What is of utmost importance to one customer is trivial to others. I get a lot more people who really don't care about side curtain airbags than those who do.

Civics WITH side airbags are sluggish sellers compared to those without. People will spend an extra 500.00 for a set of fog lights that are of little value but they will balk at the extra 300.00 for the side airbags.

I'm not sure what people mean when recommending you "repair the bumper"
my advice would be to swap the bumper with another new Accord without the holes. You get a new hole free bumper and the dealer can pass on your bumper to someone who requires having a license mounted on the front of their new Accord.

Has anyone purchased their Accord through Cars Direct? What can you share about your experience with them, both the good and the bad? Trying to decide if buying through them would be a good idea, especially since their current price on a V6 w/ Nav is well under invoice, and "no-haggle". Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

yeah I just call them to locate a 4dr ex auto, as they quote 300 above invoice. however one local dealer I contact via e -mail quote me 1 above invoice. So e-mailing the dealer, you'll probably save sew hundred dollar more

You may want to check carsdirect again. I was looking at EX Coupe. Earlier in the week it was showing $300 above invoice, now it shows $600 BELOW invoice.

I just wanted to say that this board has totally changed my outlook on buying cars! I sent out fax/e-mail bids to 27 dealerships in Northern Cal last Thursday, received 5 bids back Friday and purchased my car on Saturday.

    Here are the details:

    04 Accord LX V6
    Base: $19,825
    Doc: $45
    Tax: $1440.58
    License: $189
    Gap: $275
    HondaCare
    5 yr/100k $800
    -----------------
    TOTAL: $22,574.58

The car's been a blast to drive! I'm looking forward to a long relationship with it!

Both one of my friend and I want an accord. She want a LX and I want a EX. Does it help to bring the price down if we bundle our purchase together when we talk with dealers?

    Thanks.

I've been traveling out of the country so I'm slow in getting back to you. Gunn Honda is for real. I've been buying cars for 30 years and my recent experience with Gunn was been the best I've ever had. Quick email response, no nonsense price, no pressure to upsell and easy financing. The only follow ups were a courtesy call from the salesman after a week to make sure I was satisfied and then the usual dealer rating survey. I suggest you give them a chance. The internet salesman was B.H.

Just made the drive this afternoon from Austin to San Antonio to buy 04 EXL Sedan Auto 4 cyl

Here's the pricing I received from Gunn Honda:

    Sale Price $20,995.00
    State Sales Tax $1,312.18 (Texas)
    Inventory Tax $51.89
    Lic., Title, Inspection $127.05
    Documentary $50.00
    Total Out the Door $22,536.12

This was on initial (and very prompt) response to my email. Very pleasant sales process. Very professional. No added pressure. No surprises. Bottom line was exactly as quoted in the email, with minimal upsell pressure for add-ons or warranty. No "required" etching. Best car buying experience I've ever had.

Contacted Austin dealers to see if they would match my price. They didn't believe my quote, and told me not to bother coming into the dealership if I expected anything near that price.. so I drove right past them and waved on my way to San Antonio.

Very impressed with the car on the way back to Austin. Can't see how you can get a better car for the money, especially at this price. I'm very pleased.

accordlover> our purchase together when we talk with dealers?

Counldn't hurt. I would think that it might help motivate a dealer to make two sales instead of one.

I would suggest that you use an internet email attack in order to get bids rather then going dealer to dealer to find your best deal.

This method has been discussed on this board extensively. Just go back to messages posted since February of this year and read forward for the various experiences and the results of using this method.

    Hello,
I am looking to buy a 2004 EX V6 4-door sedan without navigation. How much should I pay for it? Has anyone had a good experience buying in PA/NJ/DE area? Also, Edmunds mentions 1.9% financing but none of the nearby dealers in PA seem to advertise it. Any ideas?

    Thanks for your help!

