Just bought a 06 Accord V6 auto (cool blue metallic) with no options for $25,000 even. oh, this is a coupe by the way... Was this a fair deal?? Anyone??
  • mickjazzmickjazz Member Posts: 21
Have you noticed how nobody posting about below invoice sales on accords never responds to any requests as to the identity of the dealer?

I think most if not all of them are bs.

I got quotes from 5 LA dealers and not even one was at invoice for a VP auto.

The price is in-line with everyone else if this is the EX model which I assume it is given the color choice. The deal is fair and you got an awesome color that makes the dated exterior look nicer. BTW - the V6 EX has many standard features so you may not need many options. Did you buy the EX?
  • msisengmsiseng Member Posts: 369
Read previous posts where many in Washington, DC post dealer names. Even selling at the holdback numbers the dealers make a profit. The invoice is an artificial way to make money and provides a benchmark for us to negotiate. What a clever tool for the dealer, huh?
  • oldmansioldmansi Member Posts: 40
Yes, this is an EX with no options. Yes, the color is awesome. Was goin to get the graphite pearl but it just looked too dark for my liking. So I went with the cool blue metallic cuz I wanted the black leather interior. The only think I dont like is the large wheel well gap but but may drop it slightly with pro kits later. Thanks for reply.
  • msisengmsiseng Member Posts: 369
Why don't you just buy better performance wider tires to lessen the wheel gap? Pro kits can wreak havoc on suspension systems and handling. You can get 18" wheels on this car no problem with all the space. Use the 17" wheels with the original Michelin heavy load tires for the winter if you are in a cold climate.

Can anyone answer why Honda uses heavy load tires for the Accord EX? I noticed them on the Acura TL also.
  • alamocityalamocity Member Posts: 680
Now that you mention it I've noticed the same thing, does make you wonder. Best quote I've received thus far is $17,638.00 for a VP automatic here in San Antonio and would be glad to provide dealer's names to anyone interested.
  • oldmansioldmansi Member Posts: 40
well I have had pro kits on my 2000 civic si since car was new with stock shocks and have had NO suspension problems at all...In fact, car is lowered a little over an inch and camber is at just slightly under -1 degrees negative which is still in spec for alignment...Also, putting larger wheels (18 inch) will NOT reduce wheel gap as the 18's use lower profile tires which almost gives the car the same overall diameter of the stock 17's.. wider tire does nothing to reduce gap. correct me if I am wrong on this and again, thanks for your reply .

I've been reading through the posts in this thread, and I mostly see only the price of the vehicles listed. Am I to assume that everyone here received pin stripes, door edge guards, wheel well moldings, mud guards and window tint as standard features with their Honda Accords? Or does this type of stuff vary by region? I'm in Arizona.

Edited to ask how much people have paid for the Honda Care extended warranty. How do I know what a fair price is for 5, 6, 7 or 8 years? :confuse:
  • tallman1tallman1 Member Posts: 1,874
Every dealer is different. Most people mention those extras when posting here. The dealer I bought from doesn't put any extras on the car. Many do it so they can charge you more. Savvy folks can end up getting those extras free but it just depends.

It does really help others if people who post here mention ALL the details about the car they are considering. Many leave off the type of transmission, for example. And then there are the dealer-added extras that you mention.

I finally picked up my Accord last week.
    The breakdown was this
    18879 price
    550 dest.
    195 tags title
    50 process fee
then tax which is 5% in MD
    Out the door was 20646.
Bought it from sports Honda. Service there was very laid back and fair.
Anyway I hope this helps anyone else that is looking at the same model.
Thanks again to all in this forum that gave me advice during the buying process.

i got a quote for $21700 for an ex-L, but it was coupe and also a 5 speed manual.
  • sbabusbabu Member Posts: 9
The dealership is TampaHondaLand. But they got the car from a different dealership for me. I'm sure you'll be able to get similar deals or even better ones.. Good luck!!

Hi .. anyone know if Honda will come up with any incentives for May. I know the current ones end on 5/1/2006.

