Can you really get the Accord's exact same navigation system installed after market? I can't imagine that could be much cheaper with all the labor I'd think must go into something like that.

And Rainbow24, get over it man. I am sick of your shirt and milk analogies. As someone stated, we all know that we each pay the same price for the same gallon of milk, and, for a shirt, we just wait till it goes on sale, use a coupon, take out a store credit card that we never again use... or go somewhere else! Please, stop getting mad that customers are trying to learn to play the game whose rules you guys laid down. I was again givin the run around yesterday, or do you say "taken for a rocket ride" when I inquired about an Accord NAVI. I had stated my price in writing, then spoken on the phone and again stated my price, rebuffed a higher counter-offer, and then, when told that if I was willing to buy by the end of the month he could do it at my price, I was instructed to fax over a finance application. I instead chose to drive over, and was told by the internet sales manager's manager, that the internet sales manager would not be authorized to sell me that car at that price and that he wouldn't even have that car this month. I was very frank, this price and we have a final sale, anything else and we don't, and had a verbal agreement (not worth the paper they're written on), only to hear that whatever I'd been told was not even possible once I actually went in person. Thank god I did not fax over a credit application! So please, don't compain. Sell it to me or don't, but don't complain that I'm haggaling... as kids would say, "you started it."

When buying your new 2003 Accord LX 4cyl
auto, were you charged extra for your KARR, Keyless Entry Alarm Upgrade Module? We were able to purchase our car at invoice but
we then charged an additional $399 for KARR.
  • fotomaniakfotomaniak Member Posts: 39
looks like it's just another way of artificially increasing the cost of the car. I wonder if there was any upgrade installed... is there a way to check this?

Some dealers give you good price, lower then anybody else, but then when you say "Ok, I am buying the car at this price" they will add some fees on top of this
like Delivery Charge(which is already paid by destination charge)

i.e. I got quote for EX V6 for $500 over invoice
the total is $24175 (including destination charge)
from first dealer, the other dealer gave me a a price that was slightly lower 24000, but then tried to add delivery charge of $460(he claimed it was differend from destination charge) and document fee of $168(too high I think) and computer fee $30 (to put my info in the computer!! ;o))))
so in the end the price was higher than the first dealer offered
after I said that I don't want to pay destination fee twice, second dealer came up with a quote which was about the same as the first one.

    Hey all,

remember me? The one aiming for 25,200 on the NAVI, well I've come close, 25,579, with the 3.9 financing... I'm going in this afternoon. I'll let you know the main details if the deal is closed at this price. And if I get screwed around with, well, you'll be sure to hear that too. FYI, another dealer also offered 25,673 (but just doesn't have the car in TODAY), so contacting the internet sales managers only has yeilded results so far. Wish me luck!

Just purchased a new Accord LX 4 Door Manual for 15.9k + dest etc. (invoice = 17.2k), as advertised in the Globe. Originally looking at a Civic, but went on vacation for a week and found that Accord prices had fallen significantly...the ultimate sale price was just $300 more than quotes received at end of October for a Civic automatic!

For others in the New England area, you should be able to get great deals on DXs & LXs (manual) and at least invoice on automatics. Don't know about EXs. Seems like the new car market isn't doing too well in New England right now, so great deals are out there!

Just bought our blue Accord tonight. $300 over invoice with 3.99% financing. We think it was a good deal...

thats one hell of a deal. are you BSing us?

I went to a local dealer in the bay area today to deal on 2003 Accord EX V6 with dealer installed option (wheel lock, trunk bucket and floor mat) at a final deal of $24,750. Is it a good deal? It is almost $675.00 over invoice. Will try another dealer next week. Any comment will be appreciated.
  • senmensenmen Member Posts: 2
That's the price. They were offering 2.9% financing, but the price would have been about $600 more. So we took the 3.99% financing for 60 months (through Honda) and $300 over invoice. (The finance rate through our credit union would have been 6%). There was not haggling, so I wonder if we could have gone lower.

We didn't really want leather, but the only blue EXs on the lot had leather. The 4cyl has plenty of power for us.

