    Hey guys,

I live in northern california, east bay area.

I'm currently shopping for an Accord LX, 5-speed, most likely with no options.

The current online price I'm considering is $16,884, which includes destination fee. I know that this is supposedly about 1000 below the invoice of 17864 (invoice doesn't include destination fee, right?), but I remember my brother got a 2002 accord new a couple years ago for 15,9. The MSRP of that year and this year are virtually identical.

Are my expectations off? Would it be possible to get a similar deal nowadays?
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
The 2002 was the last year before the redesign so the might explain the price difference.
  • enochenoch Member Posts: 2
You mean 5-speed manual? The auto tranny is 5-speed too...

It looks like your invoice price DOES INCLUDE the destination fee. So the quote is $1000 below invoice, which is good but not super considering your are in CA. You should be able to save $200-300 more.

Have all of the Accord incentives ended? It looks like in on honda.com. Do the dealers still have the $500 on cars that are on their lot a this time? Anyone with info???
  • bd21bd21 Member Posts: 437
You need to learn to use Edmunds. They have all of the information you need already available. Go to the NEW CARS tab at the top of this page and click on it, then click on incentives & rebates. Put in the appropriate zip code and now you will know everything about customer and dealer incentives that are available including when they expire. Honda still has a $500 incentive to dealers, not customers available on most Accords into August. There is even a $1000 on some models.

al i know is that I had to take delivery of my car on 7/6 to get that price. and every other dealer told me the same thing.

    Hello All,

Thanks all for your opinions...I have decided on the Accord 4 cylinder coupe with leather over the Solara.

I have always driven automatic, and I wanted to buy a stick accord. Today was my second day out in my friends Civic. I heard stick is more fun, etc...

This is only my second day, but I'm having second thoughts with stick..Im just not that great at it yet. I dont really want to wear out the clutch in the new car. Ill be going out in my friends car a few more times.

What are all your opinions with 1)stick vs auto in general and
2)specific to the accord...I test drove the auto and learned it was 5-speed auto and it was a great drive!

    Thanks!

paid $23,900 (basis + destination), 3.9% for 60 months for a Honda Accord V6 (before I knew this web and came to check the pricing). Tuesday evening about 8pm went to thr dealer and drove back home car. Home is about 5-10 minutes away from the dealer (depends on the traffic). Wednesday morning (so far the whole drive was the 10 minutes from the dealer to home - nice city road) found out an about 3mm diameter size paint loss to the lower part of the right side door, an about 3mm diameter size leather broken (the leather was still hung there) to the driver's side door, a minor scratch (about one inch, paint is still basically there) to the back of the car. I went to the dealer this morning (Thursday) and was scolded by three men there. One of them almost shouted, "You just go ahead and drive back home your car." It was a very sad and helpless situation. They basically meant when I drove back home car on Tuesday, I had admitted "the car was perfect." Finally they said they would replace the part where the paint was lost; they were going to fix the broken leather; and they would buffle the back scratch. I really don't feel good that a brand new car had to be done some much repair work to start with and those people's attitude towards me. What can I do? or what shall I do? Thanks a lot.

You won't wear out the clutch if you don't slip it much--never hold the car on a hill by partially engaging the clutch. Engage the clutch at low RPM--the less slipping the better.

If your area is flat and you aren't in heavy traffic, you'll enjoy a stick shift. If you're frequently starting in the middle of hills or in heavy traffic, you'll wish you'd bought an automatic.

In any case, give yourself a chance to have fun driving such a nice car......Richard

Sorry to hear of your disappointment with your new car. The dealership personnel should know better than to chastise a new customer. I would look up the general manager on your next visit and remind him/her that you still have to fill out Honda's CSI (customer survey) form and you are not happy about being treated badly by his staff. That may change their attitude.

Also, the next time you purchase a car you may want to pay closer attention when you inspect it before signing the papers. It helps if you do the inspection during the daytime. It is easy to miss minor paint flaws under lights.

In any event, the repairs you describe are minor and should not diminish your new car experience in any way. In a month or so, after the repairs, you will probably forget all about them.

