I am waiting to purchase an Accord EX-L (manual preferred) and notice that Honda is offering 1.9% financing until 1/05/05. Does anyone have an opinion about whether or not this incentive will be extended or will it end on this date?
  • clovisguyclovisguy Member Posts: 49
I am wondering the same thing? The only time Honda offered 1.9% financing that I can find was last year and for only short term financing of 24 months. With interest rates going up higher if they offer anything at all it will be attractive but not as good as what you can get now. I want to purchase an Accord before the deadline too. I can save $1500 on the interest for the life of a 60 month loan compared to the 4.29% my credit union (Golden1) offers now.

You can get pre-approved online at Honda Financial Services at the following link https://www.hondafinancialservices.com/planning/frm_apply.asp

Here is one more data point from SF Bay Area. Just picked my 2005 Honda Accord 4dr EX with leather. Price was 22100 plust tax and registration for total out of the door price of $24276. The dealer was very prompt and up to the point. No BS and very profecional. After test drive all I had to do is to show my internet price and they told me that I can get any 4cyl ex-l from the lot for $22100. I received 2 internet offers for 21900 but one of the dealers did not have the color and the other did bite and switch.

Picked one up last month for 23,900 in Fremont, CA. Love the car.
Looked at the Camery v6 but the test drives sold me on the Honda. I was shocked at the world of difference between them, and the Toyota was more expensive!
  • joh0812joh0812 Member Posts: 1
    Hello there,
Seems like you got a good deal. Your price of 23,900, is that th price before tax or after? Can you tell me the name of the auto dealer that you got your car from!
  • 3c33c3 Member Posts: 76
It has to be before tax. There is only one Honda dealer in Fremont.

I've been offered a price that is 355 over invoice for a 05 EX-L w/ Nav 5sp in the Pittsburgh area. I assume that this is a fairly good price 23,996 + Tax + plate. Any thoughts if I should hold out for a better price? Any chance of getting the car for invoice?
  • clovisguyclovisguy Member Posts: 49
There's a chance! Check the price carsdirect.com has.
  • clovisguyclovisguy Member Posts: 49
I checked with carsdirect for their price on a 2005 EX 4cyl. with automatic transmission (cloth) and it is $20,998. Invoice for the same car is $21,123. I am just wondering if I just purchase one for that price or get some internet prices from some central California Dealers first? I am about 200 miles from the bay area where some people here have bought their new Accords.

Just bought an LX Accord Sedan Manual. Paid 17,600 + tax & title (price includes destination fee). Located in Boston area.
  • inthemarketinthemarket Member Posts: 1
Can you tell me what dealership gave you this price? I was just offered $17,749 for an LX with 1.9% in Maine. Of course, the dealership manager stressed that I have little time to make up my mind. He did not quantify the amount of time. So I assume that it was a sales pitch.

    Bought 05 ex v6 yesterday. Paid 23,980 + TTL.
Had to buy the car in a hurry so didn't research
it well and test-frove first time yesterday. However, I like the car more than I expected to.
I researched accura TSX, but found that dealers
were unwilling to come down to reasonable prices.
Accord tuned out to be suprisingly similar to TSX in "look and feel" and quality of interior.
It appears to be aslo a step up from the previous
    accord model.
One thing that I didn't like is that the driver seat (not the back) feels to narrow to me. Believe it or not but the passenger seat feels fine. It as though the driver seat' sides are too tough. Go figure ...

It was Cambridge Honda/Chevrolet in Cambridge, MA. I think I got the sympathy price with my 8-month pregnant wife along... Or maybe I'm just a sucker. Anyway, they're nice people. Good luck!

I've been researching the best price for this car and this past weekend I contacted several (3) dealers in CT for their final quote: they eventually all settled around the same price - $19180 + ~$150 destination charge + TTL . I've also received 2 quotes from dealers outside my area (both are around 2 hours away) - Boch Honda in MA ($18500 + TTL) and Huntington Honda on Long Island ($18465 + TTL). Does anyone know why the CT dealers wouldn't go any lower? Is there a minimum price that Honda mandates? Is it different for different states? Has anyone bought a car "long distance"? Any pitfalls? I think I can take it to a local dealer for any needed warranty work. Is that true? If I can save more than $830 I think it's worth a road trip to MA!