Next winter the lease on my truck will be up and it'll be time to buy a new car. Right now the Accord EX V6 6MT is in the lead. I've seen many people mention getting their cars for X dollars below invoice. I realize that almost everything is included in the Accord by trim level, but there are a few add-ons, such as the performance package, rear spoiler, etc. Most of these things are dealer installed, and I have not been able to find any type of pricing info on them. I was wondering if anyone can offer suggestions on how to find out how much each of these items adds to the base invoice price, so I know what kind of price I should expect, and what I'll be getting when I do start asking for quotes?

Thanks for any and all help.

I just looked up the rebates, and it looks like there are no dealer incentives on the Accord right now. Do they typically have dealer incentives before the new model year starts? I probably need to get something by winter, so I am in no hurry and can wait things out. I don't have much leverage for an e-mail attack since there are only 3 dealers in my state, and the nearest is 170 miles away (and generally has abot 5-6 Accords). Are there any other good buying services that have real low prices besides carsdirect?

One dealers no haggle internet price (the one 220 miles away) is $17,900 for a manual tranny LX w/out side airbags. From what I am reading here, I take it I can do about $500 or more better than than. Is this the case?
  • 4bib4bib Member Posts: 17
Could someone please comment on OTD (including taxes & TTL) prices I got from dealers
    for Accord 2.4(4dr) LX w/side airbags: $19,800
and Accord 2.4 EX with leather : $23,500
In my situation I need to buy a car very soon (my old Altima told me final g'buy).
Also, is it true that EX 4 cyl Accord with leather has no option for side curtain airbags?
I would really appreciate for you help on this.

I used Carsdirect to buy an 04 ex v6 navi. At the time (October 2003)04 ex v6 navi in Desert mist were in short supply and dealers were not dealing. I paid 300 over invoice and an additional 600 for the protection pak, fogs, auto dimming mirror, wheel locks and had the cargo net thrown in. Price included installation.

I paid $26,890 for all of the above plus $53 doc fee and $80 lisc transfer fee. My only other cost was taxes. (Remember, this was October 2003)

Price your car with all of the options you want. Dealers will often match or beat the CarsDirect price wtihout options and then try to clean your clock on the options. With the options included CarsDirect was at least 500-700 cheaper than the dealers, including the internet reps.

"Also, is it true that EX 4 cyl Accord with leather has no option for side curtain airbags?"

That is correct--there is no option for side curtain airbags on EX-L Accords (4 cyl. w/leather) because the side curtain airbags are standard on that model--that's the car I have so I know it's correct. It's one of the reasons I chose that model Accord--I wanted curtains.

As for prices, I paid $22,700 last August for one of the first '04s and with only about 2 months before the '05s appear, the price should now be much less--say, somewhere between $21,000 and $21,800 before tax, license, and other fees that are remitted to state and local entities.

EX models without leather are available with optional side curtains. It is my understanding that ALL 2005 Accords will be equipped with side curtain airbags--even the entry-level DX Accord......Richard

I recently purchased an EX-L V6 coupe auto w/navi after reading many posts on this board and using the e-mail attack. I bought the vehicle from Gwinnett Place Honda for $26,652 out the door (including ttl, 7% sales tax, doc. fees, mud flaps, etc.). This price took a lot of haggling, but I was able to get them to stick to the quote they offered to me in the e-mail. This is one of the lowest quotes I had seen, especially with everything included. I cannot say it was the easiest negotiations but knowing all of the information on holdbacks, incentives, etc. really helped. I even corrected the salesman on the incentive amounts based on what I saw on this board. Thanks for all of the info.

    To all,

I have just bought a new EX-L, auto, I4, without any other deal-installed features, for $22,676.85 today at Herson's Honda, Rockville, Maryland. This was through internet sales, and we picked the second lowest bid.

I would like to report my bad experience, so that you can avoid it. "Internet sales" through emails is supposed to be a stress-free buying experience. You tell them what model/year/option you want, and they tell you how much you would have to pay to get it from them. In fact, it was a smooth transaction for me last year. The dealer was ready to deliver it when I arrived at the dealship at the appointed time.

