Recently requested quotes for my parents for this car through Edmunds. My parents were able to purchase the car for $23,160 (before tax/ license) from Livermore Honda. I rec'd about 6 quotes, the quote from this dealer was about $600 less than anyone else.

Hi all. I've never purchased a new car before and would like your feedback/advice.

After researching the 2003 Accords, I decided to settle on the DX Automatic trim over the LX Automatic. The reason is that I can't justify spending $3000 extra for A/C, Power Locks, Keyless entry, and extra speakers.

So recently I obtained price quotes from all over WA (I live in Seattle) and have pretty much recieved the same quotes, +/- $100. Pretty frustrating.

Lowest Quote: Accord DX Sedan Automatic $15,800.

I don't know if this includes Destination Charge. Now I KNOW there is a better deal out there. Can you offer any advice on how to obtain a better price?

Lastly, shouldn't the prices be dropping since we're nearing the end of the year? Otherwise, do you think it's worth it to wait 1-2 more months until the 2004 model comes out?

BTW, I told all the dealers that I am ready to purchase with cash. Don't know if this helps or not.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

    Hi guys,

Im a new user here...Im getting a used '99 Accord EX V6 coupe w/ spoiler and moonroof, Honda Certified from jersey city, NJ. It has 74000 miles, and a small dent on the right side door that the dealer said he is going to fix. Because of that and high mileage, and the car had 4 owners (??) the dealer is charging me $12K before tax. Do u think I should consider it? Or go look for another car?

    Thanks
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,259
Go look for another car. A high mileage car with dents? There are probably 20 cars comparable to that one within 50 miles of where you live. I'm sure you can find a nice low mileage one with no issues for about that same price. Good luck!!

Do you plan on keeping this car for 7-10 years? If not, then get the LX. The resale for a family sedan with no air conditioning is terrible. Even after 5-6 years, I believe you'll get the difference in purchase price back in resale on an LX. The dealer will also have many more LX's to choose from on the lot, possibly resulting in a better deal than on the DX.
Having cash for the car is great, but in my experience, the dealers don't care that much either way. If you get a loan, the bank gives them cash also.

    regards,

    Hello:

I decided NOT to purchase a new EX-V6L to replace my 2001 EX-V6 and went with a slightly used Passat 2003 GLX instead. (Got a great deal on a Rep's car and a great trade-in price.)

However for you folks, the best deal I was offered was $23,274 + $249 doc fee. Still $150 under invoice. I had a good experience at that dealership and I've already sent one friend to buy a car from them at that price. Email me if you need a contact.

4 Owners on a 5 year old car, sounds pretty high. The miles are on par ( 15K a year industry average), the car is clean from what you write.

Run a car fax report, see what is going on with the car.?

Price seems okay, not a steal, but he isnt robbing you either.

dont be getting any dx without air conditioning... even if it doesnt get hot, the air comes in handy on days when the window fogs up and you need to use the defroster... buy a recent used LX before buying a new DX if you cant afford a new LX....

in conclusion, buying an accord DX is kinda like buying a venus de milo without the arms... well, bad example, but you get the idea. am i nuts on this DX deal? toyota scrapped the camry CE-- i think honda should scrap the accord DX.
  • mikek37mikek37 Member Posts: 411
Nope you arent nuts. Stay away from the DX, up the ante to the LX atleast. Some previosly posted the resale on DX will be pretty low, another reason not to buy the DX. What about the civic, you can probably get a nicely loaded EX, or do you need the room of the accord?

I am a first time car buyer and looking into Accord (LX or EXV6 - still debating) Any good experience/prices from NJ dealers?

    Thanks in advance.

Here is the deal. Graphite Pearl EX-L Sedan Auto. Out the door at 24,180 including mud guards and moonroof visor. Sounds good? Less than MSRP, but it seems others found better deals. BTW, this is from a dealer in Georgia.
  • petrnycpetrnyc Member Posts: 47
Assuming you are speaking of Accord EX V6, you should be able to find $23k deal. Add $89 guards and a $100 visor. $23,200 is the right price I think. You are in Georgia — one of the least expensive Accord markets. Without any haggling I was offered a $23,200 deal via email. This did not include guards or visor, but then again, such plastics could always be added at later date. If you leave your email address I could put you in contact with my sales man.

stay away from Route 22 Honda. simply dishonest approach to doing business on their part. On the phone they will tell you all things positive about their published newspaper prices. Once you get there, dont be surprised to hear " that particular vehicle has been sold, but..." then the grind begins. That sort of thing never worked for me — we simply left. Sales "professionals" there are street culture galore.