    TIA

I live in Colorado and bought mine in California. (EXL V6 W/navi) It was a plane ticket and 14 hour drive but I got it for around 4200 less than I could find in Colorado. I sepent about 800 getting the car. (about 3400 less after the cost of getting it)

I had to go through 2 rather large states (Utah and Nevada) to get it but it is a great car and no problems at all. As far as warranty work any dealer will be happy to do it. They get the money from Honda for the work so it is not like they are doing it for free.

I don't know but I think I may hold the record for distance to buy an Accord. (950 miles one way)

    Good luck with your purchase.

I picked up my 2005 Accord LX 4dr Auto on last Friday. I got a couple quotes via emails/follow-up phone calls. I am amazed at how professional Honda dealers are in my area (southeast MI). I went with the one with the lowest price. I got pre-qualified for financing on internet Friday afternoon (Thanks, Clovisguy), went to the dealership around 4 with the certificate. The dealer is very very professional and down to bussiness. We took a test drive and were told that we can pick up any car in their lot. We were able to finish paper work and drove our new car home a little bit after 6:00pm!

It's a very delightful expenrience. Oh, the price is 19700 OTD, although I was told the price went up now. The dealership is Lafontaine Honda in Dearborn, MI.

I also considered Camry LE at the beginning. Surprisingly, Toyota dealers are very reluctant to give price quote over phone, neverthless via email. I finally got pissed off by one dealer who promised me a price over the phone, but wanted to charge me $800+ more when I came down there.

Anyway, I am very happy with Honda's dealerships and their car.

Hi there, I've been researching a 2003 Accord EX V6 for a little while now. I'm probably up for purchasing in a little less than a month from now. Presently, I've been coming across cars listed at between $22k and $20k. It's my understanding, from checking out carsdirect.com, Edmunds.com, and kbb.com that a used 2003 probably had a trade-in of between $17k and $18k. Can anyone confirm this, from personal experience or otherwise?

Obviously, I'd like the most information when it comes to negotiating with the dealer. I've already chosen a number of cars that fit my desired specs off of autotrader.com. Now, the process is just to determine what a reasonable amount to pay would be. The websites are recommending spending between $19k and $20k, though that seems like quite a profitable gap from what the trade-in rates are.

    Any advice or recommendations?

    Thanks.

    omc92,
How much of the $19700 you paid is registration and state tax?

Does anyone know why the CT dealers wouldn't go any lower?

It may be the level of competition among dealers in CT. I don't know how many dealers there are in MA, but my closest dealer is Huntington Honda on Long Island (where I just bought a EX-L 4 cyl auto) and within a 15 minute drive there are 6 other dealers. Within a 30 minute drive there are 12, so its a competitive market.

You can take the car to any dealer for warranty work. Remember they are making money even on warranty work, and any new customer even if they didn't buy the car there is a potential new customer.

I've been asked by service departments why I didn't buy the car there (other brands), and there have always been a good reason (moved, old dealer closed, new dealer just opened, dealer couldn't get the car, etc.). Of course if asked don't say "I got it cheaper elsewhere!"

It's not unheard of for auto dealers to advertise low interest rate financing that almost no one can qualify for. My local Honda dealer provided that American Honda Financial Services is looking for a credit score (Beacon, FICO, Trans-Union, etc) of 720 or higher in order to qualify for their 1.9 % APR promotional financing.

However, even if buyers don't qualify, buyers with credit scores above 670 can still get 2.9% financing from AHFS which is still a great rate.

    In case anyone was wondering.

I got mine for $200 below inv in CA. '05 EX-L w/ Navi and 5sp Auto.
  • odyssey1odyssey1 Member Posts: 23
This is very helpful. Thanks you. I know we have a 680 FICO. If we got a co-signer with a 720+ do you know if that would get us the 1.9 financing?