This time around, I did the same homework for a 2nd car. First, I nailed down my choice. Research for the lowest price. Finally, I sent seven emails out to local dealers, requesting quotations. Emails came in hours later. I then called Criswell to confirm the deal, made appointment the same day, and drove over after work to pick up the car. Well, surprise! The sales said that car was just sold. I could tell immediately that it was a lie, because I already spelled out the color I wanted both in my email and in our telephone conversations. Further, the sales didn't want to prepare the car for immediate delivery, because, in his words, he wanted me to go there and choose one from many by myself. What a waste of time dealing with Criswell Honda, Germantown.

Approx. how much are people paying these days to have their windows tinted? I haven't had this done before, so what are the various factors or options that determine the price? Is it cheaper to have a lighter tint than a darker one? Any advice about having it done or paying / negotiating it? Is it better to have the dealer tint it? Better to negotiate the price of the tinting when you purchase the car? Are they more "firm" about these prices? Thanks.
  • mirageseamiragesea Member Posts: 29
I tried the internet sales route without success for the past week. I contacted five MD area dealers. One salesman told me they had the car and we sort of agreed on the price but when I went there it was not the car we'd talked about--I wanted side air bags.
A saleswoman at another dealer told me after a couple of email message exchanges that she could not give me the deal I was looking for "good luck with your search" she said.
My question is: if I struck out with one salesman at a certain dealership, can I just contact another salesman at the same dealer? Some internet sites list the names of more than one salesman. Thanks
  • whitecloud1whitecloud1 Member Posts: 268
..Often seems like a cottage industry these days. I've seen very good jobs by people with little experience. You might check with people who do the work often in your state though. I've heard of various rules about window tinting per location. What's OK for one place might not be in another,
  • whitecloud1whitecloud1 Member Posts: 268
You're perfectly welcome to talk to another salesperson at the same dealership. However, they talk to each other. Just don't let it get personal. Try to project at all times that you're trying to get the best deal you can. Unless there is a personality problem, I would just stay with the same salesperson throughout. Trying to play salespeople at the same place against each other sounds like a recipe for disappointment to me.
  • mirageseamiragesea Member Posts: 29
Thanks whitecloud. My intention is not really to play one salesperson against another but find one that will continue to negotiate with me rather than to say "good luck with your purchase" This sounds like he is not interested in my business so I figure I might find another salesperson at the same dealership.
  • whitecloud1whitecloud1 Member Posts: 268
Miragesea, I would just go to another dealership. You might want to read Edmund's "Confessions of a car salesman"; the title is something like that. Anyway, seems to me that the bottom line is going to be the same with the dealership you're at now because that may be the style of their salespeople led by the sales manager. You may just find another dealer more to your liking.
  • kaczmarczykkaczmarczyk Member Posts: 7
Just a little FYI, chances are that you have been logged into a dealer system and notes have been taking about your deal. So even if you call/email again and get a different sales person they will be able to call up your history/notes about you.

Also, the sales person is not the one who really negotiates the deal with you. Your deal is brought into the back office where the GM will look at and tell the sales person what they can or can not do. Granted, the GM may have more motivation to make a deal at different times- aka end of the month to meet #'s or such so what he would not do one day he might do another day.
  • musicboymusicboy Member Posts: 66
miragesea> I tried the internet sales route without success for
miragesea> the past week. I contacted five MD area dealers.

In my opinion you contacted way too few dealers to ferret out the lowest rock-bottom price on your desired vehicle. Inventories fluxuate and what may have been a good deal for a certain dealer last month may not be this month but there are likely others out there in just the opposite position who would be glad to make that deal. You just have to find them.

miragesea> One salesman told me they had the car and we sort of
miragesea> agreed on the price but when I went there it was not
miragesea> the car we'd talked about--I wanted side air bags.

This is why I suggest that you specify the Honda model number in your Dealer Bid Request as well (in your case for the 2004 Honda Accord LX 4dr Sedan w/Dual Side Airbags (2.4L 4cyl 5A) it is CM5644EW.)

Additionally, I suggest after you have a verbal agreement with the Internet salesperson but before you ever leave your home to go to the dealership to purchase the vehicle, you have the Internet salesperson fax you a complete Buyers Order that has the full description of the vehicle (including VIN, their Stock and Honda Model numbers) as well as the agreed pricing and signed by their manager.

