I'm planning on sending out my email request for quotes on the EX that I want and I was wondering if any of you have had luck with requesting all the ad-ons too. I can't seem to locate ad-on invoice prices anywhere. I'd like to see what they actually cost. Any advice? The things I want included in my quote are: EX-4cyl w/side curtain airbags, protection pkg, spoiler, auto mirror w/ compass, moonroof visor, cargo net, tinted glass. I don't have to have all these things now, but I'm guessing it's much cheaper to get them in the quote now, than later. I realize that this may make things confusing though. Again, any advice. Also, I'm buying in the Dallas area. If there are any dealer recomendations/prices I'd appreciate it. I want to beat the Memorial Day rush. Thank you.

When you're emailing for a dealer's best quote, do you mention that you have a trade-in. Carmax gave me a quote of 3,400 for my van, so if a dealer meets that price it'll save a little on the taxes.

    Dan,

What is the dealership's name? Where in Northern VA? This price is the lowest I have seen. Please let me know.

    Thanks.
  • boxlaxmanboxlaxman Member Posts: 4
That looks like a great price. I just signed for the following in Northern VA:

    Accord EX V6 w/NAV=$24,991.85
    Destination=$490.00
    Processing fee=$289.00
    Taxes=$824.67
    Tags=$39.50
    TOTAL=$26,635.02

Look like you beat me by a bit as there is a $2000 retail difference on the Nav vs. non-Nav. I shopped big time to get this but I guess the Navs are getting harder to get as there was about a 10:1 ratio of non-Navs to Navs on the lot.

    Congrats....

Looking for some feedback from the forum. A local dealer is advertising an '04 Accord LX for $18,998 out the door. Price includes freight, sales tax, registration and processing fee- Is this a great deal or just good?

Also, I'm assuming that if I wait till the '05 are on the lot I might be able to pick up an '04 EX with sunroof for the same price. Am I crazy- comments?
  • whitecloud1whitecloud1 Member Posts: 268
About the '04 EX for under 20K. I really doubt it. Unless Honda overproduces the '04, a savings of thousands is possible but I would expect an '04 EX to be gone long before the dealer would sacrifice to sell for under 20K.

    CarsDirect Price:$20,320
    MSRP Price: $22,190Invoice Price : N/AWe

This is an EX 4 wo/navi on the Carsdirect site. I would think you could get it at a dealer for a little under 20K...
  • rampedramped Member Posts: 358
LX deal seems very good, although it is difficult to say exactly how good since sales tax varies from state to state.

It is definitely possible to get an EX for well under 20K now. I would think at least $19K to $19.5 K is possible in most areas. But, unless your sales tax is very low it will be difficult to get an EX out the door for under 20K.
  • stacey_burkestacey_burke Member Posts: 88
I was wondering if anyone that has been on the lots recently could tell me if there are any out there with Navi. I was reading that only 1 in 10 have Navi. Does anyone know if this is true?

I am planning to purchace a 4cyl accord sedan tonight.

    I have a quote for LX (tint+mudguard) = 17.5K + TTL
Instead of putting upgrades in LX, am now thinking of getting an EX.

Does 19-19.5K + TTL for an EX sound reasonable in Dallas area?

    any suggestions..
    thanx

I paid 20419 for an EX-L, and given that the leather quotes out at around ~1300, I'd think under 20k for a cloth EX would be perfectly doable.

What is the name of the dealership and where? $1,350 below invoice sounds like an excellent deal.

I live in Ohio and the dealers are not very willing to give a good deal. So, I am willing to drive/ fly somewhere else to get a good deal. Can someone please let me know the specific dealerships? I want to buy a EX V6 Automatic. I have been looking at this post the past few days and hoping to buy my car within these next few days. Thanks much.

I have been trying to buy a car for some time now and all these numbers are confusing me. If there is anybody that has recently bought a ex 4dr sedan could u please let me know what you paid for it. Include taxes and fees too please.