We drove a Mazda 6 the other night. My husband really like its exterior and the way it drives, but the Accord is more comfortable and a better vehicle for the price (IMHO). I just like Honda!

Ok, after months of agony I got my NAVI and it was almost painless in the end. I got it for $25,579 from Jim Coleman Honda in Clarksville, MD -just in time for my 5 year HS reunion! (to be specific it's the EX-V6 in Silver).

I had emailed all the local sales managers and they came back with the best price and were the first to tell me that this weekend the 3.99% financing was back on... which was funny as many of the other dealers just the day before were saying I wouldn't find 3.9%, which was one of my sticking points for buying it anywhere.

At first I was very wary, thinking it was a demo or something, and expecting a higher price in person... but they were very good. I love the car, it is smooth as silk, honestly. It's scary how easy it is to be way over the speed limit as it is soo smooth. Well this is long, if anyone wants more details just ask... Good luck out there! - Ben

I just came back from a Honda dealer in Winter Park, Fl (Orlando area) that was charging $3000 to $5000 above MSRP! yes they were charging almost $30,000 for a EX-V6 without the Navi. They wanted close to $40K for the S2000 and Civics in the $25,000 range?. Are they nuts? The extra $3000/5000 was labeled as 'admin fees' Don't like dealers who play this type of the game.

No B/S…15.9 + destination for a 2003 Accord LX 4-dr sedan, manual. In fact, I just checked the dealer’s web site and saw their new add for 15,455, $500 less! Sigh. At least I got the color I wanted. Here’s the url with the dealer’s (Herb Chambers) ad: http://www.herbchambers.com/location/boston-honda/images/ads/HONDA.jpg

Since I saw a Bernardi Honda ad matching the price that I got, I’m sure other area dealers are coming within spitting distance of this lower price. What I’m taking from this well-below-invoice pricing is that the Accords/Civics aren’t selling as well as dealers had expected here in New England. Dealers are offering VERY low prices on basic manual transmission models to get customers into the dealership. One should be able to get invoice on LX and DX automatics with a minimum of sales trauma around here, and probably less with some haggling. As for higher end models or other areas of the country/Canada, I can’t say much, though I hope everyone will find the same thing that I found here…high inventories & low prices!

As for the car, what can I say…comfortable, fun to drive, smooth shifting, & much more powerful than I expected (easily up to 70 in third gear)! Can’t imagine what a v-6 would be like! Just hope this new generation accord will be as reliable as the previous one!

Bought a 2003 redondo red exv6 sedan with rear deck lid spoiler, fog lights, gold kit for front and rear, wheel locks, auto dimming mirror with compass, trunk cargo net, 2 extra master keys and a red honda hat from Mel Rampton Honda in Sacramento. Eric Swanson is the internet manager.Total price for the car plus accessories was $25,300.00 out the door plus $45.00 doc fee, $209.00 license, $5.00 tire fee and sales tax. After making the deal over the internet Eric honored every thing that he had promised with no hassle or trying to jack up the price when I arrived at the dealership. I actually flew in 700 miles from out of state to pick up the car. I'm a happy driver now

Does anyone know how much the newest accord coupe auto fully loaded with leather and navigation cost? Is it a good car?
  • coupemancoupeman Member Posts: 9
Just picked up my 03 Coupe yesterday. $23,765 ,which is invoice w/a 4.7 rate. Loved the 4 door also which has a little smoother ride, but the coupe has a great style about it. Central Jersey dealership-DCH.

