I tried to replicate this deal with Capital Honda but they said you didn't get an auto dimming mirror or rear deck lid for the price your quoted. Who should I belive?
  • aeonpurdueaeonpurdue Member Posts: 8
On carsdirect.com, the price they give me is now $200 less than it was last week. You may want to check this out.

    2004 Honda Accord 2dr Coupe 3.0 EX w/Auto/Leather/XM

    CarsDirect price (ZIP 47909):
    was $24133
    now $23933

Under the incentives/rebates listing, it says this has special pricing that expires on 05/31/04. Any idea what this is?
  • aeonpurdueaeonpurdue Member Posts: 8
In the incentives/rebates section on Edmunds it shows 1.9%/2.9%/3.9% APR for 36/48/60 months from 05/04/04 - 07/06/04.
  • jruffjruff Member Posts: 8
But none of those rates show up on Honda's website. Nor do the dealer rebats that everyone has been talking about.

If the rebates are out there, why doesn't Honda advertise them like everyone else does? I can't watch tv or listen to the radio for fifteen minutes without hearing about gm's truck-a-thon or something of the like.

    What gives?

bavenda, not sure what to say to that. It's up to you to decide who to believe, and ulitimately it doesn't matter who you believe if they refuse to give you the price.

Have you tried getting quotes from other dealers? Remember I got the price through their matching policy.
  • figelwumpfigelwump Member Posts: 34
Also, bavenda, I would appreciate it if you did not go around brandishing the deal I got to dealers and trying to get them to match it. The idea of my post was to illustrate the _process_, and to show that good results can come from a solid process. Maybe I got a good end-of-the-month deal, maybe there were manufacturer-dealer incentives that were removed for May. Maybe April numbers were good, and dealers are reluctant to deal early in the month. There are a whole host of factors that could affect your experience and final result. Good luck...

    Hello all ..

I purchased a new Accord EX-V6 on 4 May 2004 for $23725 + tax, license and documentary fees. This figure is approximately $500 UNDER invoice and included a dealer's "pack" of 3 different HONDA branded accessories for the Accord, which were wheel locks, trunk liner and mud flaps for all 4 wheels. I thought the price was so good that I didn't complain about the pack. The dealer agreed to lower the "asking price" of the pack from $599 to $385, which he said was his "cost". I knew at that time that the actual cost of mud flaps, trunk liner and wheel locks is closer to $200, but I thought the deal was so good that I didn't want to jeopardize it.

I used edmunds.com to get an online quote from various Honda dealers in the Southern Cal area. I was surprised that most of the dealers I queried responded with a hard number and that the number was below invoice.

If anyone is curious, I got e-mail quotes, below invoice, from Nelson Honda and Diamond Bar Honda. These dealers are in Los Angeles County in Southern California.

I am beginning to think that I didn't just luck into a situation, but that this is becoming commonplace. Has anyone gotten deals on the Accord to $500 below invoice in May 2004?

This price was also available in April 2004.

    Regards,

I was hoping to get some figures on recent purchases made on EX-V6's in the Atlanta area. I'm in the preliminary stages of purchasing a new Accord and wanted to get a good idea of what deals look like and which dealerships have the best offers. Specifically I'm looking at 2dr EX-V6's w/o Nav system. Anyone with info you think is relevant I'd be happy to hear from you! Thanks!
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
xjones75: While we haven't bought an Accord EX V7 in the Atlanta area recently we have bought 8 new Hondas from various local dealers over the last few years. Our best experiences have been at Gwinnet Place (huge inventory) and Hennessy Honda (bought a car there last Saturday).

Team Honda in Lithia Springs and Ed Voyles Honda are close behind.

We will never go back to Lanier Honda, although a few people on here have bought from there and have been satisfied. We went there before we bought our 03 coupe and they wanted a crazy amount of money for a car we purchased for invoice at Team Honda.

I purchased my Accord EX-V6 on April 30th for $23642+TTL. Mine also included the dealer "3-pack" and an environmental protection package(2 year warranty). I purchased in Dallas, Texas.

jruff> If the rebates are out there, why doesn't
jruff> Honda advertise them like everyone else
    jruff> does?