The low APRs for accord was up to July 6. Did anybody get good APR after July 6? Will honda offer low APRs again? If there are no low APRs any more, are accords still good deals? What do you think?
    Thanks for suggestions!
  • rampedramped Member Posts: 358
The low financing seems to be gone for now. There are lease deals on some models. Also, $500 manufacturer to dealer cash that you can negotiate in a deal. Dealers usually pass this on to customers.
  • stacey_burkestacey_burke Member Posts: 88
Just doing a quick calculation. $20,000 for 60 at 3.9% compared to the same amount and months for 4.75% is only 7.71 a month that is a total of 462.58 over the life of the loan. Is it a good deal? depends on how much you can get the car for in the first place..
  • colonelcolonel Member Posts: 4
I just got a quote from the Internet for an Accord LX 5 Speed AT for $18,500. Is this a good price?
  • nycanyca Member Posts: 232
that's right around invoice, that's high for this time of the year with the incentives in place. check some ads in your local newspaper, you should be able to go lower.
  • colonelcolonel Member Posts: 4
I was able to negotiate and brought it down to $17,995. The car has only 2 miles on it and I bought it on the spot. I thought I was able to walk away with a pretty good deal.

Something I've been wondering before I go car shopping...

How do Honda dealers generally appraise trade-ins? Do they go pretty much by the Edmunds trade-in values (or Kelley or NADA)?

I realize you probably can't generalize but I'm wondering what other Accord buyers' experiences have been. Thanks in advance.

    P.S. I'm trading a Taurus, not a Honda.
  • twizard27twizard27 Member Posts: 9
From my experience, KBB, NADA,...etc. are just guides, and really don't mean a thing sometimes. The dealer will offer you only what they willing pay for that car. Most of the time the dealer will call the local auto auction house, and find out what the car is going for.

Here is my story: I had a Nissan Pathfinder, and wanted to trade it for an Accord. Went to a dealer that advertised "Up to $3000 over KBB for your trade" They only offer me $1000 Under KBB, since they already had 2 Pathfinders on the lot, and did not want another one. Went to another dealer who had no SUV's on their lot, and offered me the KBB price and gave me discounts on the Accord at a time when there were none, plus they had to have it trucked in from another dealer 200 miles away.

So it pays to look at their used car inventory first, and see what they have. If they have the same car in stock, you may not have much of an advantage, even if yours is newer and has less miles than what they already have.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
We go by whatever the market values are. In the case of a Taurus, sorry, but the dealer probably won't want to keep it on his lot. He will probably make a call or two to the local Ford dealer or a wholesaler to find out if they want it and what they will pay.

Don't mean to be the bearer of bad news but a Taurus usually brings well below what the books say. They are VERY soft in the marketplace.
  • nycanyca Member Posts: 232
now we're talking! good luck with the new car.
  • zhelderzhelder Member Posts: 42
I wanted to trade in a '96 Taurus for my '04 Accord. I certainly wasn't expecting a fortune for it, even though the car was in good condition. But I was shocked when the dealer offered me only $800 for the car. I decided to keep it. It's been laying dormant in my lot for months, but I'm going to get it fixed up and sell it privately very soon. I figure I can get about $2500 or so for it. I didn't want to deal with the hassle of selling privately, but for such a big difference in price it's worth the hassle.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
It sounds like it has problems? be careful that you don't end up spending a lot of money getting it "fixed up".

You may be better off selling it yourself AS IS.
  • mirageseamiragesea Member Posts: 29
Is your $18,500 out the door price(OTR)? If so, it's very good.
I'm in the DC Area and I've had bad luck getting dealers to give me a good deal. For an Accord LX 4dr. auto. side airbags the lowest OTR price I got was around $19,000. This is $500 more than what musicboy paid for the same car back in January 2004. Shouldn't 2004 car prices be getting lower because of incoming 2005s?
Maybe I'm doing something wrong..when I tell one dealer to beat another's offer they tell me that the other guy must be lying and trying to get me to go to the dealership. here is a recent reply:

"I know you feel that you received a better offer but as I had stated in my first e-mail to you, many dealerships are using misleading tactics in order to earn the business of their potential customers. They will offer a low price that they know no other dealership will be able to beat to make it look like they are the best deal in town. Only when you get to their dealership, they will add on other charges such as dealer installed accessories or other hidden charges or fees that they purposely did not inform you about up front.

Our price is the complete price that you will pay. Absolutely no other charges or fees will be added. I include our dealer installed accessories of wheel locks and mud guards for no additional charge. I also enroll all of my customers in our lifetime free oil change program complimentary!

The prices that I am quoting you are based on $700 below invoice so I am confident that no other dealership can legitimately beat our deal."