    Thanks
  • smileygsmileyg Member Posts: 5
What r the current ones? Anything other than the interest rates?

Have you heard anything on this? I am also looking for a Accord VP in Austin and San Antonio area.

Is $21,300 a good price for a 2006 Honda Accord EX 4dr Sedan (2.4L 4cyl 5A) with cloth seats? Edmunds.com says invoice is $21,478 with destination fee included. How much below invoice are most people paying for these cars, not including optional add-ons?
  • luckylouluckylou Member Posts: 308
    Thanks sbabu.
I found a pretty good deal closer to home.
A new 2006 Honda Accord EX - L , 4 cylinders (2.4 liters) Automatic (5A), Sedan , Leather ,Navigation with PZEV plus Mud Flaps (F&R) and Pin Strips.
The Out The Door price $26,800.00
Might not be a good price but I am happy.
    Thanks again

I received the following (which count as below invoice because they include destination)

    Valley Honda: Aurora, IL $17,182
    Grand Honda: Elmhurst, IL $17,361
Honda of Lisle: Lisle, IL $17,386

Must be the market - but definitely not BS

I was never asked what dealer I had purchased from.

This dealer was in Rhode Island so that narrows it down a lot.

No, I'm not bs'ing anyone here, I did buy my Accord for 800 under invoice.

Just wanted to thank everyone on this board for some excellent guidance on pricing.

Took delivery of a Carbon Bronze/Black leather EX-L w/5speed. Kudos to Honda for still offering a nicely equiped car with a stick shift. It's getting pretty rare nowadays. Didn't even bother driving an Altima as they stick an automatic on it as soon as you add any option. Mazda6 was the only other car we gave any serious consideration.

    But I digress.
    21187 base price
    550 destination
    100 processing fee
280 added equipment--mud guards, wheel locks, and pinstripe
    1105 5% md taxes
    215 md tags
    23437 "out the door price"

Wasn't keen on the extra wheel locks, pinstripe, and mud guards for $280, but they had to get the car from another dealer who already had them installed them, and we were able to get the color combo we wanted.

Might have been able to haggle down the price a few bucks more, but it was probably the easiest, low pressure car buying experience I've ever had.

The wife (primary driver) is happy. She can park our '94 Dodge B250 conversion van (still going strong, but which had been getting 11-12 mpg). Hopefully the Honda will get a bit better gas milage than that ;). It certainly is more fun to drive.

Our first "foreign" car - Ohio's pretty foreign to us :), unless you count our 2000 Chrysler 300m, which was built in Canada.

is this a 5 speed manual tanny??? thanks.
  • macthor2macthor2 Member Posts: 11
Thanks for disclosing the dealers name. The one that I got came from Muller Honda in Highland Park. I negotiated over the phone for $17,000 but the salesman said that he could only go down $50-$100 from his quote of $17,689 (can't remember the exact amount). Maybe because they don't have one in stock so they're not willing to go down further.

Do you know what is the sales tax rate at these dealers? Lake county sales tax is 6.5%.
  • needadeal1needadeal1 Member Posts: 2
It doesn't matter where you buy the car in Illinois, the dealer will apply the sales tax rate which applies to the address where the car will be registered. I live in DuPage County and the rate is 6.75% I believe the state sales tax is 6.25% and then the county and depending upon where you live, the city, can add on to that. If you live in the 312 area code (which is what my cell phone is - the contact number I was giving dealers) the tax rate is almost 10%. I had to keep telling everyone - I don't live in the Loop, it's just a cell phone! Yikes.

The best price I have found in the Austin San Antonio area is $17,681.00 plus tax, title and license from Fernandez Honda here is San Antonio. None of the dealer's I spoke with are willing to go below the invoice price of $17,232.00 so I guess Honda's sell well in this market and as a result the dealer's are not willing to bargain as much as they might in other markets. Have heard other's have paid less in this market for the vehicle but none have provided detail's on their deal's so can't verify that. Would be interested in hearing how your search goes.

    is this a 5-speed manual tranny>

Based on their excitement that Honda still offered a manual with such a nice car, I'd guess yes. Context clues, my friends, context clues! :)

Congratulations on the purchase, that is a great price you paid. Where did you purchase this car from?