    Hello-

I plan on buying a 2003 Honda Accord Coupe V6 EX with the navi system within the next week. I've checked just about every website I can find and from what I can tell the dealer invoice is around $25,102. I'm in the Bay Area, and I was wondering if anyone from the Bay Area has purchased this car and where they went, how much they paid, and what interest rate they got. The same info from other parts of the country would also be helpful.
  • ssaclubssaclub Member Posts: 13
How is the NAVI system, worth the extra price? Does it cover all of North America (e.g. including Canada and the U.S.)? Were any manuals on the lot when you went shopping (EX-4-manual)?
  • mymomymo Member Posts: 15
The navigation system was a hoot to see demonstrated, but for me a $10.00 map was much cheaper and more practical. If price is not a concern go for it and you will love it.
  • amadridamadrid Member Posts: 3
Well I've been reading the posts from everyone and as far as price went - I think I got a fair deal. In Southern California there wasn't anyone willing to come off MSRP...BUT...Vista Honda in Ventura, CA is the best! I have had my 96 Civic in for all it's maintenance and they ALWAYS do a great job! They never try to rip me off, and they email me when my car is ready after being serviced, and they call me to make sure I'm happy- after every service they call!! I chose another Honda because of the dealership's service and staff..by the way..they were voted the best Honda dealership for service in the nation! As far as the deal on my new Accord, it was COMPLETELY PAINLESS and I got accessories at a huge discount..so I'm satisfied!!
  • cds12cds12 Member Posts: 139

Hi! Could you please tell the name of the dealership and name of a sales person and tell a little bit about how you got the price. I.e. was this no haggle offer, or have you been negociation for long time etc...

    Thanks!

Recommendations for Southern California Honda dealers who are selling Accords at or near invoice?

    Thanks in advance!
  • umyayaumyaya Member Posts: 123
IMO the Navi, if money isn't the tightest thing, is worth it. I love the system! If I had a family I think this would be the best thing ever. Yes, it cover the continental U.S., and Canada, not Alaska or Mexico. There are a few small streets I've noticed not on it, but those are the same that are not on my dad's 02 TL so I don't know what the deal is. And it even has a really neat feature that tracks you if you go "off road." It leaves little white dots every few hundred feet so that you can find you way back.

I do not know about other models' availablity. If your near the area I would give the dealership a call. They were great to deal with. No games were played, and they were very knowledgable. They showed me many things I hadn't been shown when I been at another dealer for a test drive, and the salesman, Jonathan Barnswell, even sat in the car for me for nearly an hour after I'd signed all the papers showing me the ins and outs of the system. It was a very good experience.

And my father, who never likes any salesman, was very impressed with the salesman, and the dealership's customer satisfaction program.

Oh, one of my favorate things in the NAVI is that you can set it, using your voice (of course) to display any combination of things, such as ATM's, gas stations, hotels, restaurants, that are along the road as you drive. As you drive the navi system is usually in map mode, displaying where you are as you go, and it just puts little icons indicating the gas station, etc, locations on all the roads within the screen. Way cool for a trip... and it has a "trip computer" funtion that instantaneously shows your gas milage at your level of acceleration, your average gas milage since you last reset it, and how many more miles you can go until you will runout (given the average gas use of the last several miles). Neat eh, I like to leave it in that screen allot for fun.

How exactly does this navigation system work? does it connect to the sattelite? is there is a monthly fee to use it or you just buy it and that's it? Do you have to buy new CDS/DVDS with maps every so often?
  • victorsamvictorsam Member Posts: 9
Thank you for your post Umyaya. I too am looking for the Accord EX V6 with Navigation. I just started my search and so far I've been quoted $26,160 which includes destination charges. This is about $600 over invoice so that is good in my opinion.

Is your price of $25,579 before destination charges? I would think so otherwise you scored a deal of about $100 over invoice.

Lastly, other than the agreed upon price and destination charges, what other fees are there? Is document fee the same as the title fee?

Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks also for the post on the navigation. My friend owns an Acura MDX and it was quite helpful for him and I think this would be a great help to the misses as she doesn't do well with maps.

To answer your question, fotomaniak, there are no monthly fees for the navigation system. Once purchased, it is yours to use. My understanding is that it does connect to a satellite.

Yeah, the NAVI is yours for life, free, except that I think you can buy new discs every year or two that are $250 or so, but depending on where you live, I don't know if you need to do it that often. The system just recieves a signal from satelite transmissions, and uses it's computer to figure out where it must be to get those types of signals (I think it's like that), and uses the info on the disc to see what's around your location. The other thing that's fun is to be able to say the radio station, or radio station preset you want. Like, "Radio 94.7 fm" and it will go to it.