My 2 cents...I live in Seattle and have not had a car with a/c for the past 10 years. Defrosting the windows has only been an occasional nuisance since my car is not garaged, so it sits outside overnight...if you plan to garage the car, defrost is not going to be a problem. I bought a 2003 DX 5-spd (no a/c) from the Bellevue dealer in March for $14888 (incl destination) plus tax/license...I got a quote from a SF bay area dealer (Fremont, CA) for a DX sedan auto for about $14.9K, so you may elect to use this as a benchmark figure (they had about a dozen DX autos in stock at the time, so I feel they were trying to unload them). I agree with the resale comment between a DX and LX. LX will be easier to sell (for me, I keep my cars for a long time, so resale is less of an issue). I definitely feel a 03 DX is (from a design and engineering perspective) a significantly better car than the previous generation. Comparing with, say an 02 LX, an 03 DX is not just one year newer, it is one generation newer. For me, I prefer to drive the latest design, engineering and styling and am personally willing to forego a/c and power locks. Good luck.

    Hello,

It seems in pittsburgh, I cant get the dealers to go lower than 18,600 before taxes. I emailed and visited the dealers and they won't go any lower. This is out of 5 dealers. Any suggestions.
  • accordbuyeraccordbuyer Member Posts: 8
18,600 is above invoice (18460). You sure can do much better than that. i would suggest you to consider driving 100 miles or so to buy your car and save $1,500 or more.
  • ryanfryanf Member Posts: 2
Again I tried two more dealerships. Again none lower 18,600. It is crazy. I am dealing with all internet managers and fleet sales guys. The dealers now 7 total wont go any lower. I started a price war and they all bulked at any lower than 18,600. The car is for my mom and she doesn't want the hassle of driving out of state etc.. and wants the car local. I would do it for her but you know how that goes.

Also whats a good interest rate on a loan.

    Thanks

    Hi all,
Just got quotes on Accord coupe LX - $17,971 before taxes, EX coupe - $20,571 before taxes, both cars w/auto tranny. Is it good enough deal for NYC area? many thanks - vic

Just purchased a Graphite Pearl EX-L sedan with automatic transmission in Michigan. Got it for $21,475. I'm sure I could have gotten it for a few hundred cheaper as some of you on this message board have. However, I needed to purchase it that day and didn't have enough time to shop all over the state. Also, I think it would be best if everyone stated their purchase price before TT&L since each state has a different sales tax and each dealer charges their own doc fees, etc. Thanks for everyone's help on this message board.
  • accordbuyeraccordbuyer Member Posts: 8
I got mine at 3.75 for 60 months. But interest rates have fallen after that. Now ypu can easily get 3.49%, depending upon your credit score.
  • marnempmarnemp Member Posts: 2
There is a $1,000 difference between the offers I have from Atlanta area dealers and the Savannah area dealers. Can prices really change that much within a couple hundred miles? I am afraid the Atlanta dealers just want to get me to the lot. Their offers are below invoice. Any comments?
  • farcarlfarcarl Member Posts: 2
The lowest quote I got is not from a local dealer, but from the one in Ohio - at invoice. 100 miles away and $185 lower. Is there a chance to go even lower? I don't mind driving, but I'd like to get $1K - $1.5K off. When can we expect he new model year to roll out, alond with the big discounts for 2003 models?

    Hello! I have two questions:
    1. Looking for great prices on Accord EX V6 in and around Philly.

    2. The internet manager at one of the Philly's dealerships told me today that they do not accept internet financing (meaning PeopleFirst checks)due to the fact that it takes them 30-60 days to get the funds from internet banks. Whats the deal? Is this the same at all Honda dealerships? I just cringe at the idea of going to the dealership's finance office...

    Thanks for your replies!
  • moolmanmoolman Member Posts: 129
Whoever tells you they don't take internet financing is full of crap. Typical dealer scam to make you finance through them. The check you give them from peoplesfirst is a cashiers check, not a personal check or a business check, a cashiers check, it's good as cash, what a crock of ****, Just avoid that dealer because who knows what else they will try to pull on you. Anyway, go through Honda finance if they offer 3.49, that's what I got last december during their promotion so I went through the dealer.

I need some help finding a good deal on an Accord 2003. I've been told to wait until September because most car dealers lower the price to make room for their new year's model. Is this correct? What's a good deal on Accord EX V-6 Sedan with leather and navigation? Accord LX V-4 Sedan? Accord LX V6 Sedan with leather and navigation? Are all navigation systems alike? I live in Dallas area, I need a local dealer.
Thank you in advance for your advice and suggestion.

Just Bought a 03 V-6EXL Out The Door 25,249.00 with 3.49% financing with mud gaurds sun roof visorand pin striping. I guess that is a pretty good deal might could have found one a little cheaper if I looked around a bit longer.I did the internet route with little or no luck as far as buying services go as for getting the best price. I dealt with the middle Georgia area dealers and a few of the atlanta area dealers.
  • inspectoringinspectoring Member Posts: 102
I know a friend of mind purchased the 2004 LX w/o side air bags - OTD for 19000 and that was the best deal he had gotten (~10 miles).