If they won't agree to that (and it's possible they might not want to because of competitive reasons but I would try) then I would at least ask for an unsigned copy to be faxed and then personally speak with the manager that has the final authority by phone to get his word that this is a deal he will stand by once you get there.

miragesea> My question is: if I struck out with one salesman at a
miragesea> certain dealership, can I just contact another salesman
    miragesea> at the same dealer?

You probably can but I'm not sure you'll get a different result. Your proposal was probably discussed with the Internet salespersons manager and for whatever reason they decided it was not a deal worth doing. Internet salespersons (in many cases) are compensated on a flat rate for each car sold and not by the amount that is in the deal for the dealership the way traditional car salesmen are. Her hands may have been tied and she was being genuine when she said "good luck with your search".

As I said before, I would broaden your horizons of dealerships and email and fax bid request to as many dealers as possible. Certainly include the Virginia and Baltimore area dealers. Ultimately you don't have to buy from a dealer you consider too far away from you but you will likely find the lowest rock-bottom price available in the DC metro area. And with that knowledge, you may also be surprised to find a closer dealer who will now match your best price.

Just picked up LX/AT/4d/4cyl/sideairbags for $17.9k plus tax and license from Family Honda in Orange County CA. Did the internet thing, and it went very smoothly. Before driving 40 minutes north, I checked with several San Diego area dealers. None were price competitive. I sat in two dealerships with my checkbook out, and both dealerships would not sell at above price. Internet quotes from SD dealers also were not competitive. My advice to San Diego residents -- an hour (or less) drive can save you hundreds of dollars -- or you can stay in San Diego and get ripped off!

I've been reading on this board for about 6 months. We went looking today at Toyotas and Honds. Could you possibly e-mail me a copy of your letter requesting offers along with your spreadsheet? This was a frustrating experience today. I told the Toyota salesman that I didn't want to go inside because we were just shopping. He insisted one of us go in. So my husband went in and 25 minutes later I went in and realized a sales manager had come over. Needless to say, we didn't stay much longer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Debbie

Oh, I forgot one thing in my comment about San Diego dealers (message 4811).

The sales rep that I worked with at Family Honda, Twee Mai, was great. She gave me a firm price over the internet, and had the car washed and waiting when I arrived. I was in and out of the dealership, including financing, in 90 minutes. One of the best sales experiences I have had. I highly recommend this dealership and sales rep.

On the other hand, I would NOT go to either Poway Honda or Pacific Honda. Both dealerships did not have competitive prices and wasted my time. Pacific adds all this cr@p to their cars like pinstripes and tries to tell you what a "deal" you're getting, based upon the discounts for their cr@p. Fuller Honda was the worst - they promised me a price over the internet and on the phone, then raised prices on me at the last minute, after asking for all of my personal financial information for a supposed credit check.

I will try to explain my situation as simply as possible. I went to a dealship just to show my dad what the car looked like. (was comparing to the TL and wanted someone else's opinion on whether or not is was worth the extra money). Anyhow, the salesperson gave me there lowest price...so they say...lol. Well I e-mailed about 15 different dealers from western PA to eastern Ohio. I will be moving to Ohio so I figured that I would check out there price. The Ohio price was much lower than the price from here. The internet salesman from PA told me that "good luck" line and told me to go with Ohio. My dad liked the salesman we met in PA and told me to call him to see if he would beat the Ohio price. I told my dad that would never happen. Well to my surprise the salesman beat the Ohio price by $200 and gave me a price that the internet dealer couldn't give me from the same exact place.....????. I don't know why or how it happened but it did. I always thought the internet price was the lowest you could get b/c they didn't earn the commission. I don't believe in any way that they even had a clue that I check out the internet price..nor do i care. my job is to get the cheapest price for myself that I can. As is there job to make the most money. My advice is to price around and compare prices between salesman and internet dealer b/c I honestly think they don't compare notes. (in my opinion). I don't think you'll get to far going from one salesman to another in the same dealership though..unless you don't like the salesman. If you need any help e-mail me...rme78@aol.com.

btw...I have my first nick on my car :(. Anyone have any experience with the touch up paint? Does it cover it up well?? i.e.- does the color match exactly??