As for my price, the 25,579 was the out the door price. The only extra was MD's 5% tax, and $149 fees for the dealer to do all the registration and stuff so I don't have to go to the DMV or anything (this is a worth-while fee that is really about equal to what you would pay to do it all- correct me if I'm wrong). So yeah, I think I was able to get a good price, especially as they also had the 3.9 financing back on for last weekend. At least I hope it was a good price as I can't do anything about it now. Again, it was at Jim Coleman Honda. They didn't play a single game, like "tell me what other quotes you get." And if your in the MD, VA area I would stay the heck away from Rosenthal. They tried the bait and switch! Said I have one at that price, we need to act fast, fax over your financing papers. Instead I just drove over and their manager was shocked at the price I said I had been promised and said no way and he didn't have the car anyway. Again, I just found websites for the local dealers and then found their internet sales managers email and sent him a note. Actually, I'll paste in what I wrote most of them following this.

Anyone know a cheap place to get the Trunk Tray? I don't think Jim Coleman had it at the time.
  • umyayaumyaya Member Posts: 123
This is what I sent dealers and it got me my price in two days...

To be sure we have no confusion I will address all my questions to you following the Carbargains outline I apply towards all dealers. I am willing and able to purchase the EX-V6 NAVI in Black with Birds Eye look trim, or Graphite Pearl as soon as I find a reasonable offer. I will not share your price with other dealers, nor will I agree to any sale until I have received from you in writing (email is acceptable) answers to the following questions.

I'm contacting each dealer on my list and asking what each wants as a markup or markdown from factory invoice cost. You have quoted me $25,479, plus $100. To be sure all quotes are on the same basis I need to go over with you exactly what charges show up on your out the door price. Is the it the $25,579 listed above or do you plan to add a dealer advertising fee, dealer prep fee, port charges, other miscellaneous charges. And how much do you plan to charge for each? You have stated you have no doc. fees, will there be any dealer add-ons you expect to charge for, wheel locks, ect., for which I have no interest? If you do not have above color will you exchange for it, or order it, and will you add a fee for that? For how long will your offer be valid?

My intent is to be as straight forward and honest with you as possible and avoid unnecessary confusion, I hope your answer to the above questions will bring us to the end of any necessary negotiations. Thank you for your time.
  • amadridamadrid Member Posts: 3
To cds12...yeah I paid MSRP but price was not an issue, my time is important and a stress free sale is paramount to the haggling and bit@#ing that most dealers want to play. I don't have time to make a ton of phone calls or drive 100's of miles to save a thousand bucks. it's not worth it. You forget though that I got everything else at DEALER COST - and free services for 3 years...
  • victorsamvictorsam Member Posts: 9
Thank you Umyaya for the helpful tips on Dealing with Dealers. Seems like you really understand the Dealership "game" as I am new to this. It took me a little while for me to understand that dealers have their own way of doing things like not quoting any price whatsoever other than MSRP until one sits down.

Your letter is very direct and focuses on any possible "hidden" costs. Thanks again.
  • febrezeefebrezee Member Posts: 4
Gald to see you are so happy with your Nav....

Umyaya is absolutly correct.. If you want the best price and the easiest experience just contant three local dealership's with exactly what you are willing to pay and have them spell out exactly how the different numbers come together

Either the dealership will agree to your price, or give you their absolute bottom line...

I was shopping for a Toyota during the Thanksgiving weekend when I came across the 03 Honda Accord Coupe. It caught my eye right away with its sporty, elegant look. I did some research on the internet yesterday, comparing the Accord and the Camry. Accord turned out to be a winner: with similar engines and equipment, Accord is less expensive. I called a few dealers in the Chicago area this morning, directly asking them how much they were willing to go under the invoice. To my surprise, a few dealer's offered a few hundred bucks below the invoice. I went to one of them that had a red EX 5A (the only color I was looking for). I ended up getting the leather trim. The dealer offered me $100 below invoice ($ 21777.49). The other fees I paid include doc services ($51.44), new licence plate ($143.00) and a hefty tax. I also got a special financing from Honda of 3.99% for 60 months. I was surprised the price dropped so fast for the 2003 models. The dealers here were even advertising $ 400-500 below invoices for some 4-dr models. I had been a loyal Toyota owner for the past 10 years. But I think the new Hondas are a better value.

