Depending on the condition of your 91 Accord, you should be able to get at least $1000 on a trade if not a little more.

Edmunds is awesome. Hopefully the auto makers won't force them to quit the town hall postings.
I'm leaning toward getting an accord with NAVI and wondering what you guys think is a good price to lock in (as that's what was asked). I'm thinking if I'm willing to put down a deposit a month before they get the car (and thus they get the holdback money), I'll only pay them 25,100 or so, as I'd seen the non-NAVI EX-V6 as cheap as $23,474. Guesses as to if that price, or better, is being had?
In the US, I understand that dealerships are selling at a 10% profit margin but I've heard that it's less than 10% here in Canada, is that right?
robtfl, I don't have the name of any dealers in Atlanta but since carsdirect guaranteed price in GA is $200 below invoice for an EX-L4, I guess they will tell you which dealer to go to that will honor their price. Keep us posted !
Thanks

robtfl, here're more dealers around Atlanta.

those going to Atlanta, please report back about how it was with the dealerships. I'm likely to go down and buy from Hennesey Honda but am waiting on a nice graphite V6 with NAVI. If you pick up a EX-V6 in Grahpite your buying my car... or at least the one I was initially going to get until I started leaning towards NAVI. Tell them they do right by you and I'm on my way.
Well anyway, please let us know how they were as I don't want to go down there for nothing if they play games.
It may also be due to Honda Motor Company having to restate their sales projections on 10/29. Their stock dropped 12% afterwards!
Ex. 20,000 new car - 15,000 trade in = 5000 taxable amount.
I may head on up to Atlanta if I can strike a deal.
Thanks!
I've been trying to find the same information. Has anyone bought a new Accord in Canada? Does anyone know the invoice price or the dealers margin?
Thanks
If not, what I expect to payfor '03 model? invoice + dest. is $21,159.
All in all, it was a pretty good experience, but the girl I worked with was pretty clueless. But they did accept my offer of $24000 without argument.
Good luck!
Although I can't answer the question directly, if you go to:

You can get the dealer invoice cost in Canada. The only downfall is that it will cost $25 to get the information. However, if you're serious about purchasing the vehicle, then $25 shouldn't matter since it will put you on a level playing field with the dealer. I have a friend who did this and he found it very usefull in negotiating with the dealer (on an Acura RSX).
Hope this helps.
Also reading about the tax incentive with trade-ins. Is there such an offer in NJ as well. Think of trading in a 99 Jetta.
Thanks

