The invoice for that car is 18430 and transportation is 515, for a total of 18945.
So it look like you got your car for about $170 under invoice. Since I am used to paying about $250 over invoice, I think your price is very good.
Thanks for the information. I have never done car-buying over the internet, but I will try it in January and see if my experience is as good as yours.
I'm glad that California limits doc+tire fee to $50.
Anyway, all I did was cross-shop area Honda dealers via E-mail for the lowest price. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I should have cross-shopped all the area Toyota dealers too and used their lowest bid on a comparable Camry in my negotiations for an Accord.
Many of these low price posts don't mention a trade-in which seems odd. I would have thought that most people do have a trade-in when buying a car and that's where dealers count on making money. I was fortunate enough to have my old car totaled in an interstate pile-up caused by a semi and I used the insurance payoff as a cash down payment on the car I've been wanting anyway.
___Dest. is included in Grand’s pricing and I don’t know where you heard that holdback disappeared for the 05 Honda’s but something that drastic would have hit the automotive world like an earthquake. I am sure more would have heard about it.
___If you want to talk TIV’s, all bets are off because most will get fleeced by $1,000 - $4,000 or more in that scenario on the trade alone. A trade is only worth what they can be purchased for at the next auction no matter how great the condition. Go read some of Terry’s auction and TIV posts in the RWTIV thread.

I guess that I misunderstood what holdback is. I looked it up online just now and it appears that Honda provides dealers with 3% holdback on total MSRP.
For a 2005 Accord LX sedan w/automatic, with a total MSRP of $20,990, 3% is $630. Less my price $170 below invoice and the dealer made $460 on my purchase (the car had been only recently delivered to the dealer). My understanding is that holdback is roughly equal to 90-days of floorplan interest. I can see then why dealers are anxious to turn inventory quickly.
Thanks for making this clearer. I see now how people are able to buy below invoice.
Did you get the Accord w/Navigation or without? I'm trying to get a feel for what I should pay, looking at getting the EX, V6 w/leather & navi. Figured you would know since you are from so. cal. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks
___I wish I knew how Honda dealerships can survive on less then full HB because there sure are a lot of them doing just that nowadays! Isellhondas is saying there are no internal incentives on the Accord and when you start talking a total profit of $500.00 on a $20 - $25,000 investment as well as paying the interest as it sits, extra staff, lights, property taxes, mortgage on the building, paying the salesman somehow??? etc. and you don’t know how long it will take to sell, $500 looks awfully small imho. The “Ask a Car Dealer” forum experts are saying dealerships are making there money on Used cars and the Mechanics so they are making money but it appears not to be from new car sales?
___When I was at the Honda dealership here in Gurnee, IL. tonight, I saw a brand new white 04 EX w/ a 5-speed stick (that’s going to hurt) and Curtains sitting on the showroom floor. I know why it was on the showroom floor and I know if they are going to eventually move it, they are probably going to be losing more then just their shirt. Invoice = $20,290 - $1,300 (04 Rebate) – $594 (3% HB on invoice not incl. dest.) = $18,396 + $490 (dest.) = $18,886. If it had a gray interior (only available w/ Graphite, Blue, or Red), I might consider making a loss leader type offer of say $17,700 or so on or around the middle of January after a 9” snowstorm and its been 10 below 0 for the last 3 or 4 days ;-) It has the wrong color interior, it is not exactly what I am looking for, and it is not a PZEV unfortunately :-(

Do you think my lowest offer on the price of $13000 (not incl a 1K-1200 down payment) is too low or can I go lower? Have been researching for awhile and I am trying to figure this out. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
Which dealer is that? Brewster Honda?
$22,061 + Tax/Tags (in PA)
IS it possible to beat this?
___Not by much from my reads! The weekly deal from the Chicagoland area Honda dealership I use for comparison has the EX-L at $21,888 + TTL this week.