Also, anyone have any idea about if we get pre-qualified on the honda finances website how long that pre-qual is good for?
  • clovisguyclovisguy Member Posts: 49
I was just turned down by Honda Financial Services. I tried to get 100% financing at 60 months for an Accord EXA4 sedan. I didn’t even receive an explanation or phone call from them explaining why, but will receive something in the mail. I was approved by my CU a couple of years ago when I purchased my Toyota Tacoma for up to 40K at 100% at their very best rate. We have a higher income since then and I paid off the Toyota in only two years and have a very low almost paid for mortgage payment. I might consider reapplying with my wife on the application first since she has 20 years on her job. I only have 10 and putting 2K down payment. When we bought our 12 year old Accord Honda Financial Services turned us down for financing too, no matter how much we would put down. We were approved however by GMAC at their A tier financing without any problem. If I have too I’ll wait until next year and use our credit union again and hope that Honda has a dealer incentive to help lower the price and replace the low interest rates advertised to the consumers. Also, the new Nissan Altima is looking better all the time.

    ctyankee:

MI sales tax is 6%, and since I transfered a plate, I paid $23 for title and registration.
  • omc92omc92 Member Posts: 5
I got approved on internet and actually used the certificate at local dealership. It is valid for a month. I guess that you only need to re-apply if it does expires.
  • tcvb22tcvb22 Member Posts: 50
Did you show the CT dealers your written quote and they said that they wouldn't match it?

I got an OTD quote for an EX V6 for $26,286 from cars direct but am still doing a little more checking around (outside CT)
  • odyssey1odyssey1 Member Posts: 23
OK, we went ahead and applied online and got approved. I faxed this to our dealer and he said it should be "no problem" to get the 1.9% financing. I hope that is true--our FICO is not 720!

The deal we negotiated is $23,700 +TTL for an EX-L with Navi. Anyone do better? Tell me quick while I still have time to negotiate!
  • ctyankeectyankee Member Posts: 8
I didn't show the CT dealers the quote but asked for their best deal. Then I told them I could get it for less somewhere else so why would I give them more money? I felt a little bad doing it but I had to force myself because I'm sure they would screw me if possible. One lowered his price by $200 when I got up to leave but it still was $830 less than my best price. After I left I didn't feel so bad, after all it's just business and I should shop and get the best deal I can.
  • clovisguyclovisguy Member Posts: 49
How much are people putting down and how many months financing are you getting approved for? I am beginning to wonder if I was not preapproved because I applied for 100% financing with no money down at 60 months? I could handle enough down to cover tax and license fees right now ($2000) and 36 month payments at $600 per month. Honda assumes that you are going to purchase an Accord at their retail price when you try and figure payments on their website. Their is little risks if someone purchases an Accord and finances only the invoice amount and has very good credit. Honda doesn't offer you the choice of a rebate or special financing like Nissan and Toyota and many other car companies!
  • odyssey1odyssey1 Member Posts: 23
We got approval for 60 months, but did put down a chunk of change--$7000.
  • jag6jag6 Member Posts: 4
Hey everybody, Honda announced a recall on some 2004 and 2005 Accords due to a potential for the driver's front airbag to tear upon deployment. Apparently it will be pretty easy to fix. Whether or not the vehicle is under the recall depends on where it was manufactured (for that they need the VIN). Anyway, could come in handy as a bargaining chip.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
Any affected car will be fixed before it's delivered. Honda discovered this problem on their own and quickly jumped to action. I like that.