    WHAT SHOULD I DO??????
  • axiomowneraxiomowner Member Posts: 76
    Hi,

I was orginally quoted, from the internet salesman, $500 below sticker for an 04 Accord EX 4Cyl w/Leather at Hyannis Honda in Mass. That's about $24400. He was adamant that this was a great deal on a great car.

After reading the numerous posts about what others have done, I offered $21500 +TTL and they accepted. However, when they quoted my trade, they came in $3500 below than other dealers quotes. ..and I wasn't supposed to notice that I was now at full sticker???

Needless to say, I won't ever be going back there again.
  • twizard27twizard27 Member Posts: 9
This is a common trick that dealers use: Offer the new car at a low price, making you think that you are getting a great deal, than make up for the "loss" on the trade-in, and hope that you will not notice how much $$$ they are making off on you.

I'm trying to find any info regarding subjected cars in Oregon/Washington area.

I went to Ron Tonkin Honda and they gave me EX-V6 for $24,380 (Best Price, according to the salesman).

I still need to find out if this is the final drive out price but would like your input on the price.

    Thank you.

Try Dick Hannah in Vanc. WA. Bought 04 EX-L V-6 coupe for $24333($24500 drive away Oregon res). Dealt with fleet manager. Thomason(Portland)had better price but bid came in to late for me. I used the fax attack method to contact 8 dealers There were no dealer incentives at the time, end of March. Hope this helps.

    Stonepillar,

I am also shopping for a 04 EX-V6 sedan, the quotes I have received from the 6 dealerships in the Phoenix, AZ area range from 22,949 to 23,800. I will post the final price when the deal is finally made (hopefully by this weekend). Hope this helps....

Just bought a red coupe for 23,992 plus TTL and fees ($240)in Dallas. Included cargo tray, anti-theft lug nuts, pin stripe, and tinted windows that were already on the car.

Foolishly also bought several additional accessories on the spot that led to problems I found out about after I had signed. However the dealership is working with me to set this right including refund over half the money and selling the accessories at a discounted price. Dispite the problems, they appear to be trying to make amends and earn their five stars.

Remember I live in VA and the tax is only 3% vs. 5% in MD. I paid 17,852.33 plus TT&L)at the end of January. I calculate that this amounted to $345.17 BELOW true dealer cost (plus the value of some dealer added extras - pinstripe, mudguards & wheel locks.) There was no Manufacturer To Dealer incentives available at that time that I know of.

I've read that others on this board have recently gotten even lower pricing because of recent incentives (i.e. $17,802 (plus TT&L) in Rockville, MD in mssg #4952, $17,583 (plus TT&L) in Dallas, TX in mssg #4923 and $17,882 (plus TT&L) in North Carolina in mssg #4914.)

Let's determine the current status of true Dealer cost on the 2004 Honda Accord LX 4dr Sedan w/Dual Side Airbags (2.4L 4cyl 5A) (CM5644EW) that you are trying to purchase.

MSRP (including Destination Charges) for this vehicle is $20,840 and Invoice is $18,808. Subtract the Holdback of $610.50 and subtract the Manufacturer to Dealer Incentive of $500 and you have a true dealer cost of $17,697.50.

If you take that figure and add 5% MD tax of $884.88 and two years MD registration of $128 and MD Title Fee of $23.00 you get a total of $18,731.38 OTR. At that figure the dealer will be making no money so a $19,000 OTR offer is not that terrible.

Now that doesn't mean that there isn't a dealer out there somewhere in the DC Metro area that wants to move some cars for allocation purposes and WILL sell you a car below cost or one who has that vehicle with some added accessories already installed that they are willing to part with for free. You might try and negotiate with them by offering a lower price or asking them to throw in some accessories that you want.

If all negotiations with your Internet contacts then you can always do what poster Edge71 did in Mssg #4952 and that is to walk into Herson's Honda in Rockville, MD and see if you can get them to match his deal of July 1 of $18,818.10 OTR.

That would be awesome. I will wait for your final price.

I should use your tactic: Fax.

    Thanks jayhawk.

Just for clarification, the Honda Accord LX AT for $17,583 (plus TT&L) in Dallas, TX does not contain side air bags. Hence this price is $1000 below invoice of $18,583.
  • musicboymusicboy Member Posts: 66
nakks2> the Honda Accord LX AT for $17,583 (plus TT&L)
nakks2> in Dallas, TX does not contain side air bags.

Thanks for the clarification. With the addition of $225 for the side airbags to your deal that would have been a total of $17,808 which is in line with the LX w/side airbags deal in Rockville, MD in mssg #4952.