Dealer was DCH in Old Bridge, NJ. Met salesman a month before when I just began looking and they gave me a price of 25,100 saying there was a little more room if i was going to buy. Got a call last day of month and he said they were trying to make a number and for the day- invoice, no strings attached. That was good enough for me. Salesman was Jim, very thorough, personable, knowledgable, no pressure or baloney. Best car buying exp. since buying an Infiniti J30 in '93. Hope the car does as well. So far we're still on the honeymoon.

  • fotomaniakfotomaniak Member Posts: 39
Thanks for the info! That's very interesting. about 3 weeks ago, I submitted quote request from edmunds, and a guy named Paul Rittberg from Oldbridge Honda responded with a quote Invoice(including destination) + $900
he did not try to play games ;o), but did not want to negociate at all :(
Could you please tell what other fees you have been charged in addition to the price of the car?
    (document fee, DMV etc...)
did you buy any additional accessories?
This guy quoted me 350 for auto day/night rearview mirror... which has MSRP of $250, that's why I wonder what you were charged for dealer installed accessories.
Do they offer extended warranty? if yes, what's the price?

    Thanks!

    Hey all,

As I realize in my posts I split up the dealer info, again, I went to Johnathan Barnswell, at Jim Coleman Honda. Not only did I not have to "play any games," but they, John especially, were very willing to go over everything in the car with me. The place closed at 9, but they showed me all the car's gadgets till nearly 10pm. Well, if that sounds like a big plug, it is, because it was such a more pleasant experience than my previous ones while shopping. Good luck out there... I'd buy quickly, it looks to me like the market, for this car (NAVI), and in general, is heating up again.

Accord Sedan EXV 6 and paid $525 above invoice:$24,200. Beautiful car, Graphite Pearl with gray leather interior. The Dealer was Bay Ridge Honda in Brooklyn NY. Dealt with Frank, Internet Manager. No hassels, spent 15 minutes discussing price. He asked is I had done my "homework", told him "of course" (being a town haller), he quoted $24,300. I countered can he do a little better, he dropped $100. No dealer prep fees, no advertising fees, no add-ons, just reg fees and sales tax. I felt this was fair price, no sense grinding for a few hundred, too much stress for so little gain.
F&I guy didn't push anything, in fact, I asked about extended warranty. Great experience, after reading here about dealer horror stories, I wasn't sure what to expect. I would recommend this dealer to anyone in the NYC area, especially Frank, but just make sure you have good info when you walk into the store.
  • fotomaniakfotomaniak Member Posts: 39
When you bought your new honda were you offered (or asked for) an extended warranty? what was the price? what was the covered? any discounts for buying the warranty? (i.e. lower apr on financing)
  • maxpower02maxpower02 Member Posts: 103
the F&I guy handed me a list of available accessories and extended warranties that were available for the Accord. He did not offer or push anything on the list.

I had gone to hondawarranty.com and got a $820 quote for a 7yr 75M 0 Deductible and they also added a $75 discount for $820-75=$745. I printed this out and asked if the dealer could match the price. I read here at TH that anything under $800 was a good price for the warranty. They said they could match it and I bought it. Remember, this is for HondaCare, which is backed by American Honda, they will try to sell you a cheaper warranty by other companies, but this is the best for a Honda (IMHO). Go to hondawarranty and check out the coverage, its pretty comprehensive. After seeing all the electronics and computer supported systems on the EXV6, I'm glad I bought it.
  • gotribegotribe Member Posts: 101
Glad to hear you had a good purchase experience buying your Accord. I did too, and also did my homework. However, do you get the impression that people who don't do their homework are inevitably getting gouged by dealers--paying either close to MSRP, or even heaven forbid above? Would your dealer have gouged you for $1000 or more above the fair $24,300 if you didnt know better? Regrettably the answer is probably so. IMO that's why many people have such an unfavorable feeling about car dealers. It is too bad that people who are either unsophisticated in their buying technizues, or unable to afford a computer, are the ones that get taken, and often are the ones least able to afford it. The whole car buying process needs a major overhaul and I suspect that the internet buying phenomenom is the leading edge of new practices in the future.
  • maxpower02maxpower02 Member Posts: 103
The professor wrote on the board "Caveat Emptor" "Let the buyer beware". I believe that has not changed. If the buyer has no idea what a good fair price is, he will be gouged every time. That is in every business, not just cars.