I'm from Worcester, MA. I'm about 40 miles outside of Boston, and within a 30 minute drive there's like 10 or 15 dealers. This past summer I bought a 2004 EX Auto Coupe w/SAB for $19800 before tax from Bernardi Honda. I found them to be really easy to deal with. Plus, they're closer than Boch, they're located in Natick, MA. My advice is have them match your Boch quote. And don't be afraid to walk away and tell them to get back to you when they decide whether or not to match it. That's what I did to get my price. Hope this helps.
  • tcvb22tcvb22 Member Posts: 50
    dsertsun,

    Is that $24,450 OTD?
  • jag6jag6 Member Posts: 4
Perhaps not a bargaining chip, but: people need to be aware of it. My dealer didn't mention it and didn't seem to know whether my newly purchased car (how long had it been sitting around on the lot?) was under the recall (turns out it wasn't). He definitely knew about the recall. In short, they sold me a car they knew *might* be under a recall without telling me about it. Also, if I buy a 2004 model, no chance it was fixed when it was delivered. Buyer beware.

I just happened to check Honda Accord prices on carsdirect.com today and they are lower then before, at least for the California area. Maybe, because it is getting close to the end of the month and the dealers need to increase sales?

Just picked up a graphite 2005 EX V6 with Leather at O'Donnell Honda in Ellicott City, MD. This is our 2nd Accord from this dealership (1st was a '98 LX), and we continue to be very happy with their deals and service. We got it for invoice ($24,024), and got almost $2k more for our '01 New Passat than anyone else would offer (hard to sell right now).

If anyone is in the MD region looking for a Honda, I highly recommend this dealer. In fact, we drove 40 miles out of our way (Heritage Honda is in our hometown) to buy from O'Donnell. I love it! :)

What would be a reasonable price in the Cleveland, OH area? Are there any dealers who provide good prices over the Internet? Couple of years ago, I tried to get quotes over the Internet from some dealers in CA. All I got was MSRP.

    Thanks in advance.
  • blue97blue97 Member Posts: 4
I am interested in the LX model.

Just bought a 2005 Accord V6-EX in Graphite Pearl. My cost was $24,100 plus T&L. Use Edmunds and submit for quotes via email. Use the quotes as starting point for negotiations. My lowest quote was 24200 and I took the email to the dealership where I've bought 2 Hondas before and they beat by $100. So I saved 3 tanks of gas.

    hi all,

should i be suspicious if i get too good a deal on car....a 2003 accord coupe EX V6 leather auto silver/black with 14k miles for $17K....the carfax report is all good...i am in the richmond, VA

but the dealer doesn't really seem to a used car dealer, though the website says it is...he has just 6 cars in his inventory and of different makes...i think it is more of a auto service center which also sells a few cars...

i am suspicious coz the price is atleast 3k less than edmunds suggested price...are the edmunds prices really a good ballpark?

buying my first car..so any advice would be a great help..

    thanks,
    srikk

Take it to a good independent mechanic and have it checked over. That should relieve your worries.

    Hi Guys,

I've finally decided on a new 2005 Accord EX w/ Nav (4cyl). How much (under/over invoice) should I expect to pay in Southern Cali? Are there any dealers in particular I should contact?

BTW - the brake lights on the 2005s are so much uglier than the 2004s :(

    Thanks!

What kind of vehicles are sold in an auction?

I have a carfax report which says no problems, but also lists as vehicle sold in an auction in the detailed report.

Is an auction a read flag?

As ramped has already suggested, take it to a trusted mechanic, preferably one who knows body work when he sees it. I recently traded in my '01 Passat which had body work (hit a deer), but it never showed on the Carfax report.

I see CarsDirect is selling Accords for $50 under invoice. Is there some secret dealer incentive kicking around? Is it a good time to make a deal, so should I wait until Dec.?

I want to buy an EX-V6 by years end. Best quote so far is $24,275 w/o nav, 26,750 w/nav. I'm in the DC / North Virginia area. Anyone got tips on a good dealer and pricing. It looks like many are paying about invoice for these cars. ALSO, Is the Nav worth the extra cost? Thanks, ,Jerome and Kathy
  • novacouplenovacouple Member Posts: 31
I read that there is a $1500 dealer rebate through Jan. 2. I also hear that the week between Christmas and New Years is a great time to buy (most any car, not just Honda)., jmc
