday. We did not want to argue (plus it was the only EXL silver on the lot) and destroy a beautiful time of Christmas. It must be a minor problem, I think. It's kind of exciting to pick up the car again.

We were quoted a price of $16,800 for a DX with air conditioning installed. Does anyone know if that is reasonable? -- We live in Maryland/metro DC area. Has anyone had experience with after market a/c installation?

thanks! They were charging us $1400 to install the a/c.

    hi,

i got a quote of 21000+TTL for a 05 accord LX V6 AT 4dr from a bayarea dealer. is that a good price for the car?

    thanks for the help
  • ktnrktnr Member Posts: 255
Excellent choice of car - what I probably should have bought instead of my 4-cylinder LX. Pushing really hard, the best price I could get here in the Atlanta area during a year-end sales push is $21,277 + TTL. By my calculations, $21,277 would leave the dealer with about $80 in profit (assuming no floorplan payments).

$21,000 is a fantastic price and again suggests that there must be some hidden dealer incentive providing profits not publicly disclosed. Your price works out to a net loss of $197 on the sale of your car (again before floorplan interest). Wow.
  • pbchoclovrpbchoclovr Member Posts: 11
Not sure where you are in the DC area, but they're overcharging you on the AC. HandA-accessories sells the kit for $900. Three weeks ago at Ourisman Honda in Laurel, I negotiated $1000 for the AC on a DX and that included installation. They started out wanting to charge me $1700 for the AC. I was quoted $13508 before AC and that included the destination fee. Hope this helps you get a better deal.
  • washgroverwashgrover Member Posts: 5
Thank you, pbchoclovr, that is very helpful information. I will make some calls before we go back to the dealer (Criswell in Germantown). Does the a/c work well in the car? -- I was worried about not having a factory-installed a/c. Thanks again.

I paid $24,700 "out the door" (taxes and all fees inluded) for a 2005 Accord EX-V6 Automatic Sedan (Graphite) in Northern Virginia. How did I do?
  • baddadbaddad Member Posts: 9
$24,700 "out the door", is actually staggering, considering invoice is $24024. Destination is $515 here in Dallas. Tax is another $1500 or so. That's a good $26k (and a little more). I hope you at least gave the dealer a kiss on the cheek...

    Hi Jag5:

___If my math works out, the V6 EX invoices out at $24,539 incl. destination.

    http://www.edmunds.com/new/2005/honda/accord/100452171/optionsres- ults.html?action=2&tid=edmunds.n.options.ntmv.1.1.Honda*

    The Honda dealership receives 3% of Base MSRP or $801.00 on the EX V6 ($26,700 * 3% = $801.00).

    http://www.edmunds.com/advice/incentives/holdback/index.html

    ___You paid ~ $23,910 + ~ $50 in fees? ($24,700 - $50.00 in fees = $24,650 * .97 = $23,910).

___So … The Dealership paid $23,738 for the car incl. Honda’s Hold Back to them including destination. You paid $23,910 so somehow this Honda dealership made ~ $172.00 which went to pay the salesman some small amount of $’s, pay the interest to purchase the car and let it sit on the lot at ~ $3.50/day at lets say 5.25%, and make enough profit on it to help pay for the heat, lights, etc … Was the Honda showroom heated and were the lights on?

___Can someone check the math? Jag5, it would have been easier if you would have told us what the price you paid was before any state tax was applied. Some taxes in Illinois depend on which county you live in as to what the tax rate actually is.

___Yes, I would say you did pretty good ;-)

___Good Luck and congrats on the new Accord.

Not sure on this car how the AC works.... I'm leaving it tomorrow with the dealer to have it installed. The system was on back order when I took delivery. I've had other Hondas with dealer installed AC, since I always purchase the base model and have had no problems.

Hi Baddad, You got a best deal. The 3% sale tax in VA is Heaven compared to 8.75% in the Bay Area, N. Cali. You should change your nick to Gooddad. I just wasted almost 10K more to get the HAH with a little more HP and MPG and the NAVI. I am sure if it;s worth it. It's nice to buy a new hot model but it is so costly to me.

Wayne, here are the numbers from the Order...

Total Price of Vehicle and Equipment: $23,584.89 (includes appearance package)

It says my "Discount" was: $4853.11

All taxes and fees came to (3% tax): $1115.11.

    My OTW: 24,700.

Yes, the lights were on. I received severa; qoutes via the internet, took the lowest and started working the "can you beat" battles over three days. This dealership finally matched my lowest price and through ina $100 gas card and 2 years of oil changes. Not sure of their motivation, but I am happy with the numbers. Send em a message if anyone wants the name of the salesman at this Northern VA Dealer.

One question for pbchoclovr! The price you wrote, $13,508, seems too low. By any chance did you mean 15,308? I am just wondering, because I am using these numbers to negotiate today!

    Thanks again so much.
  • washgroverwashgrover Member Posts: 5
I had one more question relating to pbchoclovr's information. I notice that the price you received was $13,508. That seemed too low. Did you mean $15, 308? Many thanks. I am hoping to use these numbers today!

