Looks like a great deal to me unless the dealer slaps on a high document prep fee.

I paid $22,700 including ALL fees except for tax and license (amounts remitted to DMV and state of CA).

I bought my '04 EX-L AT PZEV sedan in Aug.,'03 at the introduction of the '04 model year, and paid $238 over invoice. That was a good deal at the time.

The invoice price of the '05 might be slightly higher--transportation cost rose from $460 to $515, too.

Your price of $22,300 for an '05 EX-L with AT seems low to me--let us know if you really can buy that car at close to that price after all fees are added.......Richard

I'm shopping for a 4-cyl 4-door auto EX-L w/o Nav. and with PZEV. The best price I've been offered is $22,300 + tax, title, plates & reg. I'm not sure if there is a doc. fee yet. I'm from the Long Island area. Has anyone priced a similar model recently? Just cuirous if I need to do some more shopping to get a better price or if I should quit while I'm ahead. TIA...

Yesterday I went with a friend and he ended up buying a 2005 EX-L with Nav (Northern CA). He got something like $200 below inv (don't remember exact amt).

One thing I haven't heard before nor seen mentioned on these boards is Honda Care. Have you heard about it. It's $1800 7yr/100,000 mi coverage but it's NOT like a typical extended warranty. If at the end of the coverage you do not use the coverage, you get your $1800 back in full. If the car needs any repair work during the coverage period, Honda covers the repairs for free.
  • bd21bd21 Member Posts: 437
If you haven't heard of it, you must be new to the boards. It has been talked about a lot. That warranty can be bought for around $900 from other dealers on line. Personally, I think it is a waste of money. Hondas are very reliable cars and the chance of you actually using this warranty is very slim. Of course if you just can't sleep without an extended warranty, buy it. Read the fine print on dealer required maintenance. It's going to cost you more than you think to get your money back, if you don't use the warranty. Read all of the fine print before you buy it.

I just purchased a 2005 LX sedan 4 cyl automatic. The first place I went to quoted me 18,900 + 95 fee, but really low balled my trade in. The second place quoted me 18,945 + 95 fee, but gave me 1000 more for my trade in. I ended up taking that deal.

Thanks for the info on the Honda Care. I know they're reliable, I have had three and will be buying my fourth from the same dealer tonight.
I've been to several dealer's web sites here in Northern CA shopping for the car and I haven't seen the warranty for sale. Can you give me some dealer names?

Dealer required maintenance is not going to be a problem with me. This will be my wife's car and she has followed that schedule religiously with her past and present Accord and I don't expect her to treat this car any different.

This forum and others like it are not very helpful because almost no one discloses the details of the entire sales transaction. To say “I got a 2005 4 cyl. LX AT for $20,000” is meaningless because the reader doesn’t know whether additional documentary and other dealer fees were added (in some areas these fees, printed on the order form and disguised as part of tax, tag, and license, can approach $1,000 in total), whether there was a trade-in, whether an extended warranty, credit life insurance, or credit disability insurance was purchased, or whether there was dealer financing. There is a tremendous profit to the dealer in the extended warranty sales (extended warranties are sold at 2 to 4 times the dealer’s cost), and the dealer's commission on credit life and credit disability insurance is 40% to 60% of the total premium. Dealers sell the financing notes the same day to a bank or other lender for an immediate profit. A dealer will sell a car for what appears to be near his cost if he knows he is making several thousand dollars from fees, an extended warranty, and these other items. It would be helpful if writers would at least disclose the total drive-out (or “out the door”) price, and the individual items that make up that total, such as sales tax, license fee, etc. (I suspect that the “plus TTL” seen in this forum includes dealer fees in many cases.)

Hopefully you will find some useful information on the board. Many posters do find the information here helpful. There is no form or format, since it is a discussion, so you are responsible to interpret information. Some people on this board are very specific with every detail of the transaction, while others mention a price without details. It never hurts to ask the poster if you want more details. Hope you find what you are looking for.

