Wow, they charge to run your credit. This seems like a really good deal to me. What's stopping you from buying?

My first quote was $21k, 2nd is $19200 and backy in the previous post mentioned I can try for $18ish. Someone seems to be buying at that rate. I am tempted to buy but so disappointed from today that I should just buy from my local Honda dealer and buy a Fit again.

Seems like a bit of a scam alright, where did the extra $1000.00 come from?

$18,200 to $19,200 even before they started loading you up with all the 'extras' the dealerships have up their sleeves at signing time?

Well, keep looking, the car lots will be pretty cold empty places in Jan..that's always good for a serious attitude adjustment from the sales managers.

Its a typical bait and switch in this area which I'm used to. I did find it amusing that the guy said I was misquoted and they initially did not include the package 2 price of $683 so the price is really from $18200 to $19200. :surprise:

Whoa. You can TRY for anything you want. What I said was that I don't know what the Sonata sales situation is in your area. But you are checking it out for yourself, which is exactly what you needed to do. But just because "someone" says you "should" be able to buy for the low-ball price, or even got a super-great deal himself/herself, doesn't mean that everyone (including you) can get the same deal on a given day, in a given city. And getting that super-low deal can take a lot of work... as you've probably noticed.

If you want a good deal on a Honda, a Fit isn't the best bet. The Honda dealer is more likely to give a great deal on a leftover 2010 Civic or Accord right now.

If you really want a great deal on a good mid-sized car right now, I've seen that my local Mazda dealers and Mercury dealers are dealing big-time on 2010 Mazda6's and on Milans (since Milans are a lame duck--but a very nice car). The big discounts are harder to come by on Sonatas these days, and they don't have the huge rebates they did in those halcyon days when most people laughed at the idea of buying a Hyundai, so they were less expensive for the rest of us. Not much laughter about that nowadays...

It's not helping the people who are looking at the new Hyundai's that they keep winning awards and making headlines everyday about how great they are.

'Right now they're the smokin' hot item in a cold market so the lucky Hyundai Dealerships that have a good supply are in the position of, "if you don't take it the next guy through the front door will".

Not much chance to get a big break on the prices right now but I think some of the heat will go off the Sonata once the 2011 Elantra gets to the market. They are, after all just a Baby Sonata, with better mpgs and a few buck$ less, so buyers will at least have a decent option if the 'price point' is a huge factor and the Elantra will still do the job.

All new cars depreceate at least 50% more/less after 3 years, but at least the Hyundais will still have warranty left on them after all the payment are done with.
We still have a few more car payments left on our, now well out of warranty 2007 $22,000 Nissan Versa SL with CVT powertain that is now selling for $8,500.

(note to self: never finance any car for longer than 3 years)
  • truelies1truelies1 Member Posts: 34
I hope can get below $20,000 too, also they rate 2.9% is not so good.
  • truelies1truelies1 Member Posts: 34
Why "never finance any car for longer than 3 years"? If they give you 0.0% apr, I would like to finance for 30 years.

I find that my tolerance for a new car is about 3 years, as, in this fast changing tech-world, all the newest innovations and saftey features are making the 3 year old car now look more like 20 years old.

Blind spot radar coverage, back up cameras, cars that parallel park themselves, heated front and back seats (finally) blue tooth cell phone systems, GPS navigation (my favorite) satellight direct FM radio, signal light indicator outside mirrors, hazard sensing cruise control, ESC, ABS, Drag Coefficient ratings down to 26, and more.

Look at the improvements in the 2011 Sonata mpg's for example.

According to Hyundai's long range plans, that great 34 mpg today might be be the new gas Guzzler in 3 or 4 years time.

The new Elantra's are now rated at 40 mpg, I'm sure as life goes on, the new model in 4 years time will easily hit 50+ or not need any gas at all!

(BTW, I have restored 30 year old cars and believe me, you wouldn't want to still be making car payments on them, or driving them everyday.)

