1000 on coupe
Both are factory to dealer incentives.
Seems as if many are buying that car for 23800 to 24,600.
Invoice is 25,200+ including transportation. Seems like they are giving you invoice minus some of the 750. They still have about 7-800 holdback in reserve. If you can get it for under 24,000, I'd say that's good.
The point of this post though is just to say that although we didn't end up buying it, I would highly recommend the internet department at Criswell Honda. Rules prohibit me from naming names (email me if you want to know), but the internet sales rep I dealt with was very good. We had a nice test drive, took our time with the vehicle, answered questions, and met my pricing expections (considerably under invoice). He did not pressure us. So, if you are in the market for an Accord (or really any Honda) around DC, check them out.
As for our new Camry--bottom line is that it came out considerably less expensive than the Accord, had everything the Accord did except leather and a good deal more (standard bluetooth, 440 watt stereo system, etc.) Plus, I just fit in it better. I was shocked because I'm more of a performance guy, but that Camry is still pretty quick and just made more sense.
But the Accord is an excellent car and a worthy competitor.
I'd like to know who you dealt with at Criswell (and at Fitzgerald), as my final two choices are also between Honda and Mazda, but I can't seem to find your e-mail address. Could you send me an e-mail to the user name shown above at aol dot com?
Thanks!

22,350 =
22,456 (inv) - 750 (marketing) + 550 (dest) + 100 (processing fee)
Out the door = $23,661.
I am being told there is no more room to negotiate. Should I push for a lower price or settle? Is there really a 3% holdback I can negotiate?
I just wanted to thank everyone for the help on this site. I got the Accord for 18200. A reasonable price I thought for southern michigan, in chicago they were a few hundred cheaper, but a smooth transaction done all over internet and phone. I was out of the dealer in 45 mins. Thanks all!!
I agree the processing fee is bogus.
I bought an EX 4 door, no leather, in May. $20,300 plus TTL. That's includes destination. There was no doc fee.
BTW, I'd go somewhere else to compare since there must be numerous honda stores in your area. You can do better IMO.
Many are getting he 6 cylinder EX invoice 25,200 (list almost 28,000) with transportation included for 23,600 to 24,400.
The "catch" is that this was one of the cars damaged by the May 2 hailstorm in Texas; hence the good deal. But, truth be told, the damage is very minor. People usually don't even notice the damage unless I tell them.
I was very lucky to get the deal.
I did share the quote with another dealer who said it was a good deal. That dealer was not willing to beat the price.
Any last thoughts before I head in there?
I'm going to get it tomorrow, and frankly, I'm a tad wary. Granted, I am a bit cynical when it comes to car dealers. Part of me fears this may be a ploy to get me in the door and add on a bunch of other fees. (The dealership is an hour away from me).
I did get the saleswoman to fax over a buyers order and a receipt for my credit card deposit, so if the deal goes south, I still have the buyers order to shop around, and I can always do a chargeback on the deposit.
I was told by a local dealer that that price is a $1000 money loser for them. I'm not sure I believe him, though. As best as I can tell, they're making about 4% profit off of me. Here's my math I used to determine that:
Accord EX Invoice = $20,928
minus 698 Holdback (3% of base Accord EX MSRP $23,800)
minus 750 Factory to dealer incentive.
That gave me $19,480 for the Dealer's cost of the car.
I added a 4% profit to that figure which brought the total to $20,259.
To that, I added the $550 Destination fee and $339 South Carolina TTL. for a total of $21,148. That's $10 more than they quoted me. So I know they're making some money off of me.
I hope that math formula helps any other potential buyers. 3-5% is a fair profit. Plus, keep in mind there are always other undisclosed incentives that vary from dealership to dealership.
And we'll find out if this deal will actually happen tomorrow afternoon. Any advice y'all can toss out there to help me keep this dealership at this price?
Jonathan
I love your TTL in SC, in NY it's more like $1900.
I'm looking to buy an Accord in late July. Can anyone recommend dealerships located in the Maryland / DC area? Also do most people start with online quotes before heading into the dealership? Just wondering how most are getting their final deals.