The Accord EX-L (I have the '04) is an outstanding car....Richard
'05 Accord EX w/ leather sedan:
$22,015 (which I had to negotiate)
$515 destination (taxable)
$230 "writers fee" (non-taxable)
I live in Boston. Tax is 5%. I have no trade-in. I was approved for the 1.9% APR for 60 months.
(I still may chicken out an get an LX for much less when I get there tomorrow. Their quote for that is 18,644 + destination, tax, and writers fee. I will not buy that car unless they offer close to 18K based on what I've read here.)
Everybody MUST pay transportation, so that's really part of the car's cost.
The "writer's fee" is pure revenue for the dealer and packs the price--here in California, that fee is limited by law to $50 (including a $5 tire disposal fee).
So, you're really paying $22,760 plus TTL (costs that the dealer must pay to government entities).
In August, 2003, I bought the same car--the 2004 EX-L--for $22,700 + TTL which is only $60 less than your deal. Transportation cost was $460 at that time and there might also have been a very slight difference in the invoice price (mine is a PZEV which was about $150 more than non-PZEV).
So you have essentially the same deal now that I had almost 16 months ago which was good at that time.
In reading the posts here, it seems that slowing sales, competition, that the Accord is now in the third year of its 5 year cycle, and traditionally favorable December pricing, have made the car somewhat cheaper than it was a year ago--but not by much.
The LX is probably the best deal, dollar for dollar, but you'll enjoy the EX-L MUCH more, I think.
I wanted an LX, but picked the EX-L because I insisted on having side curtain airbags which weren't available on LXs last year (they're standard on the LX now).
The leather interior, 8-way power seat, dual climate control with automatic feature, alloy wheels, 4 wheel disc brakes, etc. make the EX-L much more of a near-luxury car. If you can afford it, go for the EX-L.......Richard
I also appreciate the comments on EX-L vs LX. I know the price is much higher, but I do think I'll like the EX-L much more. Thanks for the pep talk.

Well, based on the tone of your post I'm glad I wasn't your salesperson.
I'm surprised you even bought the car if tyou are that bitter over the deal.
___You received a great deal so just be happy that you did as well as you did. Shysters is a common description but a bit extreme in this case considering what the dealership and the salesman actually earned vs. your Insurance Company over the next (your age of death – today’s date) years or the profit given to Circuit City on that Big Screen HDTV you might have purchased last month
___Remember that your Honda salesmen has to send his/her kids to college, place food on the table, and purchase Christmas presents just like you, I, and Isellhondas.

My deal from S.F. Honda was actually pretty good at that time--about $238 over invoice.
That was at the start of the Accord's second year of its current style and demand was stronger then. It looks like Accord sales are slower this year and especially this December.
I think your deal is very good.......Richard
Thanks for the post. In reality I was treated very well by the dealership (it was the 2nd car I bought from them in the last 1 year). I guess I just NEVER trust what they say is the invioice price. Yes, I know that I should not care if they make a profit, etc..but I just hate the fact that it is a game too see how much money they can make off of me. Yes, I understand this is America and is Capitalism, but it always feels so shady.
I truly believe that the dealers/salesman make FAR more money that they say, and for this reason I am always trying to "cut into" that margin. Oh well, these are my issues. I love the car so that is what matters. I am encouraged now that I feel I got a "fair" deal. Thanks for all of your responses.
The tone of your post reeks of bitter hostility. You seem more concerned over that a dealer "might" have made than the good value you received. There are no secret profits that someone took from you.
Again, I'm glad I wasn't your salesperson.
I hope you can now relax a bit and start enjoying your new car. Life is short...
That seems like a very good price. The best I got so far has been $23,900 + TTL
Can you tell me the name of the dealer and the zip code.
Thanks
I want to thank you for being here and providing the insights and perspective that you do.
You are probably not the only car enthusiast visiting this site that happens to sell cars for a living. However, rather than lurking or hiding yourself, you're open about being a Honda salesperson and you've been willing to be a resource to members of this forum.
Thanks for your participation.

It's curry honda on peachtree inds. blvrd.
My tax rate was 7%
Can anyone confirm this is true or has anyone done this before?
and Is the 30% on the purchase price or the "out the door price" ?
I'm trying to keep the number of inquiries down as I rebuild credit. Household bank said OK at 19% (tooo high!) another Eloans, just said no. I hope this dealer thing works?, Thanks for any advice, Kathy