It seems there are several of us here in Dallas that are going to buy an Accord soon. I'm having an interesting time getting dealers to give me their lowest price. They just don't want to do it. I emailed Gunn Honda in San Antonio and they emailed right back with a good price. I hope the dealerships in Dallas respond quickly or I may be driving to San Antonio to get my Accord. Would love to hear other Dallas dealership info that the rest of you are coming up with.

I had an interesting experiance buying in Dallas today for an EX (4cyl) sedan. (it had wheellocks, paint polish smthing, tint, mudguads, black protection thing over tires) 10miles on odometer

we wanted = compass + auto night rearview mirror + leather steering cover + outside temp. guage

Me and dad went in: 1st price $24.5K dealer quoted

    we responded back - 19K

dealer came back - 20.5 invoice + 450 destination .. he said car cost him 20.7K (add ons additional..)

    we responded back - 19.5K

dealer got his manager.. (5 mins of talk abt current affairs) and manager asked to split the difference

another 10 mins of politics talk etc..
we said max 20K (incl. all accessories + addons). Manager said Done.

Manager came back after 5 mins and said that he accidently overlooked that some accessories and addons were mentioned.. so price me be bit over 20K..

it was 9pm and told him to get back with us 2morrow with the final price on the accessories..

(BTW he quoted ridiculous prices on addones

625- rear mirror, 500 fr leather steering, 300 for outside temp guage)

    FYI

Thanks for sharing your experience. I will contact them.

Is Gunn Honda honest to deal with? I want to know whether they play tricks like calling you two weeks after you take the car and telling you finaning fell through so that you need to pay a higher APR.

Since I took a peek at your profile and see that you are in Manassas, VA then I know that your tax rate would be 3%.

I would think you can do better than that price of $18,998 OTD in the Metro DC area.

Back in January I purchased that vehicle but with side airbags for $18,480 OTD. That was before the alleged $400 Mfg to Dlr cash that you should be able to get deducted now.

Lets do the math on this vehicle:

I am assuming that you indicated that you are purchasing a 2004 Honda Accord LX 4dr Sedan (without side airbags) 2.4L 4cyl 5A) (CM5634PLW).

    MSRP: $20,100 INVOICE: $18,092.54
    DEST: $ 490 DEST: $ 490
    TOTAL: $20,590 TOTAL: $18,582.54

The true dealer cost (including destination) is Invoice ($18,582.54)
minus Holdback ($603) minus Incentives (presumed to be $400) which is $17,579.54.

Now if you are purchasing with side airbags add roughly $250. If you really buying a V6 instead of an I4 then we'll need to recalculate all over.

Now in the Wash DC Honda Accord market today and using a comprehensive email/fax attack (as I've previously described here on Edmunds)I would venture to say that you should be able to find a dealer that will sell to you at that price or even better probably including some extra accessories at no charge (i.e. mud guards, wheel locks, pinstripes.)

If you do not want to spend the time to ferret out the really Rock Bottom price available in this area by sending multiple emails then I would at least consider emailing Hendrick Honda of Woodbridge, VA for a quote since they are usually a low price dealer. Just ask them for their price, don't bid against yourself by asking them to beat the current price you have. You can always do that later.

Musicboy, when you say you purchased your car for 18,480 OTD and yours has side airbags, do you mean side curtain airbags?

I've gotten confused in all this. I wanted fabric interior with side curtain airbags and was later told I had to get leather (EXL) to get the side curtain airbags. That brings the price up. Are the side airbags you're referring to in the front seats optional? I'm wanted the safest car for the best price. Do I have to go to the EXL to get that?
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
You do have to opt for the EXL to get side curtain air bags in the 2004 Accord. Regular side air bags are standard on all EX models. If you really want cloth instead of leather and can wait a few months supposedly the 2005 Accord will include side curtain airbags as standard equipment on all trim lines.

Thanks for the advice and I have am all ready going down the road you sugested. You are right on, Hendrick Honda has offered me the best price so far. $18,697.67 with door/wheel guards, pin strips, mud flaps and floor mats.