I don't have a definitive answer for you just a guess. By offering "stealth" discounts through "Marketing Support" (same thing as Manufacturer to Dealer Cash), Honda may be seeking to keep their resale value high.

Typically, direct Consumer rebates lower the resale value of vehicles.

Also, in some parts of the country where sales are already steady or competition among Honda dealers is weak then the dealer will just keep this additional cash as profit. There is no mandate to pass it along to consumers as there would be as a customer rebate.

jruff> But none of those rates show up on
jruff> Honda's website. Nor do the dealer rebats
jruff> that everyone has been talking about.

Usually, these "Marketing Support" deals show up here on Edmunds in their Incentive and Rebate section.

Between March 15 and 30 it showed that Honda was offering a $400 "Marketing Support" to dealers. Since then I have checked periodically for a similar offering in April and May. I never saw any listed. However I suspect that there was "something" out there because quite a few folks reported on this board getting deals below true dealer cost (Invoice minus Holdback) in April.

Perhaps, Edmunds just didn't know of these offers and therefor never posted them. I don't know the answer. I too have seen various postings on these boards saying there is a $200 to $600 "Marketing Support" available at this time.

One person said the dealer told them that there was Mfg to Dlr cash available. Getting it from the horses mouth is probably pretty reliable. This of course is to be distinquished from any kind of "dealer discount" off MSRP which is probably just a come-on.

Perhaps someone who has had recent contact or is in current negotiations with a Honda dealer can ask them straght out if there are curently any Mfg to Dlr incentives and in what amount and how long they last and then post the result here.

I just read in the Washington Post the other day that Honda's sales were off by 2.4% in April.

"...Among Japanese automakers, Toyota rose 10 percent, Nissan Motor increased 14 percent and Honda Motor dropped 2.4 percent."

Honda finally updated their website with the current financing offers. Maybe they had to check on Edmunds to see what they were offering. ;)

Just bought a 2004 v6 nav accord at $150.00 less than invoice in so cal. It was the cars direct price but never had a dealer attached to it. Had to jawbone the local dealer a little bit. But they agreed, no trade-in or dealer accesories. $25891.00 plus T&L. Also the salesmen was not aware of the financing from honda.

We just completed a deal at Hennessey Honda. It was simpler than I could ever imagine. We purchased a 2004 Accord EX-L for $23,000 out the door, including all fees and 7% sales tax. We gor several quotes within $200-$400 of each other- Hennessey just had the car we wanted.
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
We bought our Odyssey at Hennessy last weekend. They did have a nice selection of Accords.

I just checked the prices at Intellichoice

Honda EX V6 auto with leather and nav - 23,145
Honda EX V6 auto with leather NO nav - 21,348

Are these realistic prices because I am getting internet quotes from dealers 1800-2000 over these. I live in the San Fran bay area.

You should definitely use the fax method. I bought a Toyota Sienna by fax 18 months ago and two weeks ago an Accord EX 4cy with Navi using email/web form methods. I ended up getting the price I wanted on the Accord, but it was much harder. Here's the deal: The internet department is just regular salespeople in disguise. They will start way high and don't have the authority to really wheel-and-deal. You need to work with the fleet manager, but they don't work online. I suggest that you pick out 7-10 dealers close to you and call the main phone number. Tell the receptionist you are going to place a bid for the fleet manager and need his or her direct fax number and name. This is often a different number than the advertised fax number. It is very important to get the person's name and fax it to him/her directly. I know this is more work but it is worth it--if you don't do this, it could get scooped up by a normal, powerless salesperson who can't cut a deal. See my post #4406 for an example of what should be on the fax. Then be ready for your phone to ring. Since you are dealing with a manager directly, you will start off at a much lower price. On Accords right now, you should pay $500-800 below invoice at least. The internet dept will start you out $800 or more above invoice, in my experience. I'd also suggest waiting until the last week of the month to start faxing. By then, the fleet manager will know if they need to do some quick, no profit deals to turn inventory low or get incentives from Honda. If you do this in the first 3/4 of the month, they won't be as desperate.