I've said many times on this forum that the best way to show a car's price is to state the cost of the car including transportation and document fees--everything that the dealer can retain from the sale of the car.

The "document fee" is pure revenue for the dealer and if it's high, it should be considered part of the negotiated price--buyers should try to reduce a high doc fee accordingly so the final price is fair.

In California there's a law that limits the doc fee to $45 plus a $5 tire disposal fee. So, we Californians pay $50 maximum added to the sale.

Some people in other states have reported doc fees of $300 or more and that's really part of the selling price and should be negotiated down to the extent possible.

License fees, taxes and anything else that the dealer must collect but remit to the state, DMV, or other agency should NOT be included because those kinds of added costs differ from state to state, the dealer doesn't benefit from them, and they aren't negotiable.

Similarly, trade-ins and dealer-installed extras should NOT be included in my opinion because Honda Accords are priced very clearly by model with no factory extras. If a trade-in is involved, the numbers aren't very useful, so only clean deals should guide people here. Same goes for financing arrangements which are separate--you're likely to get the best financing from your bank rather than letting the dealer handle it unless there's a low-rate promotion. In any event, it's a separate matter from buying the car.

Final, "out-the-door" prices can be useful ONLY for people who live in the same area and pay the same taxes, license, and other fees--"out-the-door" prices can be very misleading to others, however.

Prices should be reported in a consistent way so people living in different areas can compare their deals. Just my opinions here :-).......Richard

Just to add to the data:

I bought a 2004 EX-L automatic with Navigation last week at Gillman Honda (in Shertz, TX., just outside San Antonio) for $23,000 plus TT&L.

Since used 2004's without Navigation (and 15-20K miles) are being advertised around that price, I thought it was a pretty good deal.

    Hi,

I think I got a great deal from Lanier Honda. I got my 2005 Accord EX Automatic for net amount ~21400$ cash.

That includes a 1000$ trade-in and 6% sales tax, title and all other fees.

The vehicle came with a few installed accesories which were included without extra charge:
    Wheel locks,
    Mud guards,
"Stripe" sticker on side bodies (is pretty simple and nice)

If you calculate the corresponding base price, I effectively got it for less than invoice. And note that I feel the 1000$ for my trade-in was not a bad deal at all.

The buying experience was generally pleasant, but I was well prepared. I would not have got that deal if I had not been so. There was a tendency to charge additional fees etc.. But the deal finally made it. The sales person was very nice. The guy from business who was making me sign the financial papers was not as nice. I would not advise trusting them outright with a deal, but there is certainly room for getting a great one!

    Thanks

PS: I may not be replying to any questions. This is only FYI. Good luck!

Because I think $17,500 is a little unreasonable for a 2004 EX V6 Accord. You can barely get a 2002 EX V6 for $17,500. Assuming you mean $22,900 I think you should definitely be able to get the EX V6 for $22900 ... I would offer $22,000.
  • slentinislentini Member Posts: 11
Actually I meant $6000.00, I was told that by a gentleman I meet in Meineke whom was in the car business. He stated that all cars de-appreciate the most in the first year.
I thought was thinking more in lines of what you said.
    Thanks for the feedback.

I'm seeking the above car and currently own a 1991 Honda Accord LX 4 cyl with 115,000 miles. The dealership has offered the car for $23,500 but I've been told that since it's the end of the year the car should be around $6000 less. If anyone could guide me in the right direction I would truly appreciate it.

    Thanks

Could you tell me what kind of additional fees they wanted to add on?
And what is the actual fee you paid?
What kind of car you traded in for?
I do have a old truck to get rid of.
    Thanks in advance.

Colleen, does your price of 24,238 include dest. fee? Im about to purchase same vehicle for 24,500 which includes dest. fee. Does anyone know what Honda Finance offers for interest rates on new Accords this month???

Just wanted to share my shopping experience. Bought '04 Accord EX (4 cyclinder) Sedan Auto with curtain airbags for $20,600 out the door. Including all taxes and tags (MA 5% tax) and such. No wheel locks, pin stripe or mud flaps though...