2 questions for you, or anyone else who would like to answer them, where is this Incentive documented as I have had several people tell me there is no incentive on the accord, including a person I know at a Honda dealership. 2nd question, approximately how much will I save/if any if I wait to buy '04 when the 05's hit the lot in august/sept?

Just wanted to update that I got the dealer right down the street to give me automatic LX/side airbags with appearance package for $18,500 out the door. Only question is how much better can this get if I wait till the 05's are on the lot and they really want to get rid of the 04's?

I think you can confirm this at the Honda site, but
to my knowledge Honda's side air bag is the curtain type only across all their model lines.

Would anyone who has purchased a 4cyl EX sedan in the NW Ohio area post what they paid, what options were added, as well as indicate if the price is OTD and what dealership you purchased it from?

I am just trying to find out if it is possible to get one for invoice or just below in this area.
  • renglekarengleka Member Posts: 20
I am assuming that it is the area that I live in because I cannot find a quote even close to the posts of $25,000 for the Accord ex v6 w/ nav. I am from western PA and I have even called/e-mailed parts of Ohio with no luck. I received quotes of invoice but not much better. Any thoughts or suggestions? This will be my first car so I am not sure how to approach dealers with pricing. Anyone doing better in this area??
  • 04accordcoupe04accordcoupe Member Posts: 9
EXL for 20419 did not include TTL (given this price, I'd guess ~19200 should be possible for a cloth EX).
    --
Those asking about side/side curtain airbags, they're two different types of airbags:

Side airbags are standard on EX, EX-L, and all V6 models, and are an option on the LX.

Side curtain airbags are standard on the EX-L and EX-V6, and an option on the EX.

The short answer is no you don't have to get an EXL in order to get Side Curtain Air Bags.

For the sake of this discussion I am assuming that you are referring to purchasing an Accord vehicle with a I4-CYL VTEC (2.4 Liter)engine.

That being the case, regarding side airbags, you can purchase an LX [Honda Model Number: CM5644EW Sedan 4D (Auto)(w/Front Side Impact Air Bags)], which is the model I purchased (MSRP incl dest: 20,840,) but it does not have the superior side curtain head airbags.

You can purchase an EX [Honda Model Number: CM5674JW Sedan 4D (Auto)w/Cloth Interior & Side Curtain Air Bags] (MSRP incl dest: 23,290,) which also includes Front Side Impact Air Bags as well.

Or you can purchase an EXL [Honda Model Number: CM5684JNW Sedan 4D (Auto)(w/Leather Interior)](MSRP incl dest: 24,790,)which includes both Front Side Impact Air Bags and Side Curtain Air Bags.

The EX cloth w/ side curtain air bags trim level was added in the 2004 model lineup. In 2003 you had to go with the more expensive EXL to get them.

It is been reported that all Accords (at least from the LX up) will come standard with side & head curtin airbags in the 2005 model year.

I would have liked to have gotten Head Curtin airbags myself for the additional safety factor but I'm tall and the EX models all come with moonroofs that cut out about an inch and a half of headroom that the LX's gain.

kaczmarczyk> where is this Incentive documented as I have had
kaczmarczyk> several people tell me there is no incentive on the
kaczmarczyk> accord, including a person I know at a Honda dealership.

I have not seen any actual documentation of this incentive on these boards myself. That is why I referred to them as "alleged". There have been numerous posts on these boards that there is an incentive out there.

As I made my purchase back in January, I don't have any current contact with any sales department in order to compare current sales offers.

I did see actual documentation for a $400 "Marketing Support" (which is Manufacturer to Dealer Cash)on Accords good between March 15 and 31 posted on Edmunds Incentive area: http://www.edmunds.com/incentives/RebateController?step=2&mod- - elId=100503589&setzip=22152&state=VA&tid=edmunds.n.in- - centivesindex.incentives.2.2.Honda* There are no incentives listed there now.

It has been presumed that there is some kind of incentive out there because so many of the recent deals have been below true dealer cost. While some dealers may have excess inventory to move and may be willing to do so at a loss it seems unlikely that all of them are at this time.

