2004 EX-V6 Navi Sedan, Graphite Pearl
$25,487.00......Sale Price
$26,635.02......TOTAL AMOUNT OUT THE DOOR
Thoughts???
I just started sending out for internet quotes and I was checking on a 2004 Honda Accord Sedan DX with auto trans.
A dealer e-mailed me with a quote: $14,627.00 plus sales tax and registration fees. A/c is another $1295.00 extra.
Is this a decent quote?
Would it be better to go for a Lx model?
I'm in southern California BTW.
Thanks.......Joe Carnut
Do you think the price is OK on the DX though?
It seem like it is well below the Edmunds TMV invoice price.
Anyone else have some SoCal accord prices?
Thanks.........Joe
How much did you want to pay?
I have time on my side, and I'll have to check the prices on options for the DX. I want a/c and possibly the power door locks if reasonable. I'll have to see how it works out on paper. Also from what I've read on these posts I should be able to get the price down a little as this is an initial quote from the dealer.
I have been checking cars as of late and never really considered the Accord because they didnt seem affordable at the time. Then I thought maybe I would keep my car another year but would still send for quotes just in case a good deal popped up. Then I got the DX quote, and it got my motor working again.
Thanks for the advice anonymousposts.
If you want power locks and AC I would stick with the LX. power locks would be aftermarket and might affect your original manufacturer warranty.
What do you all think ?

The particular Accord LX you are wanting has a MSRP of $20590. including the $490 destination and handling. I can sell it to you for $18288.+ TTL. This would give you a drive out figure of $19653.16 including taxes and titling fees.
You will not find any unwanted accessory packages on our vehicles nor any hidden fees.

We have been procrastinating about purchasing a Honda LX 4 dr. 5A sedan/side airbags for sometime. I have gotten excellent information from this board on internet purchases--especially from Musicboy. I have one more question: Is it better to solicit a bid by asking the dealer's best price for an X model or make an offer?
If I make an offer of $18,000 OTD for this car and the dealer says no should I continue to negotiate with the same dealership?
It sounds like this car can even be purchased for less than $18,000 OTD because of dealer incentives. I wonder if I should offer $17,8000--and even ask them to include free 5 year 100 K warranty, but then what if they don't take me seriously...? Thanks for all suggestions.

The vehicle described more specifically is a 2004 Honda Accord LX 4dr Sedan w/Dual Side Airbags (2.4L 4cyl 5A) (CM5644EW). I purchased one on January 30, 2004 for $17,752.33 (incl. destination and processing fees but not TT&L.)I paid $18,480.90 (incl TT&L)(mud flaps, wheel locks and pinstripes were included at no extra charge.)
You can read the complete story of my experience by reading my mesage #3825 here on Edmunds Town Hall Honda Accord: Price Paid And Buying Experience.
I don't know how the tax title & tag structure in your jurisdiction is calculated so lets just compare the price (incl dest) before TTL on the vehicle.
The true dealer cost on the vehicle (including destination) is Invoice ($18,808) minus Holdback ($610.50) minus Incentives (???) which is $18,197.50.
Now its been reported on these boards that there is a $400 "Marketing Assistance" to the Honda dealer right now. If that is true you should reduce the true dealer cost to $17,797.50. Therefore, it appears that you probably can do better that the current quote from this dealer of $18,288.
The only way to know for sure is to set up a situation in which area dealers will bid for your business. I've written extensively on this process on this board before and so as not to annoy regular readers with my experience again, I will refer you to the relevant messages that I have posted here regarding my process or answers to others questions about it.
You can get to them by going to the top of the page here and typing in the message number in the appropriate space and pressing “Go”. The messages are 3825, 3878, 3898, 4207, 4247, 4281, 4310 and 4389.