    Thanks!

Got a question of re-financing our auto loan. We got our car 2weeks ago and financed it thru our bank. After a couple of days we bought the car, Honda started the special promotion of the APR's which are much lower than the APR we got. Is it possible to re-finance the loan thru Honda now? If so, should I contact the dealer or Honda for it? Any help/thought is appreciated. Thanks.

I would try really hard and see what happens. There’s no downside for you. The worst they can say is no, and then you’ll be exactly where you are today.

That said, in general, I believe the answer to your question is no. I only say that because auto lenders like Capital One always charge higher rates for a refinance than for a new purchase from dealer loan. There must be some advantage in the new dealer purchase - less risk or something.

But, that doesn’t mean I don’t think you should call Honda. I would call the dealership - based upon the information in my Fighting Chance packet, many dealer incentives are tied to good customer service questionnaires. The dealership wants you to be happy because lots of happy customers equal lots of money for the dealership and its employees (which is only fair). So they (much more than Honda in general) may bend over backwards to keep such a recent customer happy.

    Hi,

I got excellent quote from Valley Honda. Too good to be true. I'm planning to go down there to buy it, but I'm afraid of bait and switch. It's an hour drive for me and don't want to waste my time. Did you have any comments about this dealer? Thanks.
  • macthor2macthor2 Member Posts: 11
Never mind, the dealer just called and said that they made a mistake on the quote. It should be $17,182 vs. 16,182 for a VP AT (inc. dest). It's too far for me to go there for such small difference. What a disappointment.
  • thegraduatethegraduate Member Posts: 9,731
Aww, sorry to hear that; it would've been in Hyundai territory!

I'm going to be in the market for a new Honda in the very near future and I was wondering if there was a particular dealership that rises above the rest?

    I got three lower qoutes,Honda Of Joliet($17282),Community Honda($17181)and
Castle Honda($17282).The price include destination charge. But I chose Castle
    Honda(near my home),Last Saturday I went to ask $17000 VP/AT and got it,OTD is
$18537. So you can go to Castle Honda for asking the
same price if you like it,maybe you can get better price than me because this
week is end of month. Good luck!

On 4/1/06 I purchased a Honda VP Automatic for $16,700 including destination charge but not including TTL. I think I got a very good deal. I live in the Boston area.
  • msisengmsiseng Member Posts: 369
You are in luck. Many of us did the legwork in DC for you.

For reference: I got the '06 Accord EX with Nav.

Sport Honda was very good. I bought there from a guy with an Australian accent (we cannot use names here). Do your homework here and go to him with your lowest price. Tell him you heard of him on Edmunds.com.

Herson's Honda was $400.00 under any other dealer, but only had silver and a damaged car which was not attractive for resale. It was worth it to pay $400.00 more for a nicer color at Sport Honda. The Herson's internet sales manager was great to work with. Herson's service department has suffered over the years. This is something they are "changing." The damaged (bumper scratch) car price was very low. It got damaged when it was unloaded from the truck. They did the body work and disclosed this information which is refreshing. :)

Criswell Honda was just plain rude  and their prices were very high. They were also rude to several others on this board and two of my friends. Beware. I am sure they are reading this and will create a user id and subsequently post to make themselves look better. BEWARE!

Tyson's Honda is known for having the highest prices in the DC area. Their quotes were very high on the Accord and the Pilot. My friend was quoted $1,500 over everyone else on his S2000.

Fairfax Honda tried to sell me a lot of extras such as "paint protectant" and "rust proofing." They tried to say that floor mats were not standard. Well, they are. This is a spill-over from 1988, so avoid this dealership. The salesman also could not speak English so dealing with him was confusing, at best. I asked for a sales manager and he was "too busy." LATER MUCH!