I'll let you when I go there.
Thanks for qgu for suggestion as well.
Thanks
I got the 3% over invoice deal from both internet dealerships here in Orlando. I went with the most professional - hands down, Classic Honda.
"Why should I wait to change the oil the first time?
Your Honda engine was delivered with an oil that is specially formulated for new engines that have not yet developed their "natural" wear patterns and may contain minute particles from the manufacturing process.
American Honda strongly recommends this special oil be left in the engine long enough for these wear patterns to develop, usually until the first maintenance interval specified in your Owner's Manual, based on your specific driving conditions."
$300 over invoice for a Graphite EX V6 Sedan... SWEET car. I really am enjoying it, and trying to listen to the wise folks in this BBS re: break in. I appeciate all of your advice.
My only drawback so far? 22 mpg on 60/40 driving (highway/city). I hope & have heard that will improve w/ time.
I went to Boch Honda in Norwood. They don't have the model I'm looking for. They tried to convince me on the EX V6. The woman said what the $2000 difference? I said a lot when I don't need it. oh, also, they threw $26,800 for the EX at me. Then, I mentioned your purchase there...they went silent.
I'll shop around for it tomorrow or next week. It helps to have a game plan when you go in.
That's prety strange when it was so easy for me. I said $24,000, they said yes. Not much more than that to it. But I think it was on their list of incoming vehicles... dont' know if that made a difference. Sorry they aren't being as helpful to you. Good luck.
invoice was about 23.6K, so I had a number close to this in mind.
I went to a local dealer (Lute Riley) in Richardson, north of Dallas today to do some dealin'. After test driving the car, we went inside to discuss price. I knew that this was the car I wanted, it seemed to be the best value in this class. I test drove an Altima V6 , but I just felt that the Accord was put together better and offered a lot more for the price. I may be partial to Hondas, I've been driving a 92 Prelude for 10 years.
Anyway, the price I was willing to buy at was no more than $500 over invoice ($24.1K). The first offer given me was the standard "how much do you want to pay a month?" question. I told them I will not deal on monthly payments, only selling price. That's when the salesman went to his manager and came back with an offer of $25K.
I said no way to that and stuck to my guns of 24.1K. He then brought his manager over to me and he went into his spiel about what a great car this is etc, how there is NO WAY that they could sell the car at my price. I told him fine, you have my phone number. Then he proceeded to offer me the car at 24.5, and said that I'm not giving them much of a profit even at that price! I told him you weren't willing to budge off 25K 15 minutes ago and now you're cutting 500 off that?
I said 24.1 or no deal, which sent him to his boss (maybe the coffee pot for all I know) and came back with a sheet showing what the invoice was for the car and some other price (dealer cost?), which was still $200 over my price. I still said 24.1 or nothing, which sent him back to HIS manager(?). A few minutes later, the salesman came back and said "congratulations, you got a deal".
Final price: $24,100 + tax (6%) + doc, tag, inspection fees (~$200). They only offered me $1K
for my Prelude, but that was expected as it has some pretty extensive body damage. I think I can get maybe double that selling it privately.
Sorry for the long letter, just thought I'd share my experience for those who might be looking for an Accord in this area. I'm glad that I stuck to my predetermined price, and that I would not give in. Don't know what other people are paying in this area, but think I did OK.
A question before I close: what is the best loan rates out there for a 4 year note? Are internet agencies or some major banks (ie. Wells Fargo) better than Honda Finance? They are offering me 7.5%, which seems a bit high for these times. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
(1) I was pre-approved for a new auto loan from my credit union on October 11 2002, and didn't bother to check the current interest rate on the day I went to the dealership. The interest rate for a 5-year new auto loan effective October 21, 2002 (the day I went to the dealership) went down from 6.5% to 5.75%! The dealership offered me 6.0%, which I accepted because I thought I was getting 0.5% off my credit union's rate! Had I checked my credit union's rate before I went to the dealership, I could have gotten a much better financing offer.
(2) The car already had 107 miles on it!!! The $500 over invoice price was the FIRST offer from the salesman and I didn't bother to "haggle" a little bit! I think that with the 107 miles on the odometer, I could have negotiated a lower price, at least by a couple hundreds.
(3) I didn't check the car's exterior well enough, and found out later that there is a paint scratch/chip in front. Not a big deal, but a brand new car should be free of these (and the odometer reading should be no more than 50-70 test drive miles.).
Although the car seems to perform well, I am not very happy with my purchase. Too bad, it's all my mistakes! :-)
Is that fixed amount? How much is reasonable?
It's really confuse me. Also I see inspection fee, what's the point for a new car to charge inspection fee? Your explain highly appreciated.
Will let him call you...
I still feel that the 107 "test drive" miles is a bit excessive. I just hope that those who have test driven it didn't "abuse" the gas pedal and the brakes to the max. My readings tell me that these are the (bad) things that most test drivers do -- in order to feel how far this new model can go. This really makes me very uneasy. For some reason, I forgot all about this odometer reading when the salesman and I were done with the test drive and back into the negotiating/processing room. I would call this plain "inexperience".
Indeed, there is no problem transferring the financing to my credit union. My only regret is that I lost the opportunity to be offered by the dealership with a rate better than 5.75%!
With the slow auto sales (and others posting $0-300 over invoice deals), I couldn't help but think that I could have done much better. All I can do was to throw away the calling cards that the "smart" salesman gave me. :-)