On my EX, for 19500 OTD I got one with ~35 miles...

marnemp: Atlanta is a very competitive car market. Especially when it comes to Hondas. There are at least 5 pretty large Honda dealers in the metro-Atlanta area. You should be able to get an invoice deal at any one of them, unless you want a 6-speed and even then I am sure it's doable for them. I would try Gwinnett Place Honda first. HUUUUGE inventory selection.

    Well, the follow-up:

Bought it for $18,460 (at invoice) in Greensburg, PA. Just showed the salesman the quote from Ohio dealership and asked if he could beat that. Got a 15% discount on cassette player and the nose mask on top of that. Decided to take the deal and not wait till August 'cause I just sold my used Honda to a private buyer and figured the rental for a month would eat up any discount I could've gotten and then some...

  • accordbuyeraccordbuyer Member Posts: 8
I am reading posts from ppl saying that they bought their honda at invoice or above. i bought mine $1,500 below invoice (see my earlier posts), and i didnt have to haggle with the dealer. i did most of my work on internet, went to a dealer, asked him to come up with the best price he could and bought my car without any haggling. i thought ppl with better negotiating skills could do much better than me, but i am surprised from various posts here in this forum. actually i am feeling a little proud of myself :-) this is probably the first time ever in my life that i got a better deal than many others.

i know its not what everyone here is used to, but i was excited about my older find and wanted some feedback and opinions...do you think its a good deal?

i found a one owner, 94 accord coupe ex, black and in very clean condition...privately sold

70k miles, almost perfect leather, very few dings and only 2 scratches, one on each bumper
sunroof, 5spd, vtech, car phone and a recent $1600 maintenance covering up to 100k mile maintenance including water pump, timing belt, exhaust, clutch, brakes and more

the only one thing i have found as a negative is that the fuel guage has a tendency to drop to zero at stops, but then raises again when i take off again...weird?

    what do you think?

We bought our black Accord V6 EX on May 23 and paid $23,400 for the car. This price includes ALL fees (destination, advertising, processing, or whatever else the dealer wanted to call his fees.) The price does not include taxes, title and registration. The only extras on the car were mud guards and wheel locks. We bought the car in Northern Virginia and we live in Richmond, which was about a two hour drive for us. Given the prices in Richmond, the drive was well worth our time, even with two children under two years old.

I was aiming for $23,000, but just couldn't get it. Regardless, I was comfortable with the final price. I got the price over the phone by just calling several dealers one afternoon. I bounced prices back and forth between dealers and when I thought I had my best price, I called the dealer where we purchased our 2000 Accord and I offered him $23,000 cash for the same car. When he said he couldn't do $23,000, I asked him to just match the $23,400 and again he said he couldn't. At that point I thought I had reached the lowest price I was going to get over the phone (and that was the only way I was willing to arrange the price). So, we loaded up the kids, drove a couple hours and bought our second Accord in three years.

Once we got to the dealership everything went smoothly. We got the price that we were quoted and have been happy ever since.

As for the car, my wife drives it on a daily basis, but with a couple of trips on the East Coast we have put 4,500 mile on the car already. In this time I have thoroughly enjoyed the car. It has great power, good gas mileage, comfortable seats and plenty of room.

Thanks to those who shared their purchase experiences and hopefully this will also be helpful.

EX v-6 for 23,900 and $4000 trade on 1998 old's intrigue with 65,000 in good cond?
  • spinningfreespinningfree Member Posts: 1
I've been looking around a couple websites and actual dealerships (Washington, DC/ Northern VA area) and noticed none of the dealerships carry the EX-V6 coupe w/navigation. Are these in high demand?

If you did purchase one from the DC area please let me know where and at what price.

    Thanks!!

So what did you buy & what Invoice price were you quoted? We all would like to know.
  • filodfilod Member Posts: 189
I got mine at invoice which I think was $23,675. Reading the post gativ got it for $23,400. Considering that they will make some good money from your trade in (they always do because it is usually much lower than if you sell yourself), I guess you can knock off some $ from their offer of $23,900 (plus tax of course)

You just had a wonderful deal! I am also in MD and want a LX or EX. $18,000 OTD for LX is the lowest price I have ever seen in this board. $20,500 OTD (MD tax) for a EX is also a great price for me. Could you please tell us who the dealer was and the name of saleperson? Or you can send the info to shangyd@hotmail.com

    Thank you very much!

Did you get an LX or Ex? Which engine? Also, how
did you get below invoice? Is it an '03?

I was quoted $22,310 for an LX V-6 here in the Dayton, Ohio area. That price includes the dealer adding the leather interior for $900.

Also, is there any way to avoid destination charges? I was surprised to learn that dealers near the Honda plant in Marysville, Ohio still include a destination charge.

If anyone has advice, thank you.

Destination charges are on the manufacturer's sticker. They are the same everywhere in the 48 states. They are also on the invoice. No, they cannot be taken off.