Thanks,
Rob
Accord EX 4cyl cloth int.
Graphite Exterior.
$20,677 for the car
$21,138 OTD
Very hassle-free. Very friendly. I highly recommend them to anyone in the area.
Also, as far as trade in value - what do the dealerships use to determine trade ins??? NADA - seems much higher than Kelly Blue book. Any suggestions on determining trade in value before visiting the dealership would be greatly appreciated and me laughing at them with a ridiculous price on my trade in!
After agreeing to purchase, we were told that the car would be cleaned and ready for us after we filled out our paperwork and financing documents. It was late at night so I said that we wouldn't mind picking up the car tomorrow if it would give them more time to clean and wash the car. But our salesman insisted that it wouldn't take long and we should stay until the car is ready.
It took about an hour and a half to fill out paperwork, etc. and my wife and I then waited for the car. Salesman said it would take just "5 more minutes." We wait 30 minutes, car's still not ready and he says "5 more minutes. This happens several times. Finally, a full hour and a half later, car is finally ready.
We do the final inspection and notice little scratches all over the car. We point them out and the salesman says it's just glue from the shrink wrapping that went around the car. He says he'll take it out back and have it detailed in "10 minutes". So we wait another 30 minutes... Car comes back and we notice that 80% of the scratches remain. We point these out to the salesman and he says, "Look, we only have one guy working back there at night. How long do you think it would take you to clean and detail an entire car?" I then point out that I had said earlier that I wouldn't mind picking it up tomorrow to give the dealer more time to clean it.
But, the salesman gets quite mad and says, "Fine, you don't want the car. I don't care, we rip up the paperwork and you go home" He then tells this to the sales manager in charge that night who states to us, "You are welcome to leave and we'll just rip up the paperwork." We felt that this was quite UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDE especially since we had never said a thing about wanting to renege on the deal.
After some arguments about what constitutes a "scratch", we decided that we would just come back tomorrow after they've had time to clean and detail the car properly. We did not get home until 11:30 that night. We did return the next day and the car was fine and we drove it home.
We got a good price otherwise we would have went to ANY other dealer but felt that this customer treatment was quite RIDICULOUS and VERY RUDE. I recommend that you buy your Honda from ANY OTHER dealer who will treat you in a more courteous and professional manner.
To the sales manager's credit, he did apologize to us the next morning but we got no such apology from our salesman.
All prices include destination charge.

Thanks again everyone, I could not have done it without you!
just wanted to say what a terrific experience it was. the internet sales mgr was very patient and not at all nasty when it came down to the last few hundred off. i initially said if anyone can come in under 17, i would do it. lo and behold nearly everyone came in under it. my best px was actually 16,630 but that was thru an insider at a NJ dealer. nanuet guy explained that there were dealer fees in NJ that they would charge that will total over 175. and sure enough it was true... nanuet can as a NY dealer can only charge 45 by law. so net net, same px. i went to them because they were honest, patient and straight forward. no different when i got there to sign paper work. showed me the actual cars in color i wanted and i chose the exact car for delivery. everyone should do that if poss as i've had an experience with buying a new car only to discover at delivery that there was a paint chip. the dealer was pretty indifferent about that as the sale was completed. they gave me touch up paint and sent me on my way.
either way, while it is a stripped down version accord. i still have the same 4cyl engine, suspension, air bags, abs, pwr windows, locks. no traction control but i intend to use this as a light duty zip around town car. i am very pleased with the purchase.
accord for less than a stripped civic LX. oh what a feeling!
Well, you can believe what you want to believe; I assure you it matters to me not. Like I said, there are scores of dings around the car, but they are tiny and they're not noticeable from a distance of more than a few feet. The dealer is Gunn Honda (of San Antonio)http://gunnhonda.com/main/
To me, the dings don't affect my enjoyment of the car one iota and I simply can't imagine how tiny hail dings are going to affect the mechanical functioning of the car, so I'm not sure I understand why the insurance person would advise against it... But, anyway, that's the story.
It was a good price despite the horrible service.