I believe auto dealers are waking up to the fact that they cannot start at MSRP on a car if the individual has emailed 15 dealers in his area and has gotten a few good solid quotes. The last time I bought a car was in October 1994. What a difference since then. I visited 4 Honda dealerships and not one of them pressured me or quoted anything they could not deliver. In '94, I got all the lousy routines and sales pitches. Yes, the internet and the people using it are the ones changing the dealer practices, not the dealers.

The internet is available to the public in libraries, schools, even internet coffee houses, so people can get this info without owning a computer. Anyway that's my $.02 on the subject.

  • gotribegotribe Member Posts: 101
As a basic concept who can argue with "caveat emptor?", so I agree with you. But, discerning a "fair" price for a car just requires too much darn effort for many people. You seem to enjoy the give and take of the buying process, I do too because in a perverse way its a bit of fun. But many people are not good at it, not educated in it, and get taken advantage of when a dealer suspects an unsophisticated buyer. And we're often not just talking about a few bucks--it is often many thousands. Caveat emptor, sure. But, what about more equity in the process?
  • robc31robc31 Member Posts: 3
    Maxpower02,

Was your initial contact with the Internet Manager at Bay Ridge Honda by e-mail/phone or did you walk into the dealership and ask for Frank. I ask because from what I've been reading in the advice section of Edmunds, it seems as though it is best to contact the Internet Manager by e-mail or phone rather than walking into a dealership and being approached by a "traditional" salesman. Just curious as to what approach I should take when I am ready to purchase(probably within 2-3 weeks).

    Thanks.

How was your experience from Herb Chambers Honda in Boston? Any runaround or surprise fees? I might pick up a 5 speed DX and ship it out west and save a few bucks in the process. Bottom line, are they a reputable dealer or am I asking to be burned because the prices are so low? Thanks.

In Northern Virginia for an Accord LX 6 automatic with added foglights and added cassette player I've been quoted
    $ 22,960.00, including freight.

The tax, tags, and processing fees aren't included [and I'm not yet sure what and how much a "processing fee" is.]

Does this seem in line with what others are paying for this car? Thanks.
  • kudikudi Member Posts: 8
While I can't speak to the experience others have had with Herb Chambers, my experience with them was good: no hidden charges or unexpected gotchyas. I just mentioned the price I'd seen the ad and that's what they gave me.

As for shipping a car out west...it sounds complicated.

    1. Emissions issues? If you're in CA, the emission standards may be stricter than what they have in MA. Don't know if a MA new Accord would automatically pass CA standards w/out some sort of upgrade.

    2. Shipping...cost?

    3. Dealer logistics? I needed to arrange proof of insurance prior to taking the car off the lot + fees for titling & registration. Am not sure if these would be avoided if shipping the car & whether you'd have to pay the same again (+sales tax) when registering in your state. Finance, signatures, etc....

    Good luck!

Thanks for your response. I am in WA state, so the emissions should not be an issue. Shipping and other sundry transaction costs could add up to $1500 (whew!). Appears the ad price does not include transportation, so I need to add another 400-500 to the bottom line. Still would save some $$ but is it worth the risk?? Thanks where faith in the honesty of the dealer comes into play and you have helped me on that point. Thanks again.

I was quoted 23,800 for an 03 ex v6 with the wood trim with 50 doc fee.