We were actually able to buy a 2005 ex-l with nav, for $700 more than that(23,700), today at a dealer in New York.

Got a quote here in IL for 05 EX-L with Navi. for $24360 plus TTL and doc fee of $ 54 is it a good deal? Still trying to shop for good price or should I wait for the holidays?

Wondering if this is a good deal in the San Francisco Bay Area.

2005 Accord LX 4DR AT for $18,198 (including destination) plus tax title and license.

Am also being offered 1.9% financing for 60 months.
  • tcvb22tcvb22 Member Posts: 50
I'm going to be purchasing a new 2005 ex 3.0 Sedan within the next 2 weeks and was wondering what price to offer the dealer.

The MSRP is $27,215 and the Invoice is $24,539 which includes the $515 dset. charge.

I know that the title, transfer, conv. fees etc... are not included in this price but what a good price to offer.

    Thanks

Anyone use Huntington Honda in Huntington, NY? Have a quote of $18495 + TTL for a 2005 Accord sedan LX AT which is quite a bit lower than any quote I've gotten in Connecticut. Are they reputable? They have several complaints on the Long Island Better Business Bureau but nothing excessive. Thanks.
  • 3c33c3 Member Posts: 76
Invoice for 2005 LX 4DR AT is $18,944. I'm surprised that these cars are selling for so much under the invoice at this time. jd510, which dealer is it?
  • dsertsundsertsun Member Posts: 6
Offer $24,450. Expect to pay no more than $24,575
  • jd510jd510 Member Posts: 6
If you post your email I will give you contact information, it is an east bay dealer. I'd prefer not to have the dealership stormed before I can pick my color this week.

This will be the third accord that I'm buying from this dealer in the past year.

It is not a good idea to post your email address on the forum. Better idea is to mark your email as public to Edmund's members. And dealer info is allowed on the forum. Go ahead and share with all!

Sorry, since we exist to provide a consumer information outlet rather than an e-mail exchange clearinghouse, requests for information via e-mail aren't appropriate. If you don't wish to make your dealership name public, then we're not going to start providing a venue to facilitate private exchange. That goes against our purpose for existing!

I did not say that I was unwilling to share the name of the dealership, I did not want to post it at this immediate moment when I am in the process of purchasing my own car.

Once the deal is done I may post.

I will soon be buying an '05 EX-V6 with Nav. Invoice from a few sites is at 25,821.
Is this accurate? How low have you seen dealers willing to go for this model?

    Thank you for your input.

"Invoice" price is manufacturer's invoice price, not the price you paid.

Assuming yours is auto transmission, invoice price is $22,561.
  • tcvb22tcvb22 Member Posts: 50
Is that the out the door price I should offer or do I add the conv fee, title, transfer and tax to it?
  • nn369nn369 Member Posts: 4
sorry, 22873 was the price I paid which is about 312 above invoice.
I had asked for 24600 OTD including all fees, destination charge, taxes, registration and bogus(Documentation) fees.
  • nn369nn369 Member Posts: 4
OTD is out the door price!! The dealer can adjust the breakup, including any fees as he wishes. In retrospect I think I could have gotten the dealer to come down by another 300 dollars but had a time constraint.
  • jd510jd510 Member Posts: 6
Deal is done: 2005 Accord LX 4DR AT for $18,198 (including destination) plus tax title and license. Sticker was $21.1K.

Dealer was Autonation Honda in Fremont. I dealt with John Kurtz (Internet Sales), he made the buying experience easy, and if you are looking for a new Honda in the San Francisco bay area, his prices cannot be beat (this is my third accord in the last year from him), although I think his current pricing is $200 higher than what I got in at. Still a great deal and a great experience.
  • 3c33c3 Member Posts: 76
Thanks for the update. I actually already know about that dealer/rep. When I was shopping for an Accord for a relative a few months ago, no other dealer could touch his price.