Bill Page Honda is known for treating customers the best, but their prices were middle of the road. I do not know one person who bought there who is sorry. There are stories of the owner calling customers to ensure they are happy. How often do we find that?

College Park Honda had the third highest price qoute. Their stock is also limited and their service department is known to be very poor.

Ourisman Honda lied about a free service loaner, so I ran. Upon calling the service manager, he said they never issue service loaners and stated the salesman was "lying." RED FLAG. They also would not quote a price over the phone and told me to bring my best price. They lost me for life over the lie and failure to quote a price on the phone. They are also in an expensive rent area and have to make more profit than other dealers.

Warrenton Honda was awesome and would match the price at Herson's. They were just too far away, but agreed to pay for a rental car to get there.

Then you have the dealers near Baltimore. Different world and you can get better prices. They try the add-on trick more than the DC dealers.

It does not matter where you buy the car because you can have it serviced anywhere. You can get a better deal by going into the sticks. If you do this then try Warrenton Honda.

Remember: do not pay a documentation fee. Everyone waived it EXCEPT for Tyson's Honda.

I hope other DC area people will add to the list.

Let us know if this helps.

Where in Denver did you get your car? Did that price include D&H (dealer handling)I am in the market right now, and so far have checked out the two no haggle dealers in Denver and they appear much higher.
Sorry can't help otherwise with your ?

    Thanks, Scott

I ended up buying from the dealer closest to me, Shockley Honda in Frederick, MD. As I said, very smooth transaction. No complaints at all. Prices from the other dealers (via the internet) were, for the most part, pretty comparable. One dealer was $1000 more than the others, but the other 3 were within a couple hundred dollars of each other. That's why I didn't try to haggle Shockley too much.

First oil change free, plus free carwashes.

Funny how different folks can have different experiences with the same folks. I test drove the accord at Herson's, and had a very pleasant experience. They emailed what seemed to be a pretty decent (below invoice) quote, albiet without listing the fees.

I asked for a quote from Criswell, and was impressed that they sent me an immediate quote, breaking down all costs, so that you could see the out-the-door price. They were a couple hundred less, but they tacked on $99 wheel locks.

Then, based on others on this board, I emailed Sports Honda in Silver spring, and got an even better price, and they had only a $49 doc fee, instead of $100, and they didn't have manditory wheel locks. They did warn that if they had to get the car from another dealership, I might have to pay $280 for stuff that dealer may have added (strips, locks, muggards). Still came out a bit less than Criswell. Criswell and Sports were they only dealer to give a complete quote.

Shockley Honda in Frederick was the most laid back dealer. They gave me the same price as Sport, so I bought from them.

I think I would have been ok buying from any of these dealers. While I did encounter some traditional, hard-sell "salesman" personalities while looking (the dodge dealership was the worse), for the most part car dealers have learned that people want a more relaxed, soft-sell car buying experience.

    Msiseng & Exshoman,

Thank you very very much for the information. It is very helpful and I hope to hear from other greater DC folks as well!

Just out of curiousity, did either of you happen to test drive the new civic? Why did you choose the Accord over the new civic?

    Thanks again!

Pauly Honda in Libertyville agreed to sell me an Honda AT VP for $17,200. I'm going there. They also quoted a LX for $18,900. I'm not sure if the LX is worth the extra $1700 because the only thing that I really need is the power side mirrors. Seem so much more for just that.
  • jhs70jhs70 Member Posts: 213
Warrenton Honda? Warrenton, Virginia? Are you sure? I could not find a listing for this dealership on hondacars.com. I would really like to know as I am primed to move and am close to Warrenton .....VA :surprise:

    Thanks..
  • thegraduatethegraduate Member Posts: 9,731
The LX will handle better due to the anti-roll bar. It also has a REAL stereo (6 speakers vs 2 in the VP), body colored accents (doorhandles, mirrors), automatic off headlamps, and variable speed windshield wipers.

None of these are necessities of course, but they are nice to have on a modern vehicle.