miragesea> best price for an X model or make an offer?
Hi miragesea,
My advice is to solicit the dealers bids first. Don't end up negotiating against yourself by offering some figure that they might have easily beaten had you just given them the opportunity.
By sending out the "Request For Bid Form" along with indicating that you are sending it to multiple area dealers you have already pressured them to probably make you their best offer first thinking that you might just grab the first reasonable offer and they will be out altogether. You can always make an offer to your Internet salesperson to meet "your" price at a later stage. Someone will if you've got enough dealers in play.
There will be some who will want a second bite at the apple and will call you to see how their deal stacked up. The dealer I ultimately bought from did exactly this. Their initial deal was not really close to being the lowest but they offered to beat the lowest price I got by $200.
miragesea> If I make an offer of $18,000 OTD for this car and
miragesea> the dealer says no should I continue to negotiate with
miragesea> the same dealership?
Just tell them if they want to "earn your business" they will have to do better than that. Hang tight and someone will.
You may want opinions from others but this is what I would do because it works.
Just last weekend I helped a friend purchase a 2004 Nissan Frontier Ex Cab pick-up truck using my dealer "Request For Bid Form" and Fax attack method and once again the area dealers were falling all over themselves to beat the lowest price he had received.
Having evaluated the true dealer coast in that transaction I was once again suprised at how good a deal he got. Not only less than the dollar amount he was looking for but an upgraded vehicle to include everything. I guestimate about $1000 in savings over what he initially expected and had tried to negotiate the old fashioned way.
Are we talking coupe or sedan for that pricing?
I was just looking at Cars Direct price (using a Dallas, TX area zip code) and I was getting a target price of $18,907 for the 2004 Honda Accord LX 4dr Sedan w/Dual Side Airbags (2.4L 4cyl 5A) (CM5644EW) which is the model that manum was getting quoted on.
As per my earlier post, the true dealer cost for the vehicle(including $400 Mfg to Dlr incentive) is $17,797.50. But that doesnt mean he might not find a dealer willing to sell it cheaper (and/or to add accessories) to move it off the lot for the reasons you stated in your post.
IOW, isn't it a hassle to buy a car 50 or 100 miles away and then have to deal with any problems over that distance? Will the Honda dealer around the corner take care of you if you didn't buy it from them...or will they tell you to go take a hike? (Literally.)
I guess that was more than one question. :-) Thanks in advance.
I have never had a problem getting warranty work done on any car I own, even if it was purchased at another dealer. People move all the time.
I'm looking for new Accord EX automatic with side curtain airbags in Los Angeles. I have received quotes between $20,108 to $20,800. Base my calculation, the dealer cost after 3% holdback is $20,325. Currently, there is $400 cash incentive to dealers so the cost is $19,925. However, I found carsdirect.com quoted $20,058 in the end of April. Furthermore, someone paid $19,600 and $19,800 in San Fransisco last week of April. Do you think Honda gave more than $400 cash incentive in the end of last month?
I plan to buy silver Accord EX within one week.
Thanks
As the end of the month is coming next week, there is a possiblity that some dealers will eat some of their holdback if they need to make a figure. But, remember, a deal far below invoice that becomes stacked with a variety of fees on the back end can become a bad deal.
I would suggest asking for out the door bids, with all fees and taxes included. Good luck.
Do you think the 22,500 is about as good as I'm likely to do given my relative isolation and inability to pit 10 or more dealers against each other? To complicate things further, I'm in the market for about a thousand dollars worth of accessories(moonroof deflector, mudguards, gold trim, rear decklid spoiler), and am wondering if the outrageous prices my local dealer asks are generally negotiable? I mean, c'mon, 245.00 for mudguards?!
Also, I will ask one more time....when should I reveal that I have a trade in('01 Maxima)?
Sorry about the mishmash of questions here, but am hoping someone will jump in to advise me again. Thanks in advance
Before you go to the Honda dealer, decide how much you want for your trade, and then calculate an out-the-door offer (Price of new Honda with accessories minus value of your trade plus all taxes and fees). Keep it as simple as possible. Since there seems to be a $400 manufacturer to dealer incentive on the sedans, you should not accept any price over invoice.
Remember, you don't have to buy the car until you get the price you want. Honda will likely keep offering incentives to dealers through the summer to clear out the 04s.
A '01 Maxima is a nice ride. In fact, if I were you, I think I'd keep it a while longer. Good luck!