Technically the Mfg to Dlr cash belongs to the dealer however in a competitive market it's likely to be give to the consumer in order to match competitors pricing.

That is why I encourage (OK preach) buyers to do an email/fax blast to all area dealers in order to let that competition ferret out the lowest available current pricing in your local area.

kaczmarczyk> I got the dealer right down the street to give me
kaczmarczyk> automatic LX/side airbags with appearance package for
    kaczmarczyk> $18,500 out the door.

I presume that to be Koons. What does the "appearance package" (as they define it) include? Otherwise (assuming there is no "incentive" out there) a good deal matching mine in January.

Just for grins try emailing Criswell Honda, Sport Honda, O'Donnell Honda, and Honda of Bowie, all suburban MD dealers for their price. If it's lower than what you've already got, ask Koons to beat it (or as a last resort to at least match it.)

kaczmarczyk> question is how much better can this get if I wait till
kaczmarczyk> the 05's are on the lot and they really want to get rid
    kaczmarczyk> of the 04's?

I don't have an answer for that. You will have a one year depreciated new vehicle at that time though. Also consider if the price of gas continues to rise and folks start turning away from their SUV's and back to more fuel efficient vehicles then the supply and demand equation could flip and the current deep discounts could dissapear altogether.

I just purchased a EX-V6 two days ago. I now find that the lumbar support is positioned much too high on the back rest, or there is possibly an over stuffing of the padding during its construction.

I'm acutely aware of the discomfort after driving only a few miles. It will push inwards around the middle back area , and cause me back pains. Other test driven V6's did not exhibit this problem.

My question is, what can I expect from the dealer when attempting to resolve this problem. I seriously cannot see myself dealing with this problem for the next three years.

Any advice on how to possibly successfully resolve this problem through warranty, or whatever, would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to go the dealer with this problem blindly.
  • richards38richards38 Member Posts: 606
The lumbar bulge is a bit high on the seat, but just twist the knob on the inboard side of the seatback and the surface will flatten to eliminate the bump.

Everyone's back is different, of course--I drove 8.5 hours straight (except for 3 very brief stops) on a trip and the seats were very comfortable. My usually aching back felt fine during and after all that sitting in the Accord EX-L's leather seats........Richard
  • ckturtleckturtle Member Posts: 4
First, thank you for your advice. However, this particular cars driver's seat still has a noticeable bump, even with the lumbar support adjusted fully down. This bump which is situated somewhat higher on the backrest will actually compound the problem that a lumbar support was originally designed to eliminate.

Anyone with advice on what rights a consumer has with a very newly purchased vehicle and a probable incorrectly manufactured driver seat will be greatly appreciated. I'll be taking the car in tomorrow.

See post #4657; I purchased in the Atlanta area from Gwinnett Place Honda, though all of the dealers and internet salespeople listed in that post offered prices competitive with what I purchased. I'd also particularly recommend Carey Paul Honda in Snellville which is where we bought our Odyssey. They actually gave me a better price on the Accord, but since he couldn't get the color I wanted, I paid an extra $30 and went to another dealership. You can get to the individual dealer websites by doing a zipcode search from the main Honda car site using an Atlanta zipcode (30033 should bring them all up).

Just wnated to thank everyone, especially MusicBoy. Wife got her '04 Accord LX last night, although without the side curtain airbags. Got the accord for $17,550 +TTL. There was a misunderstanding on the qouted price of $18,500 out the door that I referrenced above-Koons management didn't realize that I was including side air bags in that qoute and they were not. To their defense when I was talking price with them Tuesday night for the first time I was asking for a price specifically without side airbags and I am not really sure that I made it clear to them that I wanted qoute to include them- my bad. Anyway, I feel that they made up the $225 in my trade in as they beat CarMax by $550. Some other interesting notes: offered 3.25% 5 year loan, finiance got pro pack (paint/rust/cloth/undercarriage protection) for $250 (wife wanted it, what could I do?) and 7 year 75,000 mile for $840 (again wife wanted it, what could I do?!!!)