I guess you may want to lease the car instead of buying if this is the case? just my 2 cents.

just recieved email quote from my local hyundai dealer for a 2011 hyundai sonata GLS.msrp for this particular car with floor mats and ipod cable as the only options are $21,100.00....dealer final price quote is $18,300.00..a little high in my opinion considering the fact that there were about 50 sonatas on the lot with not alot of potential byers waiting in the wings..gonna try and get them to go lower in price to maybe 17,500.00.....
  • longo2longo2 Member Posts: 347
    Steven39, You must LOVE rejection!
  • truelies1truelies1 Member Posts: 34
Which dealer and city? I think $18300 is a good deal. In Houston they jack the price to a very high level.

    Thanks Kevin,
I bought this vehicle from Rick case Hyundai Cleveland OHIO :)
  • howard18howard18 Member Posts: 53
Try around in Houston, i think the best deal i can get is Honda Accord as family sedan.
  • jjjj263jjjj263 Member Posts: 8
I have test driven Sonata turbo and non turbo atleast 8 time before deciding to by a turbo. I feel turbo is the real deal when it comes to Sonata. The is a very huge difference in the pick up and very small difference in millage. but don't worry. all the Turbo cars come with ECO button and when turned on the turbo car will shift its transmission to economical mode to give 7 % more millage.
The thing which is most important than all these is what YOU want. my suggestion would be to test drive both and then decide :)
  • LASHAWNLASHAWN Member Posts: 303
What kinda deal did you get? I'm going in for test drive on Monday to compare myself before I pull the trigger.

    Hi Steve,

I didn't find my experience at Wayne Hyundai to be good. I am also told that at the time of contract signing they require that you do vin etching and add on a whole bunch of other fees. Try Liberty Hyundai in Mahwah through True Car. Make sure you put all options you want on the car and choose the exact color combination you want . Their doc fee by the way is $195. I bought a 2011 Sonata from them recently and they have even contacted me after-wards to see how I am enjoying my car. I did not experience any surprise pricing.
  • lovemysonatalovemysonata Member Posts: 3
If you are talking about Wayne Hyundai that seems to be how they operate. I do not consider them to be a reputable dealership but that's just my opinion.

I found true car pricing to be much lower in my geographic area than consumer reports. So, even if true car is making $300 I still made out better. Using consumer reports was a huge waste of my hard earned $15.

Looking at a red Sonata SE at my local, White River Junction, VT dealer. Dealer was holding at MSRP ($23,835) so I went home to do some research.

Got a quote via Overstock.com from Grappone Hyundai in Concord, NH (about an hour away) for $20,850 including a followup email that seemed to indicated the quote was good but I'd rather buy local.

fwiw, I stumbled on this car by accident as I was originally looking at the Elantra Touring. I was really impressed by it.

Heading over with the wife today to see if I can move them on price. Also still not sure I can commit to a sedan with our 2 big labs who do need transportation sometimes. We are trading out our beloved, but gas guzzling '06 4Runner V8 and we'd really miss the cargo room. But a lower payment and much better MPG is necessary now as we are driving 20k+ miles a year and have only 1 steady income (I am self employed)

A good deal on a car you don't want, doesn't seem like a very good deal..

If you are used to an SUV, I'd stick to hatchback/wagons...

You are totally right. We decided against sedans completely, too much of a space compromise with the dogs and such. Headed out to look at a few things but on the ride we pretty much talked ourselves completely out of buying a new car at all.

There just isn't a slam-dunk car right now, and we want to avoid putting ourselves into a new hole over something that isn't perfect.

So that's where we stand for the winter at least. Will revisit the process when the new Focus 5 Door comes out, or better yet, that rumored Sonata Wagon. :shades:
  • longo2longo2 Member Posts: 347
The Ventian Red SE for $20,800 sounds pretty good for a great looking car, but with 2 big Lab's in the back seat, you/they would soon hate it!