Forgive me if this message is posted twice, but I could not find the message I thought I posted a little while ago!

Was this your out the door price or did you have tax, tag, title and documentation fees on top of this?

I'm currently looking for a 2005 Accord EX-L 4 cylinder in ATL. Got a qoute for $21,716 (includes Destination), Doc Fees $399, Tax $1548 and Tag $21. Out the door $23,684.05

    Is this a good deal?

Anyone out there gotten any better deals lately?
  • sunilsunil Member Posts: 52
Not sure of prices in Atlanta. But here in the Bay Area, I bought my EX-L on Dec 11 for 21596 (includes destination) + 45 docs. So you may a little bit of room to negotiate if Atlanta prices match Bay Area prices.

    BTW - I also paid $5 tire fee + 17xx tax + 196 tags, but these are CA-specific numbers...

What dealership was that? When I did price comparison shopping in Atlanta a month ago, no other dealer was able to match Hennessy Honda in Kennesaw. Also, CarsDirect.com confirmed that Hennessy Honda is their Atlanta source for the deals they offer (which is just Hennessy's price plus a markup).

Anyway, your price quote is a good one. Invoice on an EX-L is $22,047 plus $515 destination less $714 holdback puts the dealer's cost at just $267 below what you're paying.

My guess is that dealers are competing against each other for inventory allocation for next year, hence the aggressive December pricing.

I'm grateful to everyone generously sharing their time and experiences so we can all learn.

I submitted internet requests for prices on 4 cyl EX with auto transmission from Staten Is. Honda, Bay Ridge Honda, Rt 22 Honda, Planet Honda. All were very helpful and straightforward. Avoided Casiulli Honda who tried to charge $2000 over MSRP when I was shopping for my '03 Ody. Resubmitted lowest offer, then asked for final offer 2 days prior to purchase, knowing that Holidays are slow for dealers.

    MSRP $23415

    Invoice: $21123

    Purchase price: $19500 + NY Tax 8.625% + fees

    Out the door price: $21551.87

This beat what I figure is the hold back price of $20421. Dealer even threw in splashguards and door guards. Gee, what gives here? Anyway, I'm grateful. Good luck, everybody, and Happy Holidays! (And thousands of thank you's Edmunds, for this great service!)

I just finalized my deal on an '05 EX-V6 (Black with Ivory leather).Dealer went invoice+$515 ($24539), 5/100 $50 deductable warranty @$795, wheel locks, splash guards, rubber trunk tray, and 10 oil changes, all at no charge. He is very close to my home, and the deal could not have gone better. I also got 1.9% for 60 months, and a 90 DEFERED FIRST PAYMENT! I did put $5000 down, but the defered first payment really helps with the Holidays and all. KTNR is correct about dealers vying for the '05 allocations...what they sell in '04 can dictate what they get in '05. If you really need a car, I would try to do something this week or next. I'm told the 90 day deferred payment is only good in a few states (I'm in Texas), but check with your dealer to be sure.

I got this qoute from Carey Paul in Snellville, GA. I'm still waiting for a few other dealers to send quotes to me, I haven't received Hennessy Honda's yet.

It appears that Honda Finance wants a large down payment to honor the 1.9% financing even for someone with very good credit? Also, does anyone think they will extend the low interest financing?
  • baddadbaddad Member Posts: 9
Hey Clovisguy, I'm not so sure about the large down, because we got approved for $27K at that rate. I think your credit score may count more towards the rate you get, than the down payment.
  • pbchoclovrpbchoclovr Member Posts: 11
    Washgrover,

I did mean $13,508 and it did include the destination fee. That is the price I paid for an 04 DX manual transmission three weeks ago, before the AC and TTL was added. Not sure if the price you were originally quoted was for an 05 or 04...Oh and one more thing... Ourisman Honda threw in mud guards, wheel locks, door trim and tire well trim with the package for no charge....Didn't even ask for any of it and I got it free! All part of what they call their "Appearance Package."

I saw that you can get pre approved financing by Honda Financial Services online before you even go in the dealership. Has anyone done this? And if so do you recommend it?

I'm already getting pre approved at my credit union, but the 1.9% would beat there rate.
  • odyssey1odyssey1 Member Posts: 23
We went online to get preapproval with HFS, but I would definitely recommend against it. It was a waste of time. HFS just tells you whether or not you are approved for a loan, but does NOT reveal the interest rate. When we took the preapproval certificate to the dealer, they ran a separate credit check anyway, which clearly showed as a separate inquiry on our credit report. (Remember, too many inquiries in a short period of time hurts your credit score). The dealer also initially tried to tell us we could only get 3.9% financing, until we threatened to leave without the car and reminded him that we were putting down a very large down payment. We eventually got the 1.9% deal without a fantastic credit score.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with Carsdirect.com. I'm interested in the Accord EX. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Invoice price with Automatic transmission, PZEV, and Destination is $21,258. Carsdirect.com list a below-invoice price of $20,508. Is carsdirect.com reliable? Is there a lot of hassle buying through them? Any comments or advice about carsdirect.com would be much appreciated. Thanks.
  • ktnrktnr Member Posts: 255
CarsDirect.com works by knowing which dealer in your area has the lowest internet prices. CarsDirect sources the car through that dealer and tacks on a $400-500 profit for themselves. There is no hassle, nor any obligation either.