So, Accord LX auto with mud flaps/mats/pin strip/door & wheel guards, pro pack protection, 7 year/75,000 mile warranty for $19,600 out the door at 3.25% and included 4 free oil changes. Most importantly, wife is very happy. I might have left a hundred here or there on the table and I don't think we needed the pro pack and warranty but...all in all, very happy and the service at Koons was terrific and they have always been good to me! Thanks everyone!

I am moving from Minnesota to Indiana. I want to buy a Accord V6 recently. I don't know if I should buy it before I move. Do I need to pay twice the tax/licsence/tab fee if I buy it in minnesota since I need to register it again after I move to Indiana? Can I get the same good quality services from honda dealers in Indiana even if I do not buy the car from them? Do the benefits/service coupons offered by the dealer whom I will buy the car from make a lot of difference? What do you guys think?

    Thanks.
  • richards38richards38 Member Posts: 606
My advice is to go to your Honda dealer who surely has an extensive Accord inventory and sit in several cars. If the seats offer more adjustment to eliminate the lumbar discomfort, it'll be obvious to you and and to a Honda technician and the dealer should replace the seat in your car--it would clearly be a defect covered by the warranty.

About 10 years ago a friend of mine bought a Lexus ES 300 (or whatever the number was) and the leather on the driver's seat cushion was sewn to fabric at the rear of the cushion just below the lower edge of the seat back. The sewn edge created a bulky seam the dug into the driver's "backside." He showed the dealer that the seat was flawed--other Lexus cars in the dealer's inventory had seats on which the leather cushions extended well under the seatback so the driver wasn't sitting on a seam.

The dealer switched seats with another new Lexus in stock and the problem was solved--this friend was the only person I know who ever hated a Lexus and soon dumped it. He traded for a used Mercedes which is another story--talk about a money-eater! The Mercedes is gone now, too.

My Accord driver's seat is adjusted to just about eliminate the lumbar support because I agree that it is too high and uncomfortable. But when adjusted at its minimum, the Accord seat is one of the best car seats I've ever sat in........Richard

Today I leased an Accord EX V6 for 36 months/15K miles per year. $23,577 price + $595 acquisition fee for a total of $24,172 financed.

$325/month payment includes MI sales tax of 6%.

Dealer threw in mud flaps and trunk cargo net.

I paid first month + $160 doc fee + $23 title & plate transfer at signing.

Pretty easy deal. Jeffrey Honda in Metro-Detroit.

The dealer will be replacing the driver's seat after all! I almost got to drive a another new car off the lot, but they decided to go with the seat swap. Now, I only have to worry about the possible damages to the interior, when they take out the existing seat and replace it with another. Thanks again for the info!

You got a better deal than I. I just picked up a EX-V6 lease, here in Hawaii, for 36 months/12K per year at $349/month. This was at their newspaper ad LOW PRICE!
  • richards38richards38 Member Posts: 606
You're quite welcome! Glad the dealer was willing to accommodate you and correct the problem--the Accord seats are among the best in the industry so long as they're the way they were meant to be. Obviously there was a flaw in the lumbar adjuster in your particular car.

I wouldn't worry about interior damage--if there is any, you'll see it clearly and can bring it to the dealer's attention.

Be sure to use all the seat controls to make sure they're functioning properly when you pick up your car.....Richard

    A dilemma...

Just when I was getting ready to go car shopping, my present car develops this loud rattle when accelerating and at idle. The problem was diagnosed today as a failing catalytic converter, which will cost almost $900 to replace.

    So, do I:

    1) Spend the money on a 9 year old car with an Edmunds TMV of only around $2000 or

    2) Leave it as is, and take a beating on the trade (all a dealer has to do is start it up and it will rattle like crazy)

    3) Try to sell vehicle as is...and take a beating there, too?

Any ideas? (I know this should probably go in some other forum, but it's an Accord I'm shopping for). Thanks.