Right now the best car for you and the lab's is the one you already own, it probably already smells like a kennel .

Option 1 Keep the Toy' and suck up the extra money for the Hyundai.
Option 2 Do nothing and save $20,800+, that's a lotta gas money...
Option 3 Wait for the new 2011 Elantra Touring out next fall better mpgs, more
room in the back for all the dog drool.
  • sporin71sporin71 Member Posts: 27
Yup, we decided to wait and see what come along next year. I'm hopeful for the Sonata wagon. http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/29/hyundai-of-america-wants-a-sonata-wagon-do-yo- u-w-poll/

fwiw, our 4Runner is very clean and non smelly. Dogs are in a crate when they are in the back and they don't travel with us a lot anymore. No drool or kennel smell. ;) But don't get me started on how messy 7 year olds are! :surprise:

Yes, I agree. Its probably because they are sorta in the middle of nowhere. I'm close to Liberty Hyundai too but they don't have the stock that I need. I decided to look for a silver GLS manual to get the 24/35 mpg range and even lower price or wait next month for the Elantra. $17457 is the going rate from truecar.
  • girmanngirmann Member Posts: 26
Just posting a data point on a purchase. Hyundai Sonata 2.0T Limited with mats, flaps, deflector, cargo net and ipod cable (No nav, though). Price was 25244 +1535 sales tax + 349 doc fee + 108 registration. 27236 OTD.

It seemed like a good deal... Priced out the car on truecar and sent to dealership that wasn't on truecar. They matched the price. Was able to negotiate the doc fee. They dropped the price of the car by $250 instead of taking out the doc fee. So in effect I paid a $100 doc fee. Pretty painless transaction.

Not a fan of Wayne but I would check Towne Hyundai

WHY are some of you paying as much for a turbo 4 banger Sonata as what a Genesis can be had for, new? The Sedan, loaded.

    Check out the Genesis prices.

    I don't get it, I swear I don't.
  • hjc1hjc1 Member Posts: 183
    4 doors and better milage.....
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
I think he meant the Genesis 3.8 sedan, which has 4 doors.

Definitely not as good FE as the Sonata turbo. But a lot more car for the dollars than the Sonata. If you're looking for power + FE, the Sonata turbo is hard to beat. For luxury-for-the-dollar in a new car, the Genesis 3.8 is hard to beat IMO.

    Hey,

I went through cars.overstock . com and I have 3 dealerships with prices for a 2011 White Sonata SE, NAVI, floor mats, ipod cable, wheel locks for $23,174, $23,176, and $24,000.

Are these low ball numbers? The dealerships are out of my way, and I was going to use these numbers to negotiate with a more local dealer.

Those prices show that it is right at Dealer Cost or below except for the $24,000. And the dealer cost includes the Hold Back, so Im not sure how legit those $23,000 are.

    Any input would be great!!

I went to a dealer and after reading this forum, they gave me a horendous Lease price, but I am looking to buy instead, so he said to buy, he gave me a price that was $375 below MSRP!! He tried.
  • njgreggnjgregg Member Posts: 39
Those numbers are very much in the ballpark....I just ran the same car on true car in the Philly area and the best number was 23,022.... You need to compare doc fees between the dealers though...there is a huge disparity in different areas of the country.
  • gmanigiogmanigio Member Posts: 13
But the thing is, how many people are actually getting these cars for the price reported by ZAG.com???

I think I know of 1 person in this forum topic. But there isnt much talk about these people actually buying for these prices......

Now Im worried about the "Steering" Problem on these cars.
  • talkintribetalkintribe Member Posts: 16
I don't understand paying so much extra for the Nav. We just got a 2011 Sonata Limited with cargo net, mudguards, wheel locks, ipod for $22890 +TTL. Why not buy something like that without the Nav and then go buy a portable Nav system for a few hundred bucks?
  • talkintribetalkintribe Member Posts: 16
Email (through the dealership website) every dealer within driving distance for a price. Then, use those quotes against each other to get the best quote you can get. I swear, it has the potential (not guarantee) to be better than truecar.com or any of the other websites! I have destroyed the truecar price with the last two cars we have bought.
  • gmanigiogmanigio Member Posts: 13
I already have a portable navigation.