I find it interesting that a dealer can use the line of saying a car can be soft for re-sale. Doesn't KBB account for the softness of a vehicle? I mean there's not one set formula for every vehicle on the market - every make and model will depreciate at a different pace.

In my experience trying to trade in a car, I've always left feeling somewhat insulted with an offer well below KBB - and definitly well below private party pricing (20-30% below private party pricing).

I just bought and brought back one from California for 25,201. I will pay 4.9% in Colorado or 1234.84 for a total of 26435. In Colorado the price was more that 1900 above what I paid. It runs great the Navi is wonderful... Stacey Burke

Last Thursday bought a nighthawk black pearl LX - V6 4-door. Stickered at $23,300, I wound up getting it for $20,500 plus TTL, which as best I can tell was somewhere in the $500 - $1000 range below invoice. Added alloy wheels for $1000 more which was an interesting story which I don't have time for here. Financed about $14 grand worth at 3.7 for 48 months. Good deal? I'd be interested in any comments, Thnx.

A dealer told me to name my price for a 2004 EX with Leather 4 cylander. I told him I want 23,000 out of door price (which includes taxes, etc.) which he said was fine.

My question is should I have gone lower than that? Is this a good deal?
  • whitecloud1whitecloud1 Member Posts: 268
In the Washington DC area that's a good price if they gave you some so-called options, like trunk liner and spoiler. If you got NAV it would be considered a very good price.
  • ricowizricowiz Member Posts: 8
Good point, I am going to have to ask them what would be included in that price. I fear now that 23,000 OTD may be too high? This dealer is in the College Park are BTW.
  • rascalerascale Member Posts: 19
Thought I would advise re. a dealer in the Charlotte, NC area. I got a 04 Accord EX V6 Automatic for about $800 under invoice and extras at dealer cost. I upgraded the wheels to 17" and tacked on the HFP front spoiler for dealer cost. Above all I have been treated exceptionally well. The dealer is Honda Cars of Rock Hill. Contact their internet sales department! I have found if you walk in off the street most dealerships take you for an uninformed idiot right off. I got into my new car in about 2 hours with NO hassles with this dealership.
  • ricowizricowiz Member Posts: 8
Just curious if they are going to have some special financing on the Accord. I know they had a special that stopped on July 6th, I am just wondering if I wait about a month I can get the specials?
  • velocityvelocity Member Posts: 1
    Dear Experts,

I am planning to buy a new 2004 Honda 4dr Sedan w/Side Airbags. I have quotes from four dealers. The quotes range from $18000-$18750 (without tax, license, registration costs but inclusive of destination fee). My budget is $20000 inclusive of all costs.

Since I am a complete novice in terms of car buying, your inputs in terms of what options I should get in terms of options/features on this car as a part of the deal are more then welcome.

If I wait till labor day this year, will my chances of getting a better deal improve? I am assuming that since the 2005 model will be phased in around that time, the pressure to sell the 2004 inventory may be higher then.

Please recommend other dos/donts as well!

    Thanks in advance.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
Won't get a "better deal" since they probably won't get the car they want!

We are already very short on inventory and as more time passes the more popular cars get snapped up.

This happens every year and the bargain hunters get frustrated when they can't get the color they want.
  • isonison Member Posts: 1
Offered the following price for an 04 Accord Coupe EX V6,6speed,no nagvi.
    $25265 Total out the Door

Can I do better at another dealer, in South FLA?

I just got EX V6 leather with Navigation at Gresham Honda for $25700 which includes mud guards, anti-reflective rear view mirror, and glass etching (which are worthless to me but the dealer won't remove). Financed thru Portland Teachers Credit Union at 4.29% for 48 months. Beware, they tried to trick me into their financing at 9%!!! So bring your own financing or calculator and know your FICO score. They are not the most ethical and the whole process took two days. We finished the deal finally at 1210AM midnight, after SIX HOURS and shouting matches. Needless to say, the car is good, but the buying experience was really unpleasant.

I am about to send out my emails in the DC area for 04 EX-L,4-cyl, Auto, 4dr and was looking for a good suggested price to start with. Is 21700.00 plus TT&L good or do you think I can now do better?
  • 1st_accord1st_accord Member Posts: 8
You may not want to send out a starting price and see what prices they respond with. Some might come in over 21700 some might come in under.
  • whitecloud1whitecloud1 Member Posts: 268
You really don't want to tell them what you will
pay right off. Simply ask for their best price.