When I bought my car a month ago, I was easily able to find the lowest price in the area (later confirmed by CarsDriect.com as the dealer they work with here) and buy from that dealer myself saving $500.

If you're unsure, find the lowest price you can and then see what CarsDirect can do.
  • ktnrktnr Member Posts: 255
    I agree 100% with odyssey.

My one complaint about the Honda sales process was that the dealer wasn't able to pull up my online credit application from HFS, even with the pre-approval certificate in hand. We had to fill out a complete credit application at the dealer all over again anyway. Why? I guess they needed a signature but they didn't have a way to print out the online information so that I could sign it!

As odyssey said, it's a waste of time until Honda improves their system.

Just bought EX V6 w/Navi for $25,600 last night (12/20) at Monmouth Honda, in Lakewood, NJ. Didn't work out the 1 year of oil changes though!

    Silver w/ black leather.

    Love it!

From my recent experience, carsdirect.com gives you a really good ball-park estimate of price, so you can negotiate with dealers with no hassels . You should aim for a price 400-500 BELOW carsdirect.com. Armed with their pricing info, you can get your deal done fast without tiresome haggling (and you can also sleep well knowing you did not get taken !!).

In my case, carsdirect.com price for an EX-L in the Bay Area was 21961; I got my car on Dec 11 from AutoWest Honda (Fremont) for 21596 (ie, 365 below carsdirect.com price).

If you are buying in the Bay Area, I recommend getting internet quotes from both AutoWest Honda (Fremont) as well as South Bay Honda (Los Gatos). They both gave good quotes on-line with no hassels - both their quotes were BELOW the carsdirect.com price...

    ktnr,

Are you saying that carsdirect charges an additional $400-$500 to the price shown onlline?

What is a good way to find out which dealer in my area works with carsdirect?

    Thanks again.
  • ktnrktnr Member Posts: 255
The price CarsDirect.com quotes is their price. But by contacting area dealers yourself, you can probably beat their price by at least several hundred dollars.

CarsDirect.com is a business and they need to take a cut like any other middleman. In many cases, you can get the same price on a car that they do and leave them out of the transaction all together. However, if you can't find a better deal on your own, then by all means take advantage of whatever CarsDirect.com offers.
  • sbpceapsbpceap Member Posts: 67
My final price ($19500) was offered by both Rt. 22 Honda and Planet Honda. I ended up buying at Planet Honda. It was a cash purchase, and I had to take the car that same day! (no problem for me, as long as they honored their price offer). As another post said, Planet took several hours, but not because they played games. They had a huge volume of customers and were quite busy, but pleasant and professional.
  • clovisguyclovisguy Member Posts: 49
I don't know what my credit score is? However, I pulled my free credit report up and I don't have even one 30 day late payment. I did have a $4000 credit card balance still showing I since payed off. Having a $613 per month mortage payment as the only debt why should I be turned down? I bet the 1.9% financing ends on Jan. 4th as stated and Honda gives dealer incentives to help bring the prices down. Then, I will get an even better price. Plus, I will get the prime interest rate for autos from my C.U. like I did 2.5 years ago.

    autowest fremont.

and turn out i bought the EX-L V6 w/o navi from them for 22638 + TTL, around 25500 OTD cause i added the protective paint on it for 500. i'm very please with them and would highly recommend them to anyone in the bay area CA interest in Honda. i also got the 1.9% too, very sweet deal.

Has anyone tried purchasing an Accord through Costco? I'm curious what kind of deal you can get through them. Thanks.

    Hello,

I am probally going to buy my first Honda today. I have bought all GM before since my Dad works for GM, but I don't trust the current lineups with the dex cool issues.

I have a price on a 05 Accord EX with leather & XM radio of $24,538. I have been haggling with the dealer about the trade in of my 99 GA GT. I finally got $3200 for it. Right now my drive out is $22640 with oil changes for life and replacement tires for life. I have been pre approved for the 1.9% financing. Are there any pitfalls that I should look for? Is this a good price?
  • baddadbaddad Member Posts: 9
All things considered, I think you did very well. There might be wiggle-room on your trade, but invoice on the EX along with oil changes is good. That 1.9% is worth alot on the "real" cost of the car.
  • sonofgmsonofgm Member Posts: 11
I was also considering a Pontiac G6. The dealer would not haggle on $2200 for the trade.

The Honda dealer started at $1500! got to $3000 as I was leaving and offered $3200 yesterday.

One of the conditions of the free tires is that all the service would be done at the dealer. That may make up the price of the tires. I am a little wary of the timing belt. I guess that is a $800 price plus $350 for the tuneup at 90k miles. That is a lot of money.
  • ktnrktnr Member Posts: 255
You said you were negotiating on an EX-L. The I4 K-series engines have an internal timing chain that's good for the life of the engine. It's only on the V-6 that the timing belt is any issue and the first tuneup is at 105,000 miles.