Without Navigation, the prices from ZAG.com are $20,800 - $21,500 i think for the above car
  • gmanigiogmanigio Member Posts: 13
Also, the NAV package also has the sunroof on the SE
  • talkintribetalkintribe Member Posts: 16
I did not know about the sunroof package having NAV on the SE. If it were between the Limited w/o Nav and an SE w/Nav, I'd still opt for the Limited w/o Nav. You get more bang for your buck. But I understand going SE if someone thinks the Nav > leather seats, dual temperature (amazing), seat warmers, + other extras.

IN any event, I would not try to get a quote that includes the mud guards, ipod, etc. I would try to get them to throw most of those extras in.
  • gmanigiogmanigio Member Posts: 13
If I could, I would get the Limited, with 18" SE Rims and the SE Dual Exhaust.

    But I cant!!!!!

I have not posted here previously but I wanted to share our leasing experience and thank all the contributors on the site for the excellent information. We had not leased before so I needed to do my research before heading to the dealerships. After seeing the new Sonatas on the road and reading about them we decided that was probably the best value for the dollar we would find in a decent-looking new car. We considered buying a used car but didn't want to part with our cash.
Yesterday we leased a new Sonata GLS with the PEP for $219 inc. tax and nothing down. And i do mean NOTHING. They are even making the first payment, so we will only have 35 payments on the lease. :) The car really handles well and while I am giving up a few items I've come to enjoy - like heated seats, :( this is a beautiful, safe vehicle. For a base model it is very well equipped. It also has the mudguards and carpeted floor mats included.
    MF - .00047
    RV - 59%
    MSRP $21,850
    FINAL Price $18,800
We bought a 2010 Subaru Outback Limited last year andreally love that car. This is a great addition to the family garage and now the 16 y/o gets the 2003 Accord.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Seems like a very good price for a "sign-and-drive" lease on a Sonata GLS with PEP. The going price for such a lease in my area is around $250 a month. Congrats on the car!
  • ronni_eronni_e Member Posts: 9
I am in the market for a Sonata and was quoted the following today:
    2011 Sonata SE
    Navigation Package
    HomeLink
    Floor Mats
    iPod Cable
    Cargo Mat
    Cargo Net

Price is $23,550 not counting Tax, Title, License. This is a good amount less than the Edmunds TMV. Thoughts on how good of a deal this is?
  • girmanngirmann Member Posts: 26
I actually got a couple of hundred below zag...
  • gmanigiogmanigio Member Posts: 13
What was the price you got and what model and options?
  • gmanigiogmanigio Member Posts: 13
    Hey, Ronni

Put in your model in cars.overstock.com and compare. If its white you are getting its a good price. Either way, you may be able to bargain a few more bucks.

    Not a bad price
  • sellmorehondassellmorehondas Member Posts: 62
You are also paying a $400 to ZAG from the dealer for you buying there.
  • gmanigiogmanigio Member Posts: 13
Well, does that mean that the ZAG price has $300-400 price build into it? \Because if I go negotiate without being referred by ZAG, I could negotiate lower than the ZAG price.

For instance, ZAG shows me a price of $23,000, so that means the $400 is in that already? So I could start my negotiations at $22,600?

I wouldnt be paying the $400 anyway, thats the dealer that pays, but I know that it is ultimately passed on to the consumer.

    Is my logic correct?
  • subaraisubarai Member Posts: 3
You may want to try calling the Omaha area dealers. They have a lot of Sonatas in stock and with winter coming there is more demand for SUVs than sedans. The three dealers were pretty aggressive with our deal.