Paid 20437 (Car) + 430 (fees -- docs, titles, etc) + 1458 (Taxes) = 22325 out-the-door.
The car price was about 200 under what Carsdirect quoted me. The unadvertised Honda manufacturer-to-dealer incentive probably helped; I suspect the dealer is hiding some profit in his document fees, but most of the dealers around here seem to have high doc fees too. There were actually two better out-the-door prices, but they were on my second choice car color; I figured it was worth an extra $30 to get the color of car I wanted.
I had great luck with Internet solicitation. I emailed eight dealers; six responded back immediately, and five followed up with email quotes. Of those, two were under the CarsDirect price. I emailed the lowest bid back out to the other dealers, and all of them matched it or came close, so it came down to who could get me the exact color car I wanted the quickest. It was a very low stress, low hassle experience -- I fixed the OTD price via email, then went and did the paperwork and picked up the car. The internet salespeople who didn't get the deal were all very polite and friendly.
The dealers and internet salespople who gave me the best experience and competitive prices were Honda Car Land (Roswell, Devon Brown), Carey Paul Honda (Snellville, Joe Stafford & Forrest xx), Mike Patton Honda (Lagrange, Ronnie Barnes), Curry Honda (Atlanta, Ben Choi), and Gwinnett Place Honda (Duluth, Marianne Glaser).
Of course, no one wanted to give me much for my trade-in -- I ended up going to CarMax and selling the vehicle for $800 over what the dealer offered me. A great experience overall, though, and I love the car!
I am moving to Austin next week. I am looking forward to buying a Honda Accord LX sedan. Can somebody please recommend a good Honda dealer?
Thanks a lot.
Kevin.
THey didn't have the color I wanted in stock either, but went and picked one up for me the next day.
Just about invoice price. And a pretty good trade in for my KIA. It was the best deal I was offered. (and they are easy to work with too). If you call, please tell him I sent you
PS, do you have VW's too? I have a 1960 bug I am restoring.
I'm wondering, too, about your overall impressions of the vehicle. I'm coming off a Nissan Maxima which I love and am a little worried about the 4 cylinder having enough power. I'm also pretty neurotic when it comes to squeaks and rattles and am curious if your car has any. Any thoughts you have as a new owner would be of interest to me.
And, no, I don't currently own any VW's, but I had a bug and a bus back in the 70's. We do own, though, a 66 Falcon Futura with which we can't seem to part.
If I call, I'll tell them Cooksie(who is a she) sent me......Thanks so much!!
I had the mud guards added. THat is it. Liked the look. around 100 bucks. Lets see, dock fee was 50 bucks. Haven't heard a squeak or rattle yet. I truly love the car.I love the bells and whistles. Love how it rides and drives. I am used to SUVs having had them for the past 6 years so was a bit worried about 'sitting on the ground' (and I am short too) but I am not one bit sorry. Took the car on a trip this weekend (300 miles) and had a great drive with little effort on my part. Oh, and gas mileage first tank was 33 mpg.
I drove the V6 first and really wanted it but, also wanted the great gas mileage, and the 4 was about 2k cheaper. I feel it has plenty of power. I had a KIA before though with a small 4 so.... With an upside down trade in, they made me a great deal!! I was very pleased.
By the way, the real name is Cathy Cook. Thanks for telling Jim, if you go that route. It was really painless (till the first payment! LOL) for me.
Best of luck. Mine is blue:)
FWIW: Our Japan-built 04 EX-L has no squeaks or rattles. We have had it 8 months and it has 16,500 miles.
I started this process by e-mailing a number of dealers with a price bid of $24,822. This dealer came the closest, so we went down to meet them and talk. With this start, good numbers in my folder so they knew they couldn't B.S. us, and being firm with their attempts to sneak in additional profit, it took under 15 minutes to negotiate the deal.
I also got a quote of $22,3xx from another dealer for v6 coupe today, little too late.
Its been only 2 days but car has so far exceeded all expectations. car is so quiet and Electronic throttle control makes the ride smoother.
Had thought of getting metal-trimming but after seeing the gray interior which already includes some metal trimming (near gear shift box and door handles) - any additional metal would have been an overkill - in my opinion.
Thanks in advance!
I did not do much research on the price before I bought the car. Paid $21,600 for the car and the total out the door is just under $22,900. Is this a good deal?
Thanks a lot!