In Orange County CA I paid 26,991 out the door (OTD) for a graphite 2004 Honda Accord Sedan V-6 with Navigation.

I believe the base price was 24,599...

Took delivery of the car with 11 miles on it...

How did I do? Did I get ripped off? I think I got a good deal because I paid under invoice.

    Please advise.
  • rumpletzerrumpletzer Member Posts: 39
*smile* You got a 2004 Honda Accord Sedan V-6 with Navigation in graphite with 11 miles on it. You paid $26,991 OTD, and that's less than invoice. You think you got a good deal.

Why would you ask if you got ripped off? Some people pay a little more and some pay a little less. You think you got a good deal.

Enjoy your new car and be happy!

    That's MY advice. *grin*

Second, anyone know when the ')5's come out, or when you can order? And would you wait for an 05 now that it getting later in the year (albeit only May).

Thanks to all who contribute here.

The three Honda dealers here in Las Vegas want $24K or more. Honda Nevada dealer fees are very high in Las Vegas, or they say. Any truth to this claim? Sound like California has the deals. I'll go there if I have to. Please share any Las Vegas purchases. Thank You in advance.

Hello, New to this board so please bear with me. Looking to lease a 2004 accord ex-l w/leather. msrp 24,790. Talked with a fleet salesman at one local ohio dealer and here is my quote based on this lease. Zero down except 1st payment and tags, 15,000 miles per year at 200 over invoice. His quote came back 407.07 for 24 months-379.30 for 30 months and 339.02 for 36 months. I sent another email to another dealer looking to beat that deal. Should hear back from them on Monday and I am looking for advice and suggestions on next step to take. Is this dealer way out in left field or am I in the ballgame. Need some advice. Thanks Randy-Ranbobpta@woh.rr.com

When you really think about it, the month might not matter much at all. I bought my 2004 Accord EX-L 4 cyl. AT sedan in late August, 2003, just a week or two after the '04s were introduced. I paid about $230 over invoice at the very start of the model year, so I'll have had a full year to enjoy the new, '04 car.

It stands to reason that the car should be heavily discounted from what I paid because nobody is standing in line to purchase any mid-sized sedans these days, and a shiny new 2004 Accord will be one model year old in about 3 months. So, an '04 should now be VERY close to a clearance sale price which should be well below invoice.

If you plan to buy an Accord LX or an EX that doesn't have the side, curtain airbags, be aware that ALL 2005 Accords will have them as standard equipment. That might be a good reason to wait until the '05s are introduced if you can wait 3 to 4 months. When the '05s appear, they will be favorably priced because the Accord will be a carryover model in the 3rd year of its 5 year cycle.

Nobody will give a hoot about the '05s as they didn't at the start of the 2nd year either, so you'll still get a good deal on a car that will be new for a FULL year.

Whatever you save by buying this late in the year will cost you when you sell or trade the car which will be one model year older very soon. So waiting for a year-end deal might be false economy unless you plan to run the car until its wheels fall off.......Richard

Looks like you got a great deal. I paid 22600 OTD for an EX w/o leather and thought this to be a fair (not super great) price. Sales tax in SF Bay Area is 8.5%. What's the licence in TX? Here is was $190.
  • billb656billb656 Member Posts: 2
That was without NAV and yes, that was the out-the-door price. I'm really happy with the pricing, with the dealership, and especially with the vehicle!

We bought a Honda Accord EX 4 cyl w/ cloth for our daughter last week. I researched on Edmunds and Cars Direct to know what a good deal would be and simply called the internet managers at seven dealerships in Charlotte and surrounding areas. I got the best price and one I knew was a good deal from Crown Honda on Independence Blvd in Charlotte. They were $1000 lower than the other Charlotte dealer and lower than all the dealers in the smaller towns. Here's the breakdown:
Sales Price: $19,940 ($799 under invoice)
    NC Tax 598
    Title/License 55
    Doc Fee 299

    Total OTD $20,892
This pricing was good for what they had on their lot. Hopefully this will help some North Carolina shoppers. Also, these cars are poorly rated by the National Highway Safety Institute when they don't have the side curtain air bags but have a good crash test rating with the side bags.

zaitooni, obviously those would be unbelievable deals if you could get a dealer to match it. The prices on Intellichoice's site look suspect, though, because their invoice prices (and even MSRP) are way off. Not sure where their numbers are coming from...