I just bought an Accord EXL-NAV today and got home and realized their are no instructions to use the navigation. Does anyone know if this is a separate book than the owner's manual? I have that, but there is nothing in there about navigation. I think I've figured out most everything, but I would still like it just in case I missed something.

Need help from any and all readers. I'm looking for an Accord EX and started shopping today. I've been reading on this site for months, but mostly for Corollas & Civics, so I wasn't prepared when I went out today. We were offered $3,000 below MSRP for the EX. Not sure if this is good or bad. Help. Also, I'm in the process of e-mailing outside the area too. We live in the Hampton Roads area and don't mind going north or south. So, was this a good offer? On some of the older posts it looks like the responses have said that $750 under MSRP is good - is that for an OTD cost? Thanks Debbie

I don't own one, but I have seen a separate manual for the navigation. You should go back to the dealer and get one.

Last night we brought home a really nice EX V6 (w/o navi) blue sedan.

We test drove last week, researched like crazy, and obsessively read these messages (Thanks!). We went on an an e-mail blitz campaign and had 8 dealers competing for our business

Our lowest bid was 23.4 but the dealership was far, the internet salesguy sounded aggressive, and we'd heard negative comments about the after-sale support.

We went with the second lowest at 23.8. We had a truly pleasant experience with Noel at Scott Honda in West Chester,PA. He was low-key, low-pressure, took his time, pulled no tricks, and let us take our time driving the car. We agreed on the sale price by phone, so the purchase was relatively stress-free.

He gave us a free trunk liner and gave me a higher-than-KBB price on my trade. We opted for the added 189 leather protection

This message board was enormously helpful to us- thanks, everyone, for contributing your experiences.

HI- Sorry I didn't include the OTD price. We were at 25k out-the-door. Roughly 3k under invoice and a really, really pleasant shopping experience.

BTW, we really, really like the V6, though we were surprised to find how much higher we seem to sit in the sedan compared to the coupe.

Additionally, Wright Honda in Drexel Hill was anxious to price-match, Conicelli had the lowest quote, and Martin in DE quickly dropped out of the bidding wars.

I've found these boards extremely helpful- let me know if I can be useful.

Bought a new 2003 accord LX v6 from a dealer in Charlotte, NC. Negotiated with the sales person down to 22K OTD and she told me her boss agreed. After going in for the final paper work, got a surprise from the finance guy when he handed over some papers to sign. $700+ was added on top of my OTD price. I asked him what the extra $700+ for.. and he told me that is the fee for a driver other than the person who is purchasing and financing the car. (prior..I told the sales person i was looking for a car for my brother) I wasn't a bit happy about this and told him that they've already taken too much of my time and now they're trying to stiff me with hidden fees. I got up and walked out the office. and of course, the sales person and the finance guy came running after us to settle on the original OTD price of 22k.

$4000 down for 60 months- about 323 a month. is this a good deal?

I purchased a new 2004 Honda EX 4-cyl with leather last night. I requested a quote via the internet and was quoted $500 over invoice (which was the same invoice price posted on edmunds.com) by the internet salesman. There was no haggling and it was the first time I didn't leave the showroom feeling swindled. I purchased my car from Rick Hendrick Honda in Charleston, SC.

Hi, I'm new here. This site has been invaluable so far. Anyway, I had a question about carsdirect.com. The site lists the 'Target Price' of a 2004 Accord LX with side airbags as $17563 for my area. This price includes the destination charge. How exactly can I use this?
Can I just walk into a dealership with a printout and show it to them?

Got an internet quote for 21,377 plus TTL on a 4 cyl EX auto-w/leather. This includes destinatoin. Just wanted a get a feel for reasonableness from you guys. Its below invoice per Edmunds. Are the Accords selling below invoice these days?

2 dealers in my area beat the carsdirect.com quote by a few hundred. So shop around.