    Hi folks,
I know this is probably a basic question for most folks, but this is our first car so I'm not sure-- when/if I buy the car using Honda's financing, do I receive the title to the car? Or do I only receive it after I've paid off the financing? I've talked with some friends and received conflicting answers, so I wanted to pose it to you all -- the experts -- for a definitive answer.
Thanks in advance for your input, I appreciate it!
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
It depends on what state you live in. Some states have a two-part title where you receive 1 part when you purchase the vehicle and the second part goes to the lien holder until you pay the car off, other states give you the title with a lien on it and the finance company will send you a lien release when the loan is paid off, and the other states send the title directly to the lien holder and do not receive anything.

    Hi all,

I have a newbie question about buying a car from another state. I currently reside in Maryland due to work, but my permanent residence and my driver's license is from NYC and I would to get my car registered there.

If I buy a car in MD, do I have to pay sales tax to both MD AND NY? How does that all work? Do I end up having to basically pay double to everything?
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
but if someone from another state buys a car here in GA they are not charged GA sales tax. They pay the doc fee but they must pay sales tax in the state the vehicle will be registered in. My advice is to check with your local DMV and maybe the DMV for the state/county you plan to buy the car in.

I finally made my purchase thos past weekend, and I wanted to thank all of you guys for your help in helping me secure what I believe is a great price. I used the email method, and sent to all dealers in the Chicago area. I ended up driving nearly an hour away from home, but it was worth it for the deal I got. So here are my details:
    Silver EX V-6 w/Nav
24,700 (including dest), final out the door of 26,767. No trade.
Thanks again to everyone for all of your help.
My only regret was letting my dad talk me into tacking on the warranty @ 899. But it was my choice to bring him along (I'm a recent college grad, and thought I might need a cosigner).

jackpo> do I have to pay sales tax to both MD AND NY?

Many states and/or localities (mine does) have a law that if your vehicle is "garaged" in their jurisdiction for more than 30 days then you must title and register your car at that residence. I would check with the local MVA in MD or by searching their web site at http://www.mva.state.md.us/ for the correct answer.

I live in VA and purchased my vehicle in MD in January. I only paid the VA tax which is 3% instead of MD's 5%. I was required to obtain a MD Temp tag (good for 60 days) from the dealer for $15 in order to drive off the lot.

My guess is that you will only have to pay one time. I would guess that MD's rate is lower than NY and would be to your advantage to tag & title it there anyway.

However I think the general threshold to be in the location that you originally titled and registered the new vehicle is 6 months (although it probably varys according to jurisdiction.) Usually after that time period you can move to another state and reregister the car without paying "sales tax" again.

I just purchased a new Silver EX, V6 with Nav for 24,700 ( I believe this is about 800 less invoice ). It is important to note that I had a trade, but negotiated my buy price before introducing the trade. In addition, I purchased the Honda 7 Year/100K extended warranty ( zero deductible ) and also a spoiler ( smaller, subtle one ). I paid $1425 for these two options. All in all, we are happy with the deal and my wife is loving her new accord.

I just bought a 2004 EX V-6 MT w/Nav for $25,868 OTD. It did sustain some hail damage, however, as part of the purchase agreement, the hail damage will be repaired at their expense, other that, the car is brand new. Best price i've seen on here so far :)

    Hi everyone,
Thanks in advance for any insight/advice you may offer. I've done all my research and am ready to try to buy a EX-V6 (withOUT the NAV). No add-ons required. Here's my thinking:

    Invoice - $23,754
    Holdback - (792) (3% of MSRP)
Cash Rebate - (400) (references around internet)
    Dealer Cost - $22,562
    Reasonable Profit for Dealer (3%) - 677
    Destination Charge - 490
    Offer to Dealer = $23,729

How's the logic? Any suggestions? I was thinking we'd start at $23,500 and cap at $24,000.

This will be a cash deal - does that change anything?

    THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!
